Will UGA coach Mark Richt add to his “Dream Team”?
Tucker High linebacker James Vaughters, who is among Atlanta’s top college prospects, will announce his college decision this week between UGA, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Stanford and Ohio State. Vaughters will reveal the grand prize winner at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, according to his father.
Over the past few months, Richt and his staff have tried to sell Georgia’s top high school prospects on the idea of the “Dream Team” – that if the Bulldogs can sign the state’s best, then they will compete for SEC or BCS championships every year. UGA has 11 commitments for its 2011 recruiting class, with only one — QB Christian LeMay of Matthews, N.C. — being from outside of the state’s borders. The homegrown products pledged to sign with the Bulldogs are led by East Hall DE Sterling Bailey and the “state’s fastest man” — Mitchell County WR Justin Scott-Wesley.
Earlier this week, Wilcox County two-sport standout Nick Marshall narrowly committed to UGA over Georgia Tech, while also considering football scholarships from Florida State and Alabama. The 6-foot- 3 Marshall will play defensive back for the Bulldogs, and also walk on the UGA’s basketball team at shooting guard. Marshall was also recruited by major colleges in basketball. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Vaughters, who has a 4.o GPA, is down to five finalists after beginning with 35 scholarship offers. This past year as a junior, Vaughters was hindered with a wrist injury at the start of his junior season. He finished with 57 total tackles, including two for losses. Two years ago as a sophomore, Vaughters was one one of the top players on Tucker’s state championship squad.

What’s in Georgia Tech’s favor? Vaughters likes the academic reputation of the ACC school, along with its proximity to home. He also developed a good relationship with new defensive coordinator Al Groh.
What’s in Georgia’s favor? Vaughters has made frequent trips to Athens to chat with coaches about athletics and academics. The Bulldogs already have a commitment from his Tucker teammate, safety Chris Sanders.

BrokeBackJacket, in addition to Joe Pa, Bobby Bowden, and Tom Osborne not winning NCs until they had coached many years, add John Wooden to that list. It took him 16 years to get that first national title, and he went 14-12 and 18-11 in seasons leading up to that. Any number of posters on here would have fired Paterno, Bowden, Osborne, Wooden, Tom Landry,Coach K, and others for not winning immediately.
This Dream Team concept that is coming together is bringing out the worst in UGA envy/jealousy. They don’t like the looks of that Red and Black Train coming down the track. It is going to be a fun ride, Dog fans.

James Vaughters looks like a bright young man with a great future ahead of him. Hopefully he will come to the flats, help tech continue to compete on a national stage, and get a great education. I am certain he will be successful at whatever school he chooses…
I wasn’t going to say anything but there was just too much hate for me to sit quietly. Why all the hatred for Harold? I admit, all the caps was probably not necessary, but he was simply stating “facts” he thought to be true. Instead of calling him an idiot, a moron, or any other demeaning name, dispute his “facts” with your own “facts”. Having a source makes your facts a lot more legitimate. I enjoy the rivalry between colleges especially Tech and UGA, but I have never been a fan of turning a rivalry between a two schools into a war between two different fanbases. My only biased input is that I have a lot of friends who are UGA and Tech graduates, and they are not the ones on here bashing the other schools. A lot of these trolls are bandwagon fans who deck out in UGA gear, bash the rivals, and act like they are a part of the bulldog nation, although they have never stepped foot on campus (unless you count the bars downtown). Rivalries are great but have some respect for the other schools and their fanbases. Keep these rivalries clean, and it makes it better for everyone involved.

I guess it depends on what he wants to major in. If he wants to come in and make a difference right away (UGA new DC, plays the best talent).
Athens is a beautiful college town, close to home but not too close. Got your buddy coming in to make that transition to college life a little easier for both of you. Choose UGA. But if you don’t good luck with your selection as all are very good schools.

james vaughters stats for 2009 season 57 tackles , 1 sack,1 tackle for a loss and you call him a top college prospect. you got to be kidding. uga fans yall do a bad job of evaluateing talent. also as long as mark richt is the coach they will never win a natl campionship. if it wasnt for james vaughters gpa he would be a blip on the recruiting radar. what makes me mad is that there a alot of players in the state that have better stats and and are extremly talented that dont get the press that they deserve.

I hope Vaughters chooses the Dawgs and joins fellow teammate Chris Sanders in playing between the hedges. However, it makes me in awe of a young man that can play at his level and stay disciplined in school to knock down a 4.0 gpa. This is truly what is meant by the student athlete. I wish James continued success and the very best of wishes regardless of where he chooses to play. Who ever receives his serivces I feel is getting a very special young man who has a clear vision of his future. Stay healthy and have a great senior season. Go Dawgs! PS Harold, take your medicine please.

It’s amazing to me that all fans think about is themselves. The crazy part is that most of you dumb a___ have never had a child in a position Vaughters FAMILY help put him in. He wasn’t born a 5 star, nor a 4.0 GPA in Advanced Studies. Where I’m from it’s called hard work. Dedication.. Discipline. Countless hours in midget league, pee wee league, watching film, personal trainer, money spent with travel teams. Considering the investment they have the RIGHT to go wherever they agree. Not YOU. Not ME. Not Richt. Vaughters Family. Go STANFORD. Go to hell UGA with your backward a___s. The Bull Dog is probably the smartest thing on campus.

Dream Team?? What a joke. The SEC already has “Dream Teams” in Bama and Gators. UGA you must win something before you earn the “Dream Team” name. My prediction for the “dream Team” is 7 and 5 trip to the blue turf.
