Is Isaiah Crowell of Carver-Columbus the best running back in the USA?
At least one recruiting service thinks Crowell is among the nation’s elite, with Scout ranking the 6-foot, 215-pounder as No. 2 in the country.
Last year as a junior, Crowell rushed for 1,907 yards and 22 TDs on 175 carries. He also caught 18 passes of 241 yards and 3 TDs. He has more than 40 scholarship offers, with Alabama and Georgia as his leaders, according to CUTigers.com.
The recruiting services — and colleges — always love high school running backs from Georgia. Last year, the national lovefest was with M.L. King’s Mack Brown (signed with Florida), who didn’t come anywhere close to meeting his enormous expectations, partly due to a nagging leg injury.
Ironically, Crowell and Brown have a lot in common as running backs. Both are speedsters, a threat to score from anywhere on the field. Crowell is a little bit bigger and stronger than Brown was before his senior year, while Brown has an edge over Crowell with his shiftiness in the open field, along with more raw speed. Like Brown, Crowell doesn’t appear to have much interest in blocking, at least in high school.
You can pretty much bank on Crowell having a monster senior year. He is surrounded by far more talent at Carver, therefore defenses won’t be able to key completely on him, as they did with Brown this past season.
Carver defensive tackle Gabriel Wright (6-2, 265) has nearly as many offers as Crowell, while offensive tackle Quincy McKinney (6-3, 300) is closing fast with offers from Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Duke and Michigan State, among others.
Dell McGee, Carver’s coach, is expecting breakout seasons from a few other players:
Justin Brown, OL, 6-2, 270: “He will be the vocal leader of our offensive line and adds a lot of experience and accountability to the unit.”
Dequindre Adams, WR, 5-11, 190: “He was hampered by a hamstring injury last year. He has speed to burn, and we are expecting a lot of explosive plays … and will have opportunities due to our run game.”
Trey Simpson, DT, 6-0, 270: “He will be the vocal leader on the defensive line, and is just one piece to a talented defensive front.”
Everybody knows that Carver has moved down to Class AA, where it will challenge Buford for supremacy. The two powerhouses play each other on Sept. 3. Carver also has a non-region game vs. LaGrange (Sept. 16) which could be shown on national TV.
Team: Carver Tigers
Spring Game: May 20
Last year’s record: 11-2
Starters lost: 9

Pi$$onaDawg – Scholarships are grants for the most part, reissued each year. You can always do like Saban and have 25 each year. Just have the poor preforming players transfer. His program is ran much like the pro’s. Injured players are another matter.

GA is always loaded at runningback but we cant mention runningbacks without including Stephenson RB Willie Davis. This kid is loaded with talent he can go by you or he can go through you.Check him out on youtube and judge him for yourself.ICrow is a beast but if he is the best back in the state WILLIE has to be 1b.

Not for nothing but I am holding out hope that somehow James Wilder Jr comes to UGA. If you want to write an article on a stud RB thats the one to write. (Alabama is recruiting the kid to play DE!). Look for these top RB’s to start falling into place much like the QB’s did once the UF kid committed.
James Wilder Jr. out of Plant high in Tampa(yes, the same high school as Aaron Murray and Olsen Charles) will be your 2012 contender and 2013 winner of the Heisman trophy.
Its almost a given that Crowell will go Alabama, begining the domino effect.

1bighammer,
In Division College Football, I don’t any Colleges on the West Coast winning the National Championship as lately. In my opinion, they are over rated (USC Trojans)
The SEC has been dominating lately and in Major Bowl Games….

Isaiah Crowell will do fine at either of the two where ever he lands. Hopefully, Mike Ricth will land him at Georgia.

It’s amazing what recruiting can do in high school football. In Columbus, Shaw did it, then when Flowers left, Carver took over. If you think I’m kidding, the Carver coaches have a recruiting board of the top middle school players in Columbus. It’s a joke. No doubt Columbus is loaded with talent. But ANYONE can win when you actively recruit.

I cannot believe some of the statements I am reading by these Alabama fans. UGA has one off year and now they’re an irrelevant program? Alabama until 2008 hadn’t done crap for 15 years. 1 Sec championship, and no BCS bowl wins. Alabama fans are brainwashed. UGA finished #10 in 2008 and #2 in 2007, wow! That was certaintly a long time ago wasn’t it.

I’ve read all of the slanted articles written by Alabama “ya hoos” over the last 2 or 3 months, and they all say the same thing. That he is 100% Alabama. But I saw out of his own mouth that Georgia has always been his favorite school since childhood. Granted, he does like Alabama a lot, but the ya hoos that think that he has already made his decision need to read some more subjective reports on his recruiting. He is very much undecided and choosing against his childhood school which he has always dreamed about is going to be very difficult for him to do. So I look forward to Alabama being dominant for a 2 more years and then they will go on probation for cheating again, and then will be irrelevant again.

Pound 4 Pound, I checked out Willie Davis on youtube and I think it makes for a strong case that Isaiah Crowell is not even the best back in Georgia. Willie Davis(Stephenson) maybe the best back. You better believe it. This guy is all the the way turned up.

Dawg 3/20 you are an idiot. Is this your sat score? Give me a break. Your talking about one year and that class was not a very deep class. This class is much deeper.
Crowell is the best running back in the nation hands down. I’ve seen him play and he just makes you think wow, how did he do that.
