@btown beatdown – the Powerade Challenge is an invitation game played AT NORTH GWINNETT HS. James F. Byrnes came FROM SC to play a GA team, and Prattville came from ALA to play. Buford could have stepped up to the plate in its own backyard but didn’t. Know what you’re talking about when you try to run others down.
Could Buford have handled Byrnes? Probably, but we’ll never know. They sure handled Grovetown, though, JACKASS.

@ GO UG – stupid? I don’t think do. Remember the PAT after G’ville’s first TD was blocked. The 2-point call took a pair of big brass ones. Personally, I would have spread the field and run it, but it obviously wasn’t my call. This was a GREAT HS game.

When did the Georgia High School Association do away with the rule that if two teams finish regulation tied in the championship game they are co-state champions?

@Btown – I never mentioned my school, but for the record. the Hurricanes are 0-20 in the past two seasons under a coach that no one wants but apparently don’t care enough to push him out. However, I wasn’t talking about Monroe Area. We were discussing Buford. Personally, I have a lot of respect for the Wolves, since you didn’t ask, but some of the complaints posted here are worth discussing. If you can’t stand the heat, get off the blog and go back to your crotcheting, jackass………………….

You’re right GO UG!, that was a stupid call by the Red Elephants coach. He must have been watching the Savannah Christian coach in the previous (Class A) game make stupid calls for his offense, with the same result. Unbelievable.

Back to my earlier question…where in the hell did GPB come up with this crew of morons calling the title games? Their play-by-play reminds me of some really pathetic small town PA guys I’ve heard over the years……damn sad that GPB couldn’t come up with a competent crew to do these games. The 10 best teams in the state deserve better. Period.

Congrats to both the Peach Co. Trojans and the Gainesville Red Elephants. Looking at the game, it seemed like a David vs. Goliath with the relatively smaller Peach Co. squad finding a way to win with heart and effort.
By the way, recruiting players has no place in Georgia H.S. football. Let the ‘Super’ teams in Texas, California, and Ohio. Great to see the team with locally developed talent win the title.

The announcers you’re hearing call the games in the Dome are pretty much the same ones they’ve used for the past 10 years.

I think the tie rule was changed after the 07 season, because of 2 different class titles ending in a tie.

I wonder if Gainesville coach Bruce Miller thought the old GHSA rule was in effect and, if they had kicked the PAT to tie the game, they would have been co-champs with Peach County. Has anyone asked coach Miller that question?

I didn’t get to watch much of the G’ville/Peach County game, so no comment on the announcers, but those two announcers for the Class A game were Class A morons.

Nick Marshall leds his fellow classmates and team to a state championship….will the D1 schools take a look at this small school athlete and offer him a scholarship(s)? What about Outlaw? This is a team effort, so recruits need to look at the whole package (team)….GO BIG BLUE!!!!! Wilcox County residents are proud of their football team.

If Marshall is as good as he looks, it doesn’t matter if he’s from a small town. Georgia signed Washaun Ealey from tiny Emanuel County Institute.

Let me get this right, one works really hard all season to attain a perfect 14-0 record coming into the dome for the right to play in the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP game. Gainesville is losing the entire game and then catches a huge break with virtually no time on the clock and scores. I completely understand the adrenaline is flowing and Gainesville wanted to take home a win, I don’t blame them. The safe bet would be to kick for the tie. Now I understand they botched one earlier but if they botch another one NO ONE is going to blame the coach, he did what he was supposed to do. Now everyone is going to criticize and second guess him. . If they complete the two then the Coach is a hero now he is a ZERO!

What a game! I expected more from Gainesville both on the field and in their coaching. Their coaching strategy was QB run left/right/middle, quick screen pass, and a deep ball every 5th play. The players looked like they were waiting for the other team to roll over at the mere sight of seeing all of that D-I talent. Especially not impressed with their QB as a QB. He may be a decent slot WR at the next level, though.
Peach County may be the best team in the state this year. Not much college talent, but they play great as a team. I’d love to see them play Buford and some of our Atlanta schools over the next few years.
