Are the Redan girls the best basketball team in the state?

Chat with the AJC's Michael Carvell

AJC's Michael Carvell

There’s something special about Redan girls.

Actually, there are a lot of special things about the Raiders. They loaded at every position, including at least three major-college prospects as starters, and have one of the deepest benches in the state.

Is Redan on the brink of greatness? Or are they already there?

Redan is 23-0 , including a dominating win over archrival Stephenson. The Raiders are the defending state champions, and expected to win it all again, currently ranked No. 1 in Class AAAAA. They are the nation’s No. 6 team in USA Today

Is Jerry Jackson getting a little too much credit for the team’s success in his first year as head coach? Probably. But he also deserves praise for not letting pride get in the way. You know, to make changes just to make changes, like many new leaders do.

Let’s just skip to the bottom line: Is Redan the best girls basketball team in Georgia? Is there anyone close? And if they win repeat as champs, where will they stand compared to other dynasties? Please post below.

No doubt. To win fifty straight in any sport today is just phenominal. Its very difficult to keep a team humbled, focused and prepared each and every game knowing that every opposing team is bringing there A game to bring you down. Big ups to the Girls, Coach Malone for setting the foundation and Coach Jackson n staff for being smart and not fixing what was not broke. This Redan team will be State Champs this year and will go down as one of the best teams of all time!!!!

They most definitely are the best team in the state. These girls have not lost to any team in the state since losing in the state championship game two years ago. They have gone to Myrtle Beach and won a tournament there, so to take everyones best shot and handle the pressure the way they have, speaks volumes. Until they’re dethroned (Queens Of The Hardwood). Congrats Lady Raiders and Coach Jackson n staff. In the Raider Nation you are the best.

No Doubt…the best girls team in the state. Their starting 5players are all D1 prospect. There isn’t any team that can touch the and they keep getting better…GO Redan Girl!

No doubt they are in a league of their own in GA but in GISA, Trinity Chritain Lady Crusader are 28- 0. Have dominated ever game, play all 15 players nearly everay game with starters only playing about half the time and had 10 score is their final game against Augusta Prep. The school is one of smallest in GISA AAA with only 140 high school students.

No, I think Norcross is the best in the state. Redan make come a close second. If every team had a AAU team on it. Man what team would be the best then. They are a good AAU team.

Mr. Dees what world are you in. The only thing about Norcross is that you guys have more $$$$$. However, Redan is going to eat your two oops three $$$ girls alive. The starting 5 will show you how the game is played. When it comes to AAU well let’s just say all of the girls are very talented on both ends. If Norcross is the best why are you guys not winning all of your games. If we don’t meet up in the State we will have to schedule a game for you in your gym. Alisha, Kierra & Makenzie will have your heads spinning. Nia & Aneesha will have you shaking @ your knees. So put your $$$ where your mounth is. Ask some of your playes we have earned our RESPECT. Try next year. You first need to beat Parkview(smile).

First, the Redan Girls Basketball team is definitely the best team in the state!

Second, most people who have knowledge of the Redan Girls Basketball program over the past three seasons understand that Coach Jackson has a WHOLE LOT to do with the state championship last year, and the state-runner up the year before. Not to take anything away from Coach Malone, who is a good coach, but before Coach Jackson arrived, Redan was not playing anywhere close to what they have recently. Why do you think they have not missed a beat?

Flogging Molly: It’s GISA, enough said. A Class AAA GISA team is no more than a Class A GHSA team. Apples and oranges.

All I know is the Norcross Lady Blue Devils plan on giving them a run for the State prize!

Norcross is too young and will fold under pressure! Redan will repeat as state champs and go undefeated in two straight years, that is history!

Norcross is too young, Parkview not tough enough, I have seen all of them play and the only team that can compare to Redan is SWD, and Redan beat them to. Also, Mr. Dees what are you smoking? Nobody said anything about AAU, Redan would slaughter Norcross in any league, AAU,High school,Rec league, church league any league!!!!!!!!!! PEACE OUT

Mr Dees… is tripping. how can you dispute that these girls are the best in the state? Having watched them beat the best in 4A this year and the best in 5A last year and this year, I would say they are the best hands downs… stay off Dees nuttz Mr Dees or whatever it is that has your messed up!

they refused to put Columbia girls on the schedule, could possibly have one loss, Gisa is a huge step down from the real authentic league

Redan Girls Basket ball team are number one no doubt. Let me tell you it is best you bring your
A-game everytime you are in the presence of Redan Lady Raiders. The thing that makes Redan Basketball team so great is that every one of those girl are blessed with special gifts from God. When these gifts show up on the floor and the other teams starts to feel that they might have a change to win, that’s when the Redan Lady Raiders take a moment to re-group and then it’s game Over. JERRY JACKSON YOU HAVE BEEN BLESS WITH THE BEST! GOING ALL THE WAY

You think the Parkview girls aren’t tough enough! Have you forgotten how they spanked Spephenson in the basketbrawl game for the state championship just a few years back. When they need to get down funky with the competetion they’ll do it again. Don’t count the lady Panthers out until you have beaten them. My $$ is on the lady Panthers.

Congrats to Coach Jack. Your doing wonderful with the girls. But, I would like to be the first to give a BIG SHOUT to all the other Coaches who have a hell of a impact on the team. The guys who have travel with the girls during the summer and practice them real hard to gel as a team. There are many people who are taking credit for the success of a team without putting in the real gutter work. SHOUT OUT TO YOU… You guys know who we are!!!

Redan is a very good team and they handle winning very well. I am very proud of them. But why doesn’t anyone mention the fact that they did lose a preseason game to SWD this season; I don’t think there will be a better played game by anyone this season, not even in the state tournaments!!!

How can you say Norcross is better than Redan, when Redan has won 50 straight games, and what is Norcross record???? If Nia, Alisha, Anessha Kierra and McKenzie continue to bring their A-GAME, then Norcross, Parkview and anybody else better come with it.

OF COURSE!!!!!!! As a former graduate of RHS, I’ve seen that team transform from great to SPECTACULAR…. Coach Malone did such an outstanding job w/ those girls & i know Coach Jackson will continue on. No other team in this state can compare to the bond, drive & passion those girls put out on the court, daily [whether practice or game time]! To me, the Lady Raiders are Number 1 in the WORLD! They will continue to be my favorite female basketball team ever!

There is no doubt whatsoever that Redan Lady Raiders is the best girls basketball team, at least for those of us who really know basketball. These young ladies are not only talented on the court but they are scholars in the classroom as well. We all know that basketball is about hard work and good decision making and the Lady Raiders do both. There is no doubt that they will bring home a 2nd State Championship. Hopefully, they will only have to play the team and NOT THE OFFICIALS TOO! I hate to bring up old news, but I can’t forget the game last year when Redan girls had to play Parkview. The officiating was HORRIBLE AND COMPLETELY AGAINST REDAN. My prayer is that Redan bring their A game, like they always do, and just play good basketball because it is clear that their are many who DO NOT want to see them take home a 2nd Championship. Honestly, when it’s all said and done FAIRLY, Redan will reign as the 5A Champions AGAIN. Let’s go Raiders!!!
