I have to take my hat off to TCCHS. Much respect for your team and Fans. There were some pretty tough words posted prior to the game and when you have such a rich winning tradition as you have, it’s easy to be proud of your team. All of us from Sandy Creek enjoyed being in the atmosphere Friday night. You were a great host and you provided outstanding hospitality. Once the game was over some of your commects were read to us on the bus ride back up to Tyrone. You guys showed class and dignity during a tough time. That only comes with being a champion and a winning organization. We appreciate your kind words and your support. Great game and thanks for being the community you are.

Im begging you Peach Co. though you won’t do it. You guys are 13-0, reside in an area where great football is played annually, and have championship pedigree. The way Eastside is playing though, especially on defense, they may not need the help. I realized at the Jackson game on Friday, that these Eastside Eagles are special. Its amazing after all the losses from last years team what they have done. It seems like after they lost the Newton game in Sept. that they realized who they were and the light turned on. To shut out a Jackson team that was dominate all season ( check their schedule though— and their region) on the road no less, the Eastside program has come of age. Going to Ft Valley will be a huge test for Eastside, Jackson on being 15-20 miles down the road wasn’t really a true road game. Good luck Eagles, Newton Co is behind you!

Greetings CougarDad,
Thank you….
With the remaining games left in Class AAAAA. Here are my predictions again for this Friday.
Northside Warner Robins over Newnan
Camden County over Colquitt County
I stated earlier that Northside Warner Robins and Camden County maybe headed into a head on collision for the 2nd straight year.
Here something to think about. If Camden County wins, then this will be the 2nd straight year that Region 3-AAAAA Camden County beats Region 1-AAAAA Northside Warner Robins, and the 2nd straight year that the State Title comes to South Georgia, Rehion 3-AAAAA, and Camden County.
If Northside Warner Robins wins, then it will sweet revenge over last years loss to Camden County.
In addition, I believe that this will be another accomplishment for Northside Warner Robins as they will also join Lowndes in making History as the ONLY two Schools to win a State Title in Class AAAA and Class AAAAA.
Please take note not of it.

Peach County definitely won’t be sleeping. They were challenged and taken to the wall at St. Pius X Friday night and showed their pedigree by hanging tough through adversity. Great, great ballgame by disciplined teams that could have gone either way – several times.
It was the kind of game that sets you up to go deeper in the playoffs, if you survive it.
Good luck to you both in the Semi’s. May the best team win!

Reeze and ENR:
I totally agree on the Dome for the Semi’s or even the Quarters. A lot of good points there. I know when SPX met NSWR in the ‘06 Semi’s (awesome game, even though we lost), the BONUS was that I got to hang around before and after our game to see good football from alot of teams across the state.
The only other way you get to do that is to clone yourself and be in 4 or 8 stadiums at once.
I ain’t that smart. Yet.

SportsFans31313, before Northside start making room in the trophy case ,they better take care of business in Newnan Friday night. Believe me ,it won’t be easy at all. With all the injuries they have, it’ll probably be somewhat of an upset. As far as I know,Newnan is relatively healthy . Nobody respects Newnan, says they’ve been lucky to get by.We will see.

I guess this is why, Im a former WILDCAT player and now a huge WILDCAT Fan and not a coach. In games over the past few years, Coach Herron would insert players that wasn’t ready to play. They would get into the game the drive would stall or they would fumble the ball. And yes they would finish some drives. Putting in the second and third string running backs or quarterbacks, rotating the linemen in and out. You would not think he does by some of the final scores, but he rotates them alnight, he even done it Friday only up 14-0. Days could be one of if not the best back in the state, but the Coach plays so many backs. You get fustrated in the stands as a fan,but now those same kids that was stalling drives and fumbling the ball are starters or playing significate time. And most are Juniors and Sophmores. And yes we have two full time Freshmen starters. And which one is my Nephew. We lost 15 starters from last year and some other seniors that played significate roles. Thats why he is the Coach. Coaching to win for the year but preparing for the next year at the same time. I as a fan NO CHAMPIOSHIPS, COACH HERRON AS A COACH,3 CHAMPIONSHIPS. I knew what he was doing at the time, I just thought it should be in mop up duty. Playing when it counts, what a difference it makes. Thats why Im the fan and he’s the COACH and a GREAT COACH he is. One of the top 5 in the State of Ga.

I have a lot of respect fr Newnan. Through out the season and post season I said newnan is a great football team, and I also stated every game they came against Newnan will win. However; I just don’t see them beating Northside Warner Robins. Great season for Newnan though….

SportsFan31313, I respect your opinion but don’t see how you came to it. Newnan just beat the #1 ranked team in Ga on the road. Northside really struggled against P-Ridge and by some accounts were lucky to win at home. With all their injuries ,you must think Newnan are pretenders. Then again you might believe all the north-south Ga hype. Remember ,Warner Robin’s not far from us.

Heron comes along gets the players involved, getting more players to sign up, getting the community involved, getting businesss’ involved and looked what happen. And look what Coach does off the field with the habitat for humanity and so forth.

I imagine when its time to make the picks this week that Clarke Central will be the favorite over Rockdale. Why? Because they will be playing at home and they defeated the mighty SWD team a week ago that was ranked #2. These Bulldogs like being underdogs, plus as before mentioned, has ALREADY beat CC in Athens earlier this year. The task will be MUCH tougher, with all due respect to CC. I learned a long time ago that its pretty bad to get your tail whip in your OWN yard, muchless get it whipped TWICE in your yard……wow!!!

I am so sorry, I shouldn\’t have an opinion or event hink for myself. God, please forgive me for questioning a call by the Greatest coach who has ever walked the sideline in Georgia, Conrad Nix. Even though his choice was wrong, due to the fact that the All State kicker missed the field goal attempt, it is my sin that I even question it.
All Hail, ENR! He is the eminent, powerful, omniscient, ARMCHAIR Quarterback for high school football in Georgia and especially the NSWR Eagles! I bow to him! I worship his high school athletic history! I want his knowledge. I want his insight!

Sanity Rules, Drock 09, REEZE, I have been out of pocket for the past 10 days due to 2 tragic deaths in the family, but have still managed to follow scores and results. First of all, VERY proud of the Newnan Cougars. I was not surprised. I have seen some great Cougar football teams in the past who were upset by lesser opponents. But I saw something in this 2009 Newnan team that I have never seen before in Game 1. Yes, Alec Ogletree is absolutely the most dominating skill player I have ever seen in GHS football. But this Newnan team is not just about the Ogletree brothers. The team is loaded with talent, speed and size. Add that along to playing with somewhat of a “chip on the shoulder”, and you have a team on a mission.(3 trips to the semi’s between 2003 and 2009.) This is the year of the Cougars. REEZE, are you still telling me that 2009 Northside is in a rebuilding mode? LOL! Should be a great game, but betting on the Cougars. Something like 13-10.

Newnan playing wit a chip on their shoulders, craving revenge on Camden, and Drake Stadium is way too loud. Period. But even louder in the playoffs. Tight one but Newnan is going to the Dome. Strakose gets a sack in the endzone, and Big Tree block another FG. Newnan 15; NSWR 10

Good teams always find a way to win! I have a lot of respect for Conrad Nix. Having said that, Conrad didn’t do much when I went to high school. He was coach at Northside in the middle 70’s. We constantly got slaughtered by the Demons led by Robert Davis. I think that Conrad has been fortunate to have some great talent at Northside the last ten years, He has built a winning tradition at Northside that makes the feeder school player strive harder to play when they get to high school. Then again, Conrad didn’t have that much experience coaching in the mid 70’s. Today, I think he is one of the best coaches in the state. Good luck to the Eagles and Cougars! May the best team win! It’s going to be exciting!!!! GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!

ENR – Previous post wasn’t me.
I have a great deal of respect and admiration for Coach Nix. There is nothing more I would like to see than Northside win another State Championship in football. More than a great coach, he is a man of God. That is what I respect even more.
Sorry you have to hear people question him at games and stuff. That is not my style. I disagreed with a choice he made. I thought this blog was about discussing things like that. I didn’t call Coach NIx or Devon out. I just thought it was a mistake, evidenced by the missed field goal, that fortunately did not cost Northside the game. I have never stated my athletic or other exploits from HS on this blog because they are irrelevant. I would prefer to communicate privately with you. The offer still stands.
Looking forward to seeing how Northside stands up to Newnan. Go Eagles!

Still here. Offically a Newnan Cougar fan now.
The Grayson Newnan game was just as expected and the Rams have nothing to be ashamed of. They palyed a great Newnan team and lost at the end on a play by probably the states best player.
Never a surprise for Camden to win and and Lassiter was apparently in over their head.
The only real surprise was Pridge losing to the JV boys from Macon. I wish Grayson would have got the chance to play one of the overrated 1AAAAA teams again but it was not to happen.

Reeze,
I don’t know that I can totally agree that Newnan hasn’t brought their offense. At least in our game, they showed a lot of heart and very good playing against Grayson. Grayson’s defense had to work very hard to contain them. I cannot speak about NSWR as I have not seen them.
slalom1,
Sorry to hear about your family. It is doubly tough to experience that kind of loss at the holidays – I know from personal experience. With all due respect to the very good Newnan players, no Alec Ogletree, no win over Grayson. Your quarterback and other running backs were “hosses” but we appeared to have them contained reasonably well. Alec had some size mismatches that favored him but I have to say he is what everyone has said about him. That one handed catch was stunning. I have told people that it looked like his hand was a good 5 feet about the Grayson defender’s helmet! Amazing! It seemed as though his name and number was called on almost every defensive stop as well. That was probably the best football game I have seen in years and Newnan did what had to be done to win. Grayson was a “team on a mission” as well and I have to believe NSWR will bring it as well. Good luck next week and at least this Grayson fan will be rooting for you! Hope to see you in the Dome this year. Grayson plans on being there in 2010.

Confusion on my mind in Georgia
The topsy-turvy year in Georgia continued this weekend when No. 9 Grayson was upset by No. 51 Newnan, 9-7.
At least that game was close. No. 29 North Gwinnett was overrun by No. 56 Camden County, 35-0.
No. 81 Lassiter also had a tough day, falling to unranked Colquitt County, 46-17.
The new state rankings – and don’t forget, Lowndes fell in the previous round – should be interesting.

Sanityrules I was responding to a Newnan fan that said you shut Mack brown down along with Pemberton from Grayson. You might have still beat Mlk with Mack but you would have definely got to see a special running back . I’m just going on what I have seen in the playoffs he would have made a lot of difference in a high school game where there are only a few players on every team that have the ability to dominate . Alec is a stud athelete who can make plays . Do you think newnan would be going to the semifinals without him. Every one has their opinion about every game u can’t tell me what I say is irrevalent I know more football than u could dream about knowing. Sorry For mispelling newnan my text was automatically putting a m in place of the n . I should have checked.

ok here is what happened to the mighty Carver Tigers Friday night in Columbus. CONNER SHAW. Yep. he beat carver all by himself. it was amazing. now we have to deal with him at South Carolina for four years. Spurrier now has the QB he has been looking for. Lookout SEC.And Slalom, no bad calls to speak of by the refs. Flowery Branch just did what they had to do and looked like Carver was not ready for an obvious onside kick that FB recovered and then drove and won the game.congratulatons to the whole Shaw family for job well done. all my teams are out now, Carver, Lagrange, Troup etal.
