Former UGA and NFL running back Robert Edwards needed a little help from his friends.

Edwards is the first-year head football coach at Arlington Christian, a GISA school located in Fairburn. (Click for directions)

Champ Bailey, Hines Ward and Jon Stinchcomb (member of the reigning Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints) are among the former UGA and NFL standouts scheduled to participate in the celebrity basketball game at 7 p.m. Friday at Arlington’s gym. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, with the doors opening at 6. Other celebrity team members expected to play include D.J. Shockley, Boss Bailey, Teresa Edwards and Chamique Holdsclaw, among others.

Autographed jerseys will be raffled at halftime. The event is being held to raise money for Arlington’s football program.

“The football field needs repairing,” Edwards told the AJC. “It needs some new sod put in. It needs a dome in the middle so it doesn’t hold the water.”

Solid human being is Robert Edwards. Georgia needs more players like him today. Wishing him well as he leads young people in his football program.

Speaking as an American of color and a man, Thanks for making all of us look good. It’s a proud day to see a “brother” do well. Teach all kids, regardless of skin tone to become winners on the field, and more importantly in life!

Speaking as an American of color and a man. Why bring it up Hard Truth Soldier? A great man and teacher sees no color. Good luck to those in Fairburn. Nice town and good people.
