High school baseball season and the warmer days of spring

BaseballHigh school baseball is just around the corner.  With these cold and icy conditions, who is not looking forward to sitting in the baseball stands in the glorious spring weather?

One of the state’s best to watch this year is Central Gwinnett’s Philip Bates.

He is a four-year member of the varsity, playing infield and pitcher. As a sophomore, Bates turned heads with a .366 batting average. Last year, he was one of the state’s top hitters, pushing his average up to .478, good enough to earn All-County honors by the Gwinnett Dougout Club. Bates will play in college at Reinhardt.

Who do you think will be some of the top baseball players in the metro and state for 2010? Please post below.

Hey Micheal. When can we have a discussion about something important like who is going to win the 5A state championship. With just less than one month, Feb 26th, the first round of the state tournament begins. With Milton showing some weakness, it looks like anyone tounament.

What do you say?

The Great State of Georgia is blessed with one of the best draft classes ever. It will be epic in college and high school. As in could go down as one of the best state drafts in the history of the game. Cowart, Bedrosian, Bryson, Emmanuel, Carey, Austin, etc. That was just H.S.

i agree with baseball fan, tyler austin is a big name from heritage. nakeem forte the new transfer from rockdale county will provide great depth. kevin dawkins from rockdale county will have a breakout year at the plate, and austin jenkins from rockdale county is a very solid middle infielder and will also have a breakout season. everyone on this list will have signed a scholarship by the end of the seaason.

AlbanyState

11:30 pm

Austin Jenkins has solid potential for the jv squad at Rockdale. Maybe he can teach the Varsity guys how to run. but the star catcher Dawkins needs to show him how to just HIT the ball. and the Young 2nd baseman, Jeremy Sparks, should give him some pointers on how to field and throw a ball on the infield. he will have great potential in his senior year

Austin jenkins?? seriously????? i played with this kid last year, well not really played, i played he kept pitch count and this kid is terrible, potential threat though……. against his own team.. has no bat, no glove, no hands, no baseball since, i heard he commited to albany state though.. wow must have been in need of a baseball manager

Austin Jenkins???? I thought he was the back-up???? I went to one of there practices and watched him look like the jv shortstop from heritage!!!! I mean i saw him gettin ready and i was like yeah this kid gonn be good, but nope. He sucks. His parents wasted there money to make him look like a superstar when he is just ok. but he is pretty quick if you need an all time pinch runner

I agree with what my colleague from dunwoody said. Austin Jenkins is a joke. Anyone from rockdale who believes that he has potential is just dumb. I have been on the same team as him, and as a junior, he not only was on JV, but was on the bench. Another fact why he cant field is that he ISNT an infielder. he played outfield at dunwoody. sorry rockdale, but you guys got sold a bunch of crap.

dekalb region 6

February 8th, 2010
8:12 pm

Looking at region 6 last year there was many good teams. looking at the teams that gained and lost players i think the region will come out like this.
marist
lakeside
tucker
chamblee/miller grove

-Marist is always stacked with college prospects.
-lakeside has 8 starting seniors lead by ace pitchers will middour and andy threatt.
-Tucker has lots of young talent this year lead by senior eric bowers and stephon hooker and junior pitcher paul robert.
-Chamblee lost there ace pitcher and also star shortstop ennis coble but this could be a re-building year for them.
-miller grove led by monte reese is a good pitcher and they have other athlete players to back him up.

Marist and lakeside look like they have the teams to go deep into the 4a playoffs this year.

good luck to all teams.

I think that the first two teams will be in that order than it will go chamblee then tucker.
Marist like said earlier is always stacked with talent.
Lakeside will have a real close season and will be a game behind marist but will still go far in the playoffs with threat, midour, means, earnest, and wofford all did well last year
Chamblee still has good ptching with lowe and bj robinson will lead this team
Tucker has Seniors bowers and hooker coming back along with mcall and roberts to lead the pitching staff.

How does it feel to be the only senior in the world that has a curfew time at 7 p.m? U must not be really good after all if coach lets u actually leave practice. OLA HIGH SCHOOL in McDonough Henry County has the team to beat in Region 4 4A. 3-1 now only losing to NorthGate 7-4. Walked to many batters. 2 games won on run rule (Seqouia Gwinnette and Spalding County). Beat North Gwinnettes power hands down. Speed in the out field NEAL GANDEE and on bases, C J McDOWELL, KYLE BEACH. Good base and double base hitters. Gandee finished last year as sophmore playing JV and Varsity with a batting av of over .500. On base perc. even higher. This team plays the game smart and brings back the fun of the game.

Ha, Ha, Ha Chamblee..You let Millergrove beat you. Millergrove is stacked with talent. check out the teams stats. I told you to watch for Oscar Britton. He’s a senior and not even playing his best. Just think the team have juniors that will still be there next year.

cody adkins the top short stop in 4A and the top in the county and Neal Gandee the top outfielder in the state led Ola High School to a great year.. both hitting over .375 and a whopping on base percentage.. these two are the top prospects to watch out for next year.

Dwight Smith Jr. McIntosh is the best I have seen across the state thus far. His ethics, attitude and love for the game makes him special. I don’t think he’ll see NCAA he is that prepared.

Lassiter middle-infielder Nelson Ward has to be mentioned in this group. A true gamer, he is headed to Georgia. A sleeper among this year’s pitching class is Bret Marks of Blessed Trinity. He was 9-1 as a junior and already has 4 wins this year. He is 87-90 with hard sink and the best command (32
Strikeouts and 2 walks in 24 innings), I have seen in a prep pitcher in a while. He is committed to Mississippi State.

Wayne County in Jesup GA is having an awsome season in 4A, Colby Dent is as fast a center fielder as I have seen in many years, Wayne County is loaded and undefeated
