Westlake defeated Valdosta 83-68, really wasn’t that close. Westlake led by as much as 29 in 2nd half (more like a 20 point game). Everybody played well. “Big Tony Jacobs” put on a show in the 1st half with 10 points in 1st period (about 12 points total) and great defense & rebounding. Marcus Thornton had early foul trouble but finished with a quiet 25 points, 10 rebounds & 5 blocked shots. Newberry, Johnson, Ali, they all played well. Valdosta’s Jay Rome was very quite the 1st half but heated up the second half. Westlake was just too big, and equally as fast.

its not fair to criticize the bad play of region 6 after you just barely beat one.
and i dont know what your talking about, both wheeler and campbell played well, and everyone knows Milton never plays to their talent level. Honestly, 4 high major players and all you can score is 63 points.

Wheeler came to show who’s boss and did. They played a nice game on both ends of the floor, well balanced all the way around. The game was never in question. There is a huge talent gap between these two teams. Walton, Campbell and Centennial are all better than PTR, 7AAAAA’s #2 seed. I’d put them about on Pope’s level.
Milton will put a world-class beatdown on Norcross.

Norcross didn’t beat Centennial, they beat themselves at the foul line. While it’s true Centennial goes home and Norcross lives to play another day, Centennial missed 2 critical foul shots with seconds left in regulation that would have put the game away. So count your blessings by winning by a grand 2 points at your house.

Hey Doyle Hargraves . Norcross is just an average who beats bigs egos with weak coaching. For the record Norcross beat Collins by 14 twice and lost to Milton by only 4 on a neutral court before our average team started playing together. By the way Milton just only beat Collins Hill region 7 4th seed by 8 points at home. I think I’ll take the points on the Milton/Norcross game.

The Georgia High School Association is under the direction of IDIOTS!!
They have teams traveling all across the state for the first two rounds playing single games because they are to CHEAP to rent facilities that are big enough to host an area tournament. Ther can be no double-headers. They must be approved by the GHSA! Clinch County girls are traveling 215 miles one way to Washington-Wilkes in the opening round. I bet that will be a capacity crowd…maybe the capacity of a school bus. And there are more games just like that.
The IDIOTS have ruined the state basketball tournament, their is no tournament feel about it anymore at all.

Hey rudbuck . Both teams did not play their best. But to say you would won if, well then I can say, “if we had made our shot before you missed your shots then we would have won.” It is always the final score that count and tonight by 2 pts we were they better team.
Good come back Centennial in the 4qtr.

I was at the Rockdale-FCHS game and let me tell you this, Rockdale is not even a top 3 team in the state. Kevin Ware has the awareness of a crackhead with the basketball. He is the most spastic, unreliable shooter I’ve ever seen for someone ranked as highly as him. It is a shame that Fayette County lost that game. Rockdale will be lucky to make it out of the 2nd round.

There’ll be some kind of home court shennigans that will allow Norcross to probably squeak by Meadowcreek at home, just like against C tonight.
But, after they leave their home court, Milton will send them back. Just like they got sent home last year, as soon as they went to a nuetral court.

Region 6 goes 3-1 as expected. As a Wheelerfan I worry about Central Gwinnett just because I haven’t seen any of them and we have absolutely no common opponents. Wheeler should win if they play good and focused, but that’s not a guarantee with Wheeler. Milton Norcross will be a good game, but I’d take Milton by 7 or so. Milton plays up and down to the levels of their opponents so I wouldn’t take much from them having a hard time with Collins Hill. ONTO Rd. 2 we go.

Devil Nation, Milton was never in trouble. led by 10 or more from end of 1sr qtr. They do tend to play down and nor blow out teams. Don’t get me wrong, Collins Hill played a very good game. Their A game, but cream rises to the top. Lots of cream at Milton. CH was VERY well coached. They stymied Milton racehorse offense in 1st half with a frustrating zone. Shannon Scott and Dai Jon Parker couldn’t penetrate or get Royal the ball down low. If not for Nolte (17 at half – 25 for game), Would have been a tight game going into 2nd half. Very nice game CH.
Hope to see you somewhere in west ga, devil.

Hey Devil, well said. they both looked sluggish. But as you said the final score showed Norcross won by 2 at home, so they were the better team. But looking at all your post, you seem to be the one comparing that Norcross beat so and so by this much and Milton only beat them by that much. But at the end they were the better team tonight whether they won by 2 as you just did or 20. Same goes for Miltons 4 point win over Norcross, they were the better team…..so lets truly stop comparing, the team with more points win. This is playoff time, it’s a whole new season.

I think that GAC is a fantastic team. I don’t know that they are the top team from all classes, but they are up there. And, they are hands down the best team in the city of Norcross. Not even a question.

W/E: I dont think you have to worry about your boys overlooking C Gwinnett. Pretty sure they want to see us in finals and know they can’t sleepwalk through early rounds. They have a killer instinct and will prob blow them out like tonight. You are right, Milton, unlike Wheeler, tends to play down and up to opponents (except the bad loss to Cent at home). Hope we get the Milton/Wheeler rubber match in the Arena. Good luck till then.

Milton fan: Marietta finished the season at 11-18 and sort of backed into state. They’ve got a super talented 6′7″ soph that is significantly underutilized by their approach (wouldn’t be suprised to see him with you guys or at Holt Road next year). Got a real big man at 6′11″ around 260ish, who usually underperforms. Not much else to talk about. You shouldn’t have much trouble with them.

Foxdog……… You’re being way too nice in describing the GHSA. They are living in the 19th century. Every other state including Tenn, Ohio,SC, and Ky all have better formats for a state tourney. The way the first 2 rounds are played with zero crowds except family at many, is nothing but a first class joke.
If it wasn’t for Gwinnett Arena and the Macon complex, even as old as it is, the whole tournament would be a national first class joke. I love basketball and have lived in 5 states and all are so far ahead of Ga it’s pathetic. My rant for the night, because only the oblong ball counts in this state. Kind of a shame.

I love Milton Fan and he brings a lot to these forums but I’m not sure what game he was watching. Milton should have won this game by 25+ but they didn’t play like they wanted it, which is pretty sad playing at home in the first round of the playoffs. Their zone offense was pathetic with nobody looking to penetrate the zone at all…it was weak pass to one side back to the top of the key with a weak pass to the other side. Nolte definitely bailed them out in the first half. Also have to disagree with CH being well coached…it could have been a close game until Milton made a good decision to switch to a 1-3-1 which CH had no clue how to attack. Milton’s defense played well but if they can’t play better against a zone, which they’ll surely see again, they’re in trouble.

You can sleep on Groves of Savannah if you want to…if so, be prepared to loose. They have two 6′9″ inch starters that can match up with anyone in the state. They are the fastest team in the state, for they have yet to find ANYONE TO STOP THE FAST BREAK. The guard play can’t be stopped and it has been noted that they have the fastest guard in the state. If your team can’t stop them from running, stay home, you’re going to loose. Ask MLK. They got ran over last night in Savannah. Meadowcreek got a luck win earlier in the season. They could NOT beat them a second time. A former raider fom Redan says so.

Here’s how it’ll go down in Carrolton:
Julian will dominate McDonald and Nickerson(outscore them combined around 26-10).
Nolte will bust the zone up.
Dai-Jon will shut Lamb down(14 points or less)
Shannon…well there’s just nobody on Norcross to stop him.
There will be matchup problems all over the floor for Norcross and no officiating to bail them out. Milton might go the foul line 15-20 times.
Norcross’s squeaker and the blowout of PTR showed us all we needed to know about 7AAAAA last night.

Realist: You are right about Milton’s weak zone offense. I guess my point was the CH coach made the right coaching decision to deploy the type of zone they used. He knew they couldn’t match up one-on-one with this team. Maybe that didn’t take a genius, but he at least avoided a 40 point blowout and gave his team a chance in heck (if Nolte is cold, could have been different) rather than no chance at all. You are right, Milton better learn – fast – how to overcome an effective zone other than 5-6 3’s from Nolte (something like that). I assume Boyd will react and adapt to this obvious scouting report. I don’t think he has 3 rings for nothing. We will see soon.
Good post, Reality.

Did anyone from Hiram have any thoughts on the Marist player who went for 48 points last night? I saw the point total on an online paper, but there were no details on the game. Sounds like it might have been a one against five kind of game.
