Camden Saint; this should be a great game regardless of who win; the Packers can now get the respect it deserves of being back on top of the elite in our region classification & going this far when people wrote us off early; but I am greatful to see that comment that others are bashing each other over something that should be cherish from both team because their is no loser on either team and that is what everyone has forgot about; so shame on Colquitt Fans and Camden Fans for bad comments that is a disgrace for both teams. THanks

Buford was given 500 tickets for pre-game sales. I expect about 700 people from Buford to attend the game. There should be plenty of space for anyone wanting to see this game.

The coin toss to determine home team has got to go. Not only is it “sissified” but it is out of date and pathetic, in such a hard-hitting sport as football. It should be used only as the final option in a tie-breaker. Records and stats should determine home team first, then if absolutely necessary go to a coin toss. That is just too arbitrary, just like in the NFL OT games where they use the coin toss. Many teams lose never having even touched the ball. Only “wimps” settle things this way !!

I tried to explain this advantage to the Camden supports all week and finally got a few (the real football minds) to admit to this advantage. Herron is a great coach but what other great coach would not kill for this job with kind of advantage. To have reclassification makes no sense if this can continue to happen. Where is the competitive spirit of having like enrollment schools competing against each other.

again camden is placed in a weak region. so what is going to happen for the next two years? #1 camden goes undefeated in there region. #2 no injuries to starters. #3 first round seed for the next two years. #4 home filed advantage.#5 no traveling until maybe the semi finals. all of the other regions had big changes except for them and region #1. what were they thinking.

Tipp Smooth- Love Camden attend every game but I know I would much rather go to a game against Valdosta, Lowndes, Colquitt than games against Beach, Groves or Johnson. Them being in region 1 is more of a selfish wish for me personally than anything else, just to see better quality games! Now as for this season I said before that I have been watching this team for a while now and don’t remember a season where they are more improved from game 1 to game 13.

Randy Prosen, that article you wrote in the paper was the truth. I hope the crowd is larger than the Lowndes game, but that will be difficult to do. I’ve omly missed 2 games since the 2003 Championship year. And thats the last game my mother went to, even she is going tommorrow.

Sandy Creek have not faced a defense like the Griffin Bears. Awesome Defense, Great offense and overall a well coached unit. Definitely worth the price of admission. Good luck to all the teams that have made it to the state semi-finals.

This how Camden County porgram got built into a power house it is today.

It’s all about strategy when it comes to scheduling look at UGA’s schedule vs Florida schedule. If you schedule to many tough teams outside your conference early on it can be problematic. Florida took Miami off their schedule for that reason.

If Camden had moved to 1-AAAAA they would schedule just like the other teams. You get three non-region games. First game is a cup cake. Second game a tough opponent. Now a great coach can find his glaring weakness. The third game another cup cake or mid level program. This allow a great coach to see the adjustments.

Camden has used this formula in region 3-AAAAA. But there weak region allows the coach to continue to develop young players and stay away from major injuries. This is the main reason they can win on the road.

Player development for depth and no major injuries is the key using live game situations.

But unlike say Valdosta,Lowndes,Colquitt,NSWR and WR (1-AAAAA) or Peach County, Baldwin, Carver Colombus (1-AAA)who has to deal with a tough region schedule and major injuries and cannot rely on a weak region schedule to develop experience back up during the season. Give any great coach the ability to play freshman and sophmores a half game every game and watch the results. Take any of these programs and give them Camden’s 3-AAAAA schedule and watch the results. They can not schedule no more than one tough opponent outside their region. Check all the above teams non-region schedule and you will see what I just said.

NSWR removed Peach County from their schedule for this reason when they went to 1-AAAAA.

Robert Davis did this when he left Warner Robins and went to Westside Macon and that program.

Buzzbee removed Screven County and Swainsboro tough AA teams from Statesboro schedule to build up that program when he arrived.

When I was in the military I was stationed at at Moody AFB in Valdosta, Warner Robins AFB, Texas, Florida. I was raised in Statesboro Ga. I now live in Metro Atlanta. I have seen great High School football.

To win State you need plenty of depth and no key injuries.

I read these blogs from pre-season to post-season and its always the same thing. Camden does not play anybody. Camden has a weak regular season schedule. I ask, can we get any love. All we do is produce in the post season year in and year out. AJC rarely gives us coverage, but we continue to put GA football on the national stage. Camden will win this Friday night and they will repeat as Champions. I like the fact that no one respects us. For my own selfish reasons I would have liked to be placed in Region1, but I will take what they give me. I wish the Packers safe travel to Chris Gilman. I will be among you on the visitors/home side. GO CATS GO!!!!!! You will hear me Friday Night!

All comunities need something to bring them closer together and high school sports is great tools to do it. Count your blessing the Savannah schools needs the same thing and you both benefit from a unfair competitive advantage to develop talent via a loop hole in the GHSA rules. Other programs have to built their programs the old fashion way not via loop holes.

I am a fan of the Pack, and I agree that Camden plays in a weak Region and probably would not go undefeated in Region 1-AAAAA, but they make it fairly deep into the playoffs every year…The only thing that sucks is that our #2 seed has to play them every year and neither team normally deserves to be eliminated that early in the playoffs…

Camden’s weak region schedule allows them to be too well rested. There are some games where the first string doesn’t play a full half. I can remember one game where we were up 35-0 in the first quater and no one on the first string saw the field in the 2nd quarter.

How is a team supposed to stay game sharp when they never play more than 2 1/2 quarters of ball? How are they supposed to respond in close games when all they’ve ever done is blow people out? How do you learn how to play better when you win by over 50 and shut your opponents out? There’s nothing to learn from those kinds of games! Do our reserves get valuable game time experience? Half the time they’d be just as well off playing the JV teams from Brunswick, GA, Ware County, Fernandina Beach etc.

The truth is playing in a weak region provides as many competative disadvantages as advantages.

georgia’s region 3 in its largest classification has essentially been the same for the last 25 plus years, the savannah schools playing up and any other schools along the I-95 coast including camden county. there was never any complaints about its makeup, for most of it, in truth other regions looked forward to realignments in hopes of being paired with the region in the first round (4 easy 1st rd wins ; }. even in 1999 when brunswick (14-1) made a run to the finals (lost to lowndes 17-0) there were no complaints, 2002 camden county (13-1) to the semi’s (lost to brookwood 24-23) there were still no complaints, why because any team even a poor region 3 team could get lucky right!! even in 2003 camden county (15-0) wins it all yet there were no complaints, no calls or outcries to place all the strongest southern programs in one single region. 2004 camden county (13-1) back in the semi’s (lost to eventual state champs lowndes 30-0) still no complaints because the football order had been restored, the fluky run of the poor little region 3 teams must be over right? wrong!!

only the real football people around the state realize that the state football landscape had changed for the foreseeable future(since 2002 6 semi’s, 2 state titles and counting…). finally someone (jeff herron just off a state championship at oconcee in 1999) had come into the region and changed the mindset of a school and a community that talent and fan support at games alone was not enough, you needed the facilities available at the other georgia power programs. now let’s fast forward to ‘07, ‘08 and ‘09 and everyone including you whiners (todd holcomb that includes you) rant and rave about how that poor region 3 team is not playing fair because it was not losing in the 1st or 2nd rounds per the script any longer ; (

and as for this new realignment now that region 1 (the sec of georgia high school football) will have only 5 teams (two legit programs,one playing up and living off past glories, valdosta, two programs that have seen better days tift & coffe, while losing two of the better programs in the state NHS & WR along with houston are moving down), that means lowndes and a rejuvenated colquitt now have a even shorter noncompetitive region schedule than camden county so let the real whining begin!!

I am a Camden alumni and fan and I quit going to the region games due to the total lack of a football game! It is not worth the ticket price and traffic woes. I listen to the 1st quarter on the radio and wait for the playoffs. I agree that our region stinks and therefore I don’t give them my money when it is not entertaining to me. After all isn’t that why we go to the games, to be entertained? If those Savannah schools did not play up, I wonder what GHSA would do. I just laugh when I hear someone who is totally uninformned say “Camden has won 9 straight region titles!” Like it really means something!!

Did you see Paesine post. What mistermak is saying the strategy has been set. His assistant coaches at this point can run the program using the same formula. No one is saying Coach Herron is not a great coach. We are saying were is the competition GHSA is seeking for region play.

Answer me this, do Camden have a rivalry game (ex. Valdosta vs Lowndes, WR VS NSWR, Brookwood vs Parkview) were the records go out the window and this about region bragging rights? Look at what happen to NSWR vs WR this year. There were more fans at these games than any playoff game.

This is what makes for great football. Not blow outs by the 1st quarter.

You are right my friend. I agree with you 100%. That is exactly how Camden County manage to do this. Bradwell Institute could be the same way. (They use to be) But they lost two great coaches, ( one to retirement and the other went to another school) and now hired a former coach from Savannah’s Johnson High School whom EVERYONE knows that this Coach is an underachiever. This Coach didn’t do well at Johnson, yet the School Board saw fit to hired him.No one is putting the pressure on this coach to great positive results or be fired. They are all right now talking under their breath. I really wish the day that I had the power, and authroity to fire this man. He would have been gone a long time ago. Not on the streets without a job. He is a License School teacher who happens to be the Athletic Director, and Head Football Coach. But he would not be coaching anymore. Allow him to teach Health, PE, or something like that. But no coaching whatsoever. Bradwell Institute has had losses prior to this coach but nothing like this, and Camden County wins streak against Bradwell Institute was NEVER like this prior to this Coach arriving here. We use to beat Camden County back then. Even the lossess that Bradwell got against great teams were never huge blowouts or shutouts prior to this coach arriving here. I believe that Bradwell Institute use to lead the series in wins when playing against Camden County prior to this coach arriving. The program is mediocre, and the players that they have now are not responding to this coaches leadership. The dominance of the football program is now beginning to shift from Bradwell Institute to the County High School. (Liberty County High school) Now Bradwell Institute can’t even win against a soft schedule of the Savannah Schools. A 6-4 record is totally unacceptable when you are playing against schools of such soft caliber. I commend Coach Jeff Herron on his philosophies. He is credited for giving Camden County National Prominence.

My point in defending Region 3-AAAAA was not about who was winning the State Titles but how much successful besides football the Savannah Schools are in other sports.

That’s basically what i was getting at. As the almost the entire region is made up of savannah schools. I was also speaking as if that team was to take the place of camden and not including them in that as any of the smaller schools shouldn’t be able to beat a AAAAA power.

On another note. I am glad to report that the Jacksonville sports radio stations are finally starting to recognize camden. We were getting some love during their “Friday Night Lights” update this afternoon. This is only the 3rd time i’ve heard them mentioned (others being vs. Lowndes where they only mentioned the expected crowd size to be 25,000, and vs. First Coast which is a Jax school). I, admittedly, know very little about colquitt county, but they were getting a lot of love during the break down of tonight’s game.

Colquitt County Underdog – Lassiter was overrated just like N. Gwinnett and I believe most of the bloggers had picked you guys to win that game anyways. So stop talking about being favored or not, that craps does not matter in the 3rd rounds plus in the playoffs. Exactly what would the GHSA have done if the Savannah schools had decided not to play up? Where would the other AAAAA region have come from?

There are not enough teams in AAAAA for 8 regions. The Savannah schools sort of solved the problem, but Region 1 is left with just 5 teams, which means the No. 4 team in that region can go to state with exactly 1 region victory.

Just about all of the metro Atlanta AAAAA regions could use another team or 2, and at least 2 of those regions are going to have a few extremely weak playoff teams next year, and likely in the immediate future.

The artificial number picked out of a hat by the GHSA to determine which teams should play in AAAAA or AAAA should have been lowered enough to keep the Warner Robins schools, Chattahoochee and a few of the east Cobb schools, among others, in AAAAA.

Chattahoochee is bailing on all its local rivals to play in what should be a very weak AAAA region. Hope the wins are worth the extra travel and loss of revenue/local rivals.

And given how well they’ve competed at the AAAAA level, Warner Robins & Northside WR should clean up in AAAA. Good for them. Also for Charlton County in Class A. As Al Davis says, “Just win, baby.”

Considering how well the Savannah teams traditionally fare in the AAAAA playoffs, it would be fitting if the GHSA limited that region to 2 teams in the playoffs (give the Region 1 & 2 champs a first round bye). Also, make Camden play on the road any time it faced a fellow region champion instead of having a 50-50 shot at a home game thanks to essentially being handed a region title.

Not knocking Camden’s great program, but even the school’s supporters have to admit that their team’s road to the playoffs is a whole lot smoother than anyone else in AAAAA. Taking away the coin flip would be a small measure to account for that, but we all know the GHSA would never do that. Or limiting Region 3’s playoff teams.

Apart from the teams in Region 2, I imagine there are a whole lot of AAAAA coaches in metro Atlanta and south Georgia (and coaches of several former AAAAA teams as well) who are having a difficult time wiping the smiles off their faces after getting a first glimpse at the realigned regions.

Bradwell Institute did very well in the 80’s and early 90’s. Back then the highest Classification was AAAA.

SportsFan31313 – I am a Camden grad ‘97′ and I agree with you about football and how weak the region is. Bradwell just had an off year, there has been times when that game between them would decide the region champs. You guys will be back.

The rest of the sports, except Basketball is up for grabs every year the region. Camden plays good Baseball, girls Softball etc..

Yes Brunswick has done that in Class AAAA. But next season, the competition will be a lot tougher for Brunswick. Take a look at the new Region of 2-AAAA. Read the comment below very carefully:

With that being said, Liberty County High School Panthers Head Football Coach, Coach Kirk Warner has increased the level of competition, playing against some very good football programs. The Panthers had a good season this year in what I believe to be the toughest Region of this Classification in the state (Region 3-AAA). This will make the Panthers Sports Program even stronger. The Panthers will face in their Sub Region, a very good Ware County Football Team, and Brunswick Football Team. Brunswick, the2009-2010 Region 2-AAAA Region Champions overall football record for the season was 8-3 in addition to making it to the 2nd round of the post season playoffs, losing to North Clayton. Ware County2009-2010 Region 2-AAAA 2nd runner up overall football record was 6-6, and they too made it to the 2nd round of the post season playoffs losing to Class AAAA Perennial Power Griffin.

In Region 2-AAAA as a whole, you have three Augusta area Schools. The three Schools that are out of Evans, Georgia are the 2009-2010 Region 3-AAAA Champions Lakeside Evans, who finished the 2009-2010 season 10-1 but losing in the first round to Westside Macon. You have 2nd runner up Evans High School who finish the 2009-2010 season with an overall record of 8-3 losing in the first round of the post season playoffs to Ware County, and you also have former Region 2-AAAAA Greenbrier High School that dropped down to Region 2-AAAA that will make itself known in this Region. Lets not forget about the Statesboro Blue Devils who will be coming off a rebuilding season, that is known to be a very good football team, and is also known for their winning tradition. Then you have the remaining Schools that will make up Region 2-AAAA. That is Effingham County, South Effingham County, Wayne County, Richmond Hill, and Glynn Academy. Let it be known that this will be a very exciting2010-2011 Football Season as the teams in this region will playing these games in the front of capacity crowds.

If I’m not mistaken, next year Liberty County High School will be playing in one of the two Divisions, (Division A) where there will be a Sub Region Champion. The winner (Sub Regions Champions) out of the two Divisions, (Division A and Division B) will play against each other in the Region Finals, where the winner in the Regional Finals will become the Region Champions, and Represent Region 2-AAAA as the number one seed in the post season playoffs. So there you have it. Region 2-AAAA is loaded with talent, and some very good football programs. It seems to me that we are beginning to see “A Shift In Football Dominance From Bradwell Institute to Liberty County High School”. Let me know what you think about Liberty County High School New Realignment, and Classification.

WAQ – I understand your point as well, but I also believe that if Camden was in a different region they still would be good and still make the playoffs. Camden has always had the talent but not the coaching staff they have now. Coaching and off season conditioning plays in an important role in developing young kids for a program and Coach Herron has manage to do that and win the trust in the kids and community.

sportsfan 31313 well i read that bradwell beat camden alot well i dont remember that not in my day at all we use to dominate tht region back in the day we one the region our first yr in it. camden has always had good programs just poor coaching if we had the coaches we they have now back in the 90′S we would of been winning state championships. anybody from camden knows that they dont have the atheletes they use to have. but im proud of my boys and enjoy watching them play.

Best game in the state tonight will be Sandy Creek vs. Griffin. Both teams have explosive offenses, great defenses, and good special teams. Both teams have multiple D1 prospects who have committed. I think the most interesting thing that could come out of this weekend would be the possibility of a NWR vs Camden playoff rematch in the dome for the state’s highest classification. WAC Just because Camden plays in a weak region does not exempt us from injuries! Last year we lost three starters on defense and one on offense by the middle of the season. Our best running back got hurt near the end of the game against NSWR and only played a couple of downs the rest of the way. Most teams cannot overcome the loss of this many players and still win the championship. The year before that we lost at least three starters with knee injuries. Injuries are something that happens regardless the level of competition. God has blessed us this year. I can think of only one or two players that have missed a couple of games due to injury. Other than that, I agree that we have an ideal situation here at Camden County. If the choice was mine I would put our team in region 1-AAAAA. I would rather see a game each week like we just had against Lowndes compared to what we have. A couple of losses early this year has really made this team better. I think a loss here and there helps prepare a young man better for life anyway. Oh well, it is what it is for now.

My dad (AVikingFan) had open heart double bypass yesterday but is doing well and recovering. We will be sitting in his hospital room listening to the Hogs & Cats tonight. Cougars Everywhere: The Eagle Nation is officially about to converge upon the Cougar Den. I have comfirmation that the bus system that you will know as the Eagle Nation has left Warner Robins.

It appears that the clown Katt Williams is fighting residents in a Newnan Wal-Mart. That tells me that tensions are high for the average resident in Newnan. It tells me that girls’ basketball season is upon the good people of Newnan.

FITZ/BUFORD: Looks like the last to have the ball may win….fitzgerald is moving the ball at will ( perhaps better than Buford), but a turnover on the 1 yd line gave Buford the lead just before the half.

To all you nasayers out there…. Northside 20 Newnan 14. Both offenses seem to move the ball well. Looks like the clock will determine the winner here. I graduated from Northside in 81 and live in the Savannah area. GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!

This is Northside’s last chance to take a 5A title since they are going back to 4A. Would love a shot to even the score with the wildcats since they knocked us out last year…..Love the blue N at midfield. Thank you!

Peach Co scored on a 65-yard Patrick Taylor-to-Lamar Zanders pass in the 1st, then Eastside tied it 7-7 in the 2nd on a 9-yard pass from Califf Carnes to Git Aiken. Peach’s Octavious Hall blocked a punt at the Peach 39 late in the half and LeBrandon Johnson returned it 50 yards to put Peach up 14-7 at the half.
