Tennessee football recruit Da’Rick Rogers had ‘a lot of bad dealings with UGA coaches’ before switch, according to QB Nash Nance
11:59 pm June 7, 2010, by Michael Carvell
Why did Calhoun wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers, the state’s No. 1-rated football prospect, make the last-minute switch from UGA to Tennessee last February?
Rogers isn’t talking, but his high school quarterback provided some insight into the infamous flip, according to the Knoxville News-Sentinel.
“The [UT] coaches are a lot more professional … He had a lot of bad dealings with Georgia coaches,” said Nash Nance told the newspaper.
Nance and Rogers both signed with Tennessee, and enrolled in summer classes last week. Neither Nance nor the News-Sentinel disclosed any specifics on the “bad dealings.”

Da'Rick Rogers (left) isn't talking but QB Nash Nance is (AJC)
Here are a few other items of interest from the article:
- After Rogers changed his mind, Nance and his father “got crucified a lot on the Internet.” Nance said both he and Rogers got death threats, but neither called the police. ”Da’Rick and I both got a lot of Facebook messages and wall posts that were insane. Nothing was ever serious – I don’t think.”
- Calhoun coach Hal Lamb supported and defended his players after they both switched schools, even if he was privately disappointed, according to Nance — who was committed to Vanderbilt before flipping to Tennessee. Nance said Lamb is very close to Vanderbilt’s football staff. Also, Lamb’s father, Ray Lamb, is UGA’s coordinator of high school relations. “I’m sure they all wanted Da’Rick to go to Georgia,” Nance said. “But [Hal Lamb] was real accepting of the fact that we signed with Tennessee. I don’t know about his dad. He’s a little different breed than our coach.”
- Nance knew that Rogers both liked Tennessee and was reconsidering his pledge to sign with UGA, but says he wasn’t sure about Rogers flipping to the Vols until signing day. ”It wouldn’t have surprised me if he would have pulled out a Richmond scholarship, signed it and gone there,” Nance told reporter Dave Hooker of the News-Sentinel.
Update: Both Hal and Ray Lamb, along with UGA recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner, could not be reached for comment on Monday. UGA spokesman Claude Felton told the AJC that UGA’s coaches are out of the office at camps this week, but was confident that Garner and the elder Lamb would not comment in response to Nash’s accusations. What about Da’Rick? He appears to be keeping a low profile, doing his public speaking via Twitter.

I agree with Gator Bob just beat Tennesee and the story will go away.We know that Nash rode Rodgers’coat tails and that he was not recruited by UGA and he was insulted.I wish would just shut up and play, but he will never take a snap in a game..

Da’Rick was a five star that pulled away about the same time they painted that little dog at Georgia. I knew painting that little dog was a mistake.

I think the reason Nance says UGA coaches are unprofessional is because UGA told him they wouldn’t take a QB, while later on they did take Mason as a QB. But Mason is not Nance, that’s the problem.
If UGA took Nance, he would say UGA coaches are the most professional bunch in the whole white world.
It doesn’t matter. UGA has been ranked top 5 in recruiting for years except for last years. UGA’s got talents. Go ahead and beat Tennessee is all you have to do shut the guy up.

UGA has good recievers and several good prospects coming in.Losing one unproven talent won’t hurt much. Randy Moss could not have helped UGA be a top program last year, so, big deal. Just fix that defense and O-line issues and life will be good for the dawgs.

Marlon Brown ended up in Athens partly because Orgeron showed up to meet his grandmother smelling like a brewery.
If I were a UT fan (first thing I’d do is shoot myself), I’d be very thankful I stole Rogers. Looking at the recruits who are looking that way this year, it may be time to try and switch to the MAC. It will only get worse when you get another dose of 5-7….at best.
The entire Nash family is trash. All the $$$ in the world does not buy you class. It might buy your no talent son a schloarship, but soon enough everybody will know what people around here already know. He could not start for UT Chattanooga much less a SEC team.

These kids obviously valued an education, so they chose not to go to Jawja. Screw every “adult” that bashes a child for not going to their
“modern day plantation”, a place where these kids are welcomed to play a sport, but wouldn’t be allowed into an alumni’s home!!

Reading these blogs its not real surprising the the amount of hate mail and death threats these guys got. Almost 200 posts in a little over an hour. Most hate filled posts. Some of you are complete maniacs and need to chill out. Its just football. If a high schoolers decision on anything impacts your life that much then you really need therapy.

Does anyone really believe CMR would act unethically or shady in dealing with Rogers? Come on. First, our staff is criticized for being too straight and moral. Then we get harpooned by people saying our players are all felons (for an underage drinking and driving without a license). Then we are back to criticizing our staff as being too Chrisitan. Now, we are shady again.
This is just not believable. I have a feeling something was dishonest alright, but coming from Knoxville. Whatever, we will just play the games and worry about that. This recruiting stuff is secondary at best

Why are we still talking about this? Interesting that Da’Rick seems to be a little more mature than his friend Nance, the honor student. I suspect that Nance may be a tad bitter that UGA wouldn’t offer him… he just needs to shut up and prove he deserved the scholorship to Tennessee. I see no upside for any recruit to bash the way a team treated a fellow recruit.

Based upon recruiting this year, i don’t think we miss Da’rick at all. I read where there were some behavioral issues that almost prevented him from graduating and that he missed alot of days of school. Based on that, i think we got lucky when this guy chose to play elsewhere.

Oh, and Dawg H8ter, if you think Tennessee is a higher ranked school than Georgia and has stronger academics than UGA, you are smoking crack. Just look to Business Week, WSJ, and other independent sources to see the rankings of the top 100 universities. Here is a hint: we are in the top 40 (top 20 for public universities). Tennessee isn’t even on the list.

Dawg h8ter, In spite of the h8tred of your post, I tried to look for some truth in there somewhere, but just couldn’t find any. If these kids had been looking solely for education, they would both gone to Vanderbilt. Not sure what the plantation stuff is all about. You might want to attend some anger management classes.

Obviously the article is intended to stir up the dawg nation..Vol fans lest not forget that your blogs were downright cruel over the fact that the young man Marlon Brown signed with the dawgs…I think we need to cool it on bashing these young men, and not give this too much publicity…Its apparent that some things went down with last minute change of mind of Da’Rick, but we may never know the entire truth, so lets just move on and worry about future recruiting and the how the games play out on the field..Personally this article is much to ado bout nothing, other than getting people riled up…

I lost all respect for these two when I read the backhanded slap of Ray Lamb. I’ve known Coach Lamb for over 30 years and he has been a class act the entire time. If kids have a problem with him… then I gotta suspect the kids.

More chaos in Athens. More sloppy football. More lazy tackling. More INT’s with a redshirt qb.
Yet the fan base continues to think they will win the sec. You can’t make this stuff up.

Da’Rick from a coach’s point of view.
My next door neighbor is a coach who has coached against this young man. He tells me Georgia is much better off without Da’Rick. Some real attitude issues which the Bulldogs do not need. His whole demeanor says he is into himself and not the team.
He also tells me the 2011 recruit Chis Conley has a great attitude and is smart. He feels like we have a tremendous player who will play for the team and not himself.
As for young Nance he is a kid supporting his friend. We should just forget about these statements and look forward to next year. Have any of you ever heard one bad thing about the way our coaches
treat recruits whether they sign with us of not. Things have gotten out of hand with this. We Bulldogs need to take the high road on this one. Wish everyone well and go on.

Why does the AJC print such articles? You folks do all you can todig up, create and print the negative about UGA and CMR. This type of reporting is beneath any good newspaper and any good reporter. Give us a break and quit reporting on UGA and write about others.

Good luck to both of them at UT. So, an 18 yr old changed his mind about college and got grief on the internet. What did they expect? I still think that whole deal stinks. The QB won’t see the light of day during a game. I’m sure he will be taken care of by UT.

The said part for the Nancy’s is when this kid gets to practice and realizes that he’s the 4th stringer and can’t complete a pass. His teammattes are going to find out that he was the 2 for 1 deal with Da’Rick and this kid will be transferring after his red shirt year. If you can’t play, you can’t play. It all goes down hill for Nancy boy. What goes around, comes around. If Da’rick does play in the NFL guess who’s going to be coming to him begging for cash.

Nance did not lure the liar to Tennessee. That was a done deal before Nance even comitted. Tennessee would have never even offered Nash unless the liar agreed to also comit. The idea that Nash was offered first and the poor ole liar had a last second change of heart is a load of bull. Tennessee, the Nances and the liar all knew that he was not going to sign with Georgia before Nash commited to Tennessee other wise they would never have offered Nash. Money and being a guttless wonder is what got the liar to Tennessee.
mr Fool nance answer me one question. The liar was probably the most coverded player in Georgia’s recruiting class, what on this earth would make the Georgia coaches do something that would alienate him? What? Sir you are a liar and a blow heart. I do wish your poor son all the best, but the liar! Break a leg kid. No! I really mean “break a leg”.

Doesn’t really matter, I watched Nance play at Darlington and Calhoun. He is no D1 QB. He cannot throw a deep ball accurately. When you have 6 catches and 2 td’s for a total of 220 yards in one game by only one receiver, you sound like a heck of a QB and you can roll up some more stat sheet.
