Demon Fan: I never hated Warner Robins either. The coaches tried to make us hate Warner Robins. At the end of the day, I grew up with those guys and I was not at all sad to see them win State Championships. I remember feeling sorry for those guys at Warner Robins in 1989. ESPN was there. Everyone was running around hugging one another. I remember thinking at that moment that Warner Robins would not be National Champions because we beat them. Part of me was sad. It certainly was not hate.

I bet you the Warner Robins kids were pretty happy to beat Northside though. We needed it. I honestly believe that we would not have reached the State Championship without losing to Warner Robins. The week before we played terrible against Tift County. Our kids were not focused. Losing to the Big Red made our kids reevaluate themselves. It was a blessing in disguise. Losing to the Demons never seems producitve, but is was. :-)

I’ll have to admit that it was very easy to HATE Warner Robins when Fat Rabbit was waddling around on the sidelines. I wonder if he got to write off all of the payments he gave to refs? He was good, though.

Great game Camden. Class act fans and team. You guys will beat Northside by at least 2 touchdowns. Too bad we didn’t get another shot at them. Next year will be a great year in Moultrie. Good luck in the dome. GO WILDCATS!!

I left my office on Peachtree at approximately 5:15 -5:30 pm. I saw your post by scrolling through the site. It is very easy. I drove down I-85, took exit 47, turned right, drove through downtown, saw some nice lights (I believe at a place called the Male Academy), drove through downtown. I was there early. I stopped for some coffee just down the block from a movie theater and the Courthouse.

I was not on the site because I was at the game. You are the first person that I have ever seen on this site call out a person after his team lost. Look at the 1st through 3rd of 4th page on this blog. I NEVER disrespected Newnan. I find it disappointing that you attempt to paint it that way.

Unlike you, I could not tell you what was going to happen. I thought that the odds were stacked against my Eagles. I am still going to support Northside, just like I am going to support the Georgia Bulldogs, just like I am going to support the Atlanta Falcons.

If you do not like the manner that I do so, too bad. I am not going to sit idle as you totally misrepresent what I say. I said nothing bad about Newnan prior to this game because anyone on this site knows that I go with the home team unless the visiting team is from South of the Gnat line facing a metro Atlanta opponent. I believe in home field advantage. I have said it for years.

I NEVER said anything bad about Greg Reid. I just believe that you are bitter because you know that you and the Cougar fans gave up on your football team. I find it pathetic. I can not stand front-running fans. Northside has our fair share of them. They bash Coach Nix one day and sing his praises the next. You should have heard the Briar Van Brunt bashing going on at Drake Stadium on the visitors’ side in the first quarter. Then, he was great!

I like “true” fans. The least you Cougar fans could have done is stay and give the guys a standing ovation or something. They went 13-1. They are one of the best teams in school history. At least send them off before a full house. That is my opinion. You do not have to agree. Obviously most Newnan fans do not. This Newnan team played their last down before a home stadning with more Northside fans. Sad and pathetic.

Of course, you guys had a crystal ball at halftime and just KNEW that the top defense in the state of Georgia would not hold up. Interesting.

I was in high school in 1989. I don’t even remember ESPN being there. I remember the BBC recording a documentary, and being named a National Blue Ribbon school. That’s about it. I was a little nerdy. I love my Demons, but I just don’t remember many games.

I’m always excited to have a successful team in the city. The kids work so hard. I cheer for NHS when they’re not playing my Demons. I’ll be there Saturday.

CougFan88: If Northside loses by 50 points on Saturday, I would hope that Northside fans have the decency to sit there in the Georgia Dome and watch our Eagles get our butts kicked and then on the final play of the game give our Eagles a roaring send off for the season. There have been 4 previous Northside teams to reach the State Championship. Two have won the State Championship. Two have lost in the State Championship game. All 4 are special. This team is special.

This Newnan team was special. They deserve better than CougFan88’s and Drake Stadium hitting the gates. It was 4 or 5 minutes left in the game. To their credit, Newnan kept fighting and scored to close the game to 29-24. They deserved that stadium to be packed until the very end, because they were special.

Front-running fans don’t deserve a State Champion!

back in those days it was Nside fans who were watching basketball games this time of year. Never did care too much for that round ball on the south side of Watson Boulevard during football playoff time. Normally, the Demons had 2 or 3 games left to play. Still lead overall series and number of region and state and national championships by alot!

I would have loved for the Demons to reach the playoffs. Like the team from Moultrie, I am certain that the Demons would have made some noise in the State Playoffs. That Valdosta game killed them. Theyhad Valdosta and just gave it away.

Chris Fowler was on the sidelines of then International City Stadium with a show called Scholastic Sports America. Yes, the same Chris Fowler who is on ESPN’s College GameDay. He went to both high schools and interviewed students. I was one of the class presidents and was asked about what the Northside vs. Warner Robins game means. ESPN was there.

wow you’d think this was a site for a bunch of 17 year old high school juinors…..how many of you people have kids who are in these HS? its not that big of a deal to bring our personal insults over a HIGH SCHOOL playoff game, I played 2001-2005 and yes my team is reaching the finals for the first time ever (and first in Savannah in 40 years) but I commend every HS athlete who goes out on the field and gives it his all regardless of the result, anyone who wishes poor performance upon a bunch of 15-18 year olds seriously needs to reconsider their perspective on HS sports

SLO56: We have now passed the Big Red in overall winning percentage and playoff wins. Of course, the latter has much more to do with the extended state playoff format that the GHSA has now. All of those years when programs like Warner Robins were rolling through the then regional playoffs, the state playoffs format started in the quarterfinals.

Jordan: I have sat in an arena during the state playoffs in Savannah, GA. If you are going to pretend that the intensity in Savannah during the boys’ basketball playoffs is any less than the intensity that we have for footbal in the remaining football hotbeds, I am going to have to call your bluff dude.

Of course, people are not as intense about football. Basketball is an entirely different story. With the exception of a few places in this state (arguably Albany and definitely Gainesville), people are extremely intense over boys’ basketball. Let’s not pretend that Savannah is this bastion of people who are all about the good of the game and the happiness of the children. I know better. Go to a Savannah HS vs. Beach HS game. It is REAL INTENSE. Come on Jordan!

ENR, well well well! You have got to be the most arrogant and classless high school “FAN” I have ever seen. Northside played a good game. Your QB was your offense (no disrespect meant) it is fact. You claim that to be the weakest defense in years? Give me a break. If that were the case I would assume Northside has not scored 29 points in a game in years as well. I admit Newnan did not play well at all. Besides the play of the QB the Northside team did not impress me at all. Any way you cut it the Northside Eagles gave up 24 points tonight! Whether it was offense, defense, or special teams it doesn’t matter it’s still 24! Instead of figuring out a way to not be wrong why don’t you put your big mouth and ego aside and face it, they surrendered 24. 29-24 and in a game that could easily have gone either way even with Newnan playing poorly. I’m sure you realize had Newnan punted before the half and pinned you deep Newnan would be up 14-13. And if I count correctly NS scored 9 points in the second half and Newnan scored 10 so that comes to 24-22 and your season would be over. Admit that! Poor decision by the Newnan coaching and prob cost them the game. So when you mention “dominated” just remember you escaped with a win. Nonetheless it’s a win. But to dominate you must do what the Cougars did at the MAC in ‘03. Congrats on a narrow victory. Good luck with Camden. If this year is like last, and they are as good, I don’t see them being beat.

I doubt this will get any discussion as I expect the blog to be shut down later in the morning when the AJC folks read some of the stuff going back and forth.

I did not get to see any of the games tonight and only one from last week but after rolling up the pants legs and wading through the stink on the blog I pulled a couple of interting points out. It seems last week, PTR played not to loose in the second half. It sounds like Newnan played to win (if I have it right) and elected to go for it on a forth and one or similar short yardage. Who was right? Both strategies worked against them. It made me crazy at times this year for Grayson to go for it as often as they did but when they inteviewed Coach Conn his answer was that he had confidence that the offense could get the one or two yards necessary.

How do you feel about playing to win or playing not to loose? Thoughts and comments before we get shut down are appreciated!
