Who’s ready for weekend quarterfinals? Get the blog talk going. Hope the info above helps you if you’re going to any of this weekend’s games. A couple of the AJC.com Sports crew who live on the Southside of town asked me to remind everyone who’s headed down I-75 South to Fort Valley State or Ga. Southwestern that you might want to get a good, early start because once you hit Clayton and Henry County, the traffic gets really rough. That’s normal but with the big NASCAR race in town this weekend, they said the I-75 jams down there are worse than usual. If you know any good backroads, you might want to map them out but during a race weekend, they say even Hwy. 19/41 South is packed since it’s the other main race route to Atlanta Motor Speedway. Just a word of caution to basketball fans who don’t want to get stuck in all that traffic, that’s all. Good luck. Use street direction-finder phone apps or GPS to get around heavy traffic if you can.

Pleaase tell me how do you determine this? Bradwell Institute Number 6?

Class: AAAAA

No School W-L Last
Week
1 Redan(2-AAAAA) 29-0 1
2 Parkview(8-AAAAA) 28-1 2
3 North Cobb(5-AAAAA) 24-5 4
4 Mill Creek(7-AAAAA) 26-4 6
5 Norcross(7-AAAAA) 25-4 3
6 Bradwell Institute(3-AAAAA) 29-1 5
7 Campbell(6A-AAAAA) 24-6 8
8 McEachern(5-AAAAA) 24-6 7
9 Westlake(4-AAAAA) 23-3 9
10 Etowah(5-AAAAA) 23-7 10

Parkview is not even in it yet they are still ranked number 2? This a lot of Bull. Bradwell Institute should be at number 2 in the Polls…. Still North Georgia Bias.

There are several sleeper teams left, and the biggest sleeper in AAA is Dougherty who played in a tough region, and after watching Lagrange Wednesday night, I wouldn’t be surprised if they upset the Grangers. Lagrange is the MOST unimpressive undefeated team I’ve seen in a long time, and i’ve been watching Ga hi-school b-ball for over 25 years.
I think all of the games should be exciting and I think the only classification with a clear cut favorite is A, where it will be a monumental upset if someone beats Wilco. However here are my favorites for each class champion.

A-Wilkinson Co. (probably the deepest team in the state, would love 2 see them play some AAAAA teams)

AA- GAC- (however, Thomasville is really talented and expolosive)

AAA- Columbia (the winner of Westover-S ATl could give them some problems in semis)

AAAA- Richmond Academy

AAAAA- Milton.

But of course this is just IMHO, that’s why they play the games. so good luck, and should be exciting

Al Beeski–youre right…they are called opinions for a reason lol….yeah LaGrange may not have the flashy Div 1 prospects up and down the roster, may not be the flashiest, high flying, highest scoring slam dunking team left in the playoffs. BUT we are still in the playoffs for a reason…If you werent impressed by LaGrange, then thats not saying much for your Regular season champs Monroe, who we sent to play baseball and softball a few nights ago! Right now its all about getting it done, and that is all that counts in the playoffs

Groves is dominating the competition this year. First region championship since ‘84-85 season. They are one of the top 5 teams in the state hands down. Everyone hyped up Wheeler like they were unstoppable, now they are sitting at home looking fom the outside on in.

Can you Groves people stop claiming how great your are. The only team you played in the top 10 this year is Meadowcreek and you got stomped at home by them. You can beat Newton, but they haven’t played anyone either. You will get destroyed by Milton.

GrovesMan- Milton has to get by Norcross first. Now I’m not totally sold on Norcross and I think Milton will win but they are in for a battle. Norcross is having trouble finishing games vs Centennial and Meadowcreek and that is not gonna fly against Milton.

Groves is solid ballclub and they have the height in the post that is the anchor of their offense. INSIDE-OUT the way it’s suppose to be played. Newton will give them all they want.Newton showed me something in keeping :the high-scoring act of Lowndes under 60pts with an OT. Groves and Newton will be pretty good. Dont sleep on Stephenson either, Westlake better not. I don’t think many ppl were expecting the Jags to be this far.
Will be interesting to see how Hillgrove comes out after beating Rockdale, which was a suprise but wasn’t. Hillgrove has shown they have been a better team without Auburn signee Heath Houston with Dominic Early, Mike Lawrence and Stefan Julian stepping up. Hillgrove and Mays will be very very interesting, especially in the first 5 minutes. Don’t sleep on NClayton and Miller Grove is too tough for Litha Springs, but I thought Hiram would get Lithia so…what do I know. Gonna be some good hoops this weekend.

Wilcox County is a sleeper team. I’ve actually only seen this crew when they were in middle school, but they were far and away the best boys’ middle school team I’ve ever seen.

Game of the weekend is between the ECI and Taylor County girls. One combined loss. Upstart vs. tradition. Winner gets Wesleyan.

@ Al Beeski and Wendy, THS boys have a real good shot at winning the tournament this year. Glad to see they are being noticed. And don’t count out the girls. This team has the make and feel of the the Lakesha Springle led championship team in ‘96-’97; very underated and flying under the radar. SIC ‘EM DAWGS!!!!!

Wendy, not in a cold day, against GAC. Your forget the players do play, but the COACH pulls the triger… Eddie Martin is a step above the rest. Thomasville is awesome to watch, they do have alot of talent, but I believe Martin will take GAC to the Championship.

I’m from savannah, and not being bias GROVES HIGH BASKETBALL was the best kept secret in GEORGIA. We will not be intimidated by no one but on the other hand we respect our opponents and want take anyone for granted. We have solid back court, a helluva bigman in the middle a real power forward and one of the smoothest small forward in GEORGIA. I am so tired of hearing about that 15 point loss to Meadowcreek. that was the second game of the season and two of Groves key players didn’t even play plus the big man got ejected in the second quarter. And for the game that was scheduled @ Meadowcreek the coaches of Meadowcreek canceled because they said that they had to many games on the schedule. When we all know that they knew Groves are hot and they didn’t want to see them. Groves had a chance to beat Lovejoy by 40 but they cleared the bench.

Miller Grove just wore Lithia Springs down. Too much depth, too much talent. Miller Grove lost all those seniors (7) last year, and has to be the favorite to win it all again. Unless a team (like Banneker did) get very physical with them.
