Colquit is now in route to be the Hoover of GA. They will be dangerous for all to consider. And Lassiter allowed atleast 35 points from to mediocre at best programs on the scoreboard. Colquit is going to have a good time in rich kid high school. They might even watch the band of lassiter. Doubt they will be doing much of any strategy work at half time. Those farmboys in Colquit County are nothing to play with. South Gwinnett scored 49, and North Forsyth scored 37. I know you put up a combined 132, but you are playing in the SEC of high school football. Defense not offense reigns in the south. I know Lowndes scores a lot of points, but that is all due to their defense. Hitting hard, not arm tacking but leading with your facemask and body to make a tackle before rapping up is how they do it. Will Lassiter get past the 40 yrd line against Colquit? If they do, will they score more than a field goal? If you’ve never been hit, you don’t know how to respond. Your WR and RBs need to make sure they have new mouth pieces. QB too. Before the ball snaps, he needs to put a mouth piece in. I know it’s probably a new concept for Lassiter, mouth pieces in football. I would say the same for every other position on the field. We want those teeth to be healthy, so they don’t have to replace their real ones with fake ones and look like Mr. Ed.
Colquit wins 42 – 18(all fieldgoals for LHS). No TD’s for the Band school. If it’s any consolation your band will be better than Colquit county’s band, and your fans will do what they normally did for lassiter football games….leave after the band performs, because that will be the high point of the game.

GDF, you said “but the power of Peach County is both offensively and defensively sound”. Now I’m not exactly sure what you mean by this. For instance, what you essentially said is that their power is sound. Now does that make any real sense. Perhaps you mean that Peach County is sound on both sides of the ball. That may be true, but it is certainly not unique to them. St. Pius is in the top 3 in scoring defense in AAA, and is averaging about 40 pts a game. Certainly Peach County will be an extremely capable opponent, but St. Pius X has a rendezvous with destiny… don’t count on beating us at George B. Maloof.

LHS, it wont be an upset. It’s Lassiter football we are talking about…not Grayson, NHS, Brookwood, Parkview, Camden, Ware County, TCC, Peach County, St. Pius, Marist, Statesboro, Buford, Dublin, Collins Hill, SW Dekalb, Stephenson, MLK, or Valdosta that Colquit is playing as a number two team. It is Lassiter. If Colquit wins, it isnt an upset – it is a matching of one team that has to fight every week to be in the situation it’s in and one that is in a region that has one proven team also known as Roswell that got spanked repeatedly and embarrassingly by Lowdes County. Your region is the equal to that of Camden’s region with Beach, Savannah High, Jenkins, Windsor forest ect. It only has one team that matters in the state playoffs. You happen to be Winsor Forest in this conversation, not Camden. If Roswell isn’t going deep in the playoffs, nobody in your region is going deep in the playoffs. Forget my score from earlier. Colquit will beat you like Union Grove beat Windsor Forest.
My predicted score is the same score as UGHS vs WFHS. Colquit 47 – LHS 20.

LHS, if you watched the scrimmage in August between Colquitt and Lassiter then how can you possiblely think that Lassiter can beat Colquitt. I was at the scrimmage too and the Lassiter fans were in shock. The lightning saved Lassiter further dismantling. It was total domination on both lines of scrimmage by Colquitt County. I know the Lassiter players still remember and know in their hearts that they are facing a better team.

Pridge 28 – NHS 3. Really? I can tell you go to a new school, cause you’re just so shiny to how things work in GA. Pridge will be luck to score 17. NHS beat Lowndes 10 – 7. Lowndes beat Pridge 51 – 17. I’m sure some of that 17 came against Lowndes JV and Freshman squad. Nix is totally against running up the score so the score will be atleast 42 to 24 or less because, Pridge will being playing the JV and put up 14 in the 4th quarter with 5 minutes to go.

Actually Grayram, explain your thought process when you came up with the scores. It might make a little bit more sense but not much more on all your scores minus Grayson Newnan. Grayram….. you definitely have a Northern slant. A prime example of no one giving Camden any respect. If you think NG is gonna score that many points you are highly mistaken. It will be 13-7 Camden with the Cats having 32 of the 48 mins of possession. We have too much speed… and the spread is just not going to work against us. We have a great track record against the spread actually.

I do respect Camden and would pick them if they were back in Jacksonville. I think you are underestimating NG.
AS for Northside i know they got pumped up and beat Lowndes but they also lost to a team that didn’t even make the playoffs and beat up on some weak teams. Wins over Cofee, Houston etc.. are no more impressive than a win over Berkmar or Shiloh. I think they are in for a surprise.
As for Lassiter i have seen Both Roswell and South Gwinnett and know they are two good teams. Lassiter beat them easily so i think they will be able to get by an overachieving Colquit team.

That d-line in ‘03 was mean, wasn’t it Brickwall? People sure forget that game when exalting NS’s dominance at the MAC. I thought the QB for NS was gonna walk off the field before the first quarter even ended. I’ve never seen a great athlete look so demoralized. Funny, he actually connected for a 60-somthing yd TD w/ Newnan’s Derrell Stegall in the North/South All-Star Game (where Stegall went on to receive Offensive MVP honors).

Brick: When you say that the ‘03 team literally hit “you” in the mouth…I assume you are saying that you were an O-lineman for NS that year? I can say that if you were talking about (personally) being beaten by that D-line, rest assured that you were not alone…that was one of the strongest (and fastest considering size) that you will find on any high school team, in any part of the country. If you did play, then I hope you know that u fell to the best.

Davis Mann:
That d-line hit hard. The QB deserved a better performance from us, when it came to playing against that Newnan D line. I don’t think we crossed the 50 yard line(so much for being number 1 in the state).
Grayram:
NHS loss to the team that typically beats NHS. WRHS leads the all-time series 28 – 18. They beat us normally minus the last 10 years. Likes like the Lowndes-Valdosta Matchup or the Brookwood Parkview matchup, regardless of how good or bad the other team is, that night, all is equal. NHS did not get pumped up to beat lowdes, it was expected. Just like when Lowndes beats NHS, it’s expected by their team. If Lowndes beats Valdosta it’s still a shock. If Parkview beats Brookwood it’s a shock and if Northside beats Warner Robins, it’s a big day. Beating Peachtree Ridge will be as expected for Northside as it was for Lowndes when they beat them like Tyson beat Michael Spinks. Very Expected. If you are too young to remember that fight…..youtube it and put Spinks in a PRHS uniform.
2.3 hour bus ride = very unfocused high school athletes(I know because I am an assistant basketball coach.
MAC Stadium = a very potent homefield advantage due to:
- the fans
- for the silver spoon programs in the state the field itself.
Expectations –
Northside does not feel pressured to win. It just happens. The players are trained so well (because we typically have 1 – 2 division 2 athletes on our team per year – look at the signings from NHS. The list is sparse), they expect to win, because they are just better than the average team or the good team. I think PRHS showed their true character against N. Gwinnett, Lowndes, Norcross, and South Forsyth.
Especially the Lowndes matchup.
Past 3 years before your eyes:
NHS loses close to Lowndes.
NHS loses close to Camden.
Lowndes loses close to NHS.
Lowndes loses close to Camden.
Peachtree Ridge gets a murdered by Lowndes.
North Gwinnett Gets Murdered by Lowndes in a state championship.
One must assume that NHS is much better than Peachtree Ridge. The Warner Robins program you mention lost to Grayson 10 – 0 with only 40 yards total offense. Grayson could only score 10 points against a team that only gained 40 yards and them beating Northside High School loses your pick of Northside to beat Peachtree Ridge, after PRHS lost by 35 points to a team NHS beat….Hmmmm. If WRHS offense had showed up for atleast 150 yards, Grayson might have a loss to the same team NHS loss to.

Oh yeah I forgot North Gwinnett shut down Peachtree Ridge. That is the food chain before your eyes. Lowndes beat North Gwinnet and Peachtree Ridge like they didn’t even show up. North Gwinnet beat Peachtree Ridge. Northside beat Lowndes. We are the top of the food chain this year in this ecosystem. If you add Camden and Newnan, we might be third place, just because Camden and Newnan both won the last matchups we had against them. Take Camden and Newnan out and we are the top of the food chain this year.

Cane Fan and other Fitzgerald Canes, Region 1 is a great region no doubt with a #1 and #4 seed in the elite eight, but save your boasts for after the game. Sure Buford has to get by Cook, but you still have to actually win the game against Callaway. Now is the time when region strength shows and rankings begin to mean something. If Callaway handled Westminster as easily as they did, you may need some serious homecooking to get to the Buford game. And if Buford comes to see you, they may have more fans there than Fitz does. We other Region 6 schools will put Buford up against any team from any region, any class, year after year. If you beat Callaway and Buford, you will deserve your dome trip, but that’s a huge “If”, and I will have to see it. Region 6 believes in Buford and Lovett, and we hope they meet in the dome, but they both have a big job ahead of them.

Brick: They all went on to play at the next level except for our weak-side tackle (who actually graded the highest on a consistent basis…he just wasn’t as physical as the other “freaks”). Ernest Mitchell, the big boy you might remember, went on start at Arkansas for a few years, but is home now and looking for a NFL tryout. Santez Maze, who had the fumble return for a TD (not to mention an almost identical play in the waning seconds against Parkview in the next game) just finished his career at Jacksonville State. Sergio Render, who was a junior offensive guard and played DE in special situations (he caused the aforementioned fumble that rocked the “orange jungle”), is finishing his senior year at Va Tech and is projected to be (possibly) the first offensive guard taken in the draft next year. I know you only asked about the D-line…but I can’t help myself from continuing (since contracts law is not nearly as dear to me as high school football…as my final on Tuesday will probably display). Demiko Goodman (WR) was the most touted of our athletes and you may know he had a rough career at UGA, plagued by injury. He is now running professional track in Texas and his sister, Chalonda, who will be in the 2012 Olympics, signed with UT for track. Tyler Horne (QB) has stepped away from football and starts for the University of Tennessee’s baseball team at 3rd. The best two players from our ‘03 team are home, raising the future of Newnan football…Fernando (Phillips), Jr. and Derrell (Stegall), Jr. We’ll be blogging about them in the 2020’s. Fernando left school at Ga So after his mother’s murder, and Derrell never made it off to school because of his girlfriend’s pregnancy. Fernando had 11 interceptions that year, and Derrell caught for over 1000 yds. Tyler threw for more than 3000. Three tremendous athletes.

Football games are NOT played on paper. SPXGBM you should know better than that. At this point in the playoffs, stats mean nothing! I don’t care if the game was here at Anderson field or where it currently is (George B. Maloof Stadium). The better team will win/should win. You said that Peach County is an extremely capable opponent. What that tells me is that the Trojans are extremely capable of going into George B. Maloof and knocking off the Golden Lions. The passing of the legendary coach of St. Pius will certainly fuel the Golden Lions tonight but that drive and determination is bound to come to an end. BLACK AND GOLD will prevail at George B. Maloof!!!!!

Good point, alternator man. I don’t know who the better team is because I haven’t seen either team play. However, inspiration can only take you so far. After Coach Maloof passed, Dacula won 5 straight games because the kids were playing for their coach (George Maloof’s son, Kevin). Dacula defeated Parkview and Brookwood during that stretch but ran into a better Woodstock team in the playoffs and got beat. I hope that St. Pius can get a win because Paul Standard coached me in high school and I love the man. However, I get the feeling that they’re alot like Dacula always is. The do an excellent job of coaching throughout the year and then get to a point in the playoffs where a team is just much more talented than they are. Good coaching can only take you so far.

I honestly think all of you people have it wrong about the St. Pius game.
Indeed SPX scores around 40 points per game and have one of the best defenses in class AAA as well but Peach County scores just as many points as they do, they had to face Cairo and Baldwin in the regular season, of course, defeating both. St. Pius has also played some great teams, but this year’s squad from Peach County has a little more “BAAM” than this year’s team from St. Pius. Perhaps I am way wrong about this, and there is no doubt that the game will be an interesting one, but I am sticking with my original prediction.

I also hope that ya’ll aren’t a horribly efficient passing team beacause if you are… we might have some issues. That being said good look stopping our option.

Your analysis of LHS is interesting. Funny, but interesting. Most of the points Lassiter gives up after piling up their 24+ avg point lead by the middle of the third quarter is mainly against their 2nd and 3rd string defense, whom coach Lindsey wants to get valuable game experience, something he learned from his short term mentor at Hoover. CC has an average passing attack but an excellent running game, and are very predictable schematically. It’s all about execution, and if Lassiter can stop the run and force their usual 2 to 3 TO’s, CC has no chance to win. Period. Their D has never had to deal with Lassiter’s version of the spread O, and certainly has never dealt with a QB like Mason this season. Granted, word has it that he’s an arrogant jagoff off the field, and not too bright in the classroom, but he is the premier QB in the state, and will run CC’s vaunted secondary into air-gasping submission late in the game.
Lassiter will no doubt score 40+ points. I just don’t see CC keeping pace. Should be a great game though. Dress warm!

Brickwall must’ve not seen the NHS vs LHS game or PRHS vs. LHS games. Lowndes shot themselves in the foot in that game which kept them from winning. Peachtree Ridge shot themselves in the foot by turning the ball over early, allowing big plays, and getting down 24-0 5 minutes into the game. PRHS held with Lowndes after the first five minutes and until they gave up late in the third quarter. I think you brickwall, are the person who is making a radical prediction at 48-24.

About your North Gwinnett Peachtree Ridge game comment, North Gwinnett scored 14 offensive points (the other 7 was a INT TD thrown with less than a minute to go in the 4th quarter) so that makes in 14-7. Peachtree Ridge was in NG territory 6 times without scoring, let’s be honest and say had we executed we would’ve probably come away with at least two TD’s and two FG’s. so that would make it 27-14 PRHS. There’s another way to look at every game, NGHS didn’t “Shut Down” Peachtree Ridge, Peachtree Ridge shut down ourselves in NG territory.

Quinn– I guess I was at a different NG/PTR game. PTR did try a field goal (it was blocked). I’m sure that played into the coaches decision not to try any more. The 4th down plays were stopped by the North defense. PTR did not take a knee and give up on those plays. If you want to talk about plays that could have happened, why don’t you bring up the obvious pass interference (that wasn’t called) on North’s 1st possession that would have been a sure touchdown.

21-7 NG, right? Not 27-14 PRHS. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.
You can make excuses all day long, but there’s no reason to discredit North’s efforts. Bottom line is, PR didnt score 27, only 7. NG scored 21, not 14. NG was the better team that night and that’s why they walked away with the win.
