Kell has made back-to-back appearances in the state playoffs, and the team’s chances look good again with 10 returning starters.

The Cobb County school has two of the metro’s best in the offensive backfield:

  • Brian Randolph (6-1, 185) is arguably the state’s No. 1 prospect at safety. He was hindered most of his junior season by a shoulder injury but is nearly back to full health. Randolph has a dozen scholarship offers, including Georgia Tech, Florida, and Tennessee. He is a two-way standout for Kell, rushing for 1,303 yards and 10 touchdowns last year. He also added 138 tackles with 3 interceptions. Note: Randolph may miss some of spring ball due to track. He will also be non-contact for all practices to protect his shoulder.
  • Austin Petrik (6-1, 180) will be evaluated by scouts this year. He passed for 800 yards and 8 TDs, while rushing for 562 yards and 2 TDs. With defenses focusing on Randolph, Petrick’s leadership and command of the offense will determine Kell’s success.

Pick a winner for Region 5-AAAA North.

Kell is looking for a few good men along the offensive and defensive line. The Longhorns are also searching for targets for Petrik, as three out of four wide receivers graduated. Coach Derek Cook is excited about the potential of junior wideout Hunter Marshall (6-3, 185).

Kell fast fact: Did you know Kell is the alma mater of Jonathan Dwyer, who won the AJC’s Class AAAAA Offensive Player of the Year honors while carrying the ball for the Longhorns? Dwyer went onto fame at Georgia Tech, and was drafted by the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers.

Hey Mays Ride….Mays had better worry about making the play offs first then they can worry about playing Kell or anybody else.

Does Kell have enough talent to overcome the coaching. Coach Cook is so predictable in his offense you can tell what they are going to run on 3rd down when it’s still 1st down.

I think Sprayberry will make another run at this region. Since the latest coach has taken over they have been pretty good every year. I do not see why this year would be any different.

Mays has a HELLUVA offense” NO MORE WING T”, but I cram to understand where the D will come from. Mays always have either defense or offense we just can not get them both in the same year. Homer is the #3 QB in the State of GA. #1 Marshall, #2 Mattox, #2a Causey. Causey shine on Mattox, in the first rd last yr on his field.

I dont know you guys, Causey has to be considered one of the top in the state at the
position after what he did to Whitewater driving almost the length of the field twice for scores and the outstanding preformance in the 1st rnd of the state out duking Mattox.
#1 Marshall, #2 Causey/Mattox what a great rematch Causey vs. Mattox rnd 2 STATE!!!

Hey HS Coach, you must be one of the coaches that Cook beat out to get the Kell job. Also, in the two years prior to his arrival Kell was 7-13 with no playoff appearances. Since his arrival, they are 14-6 with two playoff appearances in two seasons and he has won two coach of the year awards. The only thing predictable about Cook is playoff appearances as he has been there 3 of his 4 years as a head coach. How about you?
