Preseason All-State: Class AAAAA

Here’s our preseason all-state team in the highest classification.

Five observations:

– South Gwinnett’s Kent Rollins could be this year’s Hutson Mason. He threw for 2,212 yards and 23 TDs last year in 11 games. North Gwinnett QB C.J. Uzomah, whom we put in the athlete category because he’ll probably play TE at Auburn, is another state player-of-the-year candidate from Gwinnett County.

– Picks by region go like this – 1 (7), 2 (3), 3 (1), 4 (2), 5 (2), 6 (2), 7 (5), 8 (3). Yep, Region 1 has five teams, seven first-team picks.

– The hardest spot to make was defensive back. North Cobb’s Darren Waller, who has committed to Georgia Tech, was left off, for example. “He’s 6-5, pushing 210 pounds, ran a 4.36 electronic time, power cleans 280, has a 3.8 GPA,” North Cobb coach Shane Queen told the Atlanta Journal-Consitution. “I don’t know what else you could ask for.” Tight end is was another difficult spot. We had to move McEachern’s Rory Anderson to WR, which he plays.

– The easiest spot to make was defensive line. Amir Mustufaa, the son of former NFL and Georgia Tech player Najee Mustufaa (formerly Reggie Rutland), is probably our favorite, as he was first-team all-region in 2009, but none of our four was a serious all-state candidate last season. Valdosta’s Jarquez Samuel didn’t make all-region last year but was a good player who might wind up at LSU.

– Only PK Matt Ehasz represents Camden County, the two-time defending champion. Just remember that only three starters return. One is DB J.J. Green, one of the best five sophomores in the state, but the competition at DB is ruthless.

Offense

QB – Kent Rollins, South Gwinnett, Sr.

RB – Tevin King, Colquitt County, Sr.

TE – Jay Rome, Valdosta, Sr.

OL – Garrett Clark, North Gwinnett, Sr.

OL – Tarik Cook, Stephenson, Sr.

OL – Joe Turner, Roswell, Sr.

OL – Xzavier Ward, Colquitt County, Sr.

ATH – C.J. Uzomah, North Gwinnett, Sr.

Defense

DL – Demetrius Alston, Norcross, Sr.

DL – Amir Mustufaa, Westlake, Sr.

DL – Jarquez Samuel, Valdosta, Sr.

DL – Angelo Watley, Peachtree Ridge, Sr.

LB – Tanner Botts, Peachtree Ridge, Sr.

LB – Christian Harris, Etowah, Sr.

LB – Edward Muldrow, South Gwinnett, Sr.

DB – Ronnie Harris, Westlake, Sr.

DB – Tyler Hunter, Lowndes, Sr.

Tyler Hunter, picked as a DB from Lowndes, caught two TD passes last week against Thomas County Central (Lowndes won 49-14). He has committed to FSU who may use him as a WIDE RECEIVER.

This year’s All-State AAAAA team has some really good players. Good job Todd!

btw, the Norcross DE is Demetrius Alston, not Demetrius Allen. We’ll get that fixed shortly.

Also, GHSF Daily will announce preseason all-state in the other classifications the next few days. If you’ve got nominations, post here. We really need more good linemen candidates. And a Class AA punter and DB. :)

I think those are some real good picks. Glad the city of Valdosta is represented. Lowndes and Valdosta High. I think this year the state will see just how good of an athlete Tyler Hunter is. He played receiver alot last game just to show how good he is. He had 2 TD’s now watch him get off this week at DB. Greg Reid of FSU calls him a freak. We shall see.

Remember these two names Kevin Byard and Demarco Robinson of ML King. These are two exciting players . Kevin plays safety , receiver and Quarterback. Demarco plays receiver and cornerback. The two of them would start on any team in the state guaranteed. You can see th play South Gwinnett on Sept. 3 .

These are all very good picks. The down side is you miss out on many sleepers. Newnan has several good OL that will be getting more looks as they progress through their Senior year. Good luck to all.

Wolverine2Blazer – The “Home” side at Martin Stadium has been pre-sold to season reserved seat ticket holders, except for a small sectioon that is for students. General admission is on the “Visitors” side.

How many tickets do you need? I might can help you with one or two.

Good to have you back on the blogs!

Very strong competition for AAAAA! Good talent overall. But there are several McEachern Indians that could easily be on the list, and I fully expect that several will by the end of the season. At the linebacker position, Marquise Roberts and Jefferson Ashiru are beast! Roberts is a an absolute STUD! At wide out Chris Davis is a player that has flown somewhat under the radar. He has been dominating the camp circuit this summer. He provides instant offense and is electric with the ball in his hands. Keep an eye on these players. and remember U heard it from The Chief 1st!

Lendell Arnold who led Newnan to 13-1 record pass for almost 2,000 yards and rush for almost 500. Lendell has a couple of offers and being recruited by Memphis Middle Tenn St Ga Southern Air Force.
Chris Beno Offensive Lineman Newnan last year All-Region performer is a dominating lineman for the Cougars. Dont take my word Todd ask Griffin or Valdosta Coaching Staff to see how good he is. Just like a couple of years ago Todd I told you his brother Ray(Ga Tech) is a beast Chris is the same way.
Also Newnan RB Chris Robinson over 1400 yards and 18 tds should be considered as well as DT OD Pittman a three year starter and the 3 seniors LBs Trevor Tanner Alberry Melson and Denzell Smith.

AVikingFan is Lowndes still as classless as they were a couple of years ago? My bad I should know that answer because you guys still have that jerk for a coach named McPherson. What a bunch of PUNKS!! I cannot believe the GHSA is still letting you guys play. I would hate to know I was associated with a bunch of clowns like you guys are. I would rather lose with class than win with a bunch of PUNKS like y’all have. Oh I forgot – we didn’t lose. We won the game. I guess you could call the fight a draw. I hope you guys get PIMP slapped every game you play!

Lowndes will be strong this year and camden is a given but i’m really liking the packers out of moultrie to turn some heads, and hopefully valdosta can surprise some people but trust me the AAAAA state title is gonna go south this year again.

Level Playing Field....Nope

August 17th, 2010
11:28 pm

Region 1 has now inherited the GHSA slime that it affords Camden County. A team in region 1 only has to win one (that’s ONE) region game to qualify for the playoffs. Almost as bad as Camden playing in a AA/AAA region and getting an unearned 1 seed.

I’ve lived in 5 different states and this is the only place where different parts of the state are always ‘chest-beating’. No class and childish and makes you folks look stupid. Georgia doesn’t even have that strong of high school football. Just look at the major college teams and you will see a pattern of which state supplies the players across the country. Georgia and Alabama have gone west a number of times in recent years for quality quarterbacks.

DostaDawg I have been watching Valdosta during their practices. I see no motivation leadership or enthusiam and they are not physical at all. Maybe that one of the reasons for the slow start in the scrimmage. The two quarterbacks in my view are not good passers. I think they will be better off with March. Defensive technique really worry me. I hope they work on these things before the first game. They do have some good talent though but I don’t think they will compete with the Packers or Vikings unless they begin to play more physical.

North vs South, you can be serious. It’s one thing to say that Georgia High Scho0ls don’t not many of a certain type of quarterback. It’s another thing to say GHS’s does not have that strong of high school football.

Georgia high schools produced more division I signees that any state bedsides Texas, Florida, and California last year. That’s evidence of pretty strong high school football. So you should take your own advice, look at the colleges and see the pattern of which states supply the players across the country.

PDF Spencer #62 is a big Tackle 6′5 320 has gotten a whole lot better since the middle of last year. Will be a D1 prospect by the end of the year based on ability rather than size. Will get tested early with Lagrange PT ridge and woodstock early on the schedule.

Grayson Ram: You guys continue to show no class. You will not find a better person coaching football at any level than Randy McPhearson. Notice I did not say coach, I said person. The fact the Refs let the game get out of control with bad calls and no calls led to a small flare up of tempers. Get over it, you obviously never played the game.

McEachern has a great test ahead of them with a talented Peachtree Ridge squad team. It should be a great game which will lead McEachern into there next test on September 3 against Lowndes. That will definitely be a great matchup. One of the best pass defenses in the state in Lowndes with Hunter, Ortega, and Durden. They will be trying to defend against Qb Thompson, Wr’s Davis, Etta tawo, and TE Anderson! It should be great to watch, but the Chief is going with the Indian squad all the way! I think Lowndes will have there hands full which will surprise some, but not those who follow McEachern!

I am probably going to get bashed for saying this, but if McEachern is really good, as I expect them to be, I think they could be Lowndes. Regardless of the score saturday, they will have played and experienced what it’s like to play a top caliber team, so they will be ready for the Vikings. Also, Lowndes is SIGNIFICANTLY better when they are playing in the Concrete Palace, and historically, most of their losses have come on the road.

Plowboy and Another Viking Fan you guys are the idiots for continuing to support a team full of THUGS and coach that condones such actions. McPherson IS a winner, but only on the field. What does he teach those guys. I mean come on when someone mentions Lowndes they don’t think about how good y’all are or how many titles you have won – they think about the terrible behavior and classlessness of your coach and players. Y’all will always be a joke as long as McPherson is there. He condones this behavior – and you cannot deny it because it is on tape! If you cannot beat ‘em then fight ‘em!! Lowndes motto!
