Carvell, finally! Welcome to the party.

Let’s just send the 5A, and 4A trophies to both Region 6’s, and let them have another tourney to decide the champs amongst themselves. I don’t see anyone else who can wrestle the hardware from the teams in those regions

Note to AAAAA: Milton has swagga back. Sorry, I just deliver the news. Centenniel reg season loss woke them up and the Wheeler mystique is now broken. Julian Royal is playing like the dominant 4 man that he can be. no one is choreographing (can score, rebound and defend too) at point like Shannon Scott (Charlie’s son). Dai Jon Parker is, well, you just have to see him – I don’t have words. Wild card sophomore Evan Nolte at 3 is healthy and stealthy (double doubles are nothing to him), a very steady 2 guard (#10, sorry his name escapes me) who can defend and doesn’t score much but scores timely to complement the 4 stars. They also have two very good 6th and 7th man substitutions and a 3rd who is 6′9″ and adequate. All cylinders are now firing in unison now. And I have never seen a collection cylinders in an engine like this.

Another note – to all non-region 6 regions in AAAAA: If Milton gets knocked out of the tournsment, you still have to deal with Wheeler and Centenniel (Don’t think Campbell is quite the same caliber, but don’t count them out – ask wheeler and centenniel from reg season). Sorry, just delivering the news again, not deciding what it is.
Good luck to all (esp. Milton)

Dr. Hoop…do you remember 2005-2006 championship. In the semis Wheeler got upset by Beach and Norcross won the championship by beating Beach. In 2007-2008 Wheeler had the best team on paper but Norcross beat them for the championship.

The best teams don’t always win the championships.

The suprise will be if Norcross makes it out of its bracket. Welcome to 6AAAAA basketball. You need to get by Centennial and Milton. If you get through that then you will find Wheeler waiting for you. My Final is Milton – Wheeler, Wheeler’s last shot counts this time for the win.

Not a bad prediction Hoop. Except for the end. Wheeler does not beat this team again until after the 2010-2011 season. BTW, I was at the Milton-Wheeler game and saw the video right afterwards. His toenail was not over the line, it was 3 inches over the INSIDE of the line. just to set the record straight for all those that have been hearing cries of injustice from wheeler players, coaches and fans.

Hoops Fan

Milton has the best players but Wheeler has the coach and the best player. I always choose the best coach with the best player when I fill out my brackets. Norcross is good but I don’t believe they have faced the an onslaught like the 6AAAAA teams which may have left them unprepared to bring it every night.

It is too bad they don’t have a tournament that pits the best teams in Georgia against each other so we can settle that argument. GACS has a pretty good resume of wins and I would love to see them play in the big boy’s tournament.

OK, Hoops, you were a little more diplomatic than me. It would indeed be fun to see a showdown between #1 and #2 in state after the state tournament and if those two teams arent in the same classification (in which case we would have already seen them. Still don’t think they would beat Milton or Wheeler and probably not Centenniel. But, I have not seen GACS. Will try tocatch them at some point at state.

Hillgrove v. Lakeside (Dk)
Hiram v. Marist

Wheeler wins championships when its an underdog, and usually gets upset when it enters the tourney as the favorite. I’d say the brackets look good for Wheeler to make another deep run.

W/E

February 24th, 2010
2:46 pm

Yeah if Wheeler gets to the qtrs, why do we have to go down to West Ga. to likely play Campbell/ McEachern- I mean I think the state should let us play at a neutral site within the county. It would be far more cost effective and the fanbases wouldn’t have to drive the 4-5 hr. round-trip. Anyway, as a Wheeler fan, my complaint wasn’t with the called 2 at the end of the game but the bogus tech given to Lipscomb in the 4th. That call was the real embarassment in the game for the officials. If Wheeler gets to Milton Wheeler wins, but I say if they get to the final bcause Peachtree Ridge and C. Gwinnett (1st and likely 2nd round opponents) aren’t chump teams and if Wheeler takes them lightly they will get beat. I feel with Campbell or McEachern in the qtrs. that Wheeler would beat either but both would make for close games. Westlake scares me with their size, but it won’t matter unless their guard play gets a lot better.

Why does South Atlanta and Columbia continue to be on the same side of the bracket ? Makes no sense. Last year it was clear they were the two best teams however they played in the semifinal instead of the final. Please stop making a way for these inferior teams to play in the finals.

Notes:

- This is first state tournament appearance for Central’s (Macon) girls. The school opened in 1970. Central is considered more or less the direct predecessor to Lanier High, which was all boys. Lanier’s female “companion” if you may, was Miller High. Miller did not play basketball, much less go to state. By this twisted logic … well, I’m not sure what to make of it.

- Dodge girls haven’t missed a state tournament since 1991. That may be the longest current streak in the state. In fact, no Dodge senior class has missed out on a tournament since the class of 1961. Their first appearance was in ‘62.

- First appearance for Lakeside (Evans) girls. School opened in 1988.

- First appearance for Benedictine boys since 1977.

- First appearance for Jenkins boys since 1981.

GHSA is driving me crazy with little mistakes on the bracket. Baldwin, Lowndes, Newton, and Spalding do not use ‘County’ as part of their school names.

Hard to Figure: I look forwrd to seeing Groves from Savannah. We don’t get a chance to find out much about cross-town teams, much less across the state. Good luck.
BBall Fan: you better believe Centenniel pt guard is good. They play well as a team and are well-coached. It is a shame those two teams meet so early in the brackets. It is a function of the strong region 6, though. One of the teams had to draw a 4 seed. Centenniel has played especially well against Milton this year. Milton barely won at their place and Centenniel embarrassed us at home.
W/E: I agree abouit the tech called on Lipscomb. Boyd had that called on him against Centenniel recently. But the refereeing was the worst I have seen this year – for both sides. there was a blatant defensive goal tending not called on Wheeler that blunted some Milton momentum. Also a couple of horrible calls/no-calls under the basket for both. Dai Jon was jobbed out of the game. he NEVER fouls out. Oh well. there’ll be more poorly called games. it works out over a lifetime. Wheeler has a great team. I hope it comes back to Wheeler/Milton in finals. That’ll be the final word…for this year.

BBal Fan we welcome playing Centennial in the first round game. Centennial who has lost 8 games and is probably beat up from playing all of those tuff region 6 teams might not be ready to face Norcross at home. Norcross who is on a 22 game winning streak (which ranks them 6th in the county’s history) and is playing the best they have all year will bring an enormous amount of confidence to this game. Remember Norcross face Milton earlier this yr and even before they had gotten use to playing together, on a neutral court they only lost by 4 points. And Norcross has not lost a home game in over 7 years. So we look forward to the game with Centennial because it will tell us where we are in relationship to the top echelon teams. “Bring them on.”

Milton vs norcross was a great game the first time and it will be agian but im milton cause they are the most talented team in this tourney (4 yes count them 4 high D1 players) I see wheeler vs milton agian in what I will call the game of the century. its so close I cant even pick a winner yet….

We have learned to be humble and thankful from our head coach and deacon Coach Darron Rogers Sr. We say good luck to all the teams who made it, but rest assure we are not overlooking no matchups. To Eagle 1 i always send a special good luck to you guys becasue your standup fans and at least kno what your talking about when it comes to high school basketball. To all of the north Fulton schools who assume no one can match your region and have no chance against your powerhouses just kno we are as hungry as ever to get back to the final four. we are definetly looking forward to a Wheeler matchup, by the way its a travesty your best player was handcuffed after a game is he still playing in the tournament. Carvell, GHSA should implement tournament seeding reform. There is no way all of the good (state ranked) teams should be in the same quarter. I think they should seed the teams like the NCAA tournament instead of just pitting one region against another. If travel is an issue, then play all the games at neutral sites. Also, the regions should take a close look at their rules. If I had influence, I would guarantee the regular season champ no worse than the #2 seed for the region going into the state tournament. Under my scheme, Centennial would either be a #2 seed or in another draw instead of playing Norcross in the first round. The current system gives us good early round games but the great teams are sometimes lumped together. The tournament should gradually get harder in each round instead of being like a roller coaster. What do you think?

truth4westlake-

Jelan was handcuffed for about 10 seconds, but the incident didn’t go down like the papers reported. How do I know? Well 1. I was actually at the game unlike the ajc or mdj 2. A good friend of mine was in the middle of the whole incident. Jelan did charge after the ref but Lipscomb was quick to restrain him. A cop who had previous history with Jelan came up and removed Jelan from Lipscomb and tried to handcuff Jelan- only the Campbell officials and came and basically told the cop that he was out of line because at that point they were just trying to get all the Wheeler and Milton players in their respective locker rooms and at this point the officials were long gone (with their armed escorts of course) and Jelan and Lipscomb were on their way to the Wheeler locker room when the cop acted out. And despite what the papers have tried to hint at Jelan never touched the official. The reporting on the whole incident and game was pathetic primarily because none of the papers were at the game so how in god’s name did they know what happened. They made assumptions and you know what they say when you assume- it makes an as* out of u and me. I’m still waiting for a write-up of how awful the refs were in that game. And they were terrible both ways, but Wheeler was dealt the most blows by officials in the 4th- including the inexplicable tech on lipscomb mid-4th. The high school basketball coverage in this state is so pathetic. Try actually going to some games guys. It will give you more legitimacy.

I consider Westlake the biggest obstacle for Wheeler because of the size Westlake can throw out there. If Wheeler and Milton meet again Wheeler will win because we’re a point away from being 2-0 against them and we played a terrible game in that region semi-final. I was actually surprised Wheeler sent that game to OT considering Jelan and Phil were having their worst respective games in the last month (Phil was pressing because Isiah Thomas was in the building). If Phil and Jelan can pick up where they left off before that region semifinal then Wheeler will be the toughest out in the state tourney.

How can you say Wheeler / Milton would be the GAME of the Century? How do you people not realize that this is one of the WEAKER teams Wheeler has had in the past 10 years?

They start a 6′5 Michelin man that can’t make it up and down the floor and then supplement that with two midgets on the perimeter.

They rely entirely on dribble penetration and three-pointers. They will struggle with Peacthree Ridge and then fall to Central Gwinnett in the 2nd round.

I was merely referring to the sports facilities at Chamblee. The U.S. skating team practices there because the floor is slicker than actual ice. Both, NW Whitefield and Sequoyah are used to nice gyms with floors so spotless, you could eat off them. That’s the “culture shock” I was talking about

BTW – Chamblee is 58% AA, and 23% Cauc’

Chamblee is not ghetto

February 25th, 2010

Dr. Hoop,

I know what the racial divide is up there thats why im asking why are you calling the place ghetto. ghetto is a term associated with poor black people so what does the gloss on the floor have to do with the school being ghetto or a culture shock…your original statement said nothing about the bad facilities and im sure anyone who read it did not think you were talking about the facilities…there are many schools deeper in the inner city that have floors that are glossed extremely well and are nice looking schools so what do you call them? lets be for real you went wayyy too far and its no way to clean that one up buddy. I’ve also seen many of games in more affluent areas where the facilities were horrible…Does that make them Ghetto also?

In the wonderful words of Ed Lover “C’mon SON!”…”you ought to be kicked off the face of the earth for some b.s. like that” and i dont mean to sound so Ghetto with it.

In defense of Truth4Westlake, Jelan Kendrick was suspended and removed from the Westlake team on January 26th, 2009 (after previous other infractions). This was over 6 ½ weeks before Westlake’s State semi final game and before the region tournament. There was no ankle injury. The antics will continue unless the community stops covering for this kid. It has to stop or he will be lost.

Michelin man? if you mean the 6′8 240 stud sophomore that is Chuck Mitchell then you clearly have not seen this team recently. Say what you want about him, but the last 6 weeks Jelan has played great ball and been an excellent teammate. As for a midget lineup- 5′10 Phil Taylor, 6′1 Karl Cochran, 6′4 Joey Jerome, 6′6 Jelan Kendrick, and a 6′8 Chuck Mitchell- all 5 are D1 signees or have offers BTW. Last I checked that’s a pretty good lineup size-wise for a high school team. And as for your dis on Chuck- ask Julian Royal who outrebounded him and blocked his dunk attempt straight-up on Saturday night. Wheeler also brings 2 solid bench players with the 6′4 Derek Frye and 6′1 sharpshooter KK Simmons. The rest of te bench ain’t too shabby either but Doug likes his 7-man rotation.

I would think a “GHSA Basketball Expert” would have mentioned somewhere that the Number one team in Girls AA, the Vidalia Indians was undefeated. I know you don’t get out of the Atlanta Area much, but c’mon 27-0 heading into the tournament and not even a mention? I’m not sure how deep they can go, because of their depth or lack thereof, but to finish the regular season and the Region Tournament and still be undefeated is an accomplishment and should have been recognized. Let’s remember they beat #3 Laney twice, ranked Dodge County twice and 5A Lovejoy on their way to 27-0.

Seeding would be impossible.

Unlike the NCAA, there isn’t enough information disseminated across the state about various teams. There isn’t enough time to watch video and it’s also difficult to rank schedule strength.

I understand it’s difficult to do because of staff cuts and a different focus to the coverage because of the changes in distribution, but like a previous poster mentioned, the Vidalia girls are undefeated and haven’t been mentioned. Vidalia’s in a tough region with annual stalwarts in Dodge County and Laney. Vidalia is in a relative no man’s land where they are just out of range for several daily papers and thus haven’t been hyped very much.

The AJC has a video posted from a basketball brawl in South Carolina, but never mentioned that a similar incident took place just last week during region semifinals when Thomasville players and a Berrien player took exception to one another and were ejected.

Not the AJC’s fault that it can’t feasibly cover the state, but I don’t think we can suggest seeding at this point because the state is currently very unfamiliar with itself.

Trivia: The GHSA actually has used a seeding system. Somewhat, anyway. In the 1950s, Classes B and C didn’t use regions during cage season, but were divided along congressional districts. 12 districts and a 16-team bracket meant that the league voted in additional teams that had not qualified for state.

GHSA needs to re think their state tournament objectives and approach. If the objective is to determine the best boys and girls teams then they should re think their process approach for determining that.

Norcross boys and girls teams have earned the right to be ranked from no.2 to no.5 in the state all year. The girls who have even beaten Mill Creek no. 3 will have to play Parkview undefeated and ranked no.1 in the second round if they beat Roswell. The boys who will play Centennial in the first round would have to play the no. 1 team in the state Milton if they are fortunate to earn the right by beating two top ten teams first.

I know distance is an issue but these players and coaches work to hard not to have a fair and equitable chance to reach their basketball goals and win a championship. Now that you have us traveling to West Ga in the third round we could just as well travel to Macon in the first and on second rounds so that pairings would be more equitable. Then no 1 could play no. 32 and no. 2 could play no. 31 and so on.

There’s no doubt that in AAA, the South regions are the toughest considering South Atl falls in Region 4. I believe there are 6 legitimate title contenders for the AAA crown. Monroe, Lagrange, Liberty Co., Westover, and South Atlanta all possess the necessary tools to win the State, while only Columbia passes the eye test IMHO to win from the North regions. That being said, Monroe (terrible guard play), Lagrange (weak schedule), and South Atlanta (too much turmoil @ wrong time) won’t make to Macon and after looking at the brackets my Final Four predictions are Westover, Liberty Co., Columbia, and Carrollton.

No disrespect intended, but seeding for the state tournament at high school level will never happen. The theory is good, but there is not enough information on the teams nor enough people who are qualified to do the seeding as the NCAA selection committee does. Very few people watch teams from across the entire state during the regular season. I just don’t think it is feasible.

Everybody played well. “Big Tony Jacobs” put on a show in the 1st half with 10 points in 1st period (about 12 points total) and great defense & rebounding. Marcus Thornton had early foul trouble but finished with a quiet 25 points, 10 rebounds & 5 blocked shots. Newberry, Johnson, Ali, they all played well. Norcross didn’t beat Centennial, they beat themselves at the foul line. The Georgia High School Association is under the direction of IDIOTS!!

They have teams traveling all across the state for the first two rounds playing single games because they are to CHEAP to rent facilities that are big enough to host an area tournament. Ther can be no double-headers. They must be approved by the GHSA! Clinch County girls are traveling 215 miles one way to Washington-Wilkes in the opening round. I bet that will be a capacity crowd…maybe the capacity of a school bus. And there are more games just like that.

Wheeler should win if they play good and focused, but that’s not a guarantee with Wheeler. Milton Norcross will be a good game, but I’d take Milton by 7 or so. Devil Nation, Milton was never in trouble. led by 10 or more from end of 1sr qtr. They do tend to play down and nor blow out teams. Don’t get me wrong, Collins Hill played a very good game. Their A game, but cream rises to the top. Lots of cream at Milton. CH was VERY well coached. They stymied Milton racehorse offense in 1st half with a frustrating zone. Shannon Scott and Dai Jon Parker couldn’t penetrate or get Royal the ball down low. If not for Nolte (17 at half – 25 for game), Would have been a tight game going into 2nd half. Very nice game CH.
Hope to see you somewhere in west ga, devil.

Hey Devil, well said. they both looked sluggish. But as you said the final score showed Norcross won by 2 at home, so they were the better team. But looking at all your post, you seem to be the one comparing that Norcross beat so and so by this much and Milton only beat them by that much. But at the end they were the better team tonight whether they won by 2 as you just did or 20. Same goes for Miltons 4 point win over Norcross, they were the better team…..so lets truly stop comparing, the team with more points win. This is playoff time, it’s a whole new season.

W/E: I dont think you have to worry about your boys overlooking C Gwinnett. Pretty sure they want to see us in finals and know they can’t sleepwalk through early rounds. They have a killer instinct and will prob blow them out like tonight. You are right, Milton, unlike Wheeler, tends to play down and up to opponents (except the bad loss to Cent at home). Hope we get the Milton/Wheeler rubber match in the Arena. Good luck till then.

Milton fan: Marietta finished the season at 11-18 and sort of backed into state. They’ve got a super talented 6′7″ soph that is significantly underutilized by their approach (wouldn’t be suprised to see him with you guys or at Holt Road next year). Got a real big man at 6′11″ around 260ish, who usually underperforms. Not much else to talk about. You shouldn’t have much trouble with them.

Foxdog……… You’re being way too nice in describing the GHSA. They are living in the 19th century. Every other state including Tenn, Ohio,SC, and Ky all have better formats for a state tourney. The way the first 2 rounds are played with zero crowds except family at many, is nothing but a first class joke.

If it wasn’t for Gwinnett Arena and the Macon complex, even as old as it is, the whole tournament would be a national first class joke. I love basketball and have lived in 5 states and all are so far ahead of Ga it’s pathetic. My rant for the night, because only the oblong ball counts in this state. Kind of a shame.

I love Milton Fan and he brings a lot to these forums but I’m not sure what game he was watching. Milton should have won this game by 25+ but they didn’t play like they wanted it, which is pretty sad playing at home in the first round of the playoffs. Their zone offense was pathetic with nobody looking to penetrate the zone at all…it was weak pass to one side back to the top of the key with a weak pass to the other side. Nolte definitely bailed them out in the first half. Also have to disagree with CH being well coached…it could have been a close game until Milton made a good decision to switch to a 1-3-1 which CH had no clue how to attack. Milton’s defense played well but if they can’t play better against a zone, which they’ll surely see again, they’re in trouble.

You can sleep on Groves of Savannah if you want to…if so, be prepared to loose. They have two 6′9″ inch starters that can match up with anyone in the state. They are the fastest team in the state, for they have yet to find ANYONE TO STOP THE FAST BREAK. The guard play can’t be stopped and it has been noted that they have the fastest guard in the state. If your team can’t stop them from running, stay home, you’re going to loose. Ask MLK. They got ran over last night in Savannah. Meadowcreek got a luck win earlier in the season. They could NOT beat them a second time. A former raider fom Redan says so.

Doyle Hargraves

Here’s how it’ll go down in Carrolton:
Julian will dominate McDonald and Nickerson(outscore them combined around 26-10).
Nolte will bust the zone up.
Dai-Jon will shut Lamb down(14 points or less)
Shannon…well there’s just nobody on Norcross to stop him.
There will be matchup problems all over the floor for Norcross and no officiating to bail them out. Milton might go the foul line 15-20 times.

Norcross’s squeaker and the blowout of PTR showed us all we needed to know about 7AAAAA last night.

Realist: You are right about Milton’s weak zone offense. I guess my point was the CH coach made the right coaching decision to deploy the type of zone they used. He knew they couldn’t match up one-on-one with this team. Maybe that didn’t take a genius, but he at least avoided a 40 point blowout and gave his team a chance in heck (if Nolte is cold, could have been different) rather than no chance at all. You are right, Milton better learn – fast – how to overcome an effective zone other than 5-6 3’s from Nolte (something like that). I assume Boyd will react and adapt to this obvious scouting report. I don’t think he has 3 rings for nothing. We will see soon.

Saw both Groves and Johnson last night in Savannah. Groves is very good but shouldn’t have struggled at home against MLK. Seemed to struggle and get frustrated when they couldn’t run and dunk like they wanted. A good defensive minded team that is disciplined can give them trouble. Johnson was ok but beating a one dimensional 9-18 Redan team was what they should have done. It will be like night and day playing Westlake in their next game. Don’t see them coming within 20 or 30.

Saw Newton a few times this year and they are a good team but playing in a weak region(2-AAAAA) will hurt them assuming they meet up with Groves in the 3rd round. Don’t think they’ll be able to rebound with Groves and their fast break is very good. They would have to play a very deliberate game to cut down on possessions and rotate at least two players back on defense on missed shots. Otherwise the game could get away from them quickly and they would be forced to play up-tempo which would be exactly what Groves will want. Groves should make the final four and is definately a threat to win. Haven’t seen Norcross so I don’t know how they would stack up but Westlake would be a great match. It would look like a college game size-wise with a slight edge going to Westlake.

However, I am sure you were a wheeler fan in 2006 when a less heralded team from Savannah, beach, beat wheeler in the semi and Norcross went on to win the state championship. Or in 2005, when the very talented wheeler team was defeated in the region tournament and had to play Norcross in the 1st round. You know the rest of the story, Wheeler was defeated and Norcross went on to win their 2nd state championship in a row. Or how about 2007, a highly talented wheeler team who has beaten good teams all over country and they were defeated in the championship by a just better than average Norcross team and won thier third championship in a row.

The point I am trying to make is that the best team does not always win. That is why we play the games.

Now let me introduce you to Jeremy Lamb. Jeremy is not a hot shot like you fine on the other high profile teams in north Atlanta. He is a under spoken dude that lets his basketball play speak for him. The reason you don’t know him is because last year he did not even start but came off the bench for the devils and was successful. This summer he stepped up his game so much that UConn decided he was the Atlanta player that they wanted over all of the others hs players. I think that speak volumes about Jeremy and his game.

So Norcross is just a better that average team that has an incredible resent history, talented coach and a team that has found different ways to win 23 games in a row. Yes wheeler and milton should win but they don’t always win and that is why we play the games. Remember Norcross has nothing to loss and big “W” and “M” have everything to loss. And Milton has not even won one championship yet so they have a long way to go to catch up with the elite 5A programs.

Hope to see you in Carrollton.

Milton will blow Norcross out of the gym. Bad matchups for Norcross all over the floor. Boyd will outcoach whoever the dude is over at Norcross and Milton’s guards will own the court. Julian will domimante McDougald and U Nictor Vickerson and outscore both of them combined by 10 points.

DYNASTY… hold on now. Norcross is solid but Mill Creek would think otherwise. They are responsible for 2 of Norcross’ 4 losses. The other 2 coming to the #1 team in the Nation St Mary’s of CA and #13 team in the nation Broilingbook, IL. They are solid but must play better than they did against Roswell. Frankly I’d love to see them and Redan and Redan MAY, just MAY have to fight with Mill Creek.

Guys kill the Milton Norcross talk. I’m not so sure Norcross is game. They’ve have their hands full with a Meadowcreek team that goes 10 deep easy. Jeremy Lamb is the key and Nickerson down low has to do work as does Marty Johnson at the pg spot. In the end Meadowcreek may be a little too much with Terrence Glass, John Ruff, Lavon Hooks and Shaquille Morris leading the way. Should be interesting.

Wheeler is solid but don’t sleep on Brian William’s as he lead Central Gwinnett against Wheeler in his home gym. Central Gwinnett is no Peachtree Ridge. The only trouble you can really give Central Gwinnett is if you have a solid height advantage with guys who can play. Harrison had the height but didn’t have the talent. Wheeler/CGwinnett will be a very interesting watch.

I also know some folks are sleeping on Rockdale. Well those same folks better keep their eyes on Rockdale/Hillgrove on Tuesday. Yea yea Rockdale had to come from behind to beat Fayette but I don’t see them losing to Hillgrove. Kevin Ware and CJ Wilson will be too much for Ed Morris’ Hawks.

Campbell and McEachern will also be a good watch yet I’ll take 3 sophomores (Campbell’s Seymour, Cotton and Shanks) over the one man band show of Tennessee commit Tre Golden. Now Golden did defer a lot in McEacherns 1st rd game but lowly Berkmar may have given Campbell just enough of a blueprint.

Gotta love Tourney basketball…come on AJC step it up

That 3 Peat team was nearly one and done. 56-54 against a 4th seed from the 6AAAAA. After that game I am sure a Walton team with a healthy Harrow would run Norcross out of the gym and they were the 5th best team in 6AAAAA. On paper or on the court Norcross losses by 10 or more to Milton if they get past the next round. History is just that history something that happened in the past. All your best player are in college and they can not help you. The best players this year and next are at Milton. So meet the future if you can get there.

As for all those wins all I can say is Region 6 3 wins Region 7 one win three losses. Now we will find out if Norcross can bring it every night because for the first time this season they will have to to survive.

alot to catch up on, im going to ignore the jealous marietta fan and stick to a sensible debate with the norcross and milton fans….as for HS hoops follower, i am very wary of c gwinnett, teams that i know nothing about are quite scary to be honest, i have no idea how they play or what they are capable of, so i hope wheeler is focused for this road game

3 straight- im very aware that the best team doesnt win the title every year, i went to wheeler so yes i was a fan when they lost when they shouldnt have…i was a fan in 2005 when wheeler beat the vaunted south gwinnet team with louis williams, and the next year when wheeler sadly lost to beach when wheeler had a team that was nothing short of phenomenal…in 2007 norcross had the better team, wheeler had jj hickson but after that wheeler was not that outstanding…2008 we just lost to a great high school player in aminu, he was easily the difference in that title game…as for lamb he sounds a bit like dequan jones, jones took a huge leap from his jr to sr year where he became a highly touted rectruit

and for the mhs/nhs game, no one would get blown out in that game, i could see norcross keep that one interesting

First I would like to say is that, The Georgia playoff scheduling needs to like NCAA Tournament Bracket just like someone else brought that to my attention reading these posts, the same goes for Football all so. I went to both Norcross and Meadowcreek high school a long way back, so im thinkin about attending that game. But someone needs to be fired when scheduling these far away games when both teams arent no where close to the host stadium like West Ga. Come now! BUT LET THE BEST TEAM WIN on ANY GIVING DAY! South Atlanta is wishy washy this year……if they play the way they played friday they WILL NOT be defending their title! But they do have the potential to win it all! They need some floor leadership too…..and some fans would help too…….I never seen a team so good have as little support as this team…..in Vincent Banks Days they would pack every gym they played in whether home or away!!!

I must say that I DO like the fact that the team looks as if they expect to win EVERY game they play though…….even through all the wins the team has expressions on their faces as if they lost the game……so with that being said, if they make it to the rematch of playing Columbia, they will not be a pushover for Columbia! This will be a great game and probably be considered the “REAL” state championship game!

Even Carver-Atlanta has talent. yes there is alot of talent from cleveveland ave, jonesboro rd. da whole zone 3 area. Unlike wheeler we dont have to go out and recruit we keep talent in the neighborhood. If we make it to Macon this year again watch out and next year to because we aint really losing nobody.

Because Columbia is gonna give everybody 4qtrs of Hell!!!
Every time Rod Rucker go out for some air or foul trouble we going on a 15-0 run!! Thats what you learn when you play against other teams around America thats bigger, faster and better than you(Yates and Oak Hill).Hope Coach Brown had Elbert CO.running Cross Country during football season!!!

Hold your Horses: :-) Not so fast my friend:-)

Do you really believe that Columbia will win the State title this year? I believe you are talking prematurely if you really believe that in Class AAA, the teams should just go on, and hand the State Title over to the Columbia Eagles.

There an enornmous amount of good, well not just good but great Class AAA teams out there. What about Lagrange, Westover, Liberty County etc. You should really think about that.

If you know about AAA basketball then you would know I was only talking about how those teams LaGrange,Liberty,Westover,Monroe,Dougherty and Washington Co….(If they beat S.Atlanta) gonna beat up on each other before they even think about seeing Columbia. They better worry about each other before they even look our way!!! Hope that answered your Q.

South Atl had just been to much of a roller coaster ride for me this year….now as far as these LaGrange’s, Liberty’s, etc…..I havent seen them but I know SAHS and Columbia are like two BIG bullies and there swagger alone defeats most….so that being said when ya’ll face them boys in Purple and Turquiose ya better not be scared!!! I hate that SA may have the toughest road to Macon but its all good….many of the SA players have played against national powers in the past so there is plenty of experience to get them thru to Macon!

DEVIL LOVER MY MAN. ARE YOU STILL TRYING TO COMPARE WHO DID WHAT THIS YEAR. MAN YOU MUST REALLY HATE REGION 6. BUT LETS STICK TO THE FACTS. YOU CLAIM WHEN MILTON BEAT NORCROSS, NORCROSS HAD A BAD GAME. ON FRIDAY NORCROSS HAD A BAD GAME ALSO, THE PROBLEM WAS THAT CENTENNIAL HAD THEIR WORSE GAME OF THE YEAR, ESPECIALLY THE FOUL SHOOTING DOWN THE STRETCH WHEN THEY COULD HAVE PUT IT AWAY IN REGULATION. AND IF YOU STILL WANNA COMPARE, IF YOU TAKE REGION 6 AND NORCROSS COMMON OPPONENTS IN THE STATE TOURNEY REGION 6 AVERAGE MARGIN OF VICTORY IS 9.5 COMPARED TO NORCROSS’S 9.3 (AND THAT INCLUDES AVERAGING IN THE LOSSES.) LASTLY, LEST WE FORGET ABOUT NORCROSS BEATING UP ON WEAK TEAMS, REGION 7 IS THE ONLY AND I REPEAT THE ONLY REGION WITH ONE TEAM LEFT IN THE TOURNEY. EVERY REGION HAS AT LEAST 2 LEFT, WITH REGION 6 AT 3 TEAMS.

East Hall my friend. They are known for upsetting teams. You all are tall with no true guards. Only time will tell. Greetings Eagle1,

I hear you. But like I said, If (IF AGAIN I TRULY SAY)meet with either of the teams at the end, you had better not take them lightly. Especially Liberty County. I have seen Columbia’s size and you have some height. But height does not win games. Defense win games. If can make it pass South Atlanta, (If South Atlanta can even beat Region 3-AAA Washington County) you all will have your hands full. :-) But I don’t think that Columbia will beat South Atlanta. During the season, a few of these them were ranked number one in the State. Columbia, South Atlanta, Liberty County etc. They were not ranked for being a mediocre team. Columbia had better discipline themseves accordingly if they expect to go any further in this post season.

Dude you seem to overlook Elbert County just a little bit I would say. I saw you guys play last year in the Elite 8 and I have to say I was impressed by the way you guys played, but man Elbert was off just about the entire game with the exception of Rod. Elbert has so so so much depth off the bench this year that even if Rod has to sit out for a bit that they will not lose a beat on offense. Be wary though, that if Keldrick Rambert and Sergio Harper are shooting the ball well, it does not matter if Rod is playing his best or not. Also, Bryson Robertson has really developed into a fantastic player. He is like a slightly taller Rod Rucker. :)
