Newnan v Grayson I think will be the game of the week….two very good defenses…..returning round 4 semifinal teams…… #1 vs #3 the two statistical best defensive teams left in the playoffs….. in round three wow!!! Can not wait for Friday..

nswr defense is getting stronger they have not given up a touchdown in the playoffs other than kickoff returns and 10 points off of turnovers look for them to reach semis and who knows if they win the coin toss hard for teams to come in to the mac and win

MikeMike,

I hate to break it to you, but Cairo’s season ends Friday night. The only chance that Cairo has is if Gainesville is looking ahead to CC next week – that’s not gonna happen for 2 reasons. 1) Cairo is the defending state champs and 2) Gainesvilles’ coach has that team to focused to let that happen.
As far as the Flowery Branch/CC game goes, if CC starts looking ahead to Gainesville, FB will beat them. Regardless, that’s a game that will be close throughout in my opinion.
The game of the week in my opinion is a tie between Grayson/Newnan and Lassiter/Colquitt Co. for completely opposite reasons: Grayson/Newnan is a game that could end 3-0 in OT, and Lassiter/Colquitt could (and probably will) wind up being a shootout.

AAAAA Quarterfinal Predictions

North Gwinnett over Camden: Long bus ride is tough for Camden to overcome. If game was in Kingsland, I would favor Camden for the same reason.
Lassiter over Colquitt County: I know the Packers have a good defense, but traveling to metro Atlanta for 3rd week in a row wears on you. See Coffee last year.
Grayson over Newnan: Toughest game to pick. Grayson for the home field & the disappointment of losing in OT in semis fuels the Rams.
NSWR over Peachtree Ridge: I have great respect for the Ridge, but, as has been pointed out so many times, NSWR does not lose at the MAC.

Good luck to all teams & Happy Thanksgiving to all.

If Pridge can keep from putting the ball on the ground they will hang with NSRW. All year–under the radar–no respect yet one of the best defenses in the state. Really though all the pressure is on NSWR–after all Pridge is just a # 2 seed out of region 7. The eagletts should have no worries————–be careful.

Must say–hats off to Camden.Unlike LOwndes Camden seems to play well reguardless of travel. Saw NGwinett against Pridge. Pridge could have won that game if not for coach Ballards Bill Belichick play calling impersonation—great coach–not sure of the mindset that night though.Would hope NG pulls it out but would not surprise if Camden wins either. All 4 of these games may be a lot closer than some think.

Camden does travel well. They should have beaten Grayson if Coach Herron doesn’t go for it on 4th and 2 on his own 40 with less than 7 minutes to go and up by 3. If Camden loses on Friday to N. Gwinnett, it will not be due to traveling. It will be because they were not the better team. that is provided the coach doesn’t blow it with another bonehead call.

North Gwinnett v Camden

The key to the game is North Gwinnett’s ability to to top the run. A powerful wing T team is a potential problem for North. Their defense is good but this offense has given them trouble due to their size. If North can hold them to 14 point it will be a good night.

Prediction:

North 20 Camden 14

Hey Wolverine Fan- I was rooting for you guys, but oh well, I know the feeling.
Home field advatage means a lot more than just the wear and tear of travel on the visitor. Familiarity and freindly confines just as important to home team. That being said,
Picks;
Camden over North Gwinnett – Home team eats too much turkey comes out lethargic!
Lassiter over Colquit County – Unstoppable!
Newnan over Grayson – Field goal game. Newnan gets one more defensive stop.
NSWR over “The Ridge” – Have to go with South GA Rules on this one. Too much home cookin’
Happy Thanksgiving all.

You forgot to say how Todd Holcomb or the evil metro atlanta conspirators caused this mysterious energy that kept a coach at a holy south georgia school from being average at best and horrible at times.

How many of NSWR big home wins in a row (except of course the games they lost) were to AA or AAA teams or Tift, Cofee, Houston? Here’s a random sample from 2006

The question is not whether Cairo can win, the question is whether the Syrup Makers can put up any points at all against the thundering herd of Red Elephants. I like FB’s chances in this game also.

ENR, I think you got into the egg nog a little early if you think NSWR can put up 24 points on P Ridge. NSWR has only scored over 21 points in about half of their games, and only against weak opponents. Despite one notable game, P Ridge has a real defense, and the NSWR offense is pretty suspect against strong defenses. NSWR scores at most 17 points, and probably not that much.

If we look only at common opponents, NSWR only put up 10 points, while PTR put up 17. This is despite the fact that PTR was well behind NSWR in time of possession against the “L” team. Looks like the edge goes to PTR on offense. For that matter PTR has a few real offensive weapons that give trouble to any team. The more I think about this game the more likely I think it is that PTR comes in as the better team. I’ll give you the “MAC” factor, but streaks are made to be broken. Oops, maybe that streak only applies to the regular season. Didn’t Newnan come into the MAC and kick your tails last year in the playoffs?

Hopefully, coach Ballard has learned to put up the field goal points if he gets 4th down inside the red zone. There is a good chance a couple field goals could be the difference in this game.

Peachtree Ridge 17
Northside 14

I’m sure I will hear about this prediction from the bouncing banshee. Apparently I don’t know enough already about the “streak” or the vaunted history of the MAC and blah, blah, blah … Unless of course, it is accurate, in which case the silence from ENR next week will be deafening.

GrayRam: We can not help that we were placed in a metropolitan Atlanta region when we moved from AAAAA to AAAA. All I know is when we played in AAAA over four seasons, a team from Warner Robins, GA played in the state championship every season and won the AAAA State Championship in 3 of those 4 seasons.

The truth of the matter is the Grayson Rams have NEVER reached the State Championship. NEVER. You are in the same boat as a program like Dutchtown. Don’t bash them. You are one in the same. Some of you guys, like GrayRam, really do a great deal of chest thumping when you only have one signature win in your program’s history.

OK, you beat a very, very good Lowndes County team last season. Good job. That was last season and you lost the next week. Grayson has beaten Lowndes County once. Programs like Northside regularly kick the little can known as Lowndes County around. Northside has played Lowndes County 8 times and won 6 of those games.

What Grayson should focus upon doing is stringing a group of big wins together. GrayRam, worry less about past teams that the winningest big program in Georgia has run over and focus more on Newnan High School. Trust me. You are not hosting Roswell and their backup quarterback tomorrow night.

Newnan has a real defense. Newnan players are going to hit you. Unlike your game against Lowndes County last season, Newnan is going to respect you and will not bring that thug behavior to your stadium. When you make posts about Northside’s past opponents it assures me that you are not focused upon the GIANT Cougar sitting in the corner.

Northside played a very strong schedule this season. Grayson played a very strong schedule this season. GrayRam, you are not going to make a logical argument that Northside has a cupcake schedule this season. The last time Northside played Dutchtown and Upson-Lee, Northside won the State Championship. The time before that, Northside won the State Championship. The time before that, Northside lost in the State Championship. What is your point GrayRam? Has Grayson ever reached the State Championship? Perhaps, Mickey Conn should schedule Dutchtown.

SuwaneeOwns: You are hilarious! Of course, Peachtree Ridge put up 17 points. In common opponents (Lowndes County), the Viking starters played every minute because Northside NEVER trailed them. Peachtree Ridge had the fine opportunity to see the freshman team of Lowndes County play. :-)

You are not seriously making the argument the Northside is an underdog against Peachtree Ridge because they scored some mercy points against the 9th graders. :-) :-) :-) I am honestly LMAO! :-) How about this common opponent analysis:

Lowndes County 51, Peachtree Ridge 17
Northside 10, Lowndes County 7

Northside has one, only one All-State player on our roster. He was in street clothes against Lowndes County. We still kicked the Vikings around, just as we will kick Peachtree Ridge around.

We will only score 24 if Peachtree Ridge plays hard. If the Lions become kittens and quit, as they have before, it will get far worse for the Kittens with the Silver Spoons in their mouths.

We know…we know. It is a mixed community. Northside will have the easiest game of any home team in AAAAA. It is Thanksgiving. McConnell-Talbert will be an absolute madhouse! The noise will be something that Peachtree Ridge has NEVER experienced.

Suwanee Owns: The last group of posters that were talking about silence from ENR were from Colquitt County. We forced the Packer posters into proclaiming a vast right wing conspiracy against them. Prior to that, there were the Lowndes County posters, the East Paulding poster who jumped upon the Vikings bandwagon, and silly poster like yourself who became Lowndes County fans for a week because they ran up the score on Peachtree Ridge.

Guess what? I have so much confidence in Northside when our Eagles play at McConnell-Talbert. I have always said that road teams will ALWAYS struggle in big games. If you are going to analyze a common opponent, at least admit that the common opponent ran over Peachtree Ridge and lost their will to compete against Northside.

When Lowndes County left McConnell-Talbert, they looked at one another and knew what their coaches, family, and friends were telling them was flat out untrue. They were just Vikings. Their team was not special. They were just another team left as roadkill on the side of the road outside of McConnell-Talbert.

What do you think Peachtree Ridge will be saying in about 31 hours. I am certain that someone wearing a Lions jersey will be looking for a white flag. You, Suwanee Owns, like your Lions will give up and say the words, “Northside does not lose at the MAC.”

Start practicing, partner. :-)

‘78 Bears: If there is a fanbase that travels better than the Griffin faithful, I would like to see it. I have witnessed the Green and Gold pack out opposing facilities and even large college arenas for boys’ basketball.

The faithful of Apalachee better make sure they do not find themselves in a Stateboro High School moment. In the 2004 AAAA State Championship, Warner Robins fans came on so many buses and purchased so many gameday tickets that Statesboro ended up playing a road game at their own stadium. It was reported that some parents of players did not reach the stadium in time to get a seat to see their child play in the state championship game.

Griffin may sell out Apalachee’s facility. I have personally seen Griffin fans sell out Alexander Coliseum (Georgia Tech) in the state basketball tournament…the entire place.

EagleNationRising

Inthatrenches: My projections will not be as rosey for my Eagles in basketball. By the way, that is my sport. Hopefully, we will all meet at the State Championship game in Georgia Dome. I am certainly a basketball guy. In Warner Robins, you get sucked into football or you find going to school a “challenge.” :-)

Atlanta is looking great! I really believe they are going to beat Orlando. I believe they are the best team in the East. This is going to be a special season, if the Hawks remain healthy. Joe Johnson is Joe Johnson. Josh Smith has been fantastic. I am concerned about the Falcons. Something tells me our ugly streak of never having a back-to-back season may continue. We should finish 9-7, at worse. We will see.

This is a high school blog. Do they have this blog for basketball too? I go to tons of games. I was just telling my dad that metro Atlanta has some of the best boys’ basketball in America…I hear the girls’ basketball is some of America’s best too.

That comment may come as a surprise to you guys. However, I love the basketball up here (Atlanta). I wish Northside would make a commitment to basketball. Our girls’ program is pretty good. They don’t even try in basketball. We usually just hire an offensive line coach with no basketball experience to coach the team. It is a disappointment. :-(

As for now, we are excited about our football team. Girls’ basketball, baseball, golf, and tennis should be strong too. Our softball and soccer teams had some decent seasons too.

Bart Sibrel:
I am proud of you. You posted two or three items in a row without whining that a negative energe or conspiracy from metro Atlanta was out to get the poor under appreciated South GA Teams.

Grayson has been around for about ten years and has been making the playoffs and advancing a little more each of the last few years.
I doubt that any team from Gwinnett will be able to match any really long win streaks because we play to many equal opponnents AND we actually count our games even if they are against Warner Robins.

AAAAA has been around since 2000 and only one season did Gwinnett not place a team in the finals. We have even managed to win a few.

I like the way yo go thru and comment on every game and especially like to talk down to any team from N GA, then as soon as someone else mentions your team they are “Overlooking” an opponent.
Be assured that no one from Grayson is is overlooking or not Respecting” Newnan.

I will not ever be doing any chest thumping because I realize there are many good teams all over the state and any of them could win this thing.

Lassiter 44 CC 31

There will be more defense shown in this game then in past Air Lassiter games, but defense will also play into the points scored for both teams. Mason will get open and will hit the open receivers, and points will be scored in clumps. But as good as CC is on defense, they will wear down in the 4th Q, and Lassiter will keep pouring it on. I really think this team is unstopable over an entire game, even when they fall behind.

I graduated from Jackson High School in 4-AAA and I have in turn been studying the entire AAA Playoff Bracket. I have made a few predictions on how I think tomorrow’s AAA Quarterfinal games will go:

Peach County @ St. Pius
(St. Pius will have a few good offensive drives at the beginning of the game, but the power of Peach County is both offensively and defensively sound. I see this game being a tough, but easy enough game at the same time for Peach County. PEACH COUNTY- 35 ST. PIUS- 17)

Cairo @ Gainesville
(Last year’s Syrupmaker team from Cairo were the state champions and even though they have been, for the most part, unranked this season, they have dominated in the playoffs so far, and the fact that they knocked out Baldwin, gives them tons of confidence! Overall, Gainesville is an offensive machine that doesn’t let anything get in the way and I think Gainesville will prevail in the end of this matchup. GAINESVILLE- 31 CAIRO-14)

Flowery Branch @ Carver-Columbus
(Sorry to break it to the players and fans from Flowery Branch, but your season will end here. I have nothing much to say except congratulations Flowery Branch for proving people wrong and making it this far, but if you plan on beating Carver you are going to need a miracle. CARVER COLUMBUS- 41 FLOWERY BRANCH-14)

Eastside @ Jackson
(This game will be a very good game from both the home and visiting team! Eastside has put up so impressive numbers this year such as their 44-0 blowout of Oconee County and their 48-0 annihilation of Jackson County. BUT, the teams that they play throughout the year aren’t exactly tough ones! This is where Jackson and Eastside are very similar, because neither team has a tough regular season schedule whatsoever! The 10-2 Eagles from Eastside did indeed suffer losses from some not-so-good out of region schools and this is where Jackson differs. The 12-0 Red Devils from Jackson, GA stumbled in their first matchup of the playoffs against Monroe but came away in overtime with the win. They easily handled the team that beat Lagrange the week before (Liberty County) by a score of 36-9. Did I mention that they scored 16 of these points without star early Florida recruit Neiron Ball? Some people like to say that Jackson has an easy schedule and have made it this far simply out of luck of the draw or either that Jackson has all its weight carried by Neiron Ball. All of this, as seen by last week is FALSE. McKibben from the Red Devils had close to 150 yards and was untouchable by the Panthers from Liberty County. Jackson held the Panthers from scoring until the second half where a safety was allowed by the Red Devil secondary defense, following a short bloop-driven touchdown. This game will be a god one, because Eastside has a very well put together staff but when it comes down to the line, I believe the Jackson Red Devils will put this one off! JACKSON-28 EASTSIDE-10)

Give me some feedback guys!

Oh, and to answer the Topic Question at the top of the blog, when it comes down to AAA teams, I would have never guessed that Flowery Branch would have found a way to make it this far, and honestly, Eastside is a pleasant surprise as well because everyone, including me, thought that Carrollton would would roll over them–certainly not the case.

TO GATORVILLE—–ME TOO!!!!! you know, teams have to earn tradition not just talk about it. Sometimes trash talk is ok sometimes not ok. Anybody can have a great season, and win it all ,BUT in order to TALK THE TALK AND WALK THE WALK , you have to do it on consistent basis——THAT IS CALLED TRADITION.To prove my point do a 5 year back check on them, and see how many seniors graduate this year , and finally see if they can carry on what they did this season; into next season, etc…THEN THEY CAN HAVE SWAGGER .ETC…E’NUF SAID….

Go Pack Go. I, too expect to see alot of interceptions tomorrow night as your QB is less than average and our DB’s get interceptions in every game. Don’t expect Hutson to throw them. He only has 5 on the year, compared with 54 TD’s. Good Luck!

Well last week I said that if Coach Herron doesn’t play to win and plays extremely conservative we will lose against Lowndes.. Well, Camden for the first time in 4 years played to win the game between going downfield repeatedly and burning the Viking DB’s to going for it on three fourth downs on the final drive and end up kneeling the ball on the 1 with less than a minute left to not run up the score. If Camden continues to play hard and coach the same way, we will be a tough out in the playoffs.. Another thing, no one is talking about is a cold front is coming in so it will be in the Mid-30’s at game time which will affect the passing game.. If North Gwinnett can’t run the ball they will be in trouble… Good Luck Cats!! Will get on the road in the morning..

Camden/ North Gwinnett game should be a very close. Both teams played tight games with Alabama top teams. The cold weather will cause a few turn-overs and the team that gives up the most will lose this one.Woodstock saying North is not that good is calling your team really bad as the game was never even close. North Gwinnett always plays tough inside the 20 as you found out with the shut-out.

I just don’t understand how North Gwinnett is going stop to stop the Wing T. I don’t care how big of boys they got, we just have too much speed for them. Also, we travel well… I mean the boys left on Thanksgiving Day to get prep for this game. I love how Camden gets no love …. yet we prove ourselves year in and out during playoffs. North Gwinnett better be ready for a hard fought game.

Newnan-Grayson will be tight, but Newnan’s defense got swagg. and when the d has a swagger about them and know how to hit, it carries over to the rest of the team. 10-7 in OT, take Newnan

Colquitt, wish you the best, put that qb on his back, no injuries of course, but he may keep his head on a swivel even more so.

November 26th, 2009
10:05 pm

GDF: Just a fan of Newton Co. football here. Look, clearly you don’t know about Eastside. First you say Eastside’s losses were to not so good teams. They lost 3-0 to Alcovy(7-3) a AAAA playoff team, and Newton(6-4) a AAAAA playoff team. Everybody thought Carrollton would roll over Eastside last week, but Eastside apparently owns Carrollton because they beat them over at Sharp stadium for the second year in a row, in the same round. Yes, they rolled through their region, but this Eastside team lost 20+ seniors from last year with 3 D1 guys. They are mostly 10th/11th graders, getting it done. And yes, Jackson has had an easy go of it this year. I see Jackson’s schedule this year, I see Eagles Landing, Therrell, Jackson Atl( formerly Southside) and a non region foe in Putnam Co. among other teams I know nothing about. Jackson is right down the road from Covington, about 20 miles. This should be a great game, I plan on being there. Until then, keep sleeping on Eastside.

Being Real:

If you need locker room talk to win, your program isn’t ready. There is no pressure on NHS to win because that is what they do. I can say the same for Lowndes, Camden, Parkview, Brookwood and Valdosta when their programs were in the prime of existence. Sorry Lassiter, I give the Edge to Colquit too. They have the former coach of the powerhouse program also known as Hoover at the most important position on any team – head coach. He also has a program that is learning that there is no pressure to win. I still feel that Lassiter’s football team is still trying to show that they can outshine the band. They feel the pressure to show that winning isn’t a fluke situation, it’s the norm. Colquit as a coach that has been there and done it on a National scene. The Nix era at NHS has no pressure to win. It’s normal. It’s what they do. If they lose, they were playing a team that was much, much, much, better than them (minus the WRHS game this year), but it still tends to be close.

Pressure to win does not exist at NHS. It’s like saying there’s pressure on Kobe to hit a Jump shot, or Jimmy Johnson to win in NASCAR. It’s automatic. They take their foot off the petal and cruise to victory. NHS is winning in blue is automatic. No pressure. Now, for Peachtree Ridge, things might not be so automatic. There might be pressure. Might need a salt bath before the game to relieve some of that tension. Then again Peachtree could be a WRHS moment and we could have a total brain fart and lose to…..nevermind, we are being real.

Newnan I look forward to seeing you in the next round. It should be a good game. You hit us (me literally) in the mouth fall of 2003 and we would love to make make sure that this time around does not sing to the tune of 24-0. Hopefully your d-line isn’t faster that our o-line unit like it was back then.
