Michelin man? if you mean the 6′8 240 stud sophomore that is Chuck Mitchell then you clearly have not seen this team recently. Say what you want about him, but the last 6 weeks Jelan has played great ball and been an excellent teammate. As for a midget lineup- 5′10 Phil Taylor, 6′1 Karl Cochran, 6′4 Joey Jerome, 6′6 Jelan Kendrick, and a 6′8 Chuck Mitchell- all 5 are D1 signees or have offers BTW. Last I checked that’s a pretty good lineup size-wise for a high school team. And as for your dis on Chuck- ask Julian Royal who outrebounded him and blocked his dunk attempt straight-up on Saturday night. Wheeler also brings 2 solid bench players with the 6′4 Derek Frye and 6′1 sharpshooter KK Simmons. The rest of te bench ain’t too shabby either but Doug likes his 7-man rotation.

Truth4Westlake- I respect your opinion, but in regards to GACS… Let’s take Norcross vs. GACS… looking at Peachtree Ridge as a common opponent. A few weeks after Norcross was handled by PR, GACS had a 39 point lead on the same team then put in their subs and only won by 20. GACS played close and almost beat Melrose, Memphis… top 20 in USA. Just the facts

Hey!!!! all you Redan fan’s take it easy………. We’re going for three in a row. Give respect when it’s due. The point is we are a very tough team and you know it. At this point we aren’t facing each other

You tell ‘em, SWD PP. DeKalb has 3A & 4A locked up in the boys, and 4A for sure in the girls. The Lady Panthers are so deep with talent that they will simply wear-down whomever they play. Same for Columbia and Miller Grove boys teams.
Oh, does anyone know a good lawyer?

3 in a row is awesome but can you do it on 5A level, don’t get me wrong I love SWD but you have to give Redan some credit too. Crawford Lewis while you were shouting out Dekalb you did not even mention Redan. What’s up with that playa playa. Call Bruce Hagan, he is the peoples lawyer.

We at Centennial are p.o, but only because Campbell hurt Centennial’s big man (#00). Which cost us the Wheeler game. Don’t worry 3 in a row that streak ends tomorrow, the big man is back.

I would think a “GHSA Basketball Expert” would have mentioned somewhere that the Number one team in Girls AA, the Vidalia Indians was undefeated. I know you don’t get out of the Atlanta Area much, but c’mon 27-0 heading into the tournament and not even a mention? I’m not sure how deep they can go, because of their depth or lack thereof, but to finish the regular season and the Region Tournament and still be undefeated is an accomplishment and should have been recognized. Let’s remember they beat #3 Laney twice, ranked Dodge County twice and 5A Lovejoy on their way to 27-0.

You’re right, G-dub, the Redan girls do derserve some love. Is Redan moving into a new region next year?

Well NW Whitfield’s girls have traveled to many places this year and are very battle tested so it should be a great game. Didn’t mean to start an argument. haha.
Who do you think will win, Northwest Whitfield or Chamblee?

Seeding would be impossible.
Unlike the NCAA, there isn’t enough information disseminated across the state about various teams. There isn’t enough time to watch video and it’s also difficult to rank schedule strength.
I understand it’s difficult to do because of staff cuts and a different focus to the coverage because of the changes in distribution, but like a previous poster mentioned, the Vidalia girls are undefeated and haven’t been mentioned. Vidalia’s in a tough region with annual stalwarts in Dodge County and Laney. Vidalia is in a relative no man’s land where they are just out of range for several daily papers and thus haven’t been hyped very much.
The AJC has a video posted from a basketball brawl in South Carolina, but never mentioned that a similar incident took place just last week during region semifinals when Thomasville players and a Berrien player took exception to one another and were ejected.
Not the AJC’s fault that it can’t feasibly cover the state, but I don’t think we can suggest seeding at this point because the state is currently very unfamiliar with itself.
Trivia: The GHSA actually has used a seeding system. Somewhat, anyway. In the 1950s, Classes B and C didn’t use regions during cage season, but were divided along congressional districts. 12 districts and a 16-team bracket meant that the league voted in additional teams that had not qualified for state.

Wow, although i stepped down today, and may be going to jail, I’ll be watching that region next year from my cot, either in jackson, or confederate ave if those fed charges stick.
Ugh, that region already was the toughest in 4-A, but it looks like they made it tougher.
PS, Dylan, NW Whitefield may just be too big for Chamblee girls, but that 1967 gym will be rockin saturday. So much so that the rats and roaches will probably be driven out. Sorry, the toxic mold and CO2 levels may actually rise during the game

GHSA needs to re think their state tournament objectives and approach. If the objective is to determine the best boys and girls teams then they should re think their process approach for determining that.
Norcross boys and girls teams have earned the right to be ranked from no.2 to no.5 in the state all year. The girls who have even beaten Mill Creek no. 3 will have to play Parkview undefeated and ranked no.1 in the second round if they beat Roswell. The boys who will play Centennial in the first round would have to play the no. 1 team in the state Milton if they are fortunate to earn the right by beating two top ten teams first.
I know distance is an issue but these players and coaches work to hard not to have a fair and equitable chance to reach their basketball goals and win a championship. Now that you have us traveling to West Ga in the third round we could just as well travel to Macon in the first and on second rounds so that pairings would be more equitable. Then no 1 could play no. 32 and no. 2 could play no. 31 and so on.

There’s no doubt that in AAA, the South regions are the toughest considering South Atl falls in Region 4. I believe there are 6 legitimate title contenders for the AAA crown. Monroe, Lagrange, Liberty Co., Westover, and South Atlanta all possess the necessary tools to win the State, while only Columbia passes the eye test IMHO to win from the North regions. That being said, Monroe (terrible guard play), Lagrange (weak schedule), and South Atlanta (too much turmoil @ wrong time) won’t make to Macon and after looking at the brackets my Final Four predictions are Westover, Liberty Co., Columbia, and Carrollton.

No disrespect intended, but seeding for the state tournament at high school level will never happen. The theory is good, but there is not enough information on the teams nor enough people who are qualified to do the seeding as the NCAA selection committee does. Very few people watch teams from across the entire state during the regular season. I just don’t think it is feasible.

“And I’ll be covering the Round One Fayette-Rockdale boys game tonight.”
Good choice Carvell. I think that game is the best match-up in 4A tonight. I saw Fayette Co. at Christmas down at the Mt. Zion tourney. Not too impressed, but maybe they were missing somebody. Rock’ has been #1 virtually all year so we’ll soon find out if they can play, or were just the beneficiaries of a weak region. However, if they are as good as the fans in Rockdale say, then they should step on Fayette, “with a hob-nailed boot.”

devil lover- cetenn cant win tourney games and we should all know that…region tourney last year, blowout loss to wheeler and early exit from state…this year, loss to campbell in region semis, followed by a big game vs wheeler with the loser going to norcross, and they lost again by 12, and have now promptly lost again early in the state tourney…december wins mean very little, and both last 2 years they beat wheeler in december and then lost by dbl digits in the more important region tourney game…if you beat milton on a neutral floor i’ll be glad to join in on the norcross party, but til then, winning at home vs centennial is no surprise to me
