Will UGA coach Mark Richt add to his “Dream Team”?
Tucker High linebacker James Vaughters, who is among Atlanta’s top college prospects, will announce his college decision this week between UGA, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Stanford and Ohio State. Vaughters will reveal the grand prize winner at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, according to his father.
Over the past few months, Richt and his staff have tried to sell Georgia’s top high school prospects on the idea of the “Dream Team” – that if the Bulldogs can sign the state’s best, then they will compete for SEC or BCS championships every year. UGA has 11 commitments for its 2011 recruiting class, with only one — QB Christian LeMay of Matthews, N.C. — being from outside of the state’s borders. The homegrown products pledged to sign with the Bulldogs are led by East Hall DE Sterling Bailey and the “state’s fastest man” — Mitchell County WR Justin Scott-Wesley.
Earlier this week, Wilcox County two-sport standout Nick Marshall narrowly committed to UGA over Georgia Tech, while also considering football scholarships from Florida State and Alabama. The 6-foot- 3 Marshall will play defensive back for the Bulldogs, and also walk on the UGA’s basketball team at shooting guard. Marshall was also recruited by major colleges in basketball. (Click here for Marshall)
The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Vaughters, who has a 4.o GPA, is down to five finalists after beginning with 35 scholarship offers. This past year as a junior, Vaughters was hindered with a wrist injury at the start of his junior season. He finished with 57 total tackles, including two for losses. Two years ago as a sophomore, Vaughters was one one of the top players on Tucker’s state championship squad.

What’s in Georgia Tech’s favor? Vaughters likes the academic reputation of the ACC school, along with its proximity to home. He also developed a good relationship with new defensive coordinator Al Groh.
What’s in Georgia’s favor? Vaughters has made frequent trips to Athens to chat with coaches about athletics and academics. The Bulldogs already have a commitment from his Tucker teammate, safety Chris Sanders.

“Wilcox County two-sport standout Nick Marshall NARROWLY committed to UGA over Georgia Tech”
He narrowly commited to UGA over Georgia Tech?? He might have had to think about his choices but once he did, a commitment is a decision. Using your way of thinking, it’s like saying I got on I-75 and narrowly drove to Chattanooga instead of Valdosta!

I believe Vaughters will go to Stanford with O$U right behind them. Good luck to the young man, he seems to represent the state of Georgia’s academics well.
Harold, the only fact you got right was UGA is 20-12 in the SEC in the last four years, however, I challenge YOU to find 3 teams better in the conference in that time span. I’ll wait…………..
Bama? nope, as a matter of fact, congrats to Nick Saban this year, it is the FIRST time in HIS CAREER that he posted back to back 10 win seasons, quite an accomplishment. Perhaps he might match Richt and do it 4 straight years.
As for Kirby, will you please tell me who Saban had already contacted in case Kirby left? ……….waiting……….

Let me remind you of this: since your NC in 1980 (1980!!!), Florida has won 2, LSU has won 2, Bama has won 2, GT has won 1, and Tennesse has won 1. And Clemson has 1 too. You UGAY idiots are the most dillusional fan base in America, hands down…

So. if RICHT gets this DREAM TEAM then what? What if he doesn’t win the SEC East, the SEC Title, or the MNC in the next 4 years? Will you admit Bobo is a JOKE and Richt ain’t nothing special? UGA gets better talent that many SEC teams, but still remains below the TOP TEAMS and just above the AVERAGE TEAMS.

@POAD
You know, your life would have been much happeir IF you were not a college football fan…more specifically a nerd herd fan!
Did UGA have a bad year last year? Yes…according to UGA expectations! Did we play in the independance bowl in Shreveport? Yes. Might we well struggle this year with a freshman QB, while implementing an entirely different defense? Possibly!
As for you POAD..your lowly jackets will lose…again…8 of 9 and counting! You make fun of UGA for playing in shreveport…all the while knowing your team except for the fact that a .500 record will get you in a bowl…and for several years if not for the blue rug bowl and the emerald nuts bowl the nerds would not have gone to a bowl period!
Almost forgot…on one of your trips to blue rug bowl your pitiful fan base bought less than 300 tickets…an all time NCAA record!
All that aside…IF UGA is as sorry as you say…then PLEASE tell me what that says about your lowly team? According to your own logic and reasoning they certainly far less than average!
Can you dig it?

I can tell you that Chip & Carvell are good guys and good writers. They probably think this “Dream Team” talk is BS just like everyone in the SEC thinks it is. Remember…..they live down there with those delusional thinking fans. Remember, Georgia dreams about it. Florida, LSU, Alabama, and Tennessee have done it in the last 12 years. Georgia can’t even get to the SEC title game. Chip and Carvell know this Dream Team talk is nothing but talk—no walk! A lot of barking going on but no bite!

UGA gets better talent that many SEC teams, but still remains below the TOP TEAMS and just above the AVERAGE TEAMS.
And will you and that loonytoons a-hole, Harold admit you were wrong if the Dawgs win it all in 2-3 years, especially if they do it this year? They are just a step or two away, needing a tougher defense and better leadership at QB. That has arrived! I’m tired of all this talk about Richt and his team being irrelavant. They have smoked the Tide and Tech the past 9-10 years in recorded wins.
You fools have no idea what’s coming… and, if you do, you’re scared spitless! I don’t care for the “dream team” label, but call it what you like — it’s coming… you nim-witted foghorns. The Dawgs will take their place in the seemingly SEC-birthright… as National Champions of College Football. And, YES, that means taking down the mighty Gators in their march. You read it here. First of all you have no idea who was actually “offered” the D-Coordinator job. If you think UGA hired Todd Grantham as their second choice then you are delusional.
The Dream Team concept is lived out every recruiting season. UGA gets the top players in-state. This year is especially saturated and will be no different. I would expect UGA will sign 10 of the Top 15 players in the state at least as per the usual. And as per the usual it will make no difference. 9-3 to 10-2 and second in the SEC East and the Outback or Capital One Bowl. Respectable, but not elite. Respectable enough not to fire Richt. Man its gotta be getting tiresome being so close yet so far from a national championship. Lol at georgia.

BTW which two coaches were offered? Grantham and Smart? Chavis and Foster? Or a combination of all 4? Youre kidding yourself if you think talks didnt evolve with all 4 or more. You dont settle on a fired d-coordinator and current LB coach without realizing he’s the best you’re going to do.

Harold – you are a freaking moron.. Dude why did it take a national championship from Alabama to get you to talk on this blog about UGA. You did not hear from Alabama fans for 10 years because they sucked. Now all of sudden they are a dynasty??? Yeah dude whatever. Unfortunately they conference is changing and more competion is coming. The competition in the conference is catching up as well….See if you can escape Auburn this year. Likewise, you talk about UT against UGA – did you boys not pucker up when they almost beat you at home? They won the game – the Refs gave it back to you because that is how the SEC is with you and Florida. But the tide is changing – pun intended.
You are correct in your assessment of the past. But that is exactly what it is…the past. Richt has made some adjustments and if it continues, you will be saying damn we woke a sleeping Giant. Saban will leave Alabama to go coach a new team in 24 months or less.
I don’t really care how many people turned the job down just that it would appear we have the right guy for our program. We can see how the results play out the first season.
