Hey, the 2010 high school basketball season is over (click on the brackets below for final results).
What are your thoughts on the 2010 season? Out of the five boys state champions, which team is the state’s best? Is it Milton? Or what about GAC? And which team is No. 1 out of all the girls champions?
Perhaps, most importantly, who is the state’s Mr. and Mrs. Basketball? Is it Wheeler’s Jelan Kendrick, the only Georgia player picked for the Parade All-America game? You may disagree, but I think not. My “lock” was Westlake’s Marcus Thornton, before he missed the state championship game with an ankle sprain from warmups. I like Fayette County’s Adam Smith, and GAC’s Malcolm Brogdon.
What about the No. 1 girl? Pick any of the NBA daughters.
Note: Stick to basketball talk. Personally insulting other commenters will not be tolerated. Thanks. - AJC Sports

Ric Patino and Calipari bounce around in college b-ball and win Atlanta just has enough talent where guys can hang around for a long time and if they have conections or options or can recruit well can bounce around from team to team. Good coach aaahhh maybe. Oportunist Yeesssss!!!

I really wish GHSA would incorporate a shot clock. I really hate how a team can literally sit on the ball for 2 mins or more to run the clock out

Oh the bitter Redan fans. Angie Hembree is one of the best girls coaches of all time. Winning 3 titles @ Collins Hill (for you haters out there-only one of those was with Maya Moore. Tracey Tipton gravy trained the other 2 @ Collins Hill) & one of many with Norcross.

Hey just thought I’d come on here to say if we weren’t forced to leave our section after our girls win tonight, we were planning on letting Milton know that we should of been the ones in that game (by cheering “you shouldn’t be here”). And by the the way Milton outplayed Westlake, we should of won the whole thing. Yeah, I’m a little bitter, but it’s the truth.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda… there seem to be a lot of people drinking the Haterade. And Michael, are you really questioning the intentional foul on Westlake when their 300 pounder raped the Nolte kid? Really?? Please tell me you’re talking about another intentional fould I missed while getting a beer from the fridge. Cause the one I saw was CLEARLY an intentional foul and Nolte almost got decapitated..

@ GREENWAVE: I agree, they do need a shot clock. Saw a team hold the ball in a couple of games tonight. Reminds me why college introduced it, after the king of holding the ball PRINCETON, did it all the time.
@ CRAZYMAN: Milton did have some luck this year, but a team needs a little luck. As far as Thornton, watch what you say, it’s not saying much for the other 5 guys who are 6′5″+ on the team or are you saying that Westlake is a one dimensional team. You win as a team. PS: I am not a Milton fan.
@jroc: Yeah I saw the kid bust his chops after the win. Looks like he bounced up and is ok. Thank god for that.
@gpb.: I asked earlier about the accusations of recruiting at Milton and mentioned to correct me if I was wrong, that these kids have been playing together since 8th grade. The only one that confirmed, was GPB, who said they have been playing together since 6th grade. Must have been in Alpharetta, I played ball with Julian Royals dad 10-15 years ago, so I know he’s not recruited.
Again congrats to all the winners………..asterisk or not!

Congrats to the Lady Blue Devils! You beat the best to become the best. Also, congrats to the Milton Eagles for their State Championship. We win with class and we lose with class.
* someone wanted an asterisk beside Milton’s name…how about the two teams and their coaches have not acted like the fans and showed mutual respect for each other, because they both played their butts off in two great games this year. And my guess is, if they meet again next season, we will see the same class and respect and the same type of hard fought game.
Go Blue Devils and Lady Blue Devils!!

JROC: Common man, talk about recruiting. What about those non-Albany players that was on some of those Westover teams. You know it. Willie Boston had some players from across the border from Florida. Stop all that ATL recruiting crap, when Boston was notorious for it. Who was the player from Florida that he adopted. I think he was like 6-11 and attended Mississippi State before he was shown the door because he couldn’t read or write. And we all know about the scholarly Mr. Dontonio Wingfield. Albany had its run in the 1990s, but that’s gone. JROC, step into the present.

I thought the officials in the Redan vs Norcross girls game were “inconsistent” with their calls in the 4th quarter. Never the less Norcross has a very talented young team and should be in the mix for years to come.

I can’t believe you just called him Dumtonino Wingfield! LOL!!! I miss those days. If you recognize my name, you know what school I’m coming from. I remember when Southside and Douglass ran basketball in the Atlanta area. But sadly, there was recruiting going on. But I’m not going to lie. Coach Dollar had his best years at Douglass.

Why do you suck up to Boyd so much Carvell? Lipscomb will have surpassed him in wins another 5-10 years and already has as many rings. Also, to just hand Milton the title next year is frivolous considering Wheeler and Centennial will reload with transfers (sorry to those who lose out) but they both will. Also It took a few shaky calls in the region semis against to get them to the region final, take that game away and Boyd has never beaten Lipscomb, even though Boyd’s Berkmar teams in ‘02 and ‘03 were waaaaaay more loaded than anything Wheeler had, but Lipscomb coached up what he had and beat them anyway. And Lipscomb usually follows a down year (ie losing in the 2nd round) with a great year. Just don’t be surprised if Wheeler and Milton meet if Wheeler pulls the upset just as they did against the vastly more talented teams of Berkmar (’02-’03), McEachern (twice in ‘03), South Gwinnett in ‘05, and were dang close to being 2-0 against your boys in North Fulton this year even though Wheeler was outnumbered 4-1 in high-major talent. Milton should absolutely be favored next year, but they didn’t make unscathed this year in state play and won’t next year.

Great job Columbia High girls and boys for making it to the finals. The girls against Carver should be a good one, this will be the fourth match up of the year with Columbia having a 2-1 lead. The Columbia boys should handle Lagrange with no problems, we are to big and we can go deep on the bench if we need to.

It has gotten bad that so much recruiting is going on now. The small private schools and their AAU and recruiting programs have killed any small community high schools chance of ever winning a state championship again. As for recruiting. The Dougherty County Schools had the most cut throat recruiting against each other in the early and late ’70s that I have seen. Sequoyah girls had two girls, seniors from Norcross one year when they won the state. Those girls went back to Norcross after the state championship and graduated at Norcross, GHSA has not shown any movement to stop this except in a less popular school or school system.

The GOOD, the BAD and the ugly:
Good: Mays’ boys making the finals
The Mays fan support
SWD defeating NWW
Miller Grove’s cheerleaders
The smallest player on Redan’s team
Bad: The way Miller Grove beat us
Their fans showing up at halftime
Mays’ sorry ass cheerleaders
The arrogance of #22 @ MG
#32 for MG was too big to be that soft
The final score….geez
Ugly: The vest that the MG coach wore
Having to watch NWW girls play knowing it should have been you
#44 from NWW trying to fight…classless
Again…still being mad @ Mays’ girls coach for being OUTcoached
The high food prices at the arena
The dude that sat next to me after he bathed in garlic!
Kendall not getting enough minutes

@ Jroc thank you my brother for spreading your wisdom to these people on here. People dont be upset with Jroc for speaking the truth. Hey if it wasnt for the the south ga schools (Westover,Albany,Dougherty,Mitchell-Baker,Randolph-Clay) than your school would not be as good because we the south set the bar years ago. I got a question for yall how many cities has 2 state champion in the same city Dougherty & Westover 2001. How many cities has the state championship decided by schools from the same city westover and Albany 1991 1992. Hey we just speak the truth thats all.
By the way the late great Coach Boston should be recognize as the greatest Coach in GA history.

Oh! by the way Dylan and the rest of you NW fans – what’s the deal with the McCurdy girl??????? she has a very bad attitude. The day before she and her mother were arguing with SWD fans and yesterday after the game she tried to fight the SWD player during the handshake to the point the Whitfield police had to walk her out. She was totally out of control and showed bad sportsmanship.

We just win and thats what you call a PROGRAM. But i must give him his props for at least congratulating us. everybody else there is just one more bandwagon to jump on with hopes that they can knock us off…BUZZ where you at? i got your seat ready! just let me know if you need a window or an aisle seat. i’d hate for you to be standing on the tracks when the train is coming through….so if you cant beat us Join us….let me see if i can get like some of these other fans on here….ANYONE from any other schools wanna join our crowd and help us beat those undefeated grangers. if so wear your orange and fill up the seats right behind our bench…LOL

@ EJ to answer your question about how many cities have 2 state championships in one year…….well between SWD (girls), Millergrove (boys), Columbia (Boys and Girls) thats 4 championship trophies within less that 15 miles from each other. Dekalb wins multiple championships every year. Sorry didnt mean to bust your bubble….ON TO THE NEXT ONE!!!
