We're shutting down commenting on this board since it's unfortunately gotten too off track with regard to football talk and more in the vein of personal attacks.

We'll decide whether to launch our regular Thursday board for the weekend going into semifinals as the week goes on. This decision will be based on whether AJC Sports thinks you can return to this board and comment on the football action at hand without personally attacking each other for differing opinions. If we can't even bring the board back for semis, we may not create one at all for finals. All of these decisions hinge on how you conduct yourselves on this and our other HS boards, so keep that in mind when posting.

It's been a great season on this board and we'd hate to see it end on this sort of note.

We hope to post the semis board on Thursday, but it's up to you. If we bring the board back Thursday and start seeing comments that personally target others, we'll simply shut down the board for the weekend and, again, perhaps for the season. Don't make us do that.

If we opt to post the board for semifinals, it will likely go up just after midnight Thursday and will show up in the "Latest Headlines" area on the High School Sports page.

Thank you.

ok here is what happened to the mighty Carver Tigers Friday night in Columbus. CONNER SHAW. Yep. he beat carver all by himself. it was amazing. now we have to deal with him at South Carolina for four years. Spurrier now has the QB he has been looking for. Lookout SEC.And Slalom, no bad calls to speak of by the refs. Flowery Branch just did what they had to do and looked like Carver was not ready for an obvious onside kick that FB recovered and then drove and won the game.congratulatons to the whole Shaw family for job well done. all my teams are out now, Carver, Lagrange, Troup etal. Gainesville to win AAA just like we all thought back in June when we were wishing it was September. Now its almost over. Here is one more vote for Semis in the Dome.

GRAYRAM , THE PLAY BEFORE THE MISSED 52 YARDS FIELD GOAL COST GRAYSON THE GAME, BEACAUSE THE RB LOST 5 YARDS. THE COACH SHOULD HAVE KEPT THE BALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD AND RAN WILLIAMS OR PEMBERTON OFF TACKLE. THE KICK WAS ALITTLE SHORT, BECAUSE THE PLAY BEFORE THE COACH RAN A SWEEP AND LOST 5 YARDS.

Sanityrules I was responding to a Newnan fan that said you shut Mack brown down along with Pemberton from Grayson. You might have still beat Mlk with Mack but you would have definely got to see a special running back . I'm just going on what I have seen in the playoffs he would have made a lot of difference in a high school game where there are only a few players on every team that have the ability to dominate . Alec is a stud athelete who can make plays . Do you think newnan would be going to the semifinals without him. Every one has their opinion about every game u can't tell me what I say is irrevalent I know more football than u could dream about knowing. Sorry For mispelling newnan my text was automatically putting a m in place of the n . I should have checked.

Lol Haiku...true that bout them Cougars...man they are great his year. I think the Mighty Bears could probably hang with a lot of AAAAA teams, but I dont know If they want to wrangle with any of those Coweta Cats this year...We have our hands full coming up with another "neighbor" in Sandy Creek. Much respect for those patriots, congrats on a fine season. We will bring a HUGE crowd so get ready for it. I think its going to be a good one.

Confusion on my mind in Georgia

The topsy-turvy year in Georgia continued this weekend when No. 9 Grayson was upset by No. 51 Newnan, 9-7.

At least that game was close. No. 29 North Gwinnett was overrun by No. 56 Camden County, 35-0.

No. 81 Lassiter also had a tough day, falling to unranked Colquitt County, 46-17.

The new state rankings - and don't forget, Lowndes fell in the previous round - should be interesting.

Newnan stands tall in Midwest GA. It's funny that despite the success in recent years in 5A division, Nobody wants to claim this great program. Big teams to the North: "They don't want IT!" Big teams to the South: "They don't want IT!" Looking forward to Next week with NSWR. Then the following week in the Dome...Because WE want IT!

Reeze,

I don't know that I can totally agree that Newnan hasn't brought their offense. At least in our game, they showed a lot of heart and very good playing against Grayson. Grayson's defense had to work very hard to contain them. I cannot speak about NSWR as I have not seen them.

slalom1,

Sorry to hear about your family. It is doubly tough to experience that kind of loss at the holidays - I know from personal experience. With all due respect to the very good Newnan players, no Alec Ogletree, no win over Grayson. Your quarterback and other running backs were "hosses" but we appeared to have them contained reasonably well. Alec had some size mismatches that favored him but I have to say he is what everyone has said about him. That one handed catch was stunning. I have told people that it looked like his hand was a good 5 feet about the Grayson defender's helmet! Amazing! It seemed as though his name and number was called on almost every defensive stop as well. That was probably the best football game I have seen in years and Newnan did what had to be done to win. Grayson was a "team on a mission" as well and I have to believe NSWR will bring it as well. Good luck next week and at least this Grayson fan will be rooting for you! Hope to see you in the Dome this year. Grayson plans on being there in 2010. :)

Forgot to mention

I talked to several Newnan Fans and even a few players Friday night.
All were just as friendly and fun to talk with after they won as they were when when Grayson was up 7-3. Great crowd!!

Good luck against the JV next week

Bart Sibrel:

Still here. Offically a Newnan Cougar fan now.
The Grayson Newnan game was just as expected and the Rams have nothing to be ashamed of. They palyed a great Newnan team and lost at the end on a play by probably the states best player.

Never a surprise for Camden to win and and Lassiter was apparently in over their head.

The only real surprise was Pridge losing to the JV boys from Macon. I wish Grayson would have got the chance to play one of the overrated 1AAAAA teams again but it was not to happen.

Those of you who think Warner Robins or Newnan are in South Ga please don't help your kids with their homework.

Sanity Valdosta has won for sure. So has Colquitt County. We could lose every game we play for the next 28 years and still have a winning record. So we have a winning history as well. :-)

Just wondering does the reason for moving the Dome games to the finals have anything to do with the fact that they hold the SEC championship game on the same weekend as the Semi's?

Sounds fun wildcat fan. We are loud as well. We do NOT belittle the other team or their fans. I am sure your team is the same. Seems like all of the south georgia programs respect each other because of the winning history. I think we will have a great game next week. I don't think the winner will win by more than 10 points or so. Win or lose, I am rooting for the winner in the Finals. Go Pack Go!!!

Packer Fans I do sit on the Visitors side because the home side is allways packed, so please bring a very large crowd. I do get loud, but I do it in a very respectful way. So lets have some fun and may the best team win. Camden has never hosted a semi-finals or finals, so I expect the whole County to pumped for this one, people who never attend games are coming out for this one.

ENR - Previous post wasn't me.

I have a great deal of respect and admiration for Coach Nix. There is nothing more I would like to see than Northside win another State Championship in football. More than a great coach, he is a man of God. That is what I respect even more.

Sorry you have to hear people question him at games and stuff. That is not my style. I disagreed with a choice he made. I thought this blog was about discussing things like that. I didn't call Coach NIx or Devon out. I just thought it was a mistake, evidenced by the missed field goal, that fortunately did not cost Northside the game. I have never stated my athletic or other exploits from HS on this blog because they are irrelevant. I would prefer to communicate privately with you. The offer still stands.

Looking forward to seeing how Northside stands up to Newnan. Go Eagles!

Good teams always find a way to win! I have a lot of respect for Conrad Nix. Having said that, Conrad didn't do much when I went to high school. He was coach at Northside in the middle 70's. We constantly got slaughtered by the Demons led by Robert Davis. I think that Conrad has been fortunate to have some great talent at Northside the last ten years, He has built a winning tradition at Northside that makes the feeder school player strive harder to play when they get to high school. Then again, Conrad didn't have that much experience coaching in the mid 70's. Today, I think he is one of the best coaches in the state. Good luck to the Eagles and Cougars! May the best team win! It's going to be exciting!!!! GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!

Newnan playing wit a chip on their shoulders, craving revenge on Camden, and Drake Stadium is way too loud. Period. But even louder in the playoffs. Tight one but Newnan is going to the Dome. Strakose gets a sack in the endzone, and Big Tree block another FG. Newnan 15; NSWR 10

Big Red Machine,
The people at Clarke Central don't get into the trash talk, we believe the game will take care of itself on Friday night in Athens. We behave as though we've been here before, in fact, many times. I have
much respect for Rockdale County's program. Congrats on a great season.

Sanity Rules, Drock 09, REEZE, I have been out of pocket for the past 10 days due to 2 tragic deaths in the family, but have still managed to follow scores and results. First of all, VERY proud of the Newnan Cougars. I was not surprised. I have seen some great Cougar football teams in the past who were upset by lesser opponents. But I saw something in this 2009 Newnan team that I have never seen before in Game 1. Yes, Alec Ogletree is absolutely the most dominating skill player I have ever seen in GHS football. But this Newnan team is not just about the Ogletree brothers. The team is loaded with talent, speed and size. Add that along to playing with somewhat of a "chip on the shoulder", and you have a team on a mission.(3 trips to the semi's between 2003 and 2009.) This is the year of the Cougars. REEZE, are you still telling me that 2009 Northside is in a rebuilding mode? LOL! Should be a great game, but betting on the Cougars. Something like 13-10.

I am so sorry, I shouldn\'t have an opinion or event hink for myself. God, please forgive me for questioning a call by the Greatest coach who has ever walked the sideline in Georgia, Conrad Nix. Even though his choice was wrong, due to the fact that the All State kicker missed the field goal attempt, it is my sin that I even question it.

All Hail, ENR! He is the eminent, powerful, omniscient, ARMCHAIR Quarterback for high school football in Georgia and especially the NSWR Eagles! I bow to him! I worship his high school athletic history! I want his knowledge. I want his insight!

I imagine when its time to make the picks this week that Clarke Central will be the favorite over Rockdale. Why? Because they will be playing at home and they defeated the mighty SWD team a week ago that was ranked #2. These Bulldogs like being underdogs, plus as before mentioned, has ALREADY beat CC in Athens earlier this year. The task will be MUCH tougher, with all due respect to CC. I learned a long time ago that its pretty bad to get your tail whip in your OWN yard, muchless get it whipped TWICE in your yard......wow!!!

wildcat fan- great post.. Like I have said before, what did Camden do before Jeff Herron arrived? We were a pretty typical region 3aaaaa team.
Heron comes along gets the players involved, getting more players to sign up, getting the community involved, getting businesss' involved and looked what happen. And look what Coach does off the field with the habitat for humanity and so forth.

SportsFan31313, I respect your opinion but don't see how you came to it. Newnan just beat the #1 ranked team in Ga on the road. Northside really struggled against P-Ridge and by some accounts were lucky to win at home. With all their injuries ,you must think Newnan are pretenders. Then again you might believe all the north-south Ga hype. Remember ,Warner Robin's not far from us.

cane fan and black and gold, before yall go on talkin bout Buford is going to get killed, hold up. sure yall scored 42 on cook, gave up 13 as well. they got 105 total yards on Buford, only 7 on the ground. its going to be a good game, but Buford is deep in depth. better be ready. because Fitz isnt going to demolish Buford, if anything they might come close to winning, but Buford will continue to advance to the dome and get another state championship.

SanityRules,

I have a lot of respect fr Newnan. Through out the season and post season I said newnan is a great football team, and I also stated every game they came against Newnan will win. However; I just don't see them beating Northside Warner Robins. Great season for Newnan though....

I guess this is why, Im a former WILDCAT player and now a huge WILDCAT Fan and not a coach. In games over the past few years, Coach Herron would insert players that wasn't ready to play. They would get into the game the drive would stall or they would fumble the ball. And yes they would finish some drives. Putting in the second and third string running backs or quarterbacks, rotating the linemen in and out. You would not think he does by some of the final scores, but he rotates them alnight, he even done it Friday only up 14-0. Days could be one of if not the best back in the state, but the Coach plays so many backs. You get fustrated in the stands as a fan,but now those same kids that was stalling drives and fumbling the ball are starters or playing significate time. And most are Juniors and Sophmores. And yes we have two full time Freshmen starters. And which one is my Nephew. We lost 15 starters from last year and some other seniors that played significate roles. Thats why he is the Coach. Coaching to win for the year but preparing for the next year at the same time. I as a fan NO CHAMPIOSHIPS, COACH HERRON AS A COACH,3 CHAMPIONSHIPS. I knew what he was doing at the time, I just thought it should be in mop up duty. Playing when it counts, what a difference it makes. Thats why Im the fan and he's the COACH and a GREAT COACH he is. One of the top 5 in the State of Ga.

SportsFans31313, before Northside start making room in the trophy case ,they better take care of business in Newnan Friday night. Believe me ,it won't be easy at all. With all the injuries they have, it'll probably be somewhat of an upset. As far as I know,Newnan is relatively healthy . Nobody respects Newnan, says they've been lucky to get by.We will see.

Reeze and ENR:

I totally agree on the Dome for the Semi's or even the Quarters. A lot of good points there. I know when SPX met NSWR in the '06 Semi's (awesome game, even though we lost), the BONUS was that I got to hang around before and after our game to see good football from alot of teams across the state.

The only other way you get to do that is to clone yourself and be in 4 or 8 stadiums at once.

I ain't that smart. Yet.

Peach County definitely won't be sleeping. They were challenged and taken to the wall at St. Pius X Friday night and showed their pedigree by hanging tough through adversity. Great, great ballgame by disciplined teams that could have gone either way - several times.

It was the kind of game that sets you up to go deeper in the playoffs, if you survive it.

Good luck to you both in the Semi's. May the best team win!

Greetings CougarDad,

Thank you....

With the remaining games left in Class AAAAA. Here are my predictions again for this Friday.

Northside Warner Robins over Newnan

Camden County over Colquitt County

I stated earlier that Northside Warner Robins and Camden County maybe headed into a head on collision for the 2nd straight year.

Here something to think about. If Camden County wins, then this will be the 2nd straight year that Region 3-AAAAA Camden County beats Region 1-AAAAA Northside Warner Robins, and the 2nd straight year that the State Title comes to South Georgia, Rehion 3-AAAAA, and Camden County.

If Northside Warner Robins wins, then it will sweet revenge over last years loss to Camden County.
In addition, I believe that this will be another accomplishment for Northside Warner Robins as they will also join Lowndes in making History as the ONLY two Schools to win a State Title in Class AAAA and Class AAAAA.

Please take note not of it.

Im begging you Peach Co. though you won't do it. You guys are 13-0, reside in an area where great football is played annually, and have championship pedigree. The way Eastside is playing though, especially on defense, they may not need the help. I realized at the Jackson game on Friday, that these Eastside Eagles are special. Its amazing after all the losses from last years team what they have done. It seems like after they lost the Newton game in Sept. that they realized who they were and the light turned on. To shut out a Jackson team that was dominate all season ( check their schedule though--- and their region) on the road no less, the Eastside program has come of age. Going to Ft Valley will be a huge test for Eastside, Jackson on being 15-20 miles down the road wasn't really a true road game. Good luck Eagles, Newton Co is behind you!

I have to take my hat off to TCCHS. Much respect for your team and Fans. There were some pretty tough words posted prior to the game and when you have such a rich winning tradition as you have, it's easy to be proud of your team. All of us from Sandy Creek enjoyed being in the atmosphere Friday night. You were a great host and you provided outstanding hospitality. Once the game was over some of your commects were read to us on the bus ride back up to Tyrone. You guys showed class and dignity during a tough time. That only comes with being a champion and a winning organization. We appreciate your kind words and your support. Great game and thanks for being the community you are.

Finally down to the final four AAAAA. Colquitt, Camden, Newnan, and Northside. Newnan and Northside have unfinished business from 08 with Camden. I know both teams have that in the back of their minds. Colquitt has redemption from getting bounced in 1st round by Camden. Camden defending state champs, got no respect from no media, even as defending champs. Hard to say what's going on in the "Teams Head". Seems that everyone looked at 08 team, as a team full of Seniors, 35 to be exact. Most of them did not start on offense or defense. Camden was 9th, 10th and 11th grade heavy in starters. The coaches know how to get the best out of the team. This team seems to be the same as last year. Camden has a Blue Collar mentality. They strap it on, line up and play. Their mentality is about teamwork, no one player is above the teams goal. Case in point, the Senior QB quit before the last regular season game. No problem, insert a Junior, the "Team" rolls on. Coaching and dedication to the program. All four teams look the same from what I see. Saw Northside this year, looks like last year, little faster I thnik. Went to Newnan, look the same, but a shade faster, great move to put your best player on offense as well. Saw Colquitt, the single wing allows them to put more blockers to the left or right, creating an unbalnced attack on the defense, love the toss sweep, lots of speed. Camden, what can be said. No big name players, lots of speed and stout on the defense with speed. Young guns have matured over the season. For the rest of AAAAA good season to you all, but then there were 4.

6AA Why do you say Lovett won the coin toss, my understanding is there was no toss at all, just a decision by GHSA to have the game in Calhoun. Could you verify that, even though the game is set. I'd like to know if the reporting I'm reading is accurate.

Black is Back,
Thanks for your heartfelt explanation. I just discovered this blog about three days ago when I was looking for info about the then-upcoming game with Charlton, and had not read any of the offensive remarks made by Lovett fans. On behalf of the vast majority of Lovett fans, I apologize for the insults of the few. I know the Lovett AD and find it impossible to believe that he, or anyone employed by the school, would actually call more than once to find the "best" route to Folkston. It's all to easy to find any town and one or more routes on folding maps, Mapquest and using GPS units. However, the "best" route is known by people who frequently make the trip. I assume the calls were from one or more people, posing as our AD, for the sole purpose of offending and/or getting a laugh from their friends. Again, I am certain it was no one employed by Lovett, but apologize none the less for the actions of that or those Lovett fans. Whoever it was had to be young and foolish, because anyone old enough to know anything about the last ten years, at least, of AA football certainly knows who and where Charlton County is. And anyone who knows the success of CCHS knows you don't want to give the Indians any extra fuel for their fire. I had no idea that your county has such a painfully high number of unemployed citizens, and I am truly sorry to know that now. All communities are being hit hard by this economy, but 25% is shocking. From learning about CCHS football over the last ten years and knowing that the character of your community is at the core of your students' hearts and souls as taught by their parents, I am confident that the people of Charlton County will withstand this test and be blessed by God. Concerning your ongoing need for a kicker, some business or individual/group of individuals there may want to consider paying for a community coach from the University of Jacksonville, Valdosta State, etc. to come once or twice a week and develop 2-3 kickers. Maybe the Jacksonville Jaguars would do it as a public relations tool. Maybe one of the Bailey's who went pro would foot the bill. Regardless the cost would be manageable, and many schools do just that for a specialty in different sports i.e. pole vaulting. Thanks again to Charlton County High School and all its supporters for being great hosts, and for setting such a wonderful example for communities everywhere! Best wishes for a bright future and may God bless you indeed!!!

blu eagle........I think this game will go much like the Ridge game , Newnans offense don't seem to be lighting things up much , I think our Defense will hold it's own.....Like you said , more looks on offense is a must against Newnan , Nix will out coach Mc Donald I think.

NSWR better bring some offense with them to NEWNAN because they have been so inconsistent. Hopefully O'Neal wil be a factor and Maybe they can play Mosteller more with good receivers like Brison or it will be a long night against a very good Newnan team. Good luck EAGLES!

ENR.........What do you think about #4 Masteller coming in for Van Brunt at times to keep the defense's off balance and #3 Perry the RB coming in at times for Shaq , I don't know what's up with Perry , he's quick as can be and when he's in he usually gets positive yards ,don;t know if he's hurt or not , it's Nix team ,but he can be used more I think.

ENR, is Nix a step ahead of Jeff Herron of Camden? I was at the Northside/Camden playoff game in '09....great game with Camden winning by 2 td's if I remember correctly. Who you got this Friday, Camden or Colquitt? Watching Herron's team is a thing of beauty. Precision Wing T offense, no penalties, no mistakes. Days a monster on both sides of the ball. Very fast Defense. Amazing run this year after capturing '08 state title and losing all those seniors.

Randy: I am with Reeze. If a round is in the Georgia Dome, I would take the semifinals or even the quarterfinals. Can you guys imagine Friday night games all at one location? Friday night had multiple overtime games and the competition was fierce.

I am for the State Championships being played in local communities. If the GHSA made that change (I do not believe they ever will), I would be all for the semifinals being at the Georgia Dome. However, to place the semis and the finals at the Georgia Dome is too much.

It is one or the other. I would lean towards the semifinals. As Reeze (and Randy), said, it brings more kids to the Georgia Dome. The games were all in two days and it seemed to work. I have heard that the Atlanta schools pushed hard for the State Championships to be played at the Georgia Dome. go figure.

I truly believe that having to play region 1 so early and often over the years has made Newnan what we are today. We haven't got there yet but we feel we are close. I think Coach Tomberlin stated our defense looked at lot like a region 1 defense. We always had these kind of athletes but coaching and discipline molded them together. Friday night will be a war and hopefully Newnan can survive one more week.

I truly believe that having to play region 1 so early and often over the years has made Newnan what we are today. We haven’t got there yet but we feel we are close. I think Coach Tomberlin stated our defense looked at lot like a region 1 defense. We always had these kind of athletes but coaching and discipline molded them together. Friday night will be a war and hopefully Newnan can survive one more week.

randy prosen........I thought it was a foolish idea to move the semi's from the dome........I mean what idiot came up with the idea?......The 20 top teams in Georgia get to showcase their talent across the country and around the globe(web).....Potential scholly's lost , I know a couple kids over the years that got looks and late offers from colleges solely based on thier performances at the dome, makes you wonder how many kids will miss out on scholly's , not from D- 1's ,but from D-2's and HBCU"s that don't have the big recruiting budgets as D-1"s and used the semi weekend to see Georgia's top talent from 20 teams or find a diamond that was overlooked.....Now cut in half.......As far as the Championships at the dome , I disagree also....the semi's at the dome everyone benefits.....The Championships's belong to the community's ,more so in south and middle Georgia.......The 2007 AAAA championship game between Northside and Ware Co. was the most electrifying game that i have ever attended , Ware's entire community was invovled , It seemed to be the biggest event in the county in years . Small community's like Ware and others across the state shouldn't be robbed of such events.....No thought was even given to the folks who couldn't afford the trip and tickets to the Dome or the Elderly that maybe couldn't put up with the 4,5, or 6 hour ride from south Ga.........Randy this is almost criminal what was done.

Seriously, Inthatrenches, Conrad Nix saved us. Our season was finished. It has not been properly said. Peachtree Ridge literally dominated us. I think Bill Ballard made a mistake milking the clock. On the other hand, the PRidge defense gave NOTHING!

We have to get #6, Shaquille O'Neill. I would like to have #13, Briar Van Brunt. I believe that the other QB gives us some expanded flexibility (Masteller, #4). To defend Van Brunt, without O'Neill we do not have the necessary flexibility. We have to get it this week or it is going to be a long Friday night. O'Neill is our best offensive player and has been all year. He is the engine. Van Brunt plays off of him. He was forced to do everything on Friday and we really ran into some problems.

I am going to tease my friends from Gwinnett County. However, Peachtree Ridge could have easily beat us. It sounds like Grayson could have beaten Newnan. The important thing to remember (GrayRam, SuwaneeOwns, and BulldawgBite) is neither did. It is officially girls' basketball season in Gwinnett County. :-)

We need to get healthy, Inthatrenches, or it is going to be girls' basketball season at Northside too. :-) I have no doubt that Nix will have us ready. You should have seen the opening play for Northside and the play that we tied the game on. We may have had negative yards and it was just brilliance...similar to the big play against Lowndes County. The guy is just a step ahead of practically every coach in the state.

ENR, it is a shame that a sport where you have to have discipline, it is not preached. Coaches want to be these guys buddies and not their role models. These schools are content to win in the regular season and lose in the first and second rounds. There won't be any coaching change as they feel everything is AOK.

Randy Prosen: If the GHSA is going to play the State Championship game in the Georgia Dome, I do not support playing the semifinals in the Georgia Dome. I believe that the communities that are successful on the field deserve the opportunity to host as many state playoff games as possible.

The Georgia Dome is better for me (maybe you) because I live in Midtown. I can get on MARTA and get to the Dome or drive 5 minutes to the Dome. I loved the semifinal format for the same reason Randy suggested.

I understand why the GHSA has moved the finals to the Georgia Dome. I am certain it helps them make more money. It also helps with television, which I expect to grow in the current format. For me, I was going to go to see my Eagles in Warner Robins or Newnan.

Inthatrenches: I was just shocked when Stephenson sent the field goal unit on to the field with a 20-19 lead against Colquitt County. That call will remain etched in my head. Then, they actually kicked the football. Do these coaches in DeKalb County know what a squib kick is or do they teach their kids to kick it to the up man?

It is really sad for the kids. I want to see the first major public program in DeKalb County to follow Tucker's lead and hire a coach from outside of the DeKalb County circle.

Sanity Rules: Notice the correlation between the top metro Atlanta programs losing once they play a program from outside of the metro Atlanta area. If the GHSA was not so focused on forcing every top program from outside of the metro Atlanta to play one another in the first two rounds, we would see more metro Atlanta programs falling.

It will be very interesting to hear the AJC's and Todd Holcomb spin on it this week.

Inthatrenches: The truth of the matter is the conversation has now moved out of metro Atlanta. I was really surprised to see some of the posters on this site attempting to claim Newnan as a metro Atlanta school. Last week, Newnan was going to be metro Atlanta roadkill.

Remember, GrayRam. He must be in some sort of protective custody program. He wanted to talk about Peachtree Ridge and Northside. Many Grayson posters did not even find it necessary to talk about the undefeated Cougars of Newnan. Newnan was just an afterthought. I warned these Grayson posters. I remember when Northside looked past Newnan. The Cougars gave us a beating that Northside fans will NEVER forget. :-(

If our young Eagles do not get healthy quickly, we may be traveling down that dark, cold road again. We could not move the football against Peachtree Ridge. The AJC did not tell the story. They wrote that PRidge bottled up Shaquille O'Neill and Briar Van Brunt. The truth is Van Brunt went down with a concussion in the 2nd quarter (do to big hitting from the Lions) and O'Neill broke two fingers over a week ago.

May we play Colquitt County again? :-) I do not want Newnan.

Region 6 AA Fan
You want a cookie? You know you are probably going to win it all. You are not fooling anyone. Most likely you are a Lovett fan or you would not keep getting so puffed up about this. I know we need a kicker, it directly cost us 2 games. However, we don't play soccer here. When you barely have 450 in a high school and around 70 is in the band, you go with what you got. I know we dress out 60, but only 20 play. I personally, along with the majority of our fans, think we should start a petition to put one of our (never getting on the field) freshmen on that duty and let them do that at practice instead of watching. The richie rich stuff is the comments made prior to the game. " Gee ya know we can't find Folkston on the map." That is insulting to a community that has a 25 percent unemployment rate. That is where that comes from. I never said all of your fans were that way, however some were, including your AD that called more than twice for directions. Given the fact that we started the season unranked I think we did pretty good. With that being said, you were the best team we played by far. If you are going to say that our lack of kicker wasn't the reason we lost maybe you should watch the game film. As for the team speed, your #4 on offense and #3 and #23 on D were the only ones that could keep up. I do not root for north teams ever and won't. Not very many of us down here do. When a team goes down we root for our neighbors, like Camden, Clinch, ect. That is because alot of us are related....

MLK fan #1, first of all it's NEWNAN. Stop disrespecting my school by misspelling it. If Mack Brown couldn't run,he shouldn't have played. Did he play against Tift County last year when you got your butt kicked? The same Tift County we beat 42-0. You are a sore LOSER and I will ignore you until next year. You have absolutely nothing relevant to say.

INthatrenches: Watch the Colquitt County vs. Stephenson game. I have NEVER seen a high school team that allowed its players to celebrate after catching a pass or rushing for 8+ yards as much as the Jaguars. It was shocking. The chest bumping and trash talking for simply plays.

The problem is many observers in DeKalb County do not see the problem with this behavior. There is not the necessary focus in high school football in the public schools in DeKalb County to win at the highest levels. It is a shame, because I believe that players do what they are coached to do. The way that kids act on the field is a representation of their coaching.

For programs like Stephenson, Martin Luth King, and Southwest DeKalb, it is all about coaching. One of those schools should be beating down Rick Tomberlin's door! :-)

"Newman u got a lot of luck the last two weeks with Mack brown being injured last week and two fumbles in the first half against Grayson that were not called one of the fumbles would have been returned for a touchdown and u scored a field goal instead . You have a good team but are just getting by ".
Look I know losing was a bitter pill but look "getting by" means beating who is in front of you I wished Mack Brown would have played we wanted your best.......... let me ask you this why did MLK not wrap the hamstring, why did they not have a stationary Bike on the sideline, MLK is probably the most athletic team we faced but they were also undisciplined and the coaching did not adjust you were up by 6 at the half partly because of a fake punt play....Newnan adjusted to the kickoff in the second half we moved Ransby #10 and Ogletree #39 up to where the kick would go (Now if I were only up by 6(and fortunate to have 3 of that) and did not have my best player playing, away from home, I would not have kicked it to the other teams best player that was moved up to received that) You kick it deep and use what got you there; your defense!!!! Coaching cost you,,,another example: MLK's second field goal you had the ball at Newnan's 2 with first down because Newnan had too many players on the field you choose to keep the three rather than attempt to score a TD, another example: You go for it 4th and 1 at (your) 23 Cmon man that is not coaching when it is the 3rd quarter....You are fortunate that Newnan's Offense were undisciplined and lethargic in the first half.... if you change your coaching decisions with those athletes you will go farther than the second round??? Hey Good luck next year...

gdawg4: What a hypocrit! I have been on this board for a few seasons. I have heard people call one another curse words (Brookwood Mom, did it to me just a couple of weeks ago). I have heard people literally call out teenage children a been bad players.

I have NEVER seen you call them out on this site. Interesting.

The sun is going to rise in my life with or without this site, partner. Some of the stuff that has been on this board is childplay compared to this. Unlike you, I have defended players from schools that I have no clue about. David Grantham literally called out Devon Pike and Conrad Nix. Since I know DG and his athletic resume at Northside, I called him out.

Frankly, I would do the same for any person who found it necessary to call out a high school player. I have done it on this site regularly. Franky, Northside players are rarely called out on this site because Northside usually wins. It is usually players on losing teams called out. Feel free to scroll through sites. I defend those kids in the same manner.

You can call out a team, a coach (who is a grown man). However, calling out a player by name is crossing the line. I am going to say something, especially when it comes from a person who's athletic resume I am so familiar with.

David Grantham: I am going to clarify for this board something really quickly. You say that you are defending your character. I am openly questioning why you feel that you are at place to call out a Hall of Fame Georgia High School football coach. I stand firm in my questions about why you believe you are a person to go on record to question Conrad Nix.

Nix is a proven winner. No coach in Northside history is even close to the guy. I live in Atlanta and I find it disgusting that Northside has so many "experts" about football. If you take away Nix's fine record, Northside is a slightly above 0.500 program. When you were at Northside, our Eagles were a borderline joke. When I was at Northside, our football team was mediocre, at best. We got "Peachtree Ridged" by Robert Davis and Warner Robins regularly. Your first year of high school Warner Robins beat Northside 41-6. 41-6, David.

I do not question your character. I do question what on your resume gives you the crown on being the Armchair Quarterback. As I have said, you are entitled to your opinion. I am certainly entitled to my ability to question you. Deal with it.

I scrolled through some of the posts you left, long after I was in bed. Let me say to this board. ENR played sports at Northside. David Grantham played sports at Northside. There would not be a living rationabl person who would question the athletic accomplishments, academic accomplishments, leadership, etc. at Northside HS. The same could be said of David Grantham. However, there is a difference between DG and ENR.

I've been watching this board since the play-offs began and I've noticed that NO ONE has picked Rockdale Co. to do anything but LOSE!!! 3 weeks of picks, 3 weeks of victories!! Yall guys, keep on sleeping on the Bulldogs. Those guys are playing DEFENSE and they're doing things as a TEAM to win games. This will be a squeaker: Rockdale wins over Clarke Central for their 4th road win and advances to the title game against who? None other than those Bears!!!! I believe that those two haven't played each other since 79' when the Bears had Freddie Gilbert and Co. They destroyed the Bulldogs back then 48-0 and went on to the quarter-finals.

Newman fans don't get me wrong your team is good but it kills me when u have someone say you shut our top player down when u know he couldn't run . Just think if your star player Alec couldn't perform where do u think Newman would be right now. I just want u to state the facts about a game when u beat some one.I love football that's why I watch the games on comcast . Mlk will be back next year stronger than this year would like to see us play one of the gwinnett or south ga. Teams in the regular season.

Black is Back,
Any particular reason that you so resent the loss to Lovett? Most teams that are eliminated, and their fans, want the team that beat them to go on and win the championship. But I notice you still want to complain about why, in your opinion, you lost the game, and to negatively refer to Lovett players as "richie riches". But, hey, it's a free world and you can support any team you choose. Trust me the Calhoun coaches already have a great idea of what they will do in their plan to stop Lovett's offense and score on the Lions' defense. Things don't always go as planned, but we all have a plan. And I hope your plans for the holidays and for 2010 go better than you dream! By the way, even though Lovett won the toss, we still travel to Calhoun because our stadium is too small for the GHSA to be happy. C'est la vie!

SWD Still Strong....yeah...hold your horses, and why are you concerned about the Mighty Bears?
sounds to me like you are still whining and looking for excuses because you got beat. We are not worried about Clarke Central. And Rockdale has already PROVED they are ROAD TOUGH! Griffin has their sights FOCUSED on those Sandy Creek Fighting Patriots. We understand how good they are, They made one of the toughest road trips in Ga. High School football, They marched in to a hostile Jackets nest at TCC, swatted them down AND took all their Honey! But guess what??? BEARS LOVE HONEY - and the Griffin Bears are HUNGRY!! :-)...

Fred I too am a believer that you can make numbers pretty much say any thing you need to prove, but in this case the numbers don't lie.

Look at it another way. Northern region was made up of 16 Northern teams.
Southern Region was made up 8 Northern (from the Top 1/2 of the state) Teams and 8 Southern Teams.

I would say the Atlanta Area (Top 1/2) of the state had plenty of opportunity to prove themselves.

As I pointed out in another post in another week, of the 8 South teams
only 3 (Lowndes, Camden, and Colquit) were legitimate AAAAA schools and the rest were actually AAAA or under. According to the new school population numbers just put out.
2 of those 3 (Camden and Colquit) are still playing along with Northside who is soon to be back down into AAAA.

So of the 3 legite AAAAA schools from the south that made the semis 2 are left and the one that was beat was done so by one of the other legite AAAAA schools from the south.

Good news I see Newnan getting to the finals.
I feel like Northside has been cutting it too close lately
and it is time for them to get bit.

Bad news I predict Newnan will lose to Camden in the finals.

I think other posters (I was not one of them) said it best when they
said the state championship game was the Lowndes/Camden winner.

Camden seems to be on a roll.

Funny thing, at the beginning of the year I had Camden in the championship game against Lowndes at the Dome. I felt like they would lose to Grayson first game of the year, but improve drastically as the year went along.

Of course Lowndes blew that opportunity when they went down 10-7 at the hands of Northside and lost the 1AAAAA #1 seed.

But then, Newnan still has a chance to prove all of us doubters wrong.

Cane Fan and BlackGold,
I can't figure out if you two are young guys who just don't know any better, or are old guys who just don't know any better, but one thing is for sure. You are not current players or coaches on The Hurricanes team, because if you were, you wouldn't be running your mouths against a team like Buford. Buford may find a few players each year who prefer to play for Buford than their normal school, and they may be younger than usual this year, but they are extremely well coached and plenty talented, plus big and strong. Believe me their coach is one smart coach who has many tools/tricks up his sleeve, but saves them for when they're needed so they catch their opponent by total surprise. If they find they can't run the ball down your throat, they will kill you on play-action passes. But I imagine they will rush for more points and yards than you ever dreamed possible. Just curious, how does Buford's margin of victory over Cook compare with your margin over Cook? If you even score on Buford, you'll be doing great. Their coach is also smart enough - just as I imagine your coach is - to brag on their opponents, both those they have already beaten and the next one on the schedule. I have no doubt that Fitzgerald has a superb team and deserves the ranking they have and much more recognition and appreciation than they get prior to the playoffs. But, if you think that The Canes or anyone will embarrass Buford this year or any year, that is a thought that is wiser to keep to yourselves, or just among close friends of the Canes family, until you have actually done the deed. I expect it will be a great game and wish both teams good luck and no injuries! Be sure to save all your postings so after the game you can show everyone and say "SEE I TOLD YOU!" or pretend you didn't actually write them and say "That Cane Fan and BlackGold surely are enthusiastic, not too smart nor humble, but definitely enthusiastic."

SWD Still Strong,

Hold your horses......Don't exactly crown Clarke Central in the finals.....Rockdale has beaten those guys already this year. Trying to win again is NOT going to be an easy task, but it will be a great game because both teams have improved so much!!! Region 8-AAAA played good football this year, but they don't get any respect because of previous years. This year is a different year and all the teams went out and EARN their respect by playing hard.....Regardless of who wins or not, Region 8-AAAA has alot to be proud of!!!

Pakcer's you guy's have played Camden before during the 04/05 palyoffs. Camden 9-0 winners, first round game. Some of your fans know how big Chris Gilman stadium is. More than enough space. Please pack the place out. Trust me Camden fans will be there. In fact they packed out the visitors side in North Gwinnett last friday. I am sure Camden is looking forward to your visit. I watched Colquitt on GHSTV, a very impressive bunch. Camden takes no one for granted. They seem to strap it on, lineup and play.

Congratulations to the Eagles! We must play a better game against Newnan. It really suprised me that PTR held us like they did. They have a very good team. I don't understand Lowndes beating them the way they did. That just shows you that anything can happen. Congratulation to the Cougars. I hope it's a good clean game. I know they have a very good defense. I'm not sure about their offense, I think it is a little weak like ours. I think it will be a close game. Go Eagles!!

Can everyone realize that if you dont win state at some point you will FACE DEFEAT so 50% of you bloggers will eat crow and to Griffin watch out for Clarke Central they have a strong defense but they wouldn't have defeated us if Ken Malcolm didnt get hurt but thats besides the point. I think if Rajon nEAL runs and plays hard Griffin will be in T-R-O-U-B-L-E . Griffin won't win state easily..

Inthatrenches , what benefits us is the way we lost last year. We felt like we were the best in the state but we didn't play like it when it counted. There is a deep desire for this team to redeem itself for last year's shortcomings. Last night the whole state saw what we knew all along. Newnan's defense is fast ,big ,and hard hitting. No weakness.
