Well it’s the time of the year we’ve all been waiting on. As Saturday quickly approaches with great anticipation for my Forest Park Panthers under a new regime, as they take on Bannecker. Bannecker being one of the many teams that has taken advantage of the talent pool with in our city by recruiting. But it’s a new day, a day where Panther pride has returned. A day where Panthers defend there home with a tenacity never seen before. A day where we earn respect starting saturday. Let’s go mighty Panthers !!!

I just recently had to move into the Midtown area, not far from Grady Stadium.I plan on going to their game tomorrow night (not even sure who they are playing). I know Damian Swann plays for Grady, and I know he is a highly touted recruit sitting on several offers. Other than him, I know nothing about the Grady Knights.

Tucker and SWD the makings of a good old fashion slobber knocker. Both these teams feel they are the Top Dog on the Block. Tucker looking to avenge last years beat down to SWD (0-26). SWD wanting to serve notice that they have reload (not rebuilt) their Team and the beat goes on. I pray both teams play at their best and no one gets hurt.

Union Grove had some athletes last season and played our Eagles very well in a 21-10 second round AAAAA playoff loss. That should signal a reason to respect UG, which means that someone is probably going to get mercifully violated as the glorious Kevin Kinsler era begins at Northside. Northside is averaging over 33 points/game in opening games over the past 5 seasons. That suggests that it will be a long night for Union Grove. Northside (Warner Robins) 42, Union Grove 7.

John Edward Norris obviously has no clue bout how the GHSA classification are established …. FYI brother .. IT IS BY STUDENT POPULATION !!! Even if Buford wanted to be 5A, they do not have the population …. Get a clue or stay off the blog
As for recruiting, you don’t have to recruit when parents are making appointments to get their athletes in the program !!! And another question would be why athletes want to leave their current school to come over ? ……. HMMM ? Carver will be a HUGE game next week, probably the preview for the state title game

Just Me………actually it was two weeks ago and it was scrimmage between two evenly matched teams. Since Peachtree is a 5-A school I would say that speaks volumes about SWD. Oh! I wouldn’t get to excited about the MLK scrimmage. MLK isn’t the same team it’s been in past years because of graduation and a coaching change. Any way the real season start’s tonight……..SWD will beat Tucker. Tucker’s record against SWD the last 9 meeting’s is 5-3-1

SWD Panther Paw,
What are you basing your prediction on? The fact that you went to or attend SWD? Why does playing a 5A school speak volumes when you guys play one and get beat but when Tucker beats one, we can’t read too much into it. Fact is, the past doesnt mean a thing. BUT i have a feeling you guys will cry “We lost a lot of seniors and we’re rebuilding” after the game. Coach Stephens will out coach Buck. One thing you can always say about SWD, they are always stacked with athletes but they can never overcome the coaching. Tucker is not stacked with Athletes but good solid players and great coaching. I’ll stay tuned tomorrow. may the best team win. Good luck to both schools.

Northside observer i indeed pick Newnan to beat NSWR last year and I was wrong we lost 29-24 i think that was the score but I also pick Camden and I was RIGHT and I dont remember the score I know I left at halftime. So I ended the season last year predicting right and will begin the season picking correct. Newnan will be very good this year as long as we stay healthy esp at QB. I expect a run in the playoffs again. Schedule is tough. Lagrange Woodstock PT Ridge the first 3 games and ending with Westlake MLK Stephenson and East Coweta. I think we play 8 playoffs teams from last year.

Ryan Gregoire (former Camden QB)
August 27th, 2010
4:41 pm
My name is Ryan Gregoire, played qb in Camden last season… I know was a year ago, but just wanted to clear up why I left. I was disrepected, and being yelled at everyday for no reasons at all. All I did was go out there everyday and overcome all obstacles I faced being undersized in size, but oversized in heart. Sure I played for a National powerhouse, but I am/was still a teenage kid that played the game to have fun. I was diagnosed with chrones disease my junior seasos and went through a 6 hour surgery, was tested for cancer, and spent a full week in the hospital. A week later I was back out on the field continuing my backup roll as a Jr. to Christian Milstead. I was promised the position at a summer camp from the head coach directly man to man, telling me I had no worries at all. Well all I did was run that wing-t offense better than anyone, and make zero mistakes…. and he stabbed me in the back. Then I was lied to at the half of the Hoover game on national TV, being told I was going to get to throw the ball a bit in the second half to keep Hoover off balance (which made no sense seing how we were up 17 at the half, we just needed to continue what worked), well I spent the entire 2nd half on the bench, as the leader and QB of my team, and watched my boys lose a 17 point halftime lead on national TV. The coaches came at me saying I wasn’t working hard, and basically I couldn’t do anything right. The head coach never tried to help me out for the next level. Never once did I receive a college letter in my locker, or get introduced to any scouts at any collegiate level. And we were a national powerhouse, and I was his senior QB and leader. So my parents got tired of seeing me misurable, and spoke to the coach. The coach tried to turn things around on me. So that was when I decided that enough was enough. I was no longer having fun and enjoying myself. I’m a bright young man, I enjoyed the game, but didn’t need it. I could have gone off to play college ball up in the Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin ares to play QB or DB, but I love my family, and didn’t feel ready to go off that far. I am currently attending college, and plan to persue college football next season…… I just read what was said last season when I got done, and it kinda struck a nerve hearing things people were saying that didn’t know what was going on at all. I know it’s been a year, but I guess some people out there treat GA high school football like the NFL, so I just wanted to clear things up.

Dont be suprised if Union Grove upsets top ranked Northside tonight. In last year’s playoff game they lost 21-10 but they had to play sophmore running back TJ Moon at quarterback due to injuries. Ty Moore is a three year starter that has won at least 8 games every year he has been under center. He is 19-5 as a starter. Watchout for the upset. Go Wolverines!!!

Sometimes in life we get unfortunate things thrown at us. What matters is how you handle it. You seemed to have been dealt a lemon. Make lemonade out of that lemon, and move on to better things. You want to play college football, well go get it. The world is yours. I wish you the very best. Better days for you are coming your way.

August 27th, 2010
5:32 pm
Ryan,,I mean this with no disrespect intended really. Im a former player also. I have been following Wildcat football before you were even in diapers. You might have been promised the starting job in the off season, but its your job to hold on to it. Ruiz was clearly the better Quarterback, it seemed to me when you was in the game, the defenses was just not threaten at all, When Ruiz was in, they were on their heels. You are probably a great young man, life hands us these things, just in life you can’t quit, you get back in and fight. Thats what I would have told my son, my son I would have not let quit. I was a pretty good DB in school, but I was not into fooling myself about college scouts, some of us just aren’t college football material. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t have good successful life. I and with a lot of other fans thought the Coach should have made the change long before he did. But he was trying to be politically correct(if thats a good way to say it), but he had to do whats better for the team, than what was better for Ryan. If your Dad is a honest man which Im sure he is, there is no way he couldn’t say the team wasn’t in better hands with Ruiz. Some times its the parents fault for telling these kids that they are better than they really are. My son will soon play for the Wildcats, if he’s been replaced by a better player, I will have no problem witht that. And thats something that I, will explain to him. Go work harder and earn your job back, You lost COOL points when you QUIT, you would have earned a lot more respect by working harder. This is what, our Country is built on, hard work, not QUITING!!!!!!!!!

Many favorites will lose in the next few weeks but as the season matures you will see the cream rise to the top. No doubt it will be a good game. We had to replaced our entire offensive line and all DB’s. I worry because your QB is super but Avery Walls Mr. DB/RB/QB transferrred a private school. Moon worries me—still I believe NSWR will win.

Tucker fan stop spreading the lies about u beating MLK . We didn’t play that game like a real football game . The Rams beat the Patriots last night in preseason. MLk was trying young players out at positions. The game only went two quarters before being stopped because of lightning. Tucker does not want any of the lions in a real game beleive me.

Haha!!!… Its all good my man!!!… Im sorry yall felt that way!!! like I said I finally can enjoy myself now that I’m done with that program!!!… I never wanted to play QB anyways, I’m a cornerback, but no one could run that offense, so they groomed and prepped me to run it ever sense I was in the 6th grade. Wouldn’t let me go play corner, where I would shut anyone down. But it is all good!!!…I just feel bad that your kid has to go play 4 years for that guy!!!

we are in for a war tonight pebblebrook is a team to be reckoned with. We hope to be able to stay on the same field as them. Hopefully we wont make any mistakes because if we do Pebblebrook could run up the score on us consequently have to use the running clock. Our hands are full. Hopefully Pebblebrook will go easy on us. I doubt it though. hopefully we will survive this one.

Coffee lost last week to Brunswick HS and real had the better team. Coffee HS needs a new coach and staff. To much home boys coaching and politics from parents on who gets to play. The Head Coach is a joke, in over his head. The Asst Coaches are not AAAAA coaches. Many players are talking about quitting because HC plays favorites and use all kind of language. Happen last year and now the Trojans will be luck to win 4 games. They really have some very good players…its all bad coaching.

Camden should be ashamed for running up the score on Savannah. Bet their coach left the starters in there just for more playing time. They should have been forced to go to Region1AAAAA. Only 5 teams in that region now and four will go to the playoffs. So what if they had to travel more. They have been getting off without hardly any travel for years now! Camden apparently has “connections” at the GHSA.

Remeber the Name Sophmore Brice Ramsey the real deal. The 9th graders played more the starters did, it could have been 75-0 at the half. It may not seem so, but believe me he he did not run up the score. JJ Green, Attaway, Gelsey, Hopkins, Cousins and Simmons are real beasts, 9 starters will be back on that defense next year.

Still lots of room for improvements – They seem to have a lot of heart!

Marist won a game over what may be the weakest team in 6AAAA. My scouting report says that any coach worth his weight in whistles should open up a pass attack on Marist and they will walk away with a solid win. The secondary is weak, especially the FS and SS position. If that is all the DBs coach has, Marist is in for a long, long season. Marist seems to be still looking on offense, but may have a good runner or two. They have a great kicker. Douglass is in for a long season and Marist just may come to reality next week against Tucker. The Tucker QB just needs to pass and they will go to the W column.

AstroFan–Seems like the corners were alright. Marist is hurting for a FS. That was the weakest position on the defense, both the starter and the back-up. Neither appear to have the strength to handle a stronger team. The starter #23 got burned more than once, missed a tackle after a burn, and got pancaked a couple of times. Must be the coaches son. The SS wasn’t that great either. Not a whole lot of action for the LBs, but Marist’s D line was good. The kicker #16 was excellent. Was told he is a junior. The FB #42 was pretty good, but Marist is hurting for a consistent RB. After the coaches son #23 screwed up on defense, they put him on offense. He wasn’t effective there either. They appeared to be looking for a RB who could execute. #11 had a good couple runs, but no speed at all. The #22 ran the kickoff back, but was silent after that. The biggest offensive weapon was the QB #10. Marist’s O line is excellent. Very little talent at WR for Marist except #20. A couple of their WRs were missing blocks and #26 had a walk-away pass he missed. If what I saw from Marist is all they have, Tucker may go into triple digits on them. Douglass has the athleticism, but no execution. I remember #s 6, 4, and 7 as standouts. I wasn’t paying as much attention to them because we don’t play them this year.

Who cares how LaGrange scored their points?? Bottom line is we beat ourselves. We had every chance to win the game but the bottom line is, when you dont “sure tackle” you lose. If they do a BETTER job of tackling 1 and 45, we win, because Newnan had a few 15-20 yd pass plays and that was it. But we will be okay…WE have to get back to basics and do some tackle drills at practice lol…and as a Granger fan, whoever said we lost the playcalling battle, it was like watching the Liberty County game from last year all over again!!!

South Paulding’s fans filled the visitors side to support their Spartans but it was all RAIDERS from the start…the RAIDER defense allowed only 44 yards of total offense to South Paulding as the RAIDER offense moved up and down the field moving the ball thru the air and on the ground!!!
With the score at RAIDERS 7 / South Paulding 0 the Spartans had their only opportunity to make a game of it moving the ball inside the RAIDERS 10 but a fumble stopped the drive and the RAIDERS moved down the field to go up 14 / 0…
The game ended with the RAIDERS running out the clock on the SPARTAN 1 yard line with the score RAIDERS 34 / South Paulding 0!!!! GREAT JOB RAIDERS!!!
Next up the RAIDERS travel to Paulding County…who lost to North Paulding 50 to 7…!!! this week…

SWD got spanked in every aspect of the game Friday. The defense was absolutely horrible. If defense does not improve the team may not make playoffs. This team has good players but they need to do whatever they need to to improve each game or it will be a long painful season. Tucker looked strong on both sides of the ball. They should cruise through the regular season barring any major injuries.

Ryan. (if that is you) Son let it go, if you really wanted to make an impression on your coaches, team and the community, you ave realized the vision of the program. You say that you had been getting groomed to run that offense since the 6th grade, son it’s not about how well you run the offense, but what kind of leader you are. Are the other players willing to go into battle with you? Can lead them in that battle? For the 3 AAAAA region schedule, with the defense and talent surrounding you, yes you could. But, the bigger prize was a state title. You say would have been a shut down corner, at 5′3, not sure about that one. You say the coach promised you the job. If I was in the conversation I am sure it went, it is your job to keep. That means you have to be consistent in all aspects of the game, not just handing the ball off, or tucking ad running. You have to be able to pass, the offense was going to have to morph into some type of sprint pass or sprint and drop back pass. You did not have the skills to perfrom this. Your O linemen were all over 6′2. Factor in D linemen over 6′2 and you can see the challenge. You say coach did not call any colleges to look at you. I turn it around to you. Did you go to the coaches and ask then to put together some game film for you, or send that film to a school? Did you put in extra time to develope your passing skills? Did you apply for or attend any of the thousands of camps? Did you you look into any of the thousands o talent scouts to assist you. This also requires your parents to be involved. You have to sell yourself as well, take steps, the coaches have over 160 players to be concerned about. Initiative, son, you need to have it to be successful at any level. You lost a lot of respect when you “quit”. College coaches don’t like this. The bigger question is ” Are you going to quit in life when you don’t have things your way?” I hope not, I wish you well in your future endeavors, your future is ahead of you, not behind. You will never achieve success looking back.

Hey everyone — Great to see our regulars back for another season of HS football and we welcome all you fans who are new to our board. All we ask is that you don’t make your arguments personal (because seriously? what’s the point?), keep comments clean and respectful (football-based smacktalk is OK within limits; don’t go overboard) and DO NOT post as someone you aren’t (i.e., coaches, players, etc.).
To our old school regulars: Y’all know who you are and you know that we think of you as our deputy moderators of the board. Please keep up the great work of educating the new folks in what flies here and what doesn’t. And please continue to let US know when it’s time for us to step in and handle things. (FYI: Our regulars can tell you that you DON’T want that to happen. If you’re banned from the board we DO track you. Proving that you should be allowed back on the board can be tough. Don’t get yourself in that situation.)
All that said about the rules, which are easy to follow, we hope YOUR team has a successful and safe 2010 season and that you have fun with us each week here in the AJC Weekend Forum. Here’s hoping YOU become our next “regular.”

Ryan,, There is kids that grew up across the tracks in Kingsland, that is probably some the best football players in the State. And one or two are related to me,but if they don’t do the right thing and that is to go to class, make good grades and go to practice(not saying you didn’t do these things, just showing a point of whats best for the team). And if they don’t do these things they simply don’t play. And some of the kids could change the way Camden football is seen in the whole Country, and one or two could play on Sundays,I as a parent first, fan second I love it, and so does the entire County. 95 players have signed college scholarships since 2000, This man has had over 1300 kids come through his program over the last 10 years, so if there is only 1 digrunted ex-player he is doing a WONDERFUL JOB. All the kids and their parents I know and talk to loves this man. In fact I talked to one of your former team-mats and they tell a slightly diffent version. So stop it, Coach is one of the better Coaches, if not the best Coach in the State, but more importantly a better man. You should thank him he kept you in there a lot longer most coaches would have. Most Coaches would have never had you back there in the first place. You were good when you were silent. But when crticize, you open yourself up for crticism.

Correction GO UG!, most of your good players are playing in college now. Woodland-Stock has been around over 3 years. They are same kids that fell to lowndes 63-0 first yr and again 75-14 last season, but made the playoffs for the first time in AAA anyway. Now they are seniors and starting to click. When Clayton co lost its accreditation, alot of players flocked to UG. Once that happened players from Strong Rock(Aiken) and ELCA went over to UG too. UG became a respectable AAAAA team the last 2 seasons. However, most of them graduated last year, and now play for college. The fact is UG is not stacked anymore and cant compete like it once did with top notch Northside! One loss get over it, the season is long.

To BLACK AND GOLD 24:
Before you get on here all angry and guaranteeing victory from your keyboard I believe your anger is misplaced. You should be angry at your coach. I agree that South Panola were huge but before you say thats why yall lost lets look at a couple quotes from your coach post game. I told my wife that I knew S. Panola would score 38 to 46 points on us. Does that mean he thought you would score 50 on them after only scoring 9 on Cook last week? Or had he lost in his mind before ever playing the game? He went on to say…” I know our defence is pourous at best and we couldn’t get them lined up right to make matters worse” now that is a direct quote. I know if Lowndes’s coach said something like that I would be angry. So if its interceptions, mistakes and penalties that made yall loose then the finger can only be pointed in one direction. Straight at the coach…..but I thought your boys played hard the whole game. I am not worried about all that right now since Lowndes has a big game on Friday…I, for one, am excited to see what happens. We take it one game at the time over here at Lowndes….I guess we will have to wait and see what happens when yall come to Martin Stadium..

What’s up with this “weak in GA” poster? I am watching the Steele v. Madison game on ESPN and I will put either of these TX teams against Lowndes or Valdosta on anyday. Never disrepect GA HS football, especially not on a GA HS football board.
Black&Gold, the S Panola team did like thorough, but I would be concerned with Thomas Co Central if I were you, you could possibly be 0-3 next week!

To all fans: It is way too EARLY to push the panic button. Most of these games played have NO bearing on the state titles (unless you play an all region schedule). Seems like I remember Thomas County Central going 5-5 in the regular season & wound up winning state. A lot of these games are barometers for the teams before region play starts. A challenging non-region slate get you ready more so than one with a bunch of cupcakes.
Grayson beat Spain Park 20-9.
Another question: To the ones that crap on Ga HS football, tell me why they are the top 5 every year in having players get scholarships to college? Yes, I know California, Texas & Florida send more, but the population of those states are more than double of Georgia’s. Per capita, I would bet that Georgia sends more players than any state in the country.

What is great is this is week1 an people alreadyhave certain teams winning the state title? Come on people. Really? Lets take this one game at a time. High School Football is great all over. from 1A-5AAAAA. Swd didn’t look impressive against tucker but I guarantee they will be there in the end. You can take that to the bank. Stephenson wasn’t all that impressive but went into a hostle environment and came through in overtime. Really battled adversity and offensive turnovers. Grady did what they were suppose to do. Lowndes also will be their in the end along with Camden. MLK will compete as usual. If Parkview can get it together and put some points on the board with their offense, they will be a tough out in playoffs. Defense is very good but can give up big plays. Haven’t seen UG. Always like to read what Sportsfan31313 & SouthGARules. I must say interesting points you to have I agree to disagree on some of observations when it comes to Dekalb county school play. But it’s all in fun and in just ones personal opinion. I hope we can debate and have some fun over who is a contender and who is a pre-tender. Anyway, good luck to all the schools and lets see what this season brings.

Based on what I saw tonight at the Mays/Dunwoody game, Mays should be a contender (if they don’t implode). Tonight Dunwoody put up a better game than Marist did last night. Right now, I would say Tucker, Mays, Dunwoody, and SWD or Marist (a toss-up). We’ll see what the season brings.

Have you seen Marist? I saw them last nite and I am being generous by saying they MIGHT go 4th. I don’t know if Chadwick has a a couple of new coaches, but their defense (specifically the secondary) looked like recreation league football (physically and talent-wise). If that’s the best they got, they won’t make it to the playoffs. Read my earlier posts from last night. Either you are a player or you’re not. Personally, I hope they keep it like it is until they play us.

Refs were horrific in Spain Park vs. Grayson, they really changed the outcome of the game. The Bob Jones defense was just overmatched… North Gwinnett was a much better team, so the real test will be when North takes on Crenshaw, California next week.

trojan94 – Do you know you look like a moron when you type in all caps? If your spelling, grammar, and punctuation are any indication of the level of education of the average CHS graduate, then the school needs to quit focusing so much on football. Carrollton has been a good football team in the past at various times and so has Newnan. But for the past three years, Newnan has been a far superior team to Carrollton and they play in a far tougher classification and region. Carrollton has not even been on the radar.
All that being said, no teams in the state are on the level of Camden and Lowndes. The state championship is won or lost when they play each other. No one is in their league – not Northside WR, not Peach, not Sandy Creek, not Buford, not Griffin, not any Gwinnett team, and not Newnan or Carrollton. Until someone can beat one or both of them on a consistent basis (fluke upsets notwithstanding), they will be considered the best.

Why is it most bloggers on here hate stephenson so much? If there is an article about stephenson someone has something derogatory to say. If there is an article on a past or present player someone has something derogatory to say. If you don’t like the school just don’t respond. I for one am tired of the haters on this blog. Talk about your own squad and keep mine out your mouth. Schools come and go in the hierarchy of AAAAA but Stephenson remains and that type of staying power says alot about the people associated with that program.

@Joe-That’s why I said what I said. I asked a guy there about what was going on with the secondary. There was grumbling in the stands saying there is better talent there, but the guy said the coaches will never admit they made an error in judgement about talent. His kid is a running back with good talent so no sour grapes. ONE player in the secondary looked like a player #20. The rest looked like 5th graders playing rec ball. @MHS-I’ve seen Marist several times over the last 20 or so years. I’ve never seen anything like what I saw Friday night. Doug exposed them with no organization and no decent offensive scheme. Never seen anything like that from Marist. Their secondary has always been a weak link, but this was comical. Like they were playing jokes on Tucker. Go to Doug and get the game film. You’ll see.

Actually, 82dawg you’re technically correct……it’s called the “N” word now…..that’s short for “Networking”. Yes, recruiting is against GHSA rules, but a rose is a rose is a rose…….why do you think schools like Buford, which has a great athletic program, GAC (the christian spartans) and Marist “College” have good teams year after year after year? They recruit great (rob from other teams) athletes……they’re good programs, but their ethics stink!!!!!

Re: Stephenson. What a great PROGRAM. I say PROGRAM. I attended the game Friday night at Parkview and even some of the Parkview supporters commented on Stephenson’s success of getting their kids into college on scholarship. Going to college without parents having to pay for it…think about that during these economic times. I’ll take having 29 out of 32 high school seniors receiving a full scholarship over a fleeting state championship ANYTIME. Way to go Jaguars!!!….I’m one of your fns sitting with all the college scouts in the stands.

I don’t see where I was thumping my chest on here or any other Lowndes fans for that matter. As for wheather I like it or not…I am indifferent to it since the Lowndes/Colquitt game is 6 weeks away. Like I said.. we take them one at a time over here. I don’t really see what the big deal is since Colquitt is gonna make the playoffs anyway. And I was rooting for Colquitt to win that game. Why else would I be spending a Saturday afternoon watching a Colquitt game and posting the scores? No one can hold Saturdays loss against you….but the Cook loss is another matter. They are a scrappy team but Colquitt is a way better team than them and they should have never lost that game. By the way…those boys from Miss were big…if thats gonna be trouble for yall you should go to the GPB website and get a look at PTR and Graysons OL…cause they are pretty big as well. Just so you know…I want every team in region 1 5A to win all their games until they play us of course…LOL. Anywho, didn’t think Shiloh was going to test us anyway so I aint going to brag on that. The defense once again looks pretty stout. This weeks tilt over at Eastside should be a classic smashmouth affair, as the Eagles will be looking to atone for the thrashing the Rams dished out last year before Eastside went ham. I am sad to see da best region in high school football take a big slump this year. Tucker is the best team in the region by a long shot this year and its normally a big 3. Marist has dropped big time there secondary is horrible. Southwest Dekalb jus lost to much talent and they need time to get better. I happy mays and dunwoody have joined, Mays is the 2nd best team in the region this year and Marist, Southwest Dekalb and Dunwoody will fight for the last 2 playoff spots. This is a very sad sight. I hope Marist plays better than Southwest Dekalb did this week against Tucker.

Newnancougar, I totally agree with your comments. The winningest program in AAA the last decade was LaGrange(3 championships). For all the talk about great teams, Dekalb teams still have a long way to go as far as state titles. There can be only one state champion and as a county that’s where we keep falling short. It is a very good sign for Stephenson to go in and beat Parkview at Parkview. Certainly Parkview is no longer the team they once were, but they are still going to play good team football, and they are no pushover. Everybody on this board knows how much talent there is at Stephenson, and somehow they always fall just a little short. This is a very good sign. Maybe this is the year for Dekalb football?
I was surprised to see Collins Hill beat Roswell. Collins Hill has a quality feeder program and they always have quality players, but I did not expect them to come together so quickly with a new head coach. They have a very tough schedule ahead of them with teams like Norcross, P Ridge, and North Gwinnett. The CH Eagles have made it very clear they are ready to play, and they are only going to get better as the season matures.
There are a ton of great games coming up but the 2 that really pique my interest next weekend are Camden vs Miami Central (FL) and North G vs Crenshaw (CA). Not only will the Georgia teams be individually tested against very tough nationally ranked opponents, but these games will give all of us a sense of how Georgia is progressing against top teams in two of the toughest football states.
Grayson and North did a good job putting the smackdown on Alabamastan this weekend, but next weekend Georgia is really looking down the throat of the lion.
On the surface, I would expect both Georgia teams to lose. But somehow I just have a gut feeling that superior coaching at Camden may pull out a victory. Having seen some film on Crenshaw, I just do not see how North can match the speed, size, athleticism, and coaching at Crenshaw.
Lots of great football coming up in Georgia. What a fun time of year! It is hard for me to understand how anyone can dis these teams with so many great athletes performing at such a high level for the fans. They are all winners, and Georgia fans are very fortunate to watch such exciting football.
Are you kidding me?

@War Eagle-Sounded like a legitimate scouting report to me. Neither of the bloggers from Lakeside or Douglass said their team was better than yours, nor did they even rank their teams. Everybody in the world realizes that the Marist faithful feel that they are the Holy Grail when it comes to football, but others may not share the feelings. One would think that saying your team has a possibility of finishing 4th and going to the play-offs isn’t writing Marist off. Your condescending remarks about Lakeside and Douglass fans not knowing what good football looks like could very well be the basis of the opine that Marist folks are arrogant. Good luck to your Eagles and don’t wear your heart on your sleeve unless you want opposing teams to think they have struck a nerve with accuracy. Lighten up, man. The season is young!

Newnan essentially replaces Union Grove as a top 4 team in region 2, and are probably the team to beat. So with that being said; before you talk about what you are going to do to Newton, Im going to need you guys to take care of Peachtree Ridge and Woodstock first. My references to Stephenson are based on last year’s near miss against those guys, the defending region champs. As far as cupcakes go, compared to Newnan, its a cake walk I will admit. I love watching good teams play football on friday nights. Its great to see new teams emerge and become champions. Going to Valdosta High School in the late 60’s early 70’s was great. It never got old winning. After all, that’s what every team trys to achieve when they go on the field. Being a Valdosta Wildcat fan was the best. We only lost one game througout my high school days. It seemed that was the way it was supposed to be. It’s called tradition and it spreads to everything. The Band, Cheerleaders and fans felt the pride and thats a good thing. The town really is winnersville, USA. They are all real champions in Valosta and it’s not just the winning, they also know how to loose, if only rarely. Now because I from there, I think I can explain why they haven’t won alot lately. This has to do with the way people were brought up in the south and maybe everywhere. Whites had there schools and churches and blacks had theres. When Valdosta intergrated the schools the positive was no fights like other schools because the main thing there was to win football games and that they did better than anytime in history. When there was an equal amount of blacks and whites on the field is when they played there best football. The best players got the positions and they played 1st string, 2nd string etc. I can’t explain it past that but history shows they were the best teams Valdosta ever produced. When Valdosta High School has a good ratio of black and white ball players on the team is when they will become unstoppable again. I would love to see no private schools and you would see a big change I believe in our football team. I said all this to say I think Valdosta will have a good football team this year but I wonder just how good it could be. Valdosta had great teams before intergration and so did Pinevale High, the all black high school. I was forunate enough to see Pinevale High win a state championship game in the mid sixtys. You know I cheered for Pinevale as if I went to school there, they were from my hometown. Valdosta will be state champions again and you better watch out, it might be this year. Good luck Valdosta your thing. Go Cats Win!!!!!

Newton Co. the past two years weve won 3 out of 4 home playoff games. We also have a 29 game regular season winning streak. Dont expect that number to stop growing anytime this season. We have only lost 4 games in the past three seasons and 1 in each of the past two so I dont think Newton Co really scares us too much. We beat much better Rams in the quarters last year.

Stephenson is GOOD TEAM!! The scary thing about them is that the season just started and they will gel and improve…They are not really hot yet and they havent reached their peak. I was at the Parkview game and although the turnovers hurt them, it was only the FIRST game of the season. I can’t see the jaguars making the same mistakes later on down the road as the season matures. Stephenson’s offense does need to gel more and the defense is as tough as nails now! I can’t see teams putting up too many points on that defense. Remember… ALL of Parkview’s points came off of the jags turnovers…their O could do NOTHING with Stephenson’s D. So although Stphenson played sloppy at times, if they don’t turn the ball over, Stephenson still would win 21-0! And even though Parkview is not a dominant program now their team is good. If Flowe gets things together they will be in the playoffs and possibly shock some teams…Also, i see good traits in this jaguar team… to go in the big orange jungle, fight being down, battle back in a hostile enviornment and get the win says A LOT!! Stephenson, in my opinion will be very battle tested and more prepared than previous years in my opinion. They played Parkview, they take on Cedar Grove, then go south to face Tift County.. Games Stephenson should win. After Tift they have a week off and get ready for region play with Westlake. When region play starts i expect Stephenson to have gotten all the kinks out and be off and rolling! This Stephenson team should be a well oiled machine by the time the playoffs start.

@ Are You Kidding Me Thanks, dude. I saw the Mays/Dunwoody and could give the same report on them, but nobody asked or seemed interested. I only called it like I saw it. Not the least bit critical, unless you count calling the one kid the coaches son–that is the only reason I could come up with that he would stay in the game and even be put on the other side of the ball. Calling it like I see it. Didn’t put names on here. The “Marist Faithful” or at least quite a few men in the stands had the same opinions. Yeah the team I support doesn’t rack up the wins every season, but so what? It’s a football blog, dude.

As Lee Corso would say….Not so fast my friend! Stephenson is a good team. No doubt about it.I like the Jaguars alot, but I am also a real. If the Jags continue to practice and hit in pads everyday Monday-Thurs play game on fridays, they will be hurt, beat up, and tired by the time playoffs start. Injuries are a big part of why Stephenson hasn’t gotten it done in the past. After the early by week, you are talking about 7 straight weeks of hitting plus playoffs in which if they do run the table now your talking 12 straight weeks plus practicing in pads? I am rooting for the Jags to finally win it all, but I also know the ball have to bounce your way, a little luck, mental preperation and mistake free football. STATE TITLE! BRING IT HOME

To AAAA Fan – I think you must attend games to scout for your team or you are one obsessed fan. While I have no problem with your “report” of the game, I don’t care for the tone. These are kids not professional football players afterall. #22 is the starting tail back. He is a sophmore and he has incredible speed. Yes he ran the opening kick off for a touchdown. After that, Douglas decided not to kick to him. You are not correct that he didn’t do anything after that. He had other big runs and along with the qb, the offense quickly put points up. The coaches decided to rest him early in the 2nd quarter when the game appeared to be in hand. #11 is a back-up back and did a fine job. He only carried the ball 2 -3 times all night and had great runs. #23 (a great kid by the way) who you felt the need to mock is a back-up who got playing time because the starter was out with a shoulder injury. The starter will be back for the Tucker game. While you can report what you think you saw, there is no need to mock these kids that are doing their best. That is the problem I have with your post. I would hope that adults can show maturity, respect, and sportsmanship that should be part of high school athletics. I presume you are an adult, perhaps a parent.
Marist may not have their strongest team this year. All teams have their ups and downs. But they will play hard and we will see how next week goes. Tucker always has a strong team and it will take a lot of strong play on Marist’s side to win. Good luck to your team.

And I also wanted to comment that the Douglas team had alot of speed and talent even if the are young and inconsistent. Maybe the Marist secondary was weak but I’ll give credit to the Douglas QB and receivers who showed great spped. They played hard and it was a near penelty free game.

As a a fan of the NG Bulldogs, I was embarrassed when Camden came in an rolled us last year. One thing I’ll say for Coach Sphire is he understands you’re not going to get better if you don’t challenge yourself…I like us playing Crenshaw. Whether we win or lose, that experience will only help us when it gets down to the business of GA football. Right now, the reality of AAAAA is if you want the hardware, you’re going to have to go through South GA to get it. It’s very early, but I see a much more balanced team on the field than last year’s Bulldogs. We have the makings of a legitimate running game, something I have not seen since I have been watching NG. If you can’t play in the rain, then it will be very hard get by a good team. I don’t care about national hype, because it doesn’t matter when you can’t get past the quarters….what I do care about is an opportunity at redemption. I think we have as good a shot as we’ll ever have this year to get to the dome. I’ve seen the Ridge and I see another real head banger for the region again (I don’t think anybody else has a real shot in 7-AAAAA). But what I really want to see again is the Wildcats; I don’t care where – I don’t think we could have played any worse. A lot of good football to be played between now and then…..next up, Crenshaw!

GHSAA you should be ashamed for not placing more restrictions on Wilcox County. They should be out of the state playoffs for at least one year. They acted like a bunch of cry baby thugs!!!

@ Marist Mom I hope the hubby doesn’t take you to Vegas. Way to play poker…..just tell the the Tucker team what is in the arsenal. Take my advice….back away from the computer and go read the Momania blog. It’s a man’s game and not for the light of heart. I hate I’ll be watching the Dunwoody game Friday nite and won’t be at Marist to see who pulls out the win…….
