Hey – Tonight the AJC is scheduled to cover Mays vs. Chamblee (boys) and we’re checking out the Campbell vs. McEachern girls and boys games. Look for those stories on AJC.com later. Keep talking about those teams who will pull off the BIG upsets in second-round play. I love reading your thoughts on who’s going to surprise us all. Thanks.

The Campbell/McEachern game will be LIVE on http://www.georgiaprepsports.com tonight for those who will be unable to make it out there. I’m taking Campbell and that to me isn’t an upset.

ted- I saw Milton destroy McEachern and saw Campbell worry Milton twice, and that was when Milton was getting its mojo back at the end of the season. I take Campbell in this one. They (you?)have have a nice poor man’s point guard and gritty 2,3 and 4 positions. Their size prevents them from seriously threatening Milton, but they are good. Good luck Campbell and 6AAAAA.

Can Meadowcreek beat Norcross?

Creek

No, Creek cannot beat Norcross. They just aren’t on that level. Game should be exciting, but Norcross has too many playmakers in the end.

hoping Norcross doesnt lose. that deprive me (and others) of some “good-natured” Devil ribbing when Norcross meets reality in Carrollton. Reality, thy real name is Julian Dai Jon Shannon Evan. And the order of thy names changes unpredictably on any given night.

Nilo Silvan/Creek

Yes Meadowcreek CAN beat Norcross. Meadowcreek goes 12 deep on the bench and has a very balanced attack. The matchup to watch will be E.Victor Nickerson of Norcross and Lavon Hooks of Meadowcreek. Meadowcreek is going to get out and run and can match Jeremy Lamb and Marty Johnson in the back court with John Ruff and Aaron Robinson. Norcross is a talented team but yet I’ve seen stretches this season where solid teams can expose and best them, Meadowcreek is a solid team. The game can go either way by no more than 5-7 points.

The three sophmores from Campbell I think do trump Mr. Golden. But I am anxious to see the supporting cast he has. They cant be THAT ineffective with the record they have posted. And the Lady Spartans vs. The Lady Indians should be the top girls matchup of round 2…great night of basketball, cant wait! And will that coverage be a webcast streaming the game or just a gamecast with updates of what is happening?

“poor man’s point guard”

Uncle Miltie…….I love the terminology. I assume that refers to a converted #2 guard. I’ll have to borrow that, giving you naming rights of course.

Campbells Matt Cotton is no converted 2 guard, he is about 5′9 but quick as lightning and has shown a little bit of a shottong stroke as of late. As a sophmore this year he set the record for most freethrows made in a game in the state of GA. He does show his youth at times though, dropping his head when things start to go down but all in all the kid has a bright future! Fearless.

Optimistic – I agree. He is no converted 2 guard. Is he really 5′9″ though. very quick and he did have a good shooting night against Milton. Good looking kid. Thats what I meant by poor man’s point guard. He doesn’t get the hype that White and Harrow get (maybe that’s fair – he’s just a soph) He may be the priemere pt guard next year in region 6 – aside from Shannon Scott of course. He will mature and get mentally tougher after this years region 6 battles.

ted, wheeler will not lose before the semis. Coach will not let them have a letdown. We will see wheeler v. Milton/Norcross in final (unless McEachern beats Norcross tonite).

Its ok Milton fan, I knew what you meant, I was just clearing that up for anyone who hasn’t seen him before. And he may be 5′9..with shoes.lol…but yes I agree he will be makeing some noise in the coming years, though it wont be region6 with the new allignments next year. People need to remember that name as well as Jack Shanks(6′5 sophmore wing, great shot blocker and finisher around the rim) and Justin Seymour(6′3 sophmore shooting guard who is pure off the dribble and can slash with the best of them; also is Richard Seymours nephew). All 3 of these sophmores have played together through middle school up in the Campbell feeder program and the chemistry shows. I don’t knock the recruiting bid too much because i appreciate good basketball, but seeing this Campbell team, who almost through out the entire roster have come up through the feeder program. Seniors Justin Haffad, Jamel Turner, and Q Adams all have been Smyrna natives. Theyre fun to watch and I hope Coach James Gwyn can keep this machine running!

Country Boy, Stephenson has a mediocre basketball team. You will have to beat someone in the top 10. Which if you beat Stephenson and then WESTLAKE. Then you might be consider for AJC TOP 10.

As a Wheeler fan I’m more worried about tonight’s game against Central Gwinnett than the possible qtr.- matchup with Campbell/ McEachern. I haven’t seen Central Gwinnett and we have no common opponents whereas with Campbell and McEachern, I know it takes Wheeler playing bad for them to beat us.

Johnson over Westlake in the shocker of the century….I know Westlake destroyed them last year, but Groves easily dispatched Lovejoy so its time for Johnson to follow suit.

Optimistic

March 3rd, 2010

But Campbell beat wheeler once already….and the other game of the season vs. Wheeler it actually took Campbell not haveing their point guard for Wheeler to beat US be 6…..Please sir, don’t sleep on the Spartans, or the Indians for that matter. Your wildcats are good and could beat everyone but it just seems like this year, maybe due to personel, you are set up to fail…IMO

True Blue, From what I understand beating Westlake would be a monumental feat for almost anyone. However I asked about entering the top 10. We were region champs and have lost only 4 games We were also State Champs in ‘96 , played for the state championship in ‘04 and went to the final 4 in ‘07. This may not be the resume’ of a nationwide powerhouse but it is worthy of respect…. which is not given by the Atlanta media so called experts.

i agree W/E, i know nothing of gwinnett, which is worrisome, they have a nice record and many of the wins came handily, which could be a combination of several things, regardless in their home gym i’m sure they will play hard

Lets Go Banneker Trojans….We should have knocked off Mays for the Region Champ after we upset Fayette Co. If we when tonight, the road to the finals should be fairly ease. Guess time will tell…Lets Go Trojans….

Central Gwinnet Offense revolves around a 6:4 sophomore named Adams who is a Division I category athelete. They don’t seem to rebound well. They haven’t played against anyone except MeadowCreek who Walton beat by 19 points. They split against Meadowcreek. If Wheller plays like they can play I don’t see CG being a problem Wheeler by 12.

Optimistic- you”re very correct that Campbell has given Wheeler fits all year, but Lipscomb usually finds someway to make them play better each time they see a team again. That said, Campbell is the 2nd team I’m pulling for in this year’s tourney- except of course if Wheeler and Campbell meet. Wheeler has the players to repeat as evidenced by their split with Milton this season in two very good games. I’m glad Campbell and Wheeler get moved into new regions next year because the Sophomore Trio is about as good a 3 as you’ll find in ga already and they have two more years, but I just want to say that Justin Haffad’s play and leadership this year can’t be understated, and it shocks me that he hasn’t pulled more recruiting attention. Good Luck with the GoldenChild tonight.

What, W/E? Milton is not the 2nd team you’re pulling for??? HaHa. I actually agree though. I took a liking to Campbell for their grit this year. And yes, the best crop of sophs since…well…last years Milton squad (3 sophs and 1 Fresh – all major D-1). Actually don’t they have a fresh starting this year, Optimistic?
