FOOTBALL Recruiting: It’s UGA or FSU for former AJC Super 11 linebacker transferring from Southern Cal (UPDATED)

  • BREAKING NEWS: Will UGA’s Mark Richt add another “Dream Team” member? Tucker LB to announce between UGA and Georgia Tech, three others (Click here)

Former AJC Super 11 member Jarvis Jones, who was granted a scholarship release from Southern Cal coach Lane Kiffin, will transfer to UGA or Florida State.

If UGA lands Jarvis Jones, do you think it will help the Bulldogs with recruiting other Carver-Columbus football superstars?

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Jones will make recruiting trips to both schools within the next few weeks and likely decide by the end of the month, according to his high school coach.

Jones was one of the nation’s top linebacker prospects out of Carver-Columbus High, signing with USC over UGA, Florida, and LSU in February 2009. Last season, Jones was a reserve linebacker for Southern Cal last year as a freshman, registering 13 total tackles in 8 games. He suffered a neck sprain against Oregon and missed the final five games. He was not cleared by doctors to participate in Southern Cal’s spring practices under Kiffin.

How is the neck? Will Jones be given medical clearance to return to football? Carver coach Dell McGee said Jones was examined by several independent physicians, who determined that Jones could play again.

“He sought other opinions from other doctors,” McGee said. “Those other doctors said they would clear him if they were the active team doctor.”

McGee also confirmed to the AJC that both UGA and Florida State’s medical staff will examine Jones’ neck as part of a routine physical during his recruiting trips. Jones will also file a petition with the NCAA to play in the 2010 season.

Carver is a popular stop with college recruiters, as a pair of rising seniors — tailback Isaiah Crowell and defensive tackle Gabriel Wright — are also considered among the nation’s best at their respective positions. If UGA or FSU lands Jones, would it help either school with Crowell, Wright and other Carver players?

Could

Could JJ be the start of a Carver "package deal' for UGA or FSU? (AJC)

“I think all of those kids making those decisions are doing it because it’s a good fit for them … it’s not because any players are there,” McGee said. “Now I’m not saying that won’t happen. But I think the biggest thing before any kid makes a commitment is how he and his family feel about the school they are choosing.”

What is the latest on Crowell and Wright? McGee said both visited Auburn on Thursday, along with other Carver players.

Jones kept the nation’s until suspense on signing day of his senior year. Will Crowell and Wright do the same? Wait until February to reveal their college choice? “Right now, there’s a possibility they could do it at one of the [December] all-star games or signing day, they just don’t know right now,” McGee said. “They could do it tomorrow or wait until signing day. That’s up to them on when they want to make their decisions.”

One last note on JJ: He left Southern Cal before the football program was pounded by NCAA sanctions on Thursday. A major factor in Jones signing with USC was the presence of Trojans linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. , who left with Pete Carroll for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks in January.

Southern Cal freshman-to-be, WR Markeith Ambles of Henry County, is thinking about transferring and a decision could come in the next day or two, according to GAVarsity’s Brendan Cosgrove. Ambles enrolled early at USC in January. Georgia Tech offered Ambles out of high school, while UGA did not.

Welcome to all of them. We could use the depth. Yeah Columbus Insider, he must not be that good seeing as how he saw significant playing time as a true freshman for one of the most talented teams in the nation. And I’m sure your claim of injury will occur too as you must be a psychic. Why after knowing what we know now about the Rogers/Nance lovefest would you want them at UGA? One seems to be a talented prima donna and the other prima donna is just there to hold the other’s jock and a clipboard. Gotta give him props for snagging a scholarship to UT based on his friendship and a package deal. And for Buzzed, at least there are women on the UGA campus and obviously you’ve never set foot in the Classic City. I’ve got 4 words for ya…Flag Boy and Tickle Pile. Hide the women(Oh yeah, there aren’t any), Robert Hall will be in town tonight! Beat down time, wooo hooo! Come on, this is too easy…

GTU is talking trash about something that MAY have occurred to LeMay. What is the history of GTU’s athletes with FELONY arrests: Reuben Houston, Jarrard Tarrant (how in the world is he still playing for GTU????), Javaris Crittendon (brother can you spare a gun because I need to pull one on my teammate) and now Robert Hall. On yea, let’s not forget Little Joe Hamilton. If you live in a glass house, don’t throw rocks.

Spoke with a buddy on mine who coaches HS football in Charlotte and he doesn’t believe LeMay will be suspended at all. The skinny is he was caught kissing his girlfriend on a school field trip. With that said, who hasn’t kissed their girlfriend when they were in high school? I sure did and I believe I turned out just fine. A whole lot to do about nothing. AJC just stirring the pot.

Richt’s status as a no nonsense type of coach would balloon if he’d renege on the offer of a scholarship to Lemay. UGA does NOT need Lemay——————and the sooner the message is sent that Georgia won’t tolerate ANY athlete who thinks the University of Georgia owes them something, and that they are not above the law———-the better off they will be. Stop catering to these kids and making them feel like they’re above the law.No more slaps on the wrist———–just calmly tell them to play elsewhere.

I watched Jarvis JOnes play football his Junior year in High School because I worked at Carver at the time and I thought he was the best linebacker I had ever seen in a high school uniform! This guy was not just tackling people, he was laying people out! I wanna see him in AThens! I think Granthem could find a way to utilize him in the 3-4 scheme. I also think Justin Houston is about to be a star in this defense. He will be rushing the passer a lot and thats always a good thing.

I agree with some on here. I’m sure that Jarvis is a great football player just by reading up on him. Sounds to me that one good hit could end his career not to mention his life. Not worth continuing a playing career IF that is the case.

Good grief, can’t we ALL come to agreement that every College or Institution has it’s problems with about a handfull of 18-21 year olds doing something wrong on their football teams. Their kids! I have never said anything about another school when it happened to them because as sure as College Football starts in the Fall (late summer) there will be teenage kids doing something that they should not have. You guys are crazy to think that we don’t need Lemay. Richt will still sign him. It’s not like he brought a gun to school, or was fighting. From the rumor mill it was some “hanky panky” at school. I highly doubt Richt will pull his offer because of this. Remember his brother will be a top flight recruit in the next year or so. Also Marshall’s coach has stated that he really does not want to be a QB at the next level. His first love is bball. Playing QB at a major university would require alot more of his time than playing DB. This in turn would hinder his chances of also playing bball.

There are way too many “sissyboys” posting on these blogs, and you all know who you are(all you have to do is take a stroll around uga’s or gt’s campuses). Dismiss a guy because he stole a kiss, or was knocking the boots? C’mon let’s get real here! As far as i know, and have read, he did not sexually assault anyone. With all the homosexuality going on in this country, we should be proud of; boy see’s girl, girl see’s $$$$, boy wants girl, girl see’s lifetime security, and she does what women have been doing forever. And for all you “old coots”, who are “hetero”, and not out molesting 7 yr old girls, you should understand about raging hormones. If you can’t understand, then that’s the reason your wives are cheating on you, while you’re here, posting your outrage about kids caught doing what kids do. Christian Lemay will be the next great qb at the UGA(not Aaron Murray), and good ole’ boys are already trying to put roadblocks in front of him. But he is the truth, and Mark Richt already knows this, and will not overreact to petty little things.

Christian is a great kid that made a common high school mistake. I’m not condoning his poor decision, but he is a high school young man with hormones. I do find it funny that GT fans are of course jumping on this story. I’m sure that high school sexual behavior is appalling to GT fans. It’s only normal if it involves a computer for them. I know it’s hard to believe but high school males are attracted to high school girls except for GT people. The irony is that a GT player was suspended too. Where is all the GT condemnation of his behavior? Yes, GT fans are hypocrites. Yes, UGA is the superior program. The results speak for themselves. Last season was one of GT’s best seasons ever and UGA was struggling, yet we won again. When Daniel Miller committed to UGA, GT fans ripped the kid to pieces. I wonder if they still feel the same way when he signed with GT.

You still have a full ride at a relatively prestigious university that plays football at the highest level in a big time conference. That being said, I hope UGA lands him.

Because I have a taped interview of him saying that he wouldn’t want a player on his team that did LIVE up to his commitments. That he thought it was wrong and shows a lack of “character and judgment” when a player flocks to another team AFTER having committed to a school. What a hypocrite CMR is.

Robert Hall pushed a student, former Georgia tek basketball player Brigitte Ardossi, into a bathroom and later slammed her into a door, and then slammed her into the wall of their on-campus residence, according to an incident report filed by Georgia Tech police.

Brigitte was bleeding from her head and had blood on her shirt when police arrived. A Grady EMS unit treated her. Robert Hall was arrested and taken to the Fulton County jail.

This incident took place LAST SUNDAY, and it took a FULL WEEK for it to hit the newspaper. A full entire week. AJ-C hovers over the arrest dockets in Athens, every few minutes.

AJ-C report on the incident NEVER ALLOWED ANY SORT OF post by ANYONE. This too, is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from how EVERY ARREST is handled in Athens.

On the VERY SAME DAY that this report was filed by the AJ-C, not allowing ANY comments, the AJ-C reported on Christian LeMay having sex on campus with a willing young lady, and the AJ-C ALLOWED COMMENTS.

Herelis, can you read? I assume you can because you can write. USC wouldn’t allow him to live up to his “commitments.” It wasn’t the players choice, the school said he CAN’T play because he is injured. They told me that the AJC was going to put a “Must have an IQ bigger than shoe size” requirement on these blogs, but I guess that hasn’t happened yet seeing as they allow you in.

Robert Hall is a Senior on Georgia tek’s football program who had an injury 3 games into his Junior Year last year, and he is Black.

Brigitte Ardossi is from Australia where in order to even visit the place, you must submit a color photograph of yourself and if you are Black, they go way out of their way to make sure you are not allowed to even visit the place. There is an Aboriginal Land Rights Act in Australia where every Aboriginal is given huge sums of money every week.

Besides being beat up by her boyfriend, Brigitte Ardossi, was drafted in the WNBA by the Atlanta Dream where she joins several Lady Bulldog Basketball Players, all far prettier than Brigitte Ardossi who is anything but. In the 31 games between Georgia and Georgia tek in Women’s Basketball, Andy Landers’ teams have beat Georgia tek 29 of the 31 meetings. 27 of 29 years, UGA Lady Dawgs have been to the March Madness NCAA Tournament. And, in football UGA is 60-37-5 vs the over-stressed Georgia tek.

Robert Hall was designated by Georgia tek to be the STARTER at Defensive End last year and weighs in a 265 lbs.

Full name is Robert Louis Hall, Jr. . . . Parents are Robert Hall, Sr., and Patricia Nelson.

Robert Hall was injured in high school, injured in his Sophomore Year, injured again last year, and now this.

Way to go Georgia tek, Starting Defensive End Robert Hall a hulking 265 lbs. football player beat up a girl, a student on campus at Georgia tek.

Georgia tek is 1 of the 2 most stressful colleges in America because of the crime in downtown Atlanta slums where the school is located, and because their students have no social life at all whatsoever.

San Fran Ryan,

It is of special significance that already 2 of the 85 Southern California football scholarship players have interest in The Georgia Bulldogs, already.

Southern California loses 30 scholarships, 10 a season starting NOW.

They remain, today, 31 games ahead of UGA keeping us from the Top 10 All-Time in College Football Wins.

I haven’t ever seen a list of the college football all-time winningest teams and seen it shown past 10.

It has been a long time further back than Georgia’s last National Championship in 1980, that Southern California has won a National Championship.

With the Big XII Oklahoma saying that it is going with Texas to the PAC-10, it will be a cold day in hell when Southern California can put up the wins under Lame Kitten that they did under Pete Carroll.

Southern California is probably a lifetime ahead of Georgia at 31 more wins all-time. This is our time to make hay against them. And, make no mistake about it, Southern California is who our target is.

PAC-10 will NEVER be approved by the BCS to have TWO (2) Automatic Bids, as is their request of the BCS already, since the Big XII is losing their automatic bid.

That is $20 million a year more than the $20 million a year already the PAC-10 gets, and they need that to come up with monies for 2 conferences that frankly both have had poor ratings. No one in the Land of Fruit and Nuts watches football.

So, therefore, if UGA is in consideration for 2 of the 85 Southern California Scholarship Football Players, Southern California could lose more games coming up than Georgia if we could just get our act together Offensively. If they then could lose 5 games a season, we could pick up some of the 31 wins all-time we are behind Southern California in 11th place all-time.

Other than that, I don’t really care other than they like everyone else has been coming into this state and stealing our best players, especially on Offense.

Ole Dog, Your comments make plenty of sense. The majority of folks that want these kids to play despite their attitudes and actions are the same ones who get to read about arrest records as a result. UGA does not owe them a damned thing except a chance for an education and a chance to better themselves for their future. If a kid doesn’t appreciate that golden opportunity for a free college education he has no business tying up a schlorship other kids could be deserving of. If it looks and sounds like a duck then it probably is a duck. Hope UGA will learn to stay away from so many street hoodlum types whose interest seems to be imitating pro hoodlums setting poor examples. It is amazing how simple some things are and how you guys can’t follow the numbers. (1) Jones had a neck sprain and they found some degree of stenosis, i.e., an excuse for Kiffin to get rid of the kid (2) Kiffin has known for some time the NCAA sanctions were coming and he was going to lose a boat load of scholarships, (3) with the current state of USC football, Kiffin needs to recruit healthy studs that can come in and fill “immediate need positions” on the roster. JJ didn’t come in and win a starting position as a freshman or significant playing time, so he’s out.

In this pared down squad, Kiffin will have to jettison some really good athletes so he can roll the dice and try to recruit the very best. If not, USC doesn’t have the depth to compete for the next 4-6 years.

Simple as 1, 2, 3. Look for more of the same scenario from Kiffin in the next couple of years.

Regarding this post from some Brat calling himself “Diamond Dog” something or another.

Talking about academic ineligibility?

I guess you forgot the Jam Kemp and the blatant inappropriate academic issues during the only golden era of football at UGA.

Ask just about anyone who played ball there during the early 80’s about “Developmental Studies”….

Just ask anyone who played football at Georgia Tech from 1893 – 2009 and the current ones there about “Course study guides.” Athletes are issued a study guide at the beginning of each class and all they have to do is not lose it; then turn it in at the end to receive a passing grade.

At least try to sound like you’re a grown man when you post publicly. Anyone here notice the whiney, bratty tone of these posts?

When looking at insults from GT fans, remember, they are more afraid of UGA now than the last 9 years. For the first time under CMR, GT will be facing a UGA D that is run by a former NFL D-line coach and as well as a former NFL DC.

They don’t run the option in the NFL because it’s too easy to defend; it doesn’t stand a chance of working. You defend the option with FAST players playing fundamentally sound assignment football.

Sound familiar? It is what Grantham, Belin, and Lakatos have been preaching since they arrived. UGA will blow out GT this November and for many Novembers to come.
