It’s the semifinals of HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS. AJC high schools beat writer Michael Carvell will try to blog live and take your questions about high school football and related topics.
We are here to talk football, football and more football. Going to a game? Take the cellphone or PDA and let us know what’s going on at YOUR game. Got a score update, see a killer play? Keep it clean, and POST IT HERE.
HOT TOPIC: The GHSA has released the 2010-11 region realignments but the bigger news may be a possible return to the old two-year reclassification cycle from the current four-year cycle. Post your thoughts on the two-year cycle vs. four-year cycle (and region changes) RIGHT HERE.

Expecting a capacity crowd at Memorial Stadium tonight for the Griffin-Sandy Creek game so you better get there early. I believe this will be the de facto State Championship game (no disrespect to Clarke Central). Griffin’s superior speed, talent, athleticism and TRADITION will overwhelm the upstart Patriots. In my 30 years of watching Griffin football, this is the best defense and most balance offense we’ve ever had. GO BEARS !!
I’d really like to see Clarke Central win tonight in Athens so we can renew our rivalry at the Dome next week. Go Glads!!
To our neighbors in Newnan – GO COUGARS !! I remember many a road trip to Newnan in the 80s and early 90s watching some good football and basketball games. Griffin’s Lloyd Bohannon and Newnan’s Max Bass were excellent football coaches and had some great teams.
Congratulations to all the teams that have made it the semi-finals. We are blessed to live in a state that is so rich is athletic and coaching talent making Georgia High School Football so special.

Camden and Lowndes was a chess match due to them having the same type offense and similar aggresive defense.

Can’t wait to see some great football tonight. Am a little worried about some of our key players getting banged up in practice this week, but am hoping that the heart of this team will push them to win. Wishing safe travels to Northside Fans. We’ll see you at the Drake. By the way, I’ll be the one screaming my fool head off. GO COUGARS!!!

WAC Just because Camden plays in a weak region does not exempt us from injuries! Last year we lost three starters on defense and one on offense by the middle of the season. Our best running back got hurt near the end of the game against NSWR and only played a couple of downs the rest of the way. Most teams cannot overcome the loss of this many players and still win the championship. The year before that we lost at least three starters with knee injuries. Injuries are something that happens regardless the level of competition. God has blessed us this year. I can think of only one or two players that have missed a couple of games due to injury. Other than that, I agree that we have an ideal situation here at Camden County. If the choice was mine I would put our team in region 1-AAAAA. I would rather see a game each week like we just had against Lowndes compared to what we have. A couple of losses early this year has really made this team better. I think a loss here and there helps prepare a young man better for life anyway. Oh well, it is what it is for now.

Georgia should go to a 16 region system with 2 teams from each making the play-offs. Gives the Camden Countys of the state more non-region games against competitive teams.

Colquitt can win this game. They have seen the wing T 5 times this season and shut it down. There will be no suprises there. Camden must throw the ball to score points. Colquitt has great special teams as does Camden. Camden has a great defense as well. This will be a game of inches and brawn. Either team can win. It will be close. This will be a 7 point game, and hear me now it will be decided late in the fourth quarter. Do not underestimate the Packers.

Add Regions: The Wildcats prove themselves again and again. They play one of the most competitive non-region schedules in the state. Let’s say that they have a weak region. The Wildcats schedule with 7 region games against glorified AAA programs is still more competitive that teams like Lassiter. Camden County played Grayson, who was the top team in the state all season. The Wildcats violated a nationally ranked team from North Gwinnett.

Cougars Everywhere: The Eagle Nation is officially about to converge upon the Cougar Den. I have comfirmation that the bus system that you will know as the Eagle Nation has left Warner Robins.
It appears that the clown Katt Williams is fighting residents in a Newnan Wal-Mart. That tells me that tensions are high for the average resident in Newnan. It tells me that girls’ basketball season is upon the good people of Newnan.
I am about to leave Midtown and I am so excited to see our beloved Eagles play. IT IS GREAT TO BE A NORTHSIDE EAGLE!!!
Good luck to everyone playing tonight. Travel safely and cheer hard for your team. I will certianly be cheering for the Big Blue.

Northside coming into town talking trash like usual…can’t wait to see the excuses on the blog later tonight..you can’t stop the bite of the Cougars…both defenses are tough…but the problem is going to be turnovers and penalties..whoever makes less is going to be the winner…we are not perfect…but the hometown crowd is going to be load and crazy…so slight advantage to Newnan..hope Northside travels safely to Drake Stadium..and safely HOME….temps are going to drop tonight…so that could be a factor as well…Go Cougars don’t forget nobody respects us…and if we win they still won’t we will just hear about bad calls..that cost them the game..

ENR talking his trash as usual…I am sure we will hear him whining all the way from Drake Stadium tonight..and about how young Northside is..well guess what they may be young but after 13 games they have played enough that youth is not an excuse to use anymore ok…Just accept the fact that they are in for a fight tonight…as Newnan accepts that ok..Just be real for once ENR stop finding reasons that other teams should have beat your team but your Coach is just TOO Good to let it happen..Good Coaches are a piece of the puzzle..but the Coach can’t make them execute those plays ok..it takes good players to do that..and from what I have seen..your Players are good enough to execute the plan ok..it will come down to who gives up the big plays and who turns the ball over more..just like it should be at this time of the year..Go Cougars..but realize Norhtside is no slouch…We Give respect..unlike ENR and his bandwagon of WISHIWASSTILLPLAYING losers…

I wonder if the Newnan Cougars will be whinning about how they lost the game to the bad refs or not getting a first down and the bad calls. The NHS Eagles will admit to a defeat if it happens and it will not be because of bad calls or bad refs. It will be that they did not play up to their potential. We do not talk trash we only speak the truth of what our player can do. Go Big Blue. We will always back our NHS Eagles no if they win or lose.. They will beat the Cougars tonight.

Sorry to have been out of pocket for the past 2 weeks, but due to 2 untimely deaths in the family, my thoughts have been in other places. But getting back to GHSF, I made a statement after Game 1 regarding the Newnan Cougars. Granted, the Cougars lost 11 starters from the 2008 team. But I saw something in this Cougar team that I have only seen once before. That was in the 1983 state title game between LaGrange and Tift County. Like Tift in 1983, this 2009 Newnan team has the same swagger and the same level of confidence along with great coaching. Also the talent to back it up. Coach Conrad Nix may quite possibly be the greatest living GHS football coach. What he has done with Northside is simply amazing. But tonight belongs to the NEWNAN COUGARS. 13-10 Cougars.

Colquitt vs. Camden is a tough one to call. 2 teams that were not supposed to be here. Camden has been here before. Camden wins 27-10.
In 2009 AAAA has been boring, except for Griffin. Take the Bears against ANYONE in AAAA by at least 20.
AAA Peach wins. Gainesville wins. Maybe big. But Coach Shaw is a great one. He may find some weakness in the Gainesville defense. In the FINAL, take Peach over Gainsville by something like 34-24.
AA-Fitzgerald takes care of Buford.
Lovett sneaks by Calhoun.
A-FINAL: (Tough one to call.) If history repeats itself, the private school wins. Savannah Christian over Wilcox or Clinch.
