M.L. King will be without Florida-bound Mack Brown for next year, but new coach Michael Carson has plenty of talent left around (AJC file)

M.L. King has hired away Avondale’s Michael Carson as its new football coach.

Carson is a former assistant at M.L. King, and has been the head coach the last two years at Avondale.

Carson went 7-14 at Avondale, leading the Blue Devils to a 6-5 record last year, including the DeKalb County’s school first playoff appearance since 1989.

Carson will begin teaching at M.L. King in August, but will oversee spring practice for the Lions. At M.L. King, Carson replaced Corey Jarvis, who was hired by Duluth High.

CONGRATS MIKE from all of BTOWN. For those who don’t know Coach Carson is a BUFORD GRAD and member of the 1978 Championship team. Always good to see a BTOWN grad doing well.

Coach that some real lame actions. I understand that we didnt have alot of participation and commitment. but you cant just up and leave us. How you gone start some great and just leave. A coach suppose to go thru the rough times with the team and suppose to handle whatever comes our way. Than not even to let us know but to just up and leave. But its your loss even tho youre at MLK you will always be a Blue Devil.Much success to you and your team. Men stand up cowards run

nobody cares how much history the coach has at MLK….the only thing people want to know is how many wins and loses is he going to produce? Can you perform with the BIG boys? Looking at your record at AVONDALE….I really dont think so! For one thing…( you dont have patience ) How long will it take for the next school to lure you away from MLK?

Reading and writing is fundamental young men….. I can understand where a lot of you are coming from. It’s tough to deal with a coach leaving. It’s comparable to having your own father leave you. Coach Carson did an amazing job in the 2 years that he was at Avondale. To go from being a laughing stock to the playoffs is commendable. I’m sure there will be another coach that will come in and keep the spirit and drive that Coach Carson brought back to Avondale. It’s up to the students there to work hard and put Avondale on their back and carry it like nothing else is different. But in the meantime please get that education. Looking at the spelling and sentence structure on here is disturbing. They don’t take applications for jobs with misspelled words or sentences with no periods…..

Everyone that has posted, has their personal standpoint of the situation. Well my perspective of this is quite interesting because you all are not the only one’s thats losing something!!!! It may seem like your world is turned upside down but this is just an obstacle that we all have to face and move forward from. The only way to move on is to make it better!!! Plenty of yall won’t even be at Avondale next year so really everyone is moving on for the better. just try to play football and play your hardest knowing that Coach C was the one who got you to be the player that you are.

(chelsea): Avondale is a really good school and you all are not going to be talking about us. Coach carson you brought us a long way, but i feel like you were looking out for yourself and not for the success of the team
(will): Just for the record coach did do a good job, but its heartbreaking because i cant make music for a winning team anymore. It hurt me on the left side but everything happens for a reason!
(ke’era): Congrads to coach, but there isn’t an i in team. I respect you for doing whats right for you and your family but what about the Blue Devil Family?
(shaq): Man you was like a father to me in so many ways that i can even explain, but i remember the time when we went to camp and you was about to give up and we all shared tears over you and for you just to leave us in the time of heart ache its messed up but i hope you have a wonderful season coach. I love you coach.
(cory): Man Im Really Disappointed In You That You’re leaving. You have reallt turned this program around, you gave of us players false hopes during that Calhoun game you told us that you loved us and everything but wish you the best of luck!
(khadijah): Wow what can i say? i hope you have a winning season and i hope that next year will be a year to remember, but never forget the school you made a better place.
(gabby): Im going to be the the positive person out of the class. Coach Carson has been a father figure to everyone that has interacted with him. He’s a man of few words but a powerful man. We all love Coach Carson and we all want what’s best for him, we just dont want him to leave us and I think thats where the selfishness comes in. Coach carson is a positive influence to the Blue D

Regarding the comments made by some posters about Avondale and education; A couple of misspelled comments do not mean that a high school needs to get an education. You cannot compare a comment made on a website to a job application or schooling. This website in no way can affect my income or grades. So for you to say that we need an education based on these foolish comments is foolish itself.

P.S. I have an education from avondale and could attend any college in the U.S based on a ACADEMIC scholarship…

Congrats coach on your new position; you didn’t get what you asked from us and you made the right descion. A Coach is supposed to be respected by all his players, and by some of us not listening to you and doing what you asked we disrespected you. Wish you the best; won’t forget about everything you did.

A chance to be better man and have future; and you taught me how to be a man. Coach, Understand i appreaciate everything you have done for me and the team and I love you. Remember what you told lil joe, “Matt I’m already a blue devil and always will be”.

Oh Canada #56 …. sorry to break your spirit, but all those people who posted and commented about education are totally correct. From interacting with you, I understand that you have little respect for the United States. You don’t stand for the pledge and your answer for everything is basically that you are not from this country so you don’t have to play by our rules. If this is truly the case, then go back to Canada! For the rest of the players, before you send anything out that will be read by the masses of people, check your spelling and use the standard English that you were taught versus the “text messaging” verbage that you seem to love.
CONGRATULATIONS Coach Carson on your new position at MLK. You’ve done a great job at Avondale and I’m sure you will do the same for the young men at MLK.
