MILTON COACH COULD MAKE HISTORY
Say whatever you want about Milton basketball coach David Boyd, but the guy wins. He’s a Georgia high school living legend.

If prospect-loaded Milton High wins it all this week, it will be the fourth decade that Boyd has led teams to state championships in basketball. He won at Campbell (1982), Tucker (1996), and Berkmar (2000-2001). He would become the first basketball coach to capture titles at four different Georgia schools.

Boyd’s team, after a narrow win over Norcross in the semifinals, are the favorites against Newton on Thursday.

EVERYTHING’S BIGGER IN TEXAS — EVEN THE BLOWOUTS
Yates High (Houston) coach Greg Wise has a team that’s beaten one foe 170-35 this season and that’s not the only 100-plus point game his Lions have posted. That can’t happen in Georgia, where there’s a basketball “Mercy Rule.”

Is it a team’s fault when they’re just THAT good? Should the Yates coach face disciplinary action for… winning big? Read all about it HERE, then discuss it.

Yeah, Boyd will gone down in the history books as a great recruiter…in high school. What a joke. The guy gets out coached all the time, just wins on talent. Lipscomb and Martin can coach circles around this guy.

SADLY, GHSA FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, AND BASEBALL ARE NOW ALL ABOUT WHO RECRUITS THE BEST….GET ALL THE BEST PLAYERS, AND SIT BACK AND WATCH THEM PERFORM….GHSA LOOKS THE OTHER WAY, THEIR EXCUSE IS IF THEY PREVENT SOMEONE FROM “TRANSFERRING”, THEY MIGHT GET SUED…..BUY SOME “SUING INSURANCE”, MAN UP, AND STOP THIS RECRUITING THAT IS RUNNING RAMPANT IN THE HIGH SCHOOLS OF GEORGIA….

It’s really ashamed that AJC can’t be bothered with giving Newton any credit whatsoever during this whole state tournament. These guys have played their hearts out and have beaten some very good teams to get here. They DESERVE some recognition!!! It’s not all about Milton and Westlake!!!

Mays may play slow but they still win it don’t matter how they play the only thing that matters is them winning the game. Mays defeating better teams than them win they won back to back state championships in both years in 04 and 05 so don’t count Mays out they are a team of destiny and they play with alot of heart Coach Mack will have them ready.

Folks, seriously stop typing your comments in all caps. It’s more annoying than you could imagine. You can make your points using regular capitalization rules just fine. It’s one thing to type “LET’S GO RAMS” in all caps as a cheer; totally something else to just scream at everyone on the board because you aren’t turning off the Caps Lock key.

Thanks for your cooperation in advance – AJC Sports

We will see I’m pulling for Mays cause I know Coach Mack will have them ready. Yes Miller Grove have a bigger team but that don’t matter like I said before in 04 when Mays won the championship their opponent was bigger and faster and we still won.

Understands the Game

March 11th, 2010
2:08 pm

Hands down Mays High School has had the best basketball program over the last decade. Coach Mack does not recruit and wins with what players come to him. Name one big time player that has made a significant impact at some other school and then transferred to Mays. You can’t name one because he coaches with integrity plus he can flat out coach. All of these people talking about Mays plays too slowly, they play slowly because Mack knows his personnel. When Mack coached his first two state championship teams in ‘04 and ‘05 he played more of an up tempo game. This year’s team is like the team he coached in ‘01 who were state runners-up where they played a slower style because they don’t have the personnel to go up and down the court and win. Before you make comments, make sure you understand the game. Mays and Miller Grove will be a good game and it will be a classic battle between two contrasting styles of play.

swatguy

Ok, Mays is not slow. Actually they are very fast and very quick. Youse confuse deliberate with slow.
Coach Mack teaches a deliberate pace which emphasizes high percentage shots and low turnovers. Even after shots players are in better positions for rebounds.
This is Chess not checkers.

Now I’m a fan of Sharman also, but in this game the elder will prevail and Mays will win.

Did anybody see #44 from NW Whitfield cursing at the SWD parents in the stands…..just country as hell! SWD fans were cheering for their girls as they played….every time they cheered – she said something ugly and they eventually asked her to stop being negative….boy she went to cussing harder than any sailor I know! Then her mama told the folks that they could take it to the parking lot and then her sister (with her baby on her hip) started woofing and cussing too! HEEEE-larious….they do not know that folks from the deck will gang fight and whoop your A## and then send you back to your country town laughing! I think she helped to add to the butt kicking that SWD is going to have to put on that tail tomorrow night….I hate that she did that – because most of the NW Whitfield fans are really nice folks who are just proud of the only bit of excitement that their town has to offer….I am sure that the two guys on the Whitfield County School Board that were sitting right in the midst of all of the action called her into the office this morning to discuss that behavior….How can you be that physically weak and think that you are going to fight some folks from the DEC….SMDH!!!! You are right, the winner is the preseason 2010-11 No. 1 with the runner-up probably No. 2. But the voters might go outside the box and have Rockdale No. 1. We see how that worked out.
Word to voters, stop looking just at records, but the make-up the team, schedule, coach and the on-floor productions. A lot of teams with those “pretty records” against that inferior competition will be tuning in to watch the game on TV tomorrow.

As a Newton Grad and somebody who attended tonights game. Milton is the Real Deal. They shot the lights out in the first half. They have a sophmore(#12) who hit 5 3’s in the first half and all were 3 foot behind the arc. Westlake better bring the old A game or they are going to get run out of the Gym tomorrow night. This Milton team starts No Seniors and I think they are as good as any of the Mighty Norcross or Wheeler teams of the past few years. You might be looking at National Champs next year!!

I won 2 state titles in GA in early 2000’s so I know what I am taking about. The show that Milton put on tonight was 2nd to none. If you were at the game you know what I am talking about. I played for Coach Boyd in High School, he never recruited anyone. Walker Texas Ranger you need to get you facts straight. The counties enforce rules and recruiting in public schools doesn’t happen. There are gray areas that are taken but nothing illegal. You sound like your team lost early. Funny how you mention Lipscomb. The Kinderick kid did not play in Cobb last season. Div 1 prospects like him dont move there senior year to get more minutes. Are they still playing no! Where did it get them. It doesn’t matter who is on your team you still have to play the game.

Wow what a number Milton did on Newton. Good season fro Newton but they never had a chance! Great showing by their fans.

Westlake girls gave Norcross everything they wanted in a physical battle.Norcross became a better team tonight and their showdown with Redan is going to be very very good. Redan struggled early and quite frankly didn’t look like the #6 team in the ESPN Fab 50 yet they found a way to win despite playing poorly on an off night. I can’t see them playing like that tomorrow but if they do Norcross will win. Still should be a good matchup.

Great effort from Westlake and they got a beat effort form Marcus Thornton with his 24pts and 13/14rebs. Will they beat Milton, I don’t know but I do know it will not be a 30 point blowout.

Get out the Gwinnett Center tomorrow guys, there is going to be some solid hoops played tomorrow. I know this is Football Country and all but the hoops in this state are great, stop sleeping on it.

I’ll be there, will you?

In every state tournament a team will have a test that you must overcome. It doesn’t matter how good you are or how good of a coach you are. Your team must overcome this obstacle to put yourself in position to take the state title. Tonight was our test that we overcame. Tomorrow will be another solid challenge against I think one of the better teams in the state to say the least. If you saw the Milton game tonight i understand what you are saying, you thinking we don’t have a chance and going to lose. But remember they shot 61 percent tonight from the field, its very seldom that happens two nights in a row. Plus our underrated guards and solid post match-up better than Newton. So the criticism is great for us, people have doubted us and rooted against us all year so we accept the challenge and look forward to proving everyone wrong!!!!!! Go Lions 30-2 #1 in the state #24 in the nation period!!!

Newton when you hang your banner in the gym for this season, it should read:

2009-10
Newton Rams
OVERRATED!
Region champions (weak region)
Final Four (big mistake)
30-2 (30 cupcakes)

The starting five at GAC is the best overall team in this state. Total package on offense, super in the transition game, they destroy teams that press, supurb discipline, and great on defense. Best point guard, super post man, great shooting forward and go to sleep on the other guard and forward and they will light you up for 15 to 20. This team can play with any team, any class in this state.

Here we go again man you still on that Albany headache medicine, Dougherty aint taught us nothing. How many titles have Dougherty won, once every blue moon is not a tradition, it’s a fluke. I’d rather you say Westover, at least I know their sucess in the early to mid 90’s, but Dougherty man please. Like I said before they weren’t even on the map that year, we overlooked them because of that. So if it’s a lesson learned that’s what we learned here at Columbia not to take our opponents lightly in the post-season. Dougherty showing us something….lol..man you’re funny, maybe you need to go get Jamie Roberts and company and dress them up in Westover colors. You’re going to need it

Although I do respect Mays high school, coach Mack and it’s phenomenal fan base; let’s keep it real and base this off of facts. Miller Grove has been battle tested more than any team in the state. What many don’t realize is the Wolverines have played one of the toughest schedules in the state and has done well against National Competition in tournaments in Charlotte, Kentucky, Ohio and Florida. The aformentioned reason is why they will live up to the moment to win the big game. It doesn’t matter what type of game or attack Mays will bring tonight, Miller Grove has seen it all. The key factor will be size and depth. MG can go 11-13 deep.
Food for thought: Mays high, named after my beloved fraternity brother, won the last game in an overtime thriller in 2007 (Region Playoffs), which knocked Miller Grove out of the Class AAAA State Playoffs. Since then, Miller Grove has lost one time at home (Lakeside 2009),three consecutive trips to the Final Four and a State Championship.

That is all!!

Mike Carvell, correct me if I am wrong, but 6-AAAA could have 4 defending champions next year in basketball SWD(3x), Redan(2x), Carver-Atl girls and either Miller Grove(2x) or Mays Boys. Hmmm!!!!!

To all of you South GA schools still thinking you’re better than the North, Groves out of Savannah was one of your best and got took care of by one of our average teams in Newton and do you really think you wanted to make that long drive to Gwinnett just to embarass yourselfs facing the likes of Milton, I think not.

GREAT YEAR WESTLAKE GIRLS AND BOYS. I see once again you had to endure more horrible refs calls. In the Girl’s game after Westlake defense brought them back to within 2 points the refs met in front of Westlake bench and from that time on the calls were loop sided in favor of Norcross. Norcross had 6 players on the court a clear official rule violation for a technical but No Call. The refs was called out on it by Westlake coach and still let it go A charge was called on #22 where the girl clearly reached for the ball and lost her balance and flopped on the ground, Westlake gets a Charging call. Norcross gets shots. Westlake #52 reached and fouled a Norcross girl who flopped on the floor while #52 clearly tried to hold her up, an intention foul called by a ref on the other side of the floor. Norcross gets more shots and the ball. Norcross didn’t have to beat the Westlake Great Defense, the refs consciously decided to beat it for them. I guess it’s good to have celebrity kid’s on your team. How could they ever explain to them for a Westlake Win? It was clear Westlake and Norcross were the best 2 teams at the tournament and either would have beat Redan. Norcross did, although 1 of their girls had to openly and knowingly by GHSA, lie and live with one another player so they could play together. What does that win really mean? What are we teaching our Kids? For grown up it’s called a CRIME. With prayer out of the school now we teach them to lie and cheat their way to fame? GOD IS WATCHING AND WILL HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE!!!
Westlake boys played their hearts out and left it all on the floor without the CLEARLY best player in the state, Marcus Thornton. Milton took advantage of that and beat us by 10.
Good game Milton, HORRIBLE JOB MILTON FANS. For you to scream out time and time and time again that “Westlake Need A White Boy” was ILLEGAL as per the statement read aloud by the GHSA prior to the game. Yet the GHSA officials in attendance, Miltons principle and administrators let it continue the entire game. Westlake Principle was there and personally refuse to allow his students to answer with any type of Racial comments. NOW THAT’S CLASS. Good Job Dr. White.Yes, your whiteboy has a little game when no one is in his face or put defense on him like Westlake did. If he played for Westlake, he would assuredly come off the bench.
Let me say that whatever kid comes to Westlake High, white, black, blue, yellow, or gray and wants to learn from the Greatest set of Christian, Honorable Coaches in the Eastern USA, and is respectful and willing to work hard, willing to be made prepared for college and beyond, come to Westlake. These coaches works extremely hard all year long to help all it’s players get into college somewhere, not just the starters. The Wheelchair winning coach is a proud former Westlake player. Many High schools around the state have former Westlake students and coaches coaching and teaching kids the correct way to play these games and how to be a great leader once your playing days are over. Westminster, South Atlanta, Banneker, Creekside, Langston Hughes are a few To all players, keep working hard, fine tune your craft, Keep God First.
