One of Florida’s best wrestlers will join Georgia Tech’s football team.
Offensive guard Trey Braun of Tallahassee’s Leon High committed to Georgia Tech over South Florida, Illinois and Arkansas on Friday. He is the fourth early pledge for the team’s 2011 football recruiting class.
“He’s a bright kid, and really took time to evaluate all of his options,” Leon coach Bill Ragans said. “Trey took an (unofficial) visit up there and really liked it. He liked everything about Georgia Tech, especially the academic end of it.”
The 6-foot-5, 280-pound Braun called Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson with the news on Friday morning. Braun has a 3.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and both of his parents are West Point graduates.
“He’s the best lineman I’ve coached in high school,” said Ragans, a former defensive coordinator at Colquitt County. “He has great size, he is very athletic and agile from wrestling, he’s hard-working and does everything you ask of him.
“He has everything you look for, in my opinion. He has all the measurements and can play the game of football.”
Braun is also considered among Florida’s elite in wrestling. He was undefeated until the second round of the state tournament, finishing with a 29-1 mark in the heavyweight division.
Last week, Braun took a recruiting trip across the Southeast to visit Georgia Tech, UGA, Alabama and Auburn. Georgia Tech was the only one of the four schools that had extended a scholarship offer, but the others were seriously interested.
The big surprise was Florida State, which is only a tomahawk throw away from Leon High. Ragans is also a former FSU football player. However, Braun was still under evaluation from the Seminoles.
“I think FSU would’ve been a good choice, being a local team,” Ragans said. “When they hadn’t offered yet, and Trey had visited Georgia Tech, he liked what he saw. His parents will get to see him play every other year here, and the games in Atlanta aren’t too far away.”
Braun is the second offensive lineman of the week to pledge to Georgia Tech, following in the footsteps of Monroe-Albany’s Bryan Chamberlain (6-4, 280).

Let’s take a look at some of those “high profile” commitments/signees UGA’s had recently shall we UGAy fans…..
-Demetre Baker signed with UGA over powerhouse offers ECU, FIU, Indiana and Southern Miss. (Wow he was a highly regarded player wasn’t he!)
-Michael Bennett signed with UGA over Akron, Air Force, ECU, Central Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Western Kentucky (Wow another high profile recruit!)
-Marc Deas signed with UGA over offers from mighty Kentucky, UCF. (Wow!)
-Kenarious Gates signed with UGA over the bottom feeders of the SEC, Vandy and Mississippi State. (Another high profile signee!)
-Hutson Mason signed with UGA over a bunch of MAC schools with Cincy and UVA his only real offers. (Nice reach on signing a QB there UGA fans. lol)
-Alex Ogletree signed with UGA over NO d1A offers. !We all know why this kid was offered!)
-Lonnie Outlaw signed with UGA over something like Buffalo as his only other D1A offer. hahahahaha
With those great signees above, Urban and the rest of the SEC is really shaking at the thought of playing UGA in the next 4 years.
I beg CMR to start Hutson Mason at QB, the kid is 100% an over-hyped BUST! hahahaha
Go mighty criminal dawgs!

We(UF)….you have not followed college football very long , have you? Evaluation of a signing class is after 3 years, not before they step foot on campus. It is not all about the “here and now”. Give every school their just due and then comment. Trashing kids before they play their first game is not a good way to present your case. It shows a lack of understanding of the game and maturity on your part. Granted, in the last couple years UGA has under achieved with above avg. talent. That does not lie at the feet on the players but the coaches.

Paddy – I think “We own . . .” was only responding to an earlier post by a pound puppy criticizing Tech’s recruits based on who else had offered a scholarship to them.
Florida fan =: FSU has a limited number of scholarships and focused on skill positions this year. UGA, Bama, and Auburn “were seriously interested”. Snooze you lose. This guy looks like a real player. Check out the tape. He’s blowing people out of just about every play.

CPJ jumped at him because he fits the system perfectly. He can move and can clear the road. If he works hard, I think this kid is going to be a stud at Tech.

Techie…..guess I missed the point. Hard to read and remember all the info on these pages. But my point still stands. Judge a recruiting class after their 3rd season.
Thanks
