Georgia High School Football Daily Spotlight: Northside-Warner Robins jumps in national rankings

Northside of Warner Robins has climbed 19 spots to No. 4 nationally in the RivalsHigh 100 rankings.

Northside is coming off a 29-24 victory over Newnan, the last of the unbeaten teams in Georgia’s Class AAAAA to fall. Northside will be playing in its fifth state final this decade on Saturday against Camden County, which is ranked No. 25 by RivalsHigh.

Northside apparently has no shot at a national title because No. 2 Don Bosco Prep of New Jersey has finished its season at 12-0.

As I have said in the past—Rankings do not mean anything. Northside has a GREAT GREAT football team. For those that think we will have to throw the football to win are wrong. WE DO NOT THROW THE BALL. We line up and play old fashioned smash mouth football. As far as Northside is concerned—Camden respects you. Northside has the total package and the Wildcats will have to play their best game to win. As far as the Packers are concerned—-They have a great team as well. The Packers are good enough to win a State Championship as well. As far as Camden is concerned—-We lost 15 starters from the State Championship team last season and we are playing for it again. That speaks volumes for the coaching staff and players. Camden will not be rattled at all Saturday Night. We will just strap it on and play like heck for 48 minutes. May the best team Win—GO WILDCATS

REEZE, Now what? LOL. Tough year for Northside, huh? If everything you have posted about 2009 Northside from pre-season to the present is true, then Conrad Nix has my nomination as “Coach of the 21st Century”. LOL. Seriously, what Coach Nix has done at Northside is simply amazing. I am pulling for Northside in the state title game against Camden. What a great way to say “goodbye” to AAAAA and at the same time to validate the accomplishments of Northside while in AAAA. Your team and community continues to amaze me.

Newnan Fans, I was in Newnan yesterday and was surprised to see so many signs still up saying “Go Cougars”! I really believed this was the year for the Cougars especially when it came down to the “Final 4″. However, the way I look at it, there is still lots to be proud of and even better things to come in the future. The entire community is obviously behind the Cougars. That is #1. Secondly, the Newnan coaching staff is energetic and hungry. They will be back AGAIN in 2010 at yet another run at being Georgia’s best. With everything going for the Cougars, at some point it will be their turn. God Bless the Newnan football players, parents, coaches and fans. 2009 was a great run.

TNGADAWG Flunked Geography

You are so off-base when describing geographical areas of Georgia. Warner Robbbbins is in the middle of Georgia. So based on your logic, Warner Robbbbbbins is in south Georgia this year because they are in region 1 but next year they will be in middle Georgia because they were re-aligned. Thank goodness you don’t draw maps, teach geography or give people directions….then maybe you do teach – in south Georgia.

Never lived in Texas so I can’t “move back”. Just traveled there with my job and saw a lot of high school football in the north Dallas area. Georgia’s top team possibly can play with Texas’ top team but after that there’s no comparison. They don’t have one or two good teams like Georgia but dozens. By the way, based on the University of Texas roster most of their players are from Texas. Can’t say that for Alabama (from New Jersey??. Alabama is definitely the stronger team this year and will likely win the game. Colt McCoy should win the Heisman based on his college career; i.e. most wins ever by a college quarterback. Which by the way, the quarterback he passed played for UGA and now for the Detroit Lions- Matthew Stafford–which played high school football in TEXAS.

Yes, Colt broke DAVID GREEN’s record (Who is from Georgia), and ole Greene was never mentioned in any Heisman talk. It is very easy to tell that David was much more prepared for college than Stafford was when he came out.

TNGADAWG

Guess this ol’ teacher is going to have to give those such as Lissa, slalom1, and especially TNGADAW(FG) who was rather rude, a lesson in geographical facts and folklore. I do realize these young whippersnappers these days do not get taught some historical facts that would probably be of benefit at some point in their lives. It cannot all be blamed on the teachers though, based on some of the comments here on this blog, some basic things such as spelling and grammar are going in one ear and out the other. Now to the subject at hand, and jefferson this should answer your question also. Most authoritative sources and references consider the “gnat line” and the “fall line” in Georgia as being basically in the same spot. The fall line runs from Columbus to Macon to Milledgeville and on to Augusta. This is about the point where you can find those aggravating black gnats on the south side of the line but not on the north side. The type of soil changes in this area from north to south and accounts for the type environment conducive to these little pests. For those of us who have lived in South Georgia for years and years, we have, over time, developed built-in gnat swatters, and have passed them on genetically to our kids. It is basically a quick shot of air blown out of the sides of the mouth in quick succession. It works especially well if your hands are occupied with a project and the pesky little “boogers” decide to attack your eyes or nose. Some babies, deep in South GA have been seen doing this “little trick” when only about 3 days old. Now, for geographical purposes, technically Macon/Warner Robins is in central or middle Ga. That is very obvious. For the purposes of dividing an elongated state, such as GA, for sports and other purposes, a line is used, just as is the “fall line” or “gnat line”, which is basically the same. Macon is such a large area that parts of it are probably in North GA and parts in South Ga, but there is no arguing period, that Warner Robins, which is 15 miles south of Macon is in South Ga. You were incorrect TNGADAWG(FG) when you stated that the Houston Co. schools(NS, WR, HOCO, and Veterans), since they would be realigned next year, would not be in a South GA region. The first 3, not sure about Veterans since it’s new, will be in 1-AAAA which is considered a South GA region. They will be aligned with and playing such schools as Bainbridge and Thomas Co. Central (almost to the FL line) and some of the Columbus schools. All these schools in this region are below the fall line which separates North and South Ga. There is indeed a line that separates North and South Georgia, just as there is a Mason-Dixon line (will save that for later) that divides the USA. I sincerely hope this has cleared it up for some of you, especially one of you, and that you will sleep well tonite and HAVE A VERY, VERY, MERRY XMAS–GO NS ! BEAT THOSE CALAMADIENS

I usually don’t read these blogs because you get the classic “I really don’t know anything about football so I’ll say something cute and try and FOOL people with my knowledge”
Here is just a taste:
“The offense will have to move the chains on the ground and through the air” brillant observation.…
“Our offense will have to keep the ball long enough to keep their high potent offense off the feild. reckon.
” As long as we keep control of the game” and “our defense and special teams must play good”
Wow, I am overwhelmed with what you know about football.

Camden will win due to its HUGE advantage of getting players from Browntown( pop 75..mostly my relatives) and Waverly ( population 300).
It is just so unfair that Camden can get players from those huge urban populations. That is per NHS and his wisdom.LOL

I think it will a close, tight game. Both teams can play defense. “He who hangs on to the rock will win.” No fancy football strategy there, I know what you mean. But games always come down to hanging on to the rock, tackling,no penalties, etc. It is the little things that kill a team. That is why Camden beats up the Savannah schools. And win games in the playoffs. Fundamentals. KNOW WHAT I MEAN?

I’m from Warner Robins, but I don’t claim south Georgia. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but I’ve always claimed middle Georgia. Regardless of the region, Warner Robins is the The Best Place to Raise Kids in the state of Georgia (and I think the third best in the nation) as ranked by Business Week.

I thought that the Mason-Dixon line was here in Virginia not just south of Atlanta. As a casual observer it is extremely evident to me that almost every Georgia news agency reports how great all the previous top 10 ranked football teams in Georgia (AAAAA) are without giving Camden County much press other than listing their next victim. If the Wildcats down media precious Northside WR this weekend then all of Georgia can make excuses for their AAAAA teams and list why Camden County has an unfair advantage. They will have only beaten the #2, #3 and #6 teams in Ga top ten. Can anyone else say that? Too bad they have such a weak conference and still whoop up on the “Best” the state of Georgia has to offer. Can you say “BACK 2 BACK” State Championships?? Good Luck Wildcats!! Be sure to buy all of Georgia some cheese to go with that “whine”.

National polls are useless. State polls are useless. What matter is one thing in Warner Robins, GA. That is doing your best, playing together, and representing one of the greatest towns on earth!

The Eagle Nation is jacked. We could not have a finer opponent than the Wildcats of Camden County. I personally believe the two best programs, and this state has plenty of GREAT programs and many on the rise, in Georgia are facing off in the AAAAA State Championship.

It is nice that our Eagles are getting some love in the national poll. Northside has played 6 teams that were ranked in the Rivals.com national polls in the past 15 months. Northside is now in the State Championship game of a state loaded with national powers. It does surprise that our Eagles, with one loss, are ranked so highly. It does not surprise me that those who follow national football would not have some respect for Northside.

None of that matter. What matters is 4 quarters of football on Saturday in downtown Atlanta. No matter what happens, I am VERY proud of this group of Eagles who have achieved MUCH more than anyone (outside of Northside) expected of them. One might say the same about Camden County’s bunch.

in a discussion of best 5A program of the last 10 years parkview should get some notice. for the first half of the decade parkview was one of the most dominate programs in 5A, 3 consecutive 5A crowns, 6 consecutive 10+ seasons, but its their last 4 seasons which cause them to be left out of the serious discussion (at least buford and even charlton county are still dominating consistently)

as for the other 3 (lowndes, NHS & camden) since 2001 non playoff schedules disregarding regional opponents because each had to play the region they were dealt (advantage camden weak region ; }, advantage NHS 4 years in 4A with a 4A region schedule)

lowndes – out of state = none, playing up = NA, playing down = 16 (8x ware county, 1x thomas central county both 4A powers, 6x against 3A doormats)

NHS – out of state = one (Washington, Miami, FL), playing up = 4 (wr and houston 2x each), playing down = 10 (4A – 2x, 3A – 8x)

camden – out of state = six (Hoover AL – 2x, Aiken SC 2x, Columbia FL – 1x, First Coast FL – 1x), playing up = NA, playing down = 2 (charlton county 2x)

before anyone asks I did not include playoffs (real advantage none)
Lowndes regional champs – 6x/ 2nd – 2x/ missed playoffs – 1x,
NHS regional champs – 6x(2AAAAA – 2x, 1AAAAA – 1x, 4A – 3x )/ 2nd – 2x (1AAAAA 1x & 2AAAAA 1x), missed playoffs – 0x
camden regional champs – 9x (but remember weak region)/ missed playoffs – 0x,

just food for thought
