The Cobb school has only one won more than seven games one time in the 15-year history of the football program.

Where is the hope? It’s with coach T.K. Dodd, who is in his second-year of coaching the Spartans. Campbell has been a revolving door for coaches, with four different ones over the last five years.

Campbell, which was 2-8 last year, will return its Team MVP, two-way lineman Henry Hankerson (6-foot-1, 295 lbs.). “He’s aggessive, coachable, mobile and a very strong player,” said Dodd.

The team also welcomes back its highest-graded offensive lineman from last year, junior Tyler Houston (6-0, 290). Senior free safety Trey Fluellen (5-10, 170) was among Cobb County’s leaders in interceptions last season.

What about spring practice? Campbell is desperately seeking a QB for the first time in three years, with Caleb Edmonds as the top candidate. Dodd is also searching for a No. 1 tight end and defensive lineman.

The Spartans are excited about the potential of WR Arviel Jenkins (5-10, 160),  who has all the physical tools but just needs to gain some more confidence in himself.

I graduated from Campbell of Smyrna in 1978 and the school had been around for years then. They had a damn good football program around that time. What BOZO wrote this article?

Thanks for your posts. Typo was corrected. Yes, according to GHSFHA, the “new” Smyrna has competed since 1989 …

“What do you think will turn Campbell into one of Cobb’s top football programs?”

Only one thing will turn Campbell into one of Cobb’s top football teams, one thing that is sorely lacking in Campbell’s district when compared to other top football programs in AAAA and AAAAA…. Money!….and lots of it! When talking about Cobb County football, money is something that the most competitive teams, like Walton, McEachern, Hillgrove, Harrison, etc in Cobb seem to have alot of.

And isn’t it a shame…b/c the EC parents have more $$ than us south west cobb parents& we have kids leave our district to go to those schools… Not fair to the kids here who stay, work hard an b/c of economics don’t have the extra edge! I will support the CHS Spartans, the best way I can… $10 last week at a car wash for the girls’ softball team. Or donate to my daughter’s lacrosse team… So what if we don’t win… We love our students & our athletes…!
