My Predicitons In Week Three of the Post Season Playoffs:

Peachtree Ridge at Northside, W. Robins As Much as I Like the Ridge, They are not
strong enough for Northside Warner Robins.
Take Northside Warner Robins.

Newnan at Grayson Two Great Programs but Newnan’s rein will
end here. Take Grayson.

Newnan at Grayson No question No Doubt. Take Camden
County

Colquitt County at Lassiter Take Colquitt County.

Not so fast with Colquitt pick. Excellent special team play is the reason they won against Stephenson, won’t be enough to compete in this one. There ability to put some pressure on Mason may keep it in the 40’s but overall they won’t win.

Also, the students will miss some class time making a long bus trip. Not to mention the families and fans would have to take off of work early on a Friday to travel to the game.

Decatur 4 Life,

There you go again. Colquitt County will beat Lassiter. I will guarantee you that that offense that was scoring all of those points will not happen against Colquitt County.

Here we go again. All the talk about Camden County plays a soft schedule. Year after year.

Here they are again. They beat a really good Lowndes team, and are back in the hunt in 09 after winning the whole thing in 2008.

Time to give this school its due. Every year they are there competing for the state championship. Every year winning games they should not win.

Too bad I will be in St. Marys for thanksgiving. I live 3 miles from NG high school. Would have loved if Camden had won the coin flip.Maybe it will be on GPTV.Anyway “Go WILDCATS”.

I have never understood why AJC never takes Camden County seriously. There is little to no game coverage all season long. It seems as though the only non-metro Atlanta teams that get pre-playoff coverage by the AJC come from either Lowndes or Houston County. Even in the weeks leading up to Camden’s 2008 State Championship win in Atlanta, CCHS was hardly a blip on AJC’s radar. Yet the Wildcats continued to win and AJC continued to ignore them. Perhaps it’s simply the fact that CCHS is a 6-hour drive from downtown Atlanta and can’t justify sending a reporter there to watch a piddly little South GA team play. Nevermind that even when CCHS plays Hoover, AL, they still go relatively unnoticed by AJC. Is it a conspiracy? Probably not – I just think the AJC sometimes forgets that those of us in this part of the state are Georgians too. Go ‘Cats!

EagleNationRising

Leslie: The AJC does not want to see a number of programs from South of the Gnat line succeed. Read the article that the AJC produced making the argument that Camden County would be better suited in Region 1-AAAAA. The AJC proclaims that Camden County plays 7 region road games per season. Of course, common sense tells all of us that Camden County has only played 7 region road games over the past four seasons.

Camden County has the easiest regular season region schedule. However, Camden has had the most challenging road to the quarterfinals having to face two teams that were nationallt ranked during the season in beating Northside in 2008 and Lowndes County on Friday night.

I would love nothing more than to see three programs South of the Gnat line join Newnan in the semifinals. I would absolutely love it! I honestly believe that it is possible. With the exception of Todd Holcomb’s favorite Peachtree Ridge, I believe that all of the metro Atlanta programs can win. The home teams have the advantage.

It will be a fun Friday night. Good luck to the Wildcats of Camden County, Newnan and our Region 1-AAAAA brothers at Colquitt County! The same to all of the metro Atlanta programs

Go Eagles!!!

Just a Thought

November 23rd, 2009
1:20 pm

Perhaps the talk of the soft schedule is not meant to be taken as an insult to the caliber of player at Camden. Instead it might be the fact that by playing smaller less physical teams towards the end of the year Camden is able to have a healthier team compared to other region teams coming into the playoffs. Having fresh players at the end of the season can mean more than talent if alot of the talent for these other teams is banged up from a rougher regular season. Just a thought, curious to here what others think along these lines.

GrayRam

I also find it curious that Camden is allowed to write a check and get the majority of their region games played at home. They have played a total of 6 away region games in the last 4 years.

Go Camden Co!!! As I said last eeek, the family is now united and we want Camden to go all the way! I do not expect Camden to meet any better team, over the next coming weeks, than they faced in Lowndes. If they continue to play as well as they did Friday night they will go all the way! As a Ga HS football fan from Tenn with brothers in St.Marys and Valdosta, I know of what I speak.

Camden simply has a fine program to develop players, excellent tradition and an excellent coach. Their players are disciplined and execute well and that characteristic goes a long way in high school football (or any football).

I pick Lassiter to beat Colquitt unless the Pack uncorks their offense.

GrayRam – With Camden playing the home games, the away teams in region 3 end up making more money if Camden were to play them at there home. If Camden played at the Away teams home in our region, not to many fans show up due to them knowing it is going to be a blowout. Would you pay $8 to see your team get beat bad, NO. So why not make a road trip and earn the school some money toward there program. Just smart on there end…

Dang ENR! Man, you really laid it out for us today….I’m laughin’, but i can’t argue with anything that you’ve posted today….however i have always liked Todd for one reason or another. At some point people need to get over the idea that Camden County and its fans are somehow afraid of region 1 and its teams. Camden’s talent should no longer be in question by any region in the state. Hell, they’ve beaten a Great Lowndes program 4 out of the last 6 meetings. They swapped helmet paint with a very talented Northside Eagle squad and survived a hard fought battle. THERE IS MORE TO HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES THAN JUST FOOTBALL! Imagine their girls’ basketball team traveling on Tuesday evening. It is a THREE hour bus ride to Colquitt for these kids to play a TWO hour contest, and then THREE hours back Camden High School. THATS 8hrs! I say back to the high school because even then they are still not “HOME”! Even Camden haters have to have a heart for these “CHILDREN” (some just 14 yrs. old!). Now imagine following that up with important region tilt against powerhouse Lowndes two or three days later. Seriously people, Camden isn’t awarded a state title by winning it’s region. Every year they go through the playoffs and potentially play the best that every region has to offer. And apparently playing a region 1 foe (deepest region in state)in the second round is sort of a built in clause. Like the BCS and Nortre Dame i assume. Please people, let it go

SWD Panther, and Jarmal………The Savannah programs are not forced to do anything. They see Camden as the flagship for their region and are fine with the revenue it brings. They make more money traveling to Camden than they do for a home game. The economy is tough everywhere and Savannah is no different. These schools are going to play 5A regardless of where Camden is placed. So their chances of winning a title or advancing through the playoffs are not changed by Camden’s presence. If anything it gives them a once a year glimpse at true 5A competition before the playoffs arrive. Which they will every year for the four best teams in that region, regardless of their record or talent.

To quote Olivia Netwon-John “Its gonna get physical, physic!”

Hard games to pick. PTR and Camdem aren’t the same teams today they were in the begining of the season when they both got beat.

For PTR, irrespective of what ENR will say about the MAC, it is a long ride and that can take the edge off. All teams this weekend have to be sharp and the ride might do it to PTR. Slight edge to NSWR – by 3.

Newnan at Grayson – I’d look pretty silly if I didn’t pick Grayson now wouldn’t I? ;) While the ride to Grayson is not as long, home field is a good thing to have. Grayson defense holds and the offense grinds it out. Very tough game but Grayson finds the way again. Grayson by 7.

Camdem at NG. Everyone talks about Camdem’s “soft” schedule but they have found a way to beat some of the top teams in GA. Another very hard fought game with the slight edge to the home team – NG by 3.

Colquit at Lassiter. I have no personal knowledge of either team. If CC can shut down the pass even some, they win. Home field and the bus ride favor Lassiter. If Mason get free reign, Katy bar the door! The added factor of the teacher and student as coaches ratchets things up a lot. I don’t know enought to predict anything past it will be one heck of a game!

VoiceOfReason

Camden fans aren’t doubting their team, they just realize the task at hand because of their experience from last years championship run. They beat the odds on favorite last week (BARELY) and are rewarded with “14 hours” of bus riding wrapped around 4 qrts. of football with an undefeated highly ranked North Gwinnett squad on its home field. Should they survive that ordeal, they can look foward to possible back to back weekends to the dome….easily 12 to 13 hour roundtrips….each week!

Camden – NG winner takes state. Lassiter lights up plowboys. Grayson – Newnan 0-0 going into triple overtime. PTR-NSWR – Hard to see a team that loses a home game to a non-playoff team making the semis, but who knows? More importantly, who cares?

Fred

HEY NEWNAN FANS – If you are coming to the game on Friday at Grayson, don’t trust your GPS or other mapping solution. Those will take you through the back roads with construction and traffic islands that will make it tougher for your buses. Take US78 east through Snellville. Turn left onto Cooper Rd at Rudy’s Bar. You will pass Hope Hollow on your right after the first light but don’t turn there. Go to the second light (about 3 miles from 78, maybe 4) and turn right onto Hwy 20. About 1 – 1.5 miles at the first traffic light turn right onto Hope Hollow Rd. The entrance to the school is about 200 yards on the left. If you miss it, you probably don’t need to be driving! :)

Your maping software or GPS will probably have you go past Cooper and Rosebud to Langley, then to Hope Hollow Lane and finally onto Hope Hollow. There is road contruction going on there and traffic calming circles to slow down traffic that can be a pain for the buses. The other way is faster anyway.

Have a safe trip up to Grayson and we will see you at the stadium!

The day after football season ends, Camden’s Mighty Wildcats want nothing to do with region 3-AAAAA. Savannah school have long dominated the other sports with occassional suprises from the proud Wildcat athletes.Basketball, track, baseball(not as much). Those Savannah kids aren’t cryin’ on the sidelines during a 50-6 lashing from Camden in football. It is fun to read all the comments from Packer fans regarding a scrimmage in which their coach came to make a statement rather than use it for what it’s intended for…not to mention, their famed coach violated agreed upon rules. Has anyone considered Lassiter’s coach Lindsey may have been the brains behind Hoover’s success? I’m not saying who’s going to win…none of us will know that ’til Friday at around 10:00. See you all Friday night, right? I’m sure you are all making the drive to “Frank”

Northside should get by P-ridge with relative ease.

Grayson’s stands were a quarter empty last week…didn’t seem like much of a home-field advantage. All defense, little offense. Take Newnan.

Lassiter will have the best atmosphere… and the student will best the teacher, much as Aristotle bested Plato, and Plato did Socrates (for those hi IQ Lassiterians :) .

The best matchup for pure football should be North Gwinnett vs Camden. Take North Gwinnett if for no other reason than the long bus trip. But they are by far the most balanced team in 5A. Regardless, the winner of this game should win the state title.

Grayson Student–Roswell may have had the smallest team in all of 5A this year. But our offense line cleared enough holes that our tailbacks had exceptional years. On defense, even your line, with all the beef you have didn’t have much success until that 8 1/2 minute drive in the 4th quarter when you used “William Perry Jr” in the backfield to convert a couple of 4th downs. It baffles me how Roswell keeps winning depite being so small on the line of scrimmage…..quickness and heart must still matter. BTW…be proud of your school, it’s a special place!

PROSKILLpat: Peachtree Ridge runs some shotgun, but primarily runs Paul Johnson’s offense. The QB is Nick Lombardo (#13) who is a dual threat. Their big playmaker is Brad Roby (#10) who goes both ways and is a threat on punt returns. However, they are fumble prone, fumbling 6 times vs Kell, losing 3. Defensively they put pressure on the QB & are stout against the run. I know some people think that because PTR got punished by Lowndes & NSWR beat Lowndes, therefore NSWR should punish PTR. Using that logic, since GT lost to Miami & VT beat Miami, then there is no way GT beats VT. GT 28 VT 23. Now, with that being said, NSWR should win.

White Trash, you didn’t really just state that Camden County has a strong swim team?

The 5A state swim meet is dominated by Gwinnett County, along with a few teams from Cobb, Cherokee, and North Fulton.

Colquitt County has a tradition of turning out champion divers. And Savannah Arts along with Glynn Academy sometimes make a good showing. I also see that Houston County put together 4 boys for a relay in 2009 to score 11th place.

But believe me, Camden County isn’t even on the radar for swimming in 5A.

Northside WR will not make it past Peachtree Ridge. They barely beat Lowndes and Valdosta. They held on for dear life against Colquitt and would have lost if not for a fumble in the last minute. The only time they’ve put anything together in the second half was against Union Grove and had UG had a QB that could pass Northside would have been beat. Not to mention the disaster against a Warner Robins team that had a less than explosive offense. At this point, a complete team will walk all over Northside. Sorry eagles but Peachtree Ridge will end your season. Better now than the embarrassment you’d have against Newnan/Grayson/Camden.

Regardless of money, it is only fair for Camden to play most of their games at home. At least 3-4 of the Savannah teams play in the same exact stadium. The only real “away” region games the Savannah teams ever play are in Bradwell and Camden. Camden’s one or two region “road” games per year are at least as many “road” region games any of the Savannah teams have ever played.

Upon reflection about the garbage I’ve read here about a 2 loss Colquitt team as well as the way I’ve seen Lassiter’s offense score an unbelievable amount of TD’s from an obscene # of different receivers, I’m calling for Lassiter by atleast 14. I think we’ll be held to fewer points than 70, but a win by 14 nontheless. Good luck to all student athletes from both teams!

I was on fire with my picks I only missed the Stephenson/Colquitt game…… I was dead on the Camden/Lowndes game…. heck you even missed that one and your a Region 3 guy???? Woodstock was never even close….. so your predictions are waning the closer to the dome we get….. My predictions are coming in at 22-2 Round three predictions are……….Northside WR over the Ridge in a tight one by 6 pts………… North Gwinnett by 7 over Camden……….Lassiter by 14 pts over Colquitt……….and finally my heart pick Newnan by 2 over Grayson…..of course the heart pick has got to be partial loyalty…..I have to say though much respect to the #1 Grayson team they have handled the bullseye with grace and their bloggers/fans are tremendous….

Well, this is our fourth straight year of making the playoffs (Our 7th year as a school). ‘07 was our only year that we exited before the quarter finals since our first playoff birth in ‘06. That year we beat North Cobb (Ranked 1st in state at the time) in the first round and lost in the second round to Roswell on a crappy call. I would say that’s not too bad considering how young we are as a school.

I will tell you that Colquit is impressive but I also will tell you they may be the more tired team?? if it is close going into the 4th and Lassiter is under 30 points and Colquit within a TD… I give Colquit a good shot at winning they like Newnan are a second half team….

Quinn: I have respect for your program. I think what Blair Armstrong did & what Bill Ballard is still doing is very impressive. One of the most impressive HS players I have seen was Cameron Heyward, who was like watching a grown man play with children, when he was at the Ridge. Beating Warner Robins @ the Dome in 2006 was probably one of the top wins in school history. (BTW, my wife was really chapped that night-she being a Demon grad) The only reason I would pick NSWR is because they do not lose at the MAC. This is in no way disrespecting the Lions- I know winning streaks are made to be broken. You may want to direct the disrespect at the NSWR fans-especially after you lost to Lowndes. Previous comments about not bothering to show up at the MAC were tongue-in-cheek. Good luck to the Lions Friday night.

the newnan and grayson game is very tough game to guess. i mean with two great defenses a lot could be decided on field posistion and turnovers. as much as id like to see 3/4 teams from gwinnett, i think newnan is the best team on the left side this year. just barely. i have them by 3 points but in a game like this where its gonna be low scoring it can go either way.

I, however will be surprised if your D will cause 8 TD’s when he’s only thrown 5, compared to his 54 TD’s. BTW…he’s got around 12 great receivers he throws to. He has an uncanny ability to find the open receiver. I’m sure CC has their own strengths and I’m admittedly a little afraid to find out what they are. 1 of the 2 wins.

well cchswildcat86 if you are referencing the Camden Newnan game last year it was not the Defense that cost Newnan……… the offense turned the ball over and Camden’s first two TD’s were a drive of 18 yds and then the second came on a flukish 4th down play ….truth be told when Newnan scored in the third to make it 21-7 it should have been tied…Camden NEVER sustained a drive from their side of the field…. all night… again it was not the D…. you need to roll tape again….The defense from the last two seasons has been efficient proud and strong Newnan is 25 -1 since the Now head coach last year D coordinator has taken control of this ship.. if you are looking past last year your argument can not apply to these high school kids…..they are not 15 yr vets…. and this coach was not in place…their adjustments at halftime of each playoff game have been phenominal….I will tell you this if Grayson wins by two td’s it will not be because of the Defense!

thank you inthatrenches nobody else realizes how Newnan really screwed ourselves out of that game last year. WE LOST IT!!! We just screwed up that game and Camden is a great team but I honestly think we were better and should have one , but as shown they obviously played a better game. But yes, our offense was the root of our problem and really if we didnt freak out and start passing the whole game after trailing e would have been fine because our running back was doing great when we ran but our offensive coordinator when crazy and started pulling crazy plays out the wazoo and passing all the time. but oh well the newnan defense this year is sick and will hold up against grayson. Weve already seen a runningback more slippery than pemberton whether you believe it or not. Tay Willis and after his great performance against Newnan he got way more offers and notably one from LSU so yes that kid is good. Newnan will win 17-9. Down at the half well calm down and our offense will adjust. Grayson will kick a field goal and score a td but have an xp blocked.

Lassiter Fan- why were you confident that Lassiter would have pulled ahead in that scrimmage? our RB broke a 75 yard TD on our first offensive play. we ran a kick back for a TD and blocked a Lassiter punt. there was nothing to suggest that Lassiter was on the brink of making a comeback from being down 2 scores…

the scrimmage doesnt mean much but it did allow everyone to see Lassiter’s weaknesses. 1. Lassiter’s defense is soft up the middle. 2. they have horrible special teams play and do not cover kicks well at all…looks like we might have some big kick returns this week like we did against Stephenson. 3. we can get pressure on Matson by just rushing 4 down linemen.

im sure Lassiter is better than they were in the scrimmage but so is CC. the fact that CC’s defense held Lassiter to 14 points in 3 quarters still says something about how Lassiter can be stopped.

Colquitt County Underdog:

I was impressed by Colquitt’s special team’s play against Stephenson, but don’t think that in any way relates to the scrimmage. For one, Lassiter didn’t have any of their starters in on special teams. It was all JV and freshmen. That won’t be the case this Friday. Also, I wouldn’t read into the blocked kicks too much since Rush was rushing kicks even after both teams agreed not to. Lassiter wasn’t prepared for it. Maybe not much of an excuse, but it wasn’t even a real game.

You wanna talk about weaknesses? How about the fact that Colquitt’s DBs got beat deep multiple times in that SCRIMMAGE. You know how much I’m reading into that? Nothing at all because it doesn’t mean anything come Friday.

You Colquitt folks need to get over that scrimmage because none of it matters. No, it doesn’t tell you how Lassiter can be stopped because the starting receivers weren’t even decided at that point. Lassiter took a few games to find out who their playmakers were going to be. I mean, come on, Sprayberry held them to 14 points and they did it in a full game. Does that mean Sprayberry has a better D than Colquitt?

I really do hope you guys think you’re gonna have an easy time with our defense. Yea, North Forsyth and SG might have put some points up, but don’t forget that both those games were pretty much over by halftime. Much of the scoring was their starters against our backups.

As for our kick coverage, it is far from horrible. But your return guy is just nasty. If all those D-1 athletes from Stephenson couldn’t contain him, our slow unathletic white boys from Cobb County sure cant. Luckily we have a secret weapon. Coach Lindsey. He is coming up with a plan to contain him.(I’ll give you a hint–it involves not kicking anything within 20 yards of him.)

Have a safe trip up and come by the tailgate!

Just wanted to discuss the Lassiter vs Colquitt game.

After watching many Lassiter games as an adult, I have come to the conclusion that it does not matter what caliber athletes the other team has on their defense. It is a no huddle system designed to catch defenses off balance and allows for many big plays. The only way I don’t see Lassiter scoring 40+ points from here on out is if a team brings a defensive line like Lassiter has never seen. If they don’t apply pressure on Mason he will pick any high school apart. Mason has a great pocket presence as he feels pressure very well, keeps his eyes down field, and has the ability to get downfield.

Also, relying upon the results of the Colquitt Lassiter scrimmage is not a wise move. Early mistakes and missed assignments restult in opposing big plays. Clearly, both teams have improved in that regard. Unless Colquitt employs the same style offense as Lassiter I just don’t see how they can keep up outside of forcing turnovers on a routine basis.

On a side note, I want to make it clear that I dont know anybody on the team and I am adult looking at this from an unbias point of view.

The defense has done a good job creating turnovers from what I have seen. It seems like every game starts off with the other team turning the ball over and getting behind early. The defense is underrated in my eyes. For instance, they gave up 49 points last week but only after Lassiter was way out in front and the JV squad played most of the 4th quarter. I believe they gave up 14 in the first half. The rushing defense seems to be pretty good between the tackles. They lack the athletes in the secondary as far as I am concerned.

IMO…My picks for this friday are

Northside WR over Peachtree Ridge. (Though I would like P’tree to win)
North Gwinnett over Camden County. (Home field important in this one)
Lassiter over Colquitt County. (Lassiter “O” too much for CC “D”)
Grayson over Newnan. (This one could go either way. Home field a +)

Once again, I may be as wrong as a soup sandwich, but my picks are as good as any!!

Go Peachtree Ridge and most of all…GO HOYAS!!(Next year)

cchswildcat86, inthatrenches, Ok you are both talking about the past. Both Camden and Newnan were both good last year and good this year. Both had great Defenses and continue to carry over this year. This year Championship can goe either way, everyone is good which makes this year better than the past. So get of the high horse and just recognize that both teams are good and hope for a rematch.

Reeze’s Pieces………Colquitt @ Lassiter……..First, of all forget about a shootout with the Pack , Colquitt’s defense won’t allow it..Colquitt’s defense is Not South Gwinnette. Second lets not forget about Colquitt’s offense ,any team that gives up 49 is suspect J.V playing or not…..Not the type of defense that will shine against Colquitt. Now I am not the smartest in the world ,but if I were Propst I would make every effort to keep the ball out of Mason’s hands ,I think we’ll see ball control from the Pack……Ferguson may put up 300 plus all pourpose against this defense of Lassiters………Colquitt by 10…………Pridge @ Northside…………Hadn’t heard many nice things about the Ridge ,But as always they are good in the playoffs….. This one could be a close one ,It all depends on how many mistakes the Eagles will make or not Make…Northside’s offense has put the defense in so many jams this season it’s not funny…….Northside defense is solid and has bailed the offense out all season long……Mistake free ball is needed for the Eagles to win ,If we come out like we did vs U.G and Chapell Hill the Eagles season will be over ……..Northside by 6 in a defensive battle……..Newnan vs Grayson….. 0 points in the first half against Valdosta and MLK ,I don’t think this will work against Grayson…I think Newnans only hope is if the passing attack is good ,if not , the Newnan first half sluggish offense will put them in a hole that they won’t recover from…….Grayson by 10………Camden @ NG……..The determining factor for this one : Can NG stop Days and the wing -T of Camden.. I am sure Camden’s defense will put a hurting on any of the remaining playoff teams……..But how is Camdens pass defense?…………Can’t call this one ,it’s a toss up

It is true that we have had special teams breakdowns with kickoff coverage. This can and will be corrected. Also, the silly turnovers on our end of the field must be corrected as well. Without the interception and kickoff return, Union Grove would have been shut out. As long as we don’t beat ourselves, Peachtree Ridge will go home unhappy. NHS 28 PR 10.

Camden over North Gwinnett
Newnan over Grayson
Lassiter over Colquitt (sorry, one too many long bus trips, Colquitt would win if the game was in Moultrie)

Good description HSF Talk. Furthermore, our JV offense also played the entire 4th quarter against S. Gwinnett’s starters, therefore, drives stalled and the ball ended up in S. Gwinnett’s hands more often than normal. I believe the JV offense could have scored on them, but it appeared Lindsey’s play calling became very conservative. Our JV QB is awesome too. I’ve seen him play in regular season JV games where he’s thrown for over 300 yards by halftime. Lassiter is pretty deep on offense. I hope this is a sign of good things to come for the next several years. We’ll see.

The PRIDGE deal is strange this year. Have not played a clean game as far as ball handling in weeks—yet they win.NG same senerio–could have gone either way.the defense has notgiven up any offensive TDs the past two weeks. ( only one to NG after turnover)They probably are the least respected of the remaining eight–that s not a bad spot to be in.Everyone equates there season to the disaster at Lowndes—so short sighted. IF they can play a complete game –they can beat anybody remaining —as tough as it is to go on the road—–oh wait they did that as 4 seed 5 straight games in 06. All being said they win a close one if they win the tunover battle, if they do what they did against Kell and Brookwood NSR is in the clear. Gotta love being the underdog at playoff time.

GOPACKGO

From the Moultrie Observer. Offenses seem to be the same. It’s gonna be a great game.

Packers coach Rush Propst, who coached against a Tim Tebow-led team several years ago, says Mason will be the best quarterback he has faced.

“He’s got a cannon for an arm,” Propst said. “And he plays with such confidence.

“And with those numbers, I think he’s the state player of the year.”

And Propst rejected the idea that perhaps the Packers might be able get inside Mason’s helmet.

“He doesn’t rattle,” he said.

Still, the Packers hope to be able to pressure Mason much as they did Stephenson quarterback Jordan Tarver in the 22-21 playoff victory in Clarkston last week.

Tarver threw three interceptions, including two in the deciding fourth quarter.

His other, which came with Colquitt County defensive end Quan Daniels hanging on to him, was intercepted by William McCrary and returned for a second-quarter touchdown that tied the game.

And the Packers should not be surprised by much of what the Lassiter offense throws at them on Friday.

The two schools met in an abbreviated scrimmage in Marietta back in August in which the Packers led 24-13 when the game was called in the third quarter because of lightning.

And the two offenses use the same playbook and terminology, Propst said.

“They use the exact, verbatim offense we use,” Propst said. “It’s a carbon copy.”

I know the Packers will be prepared as they do see almost the same offense in practice daily. However, they’ve never seen it run by such an impressive QB. Propst’s offense does not produce anywhere near the production Lassiter’s does. It is said, we have not seen a strong D before, however, I read on an AJC blog where Grayson students and fans were saying Roswell’s D was the best they’ve played against all season. Frankly, I wasn’t that impressed with them. I, again, think this game could go either way. Although, I would not get too excited about shutting Lassiter’s offense down. That won’t happen.

Whatever, EAGLE 1, and the rest – Your creampuff overrated region was gonna send four teams to the finals last year, in reality none made it into the semis, two of the four were slaughtered and Lowndes was so humiliated they started a fight. That Wienie Robbins 10-0 loss to Grayson doesn’t mean you’re competitive with anyone, Grayson plays to win by ten. If they’re two scores ahead they’ll run three times and punt so their D can get some playing time. Obviously you couldn’t score so they didn’t need to score more than 10. Bottom line you’re only great in your own minds and when you play each other. You know what kind of regions have all these tough competitive games? The kind where no one is great, they’re all mediocre so they have a lot of close games, like Wienie Robbins – Northside Wienie Robbins earlier this year.

SouthGArules- I wasn’t trying to attack you, I’ve just been puzzled by the wide range of statements you’ve made on us. About Cameron Heyward, yeah, he was a freak. I’ve never seen such a dominant player and he will probably end up being a 1-2 round draft pick when he leaves Ohio St.

The Term “Peachtree Ridged”. I’d like to point out last year in the playoffs, Coffee County came to Suwanee and went home 38-0 (Who woulda thought that the backups, JV players, and even some Freshmen would play in the third round of the playoffs), we don’t have a term “Coffee County’d”, It can happen to any team on a long busride.

The NSWR-PRHS game. I am shocked by the 35-17 and 28-10 predictions. I’m pretty sure it will be a very low scoring game, as both teams have stronger defenses than offenses. I think Peachtree Ridge will come closer than 18 points of winning ;) , but I could be wrong if we shoot ourselves in the foot multiple times like we did at Lowndes. I think it will be a good game, I give NSWR the edge since they are at home, but I think the Lions will bring their A game and could definitely win if we we play our best.

I personally think Camden is the best team in the state right now. If they get through North Gwinnett this week, I predict they will win it all, and certainly make the Finals. (Sorry Colquitt/Lassiter).

Warhawk’s employer may want to submit his name for drug testing if he really thinks Apalachee will win the AAAA state championship. Apalachee’s Cinderella season comes to a violent and abrupt halt on Friday night when the superior speed, talent and tradition of the Griffin Bears come to Barrow County.

Friday night will be a bad night for Gwinnett and Cobb teams. Camden beats North Gwinnett. Newnan whips Grayson. Colquitt County takes down Lassiter. Northside downs Peachtree Ridge.

I didn’t understand how Lassiter, a team with a dismal football history, suddenly become a force. Then I saw that Coach Lindsey came in from Hoover. Not sure playing a region schedule with perpetually weak Cobb County schools has prepared the Trojans to go up against a South Georgia school that plays serious smash mouth football. He deserves many accolades for what he has accomplished, but I think the curtain is going to fall on Lassiter’s season.

Hoya Chuck,

I like some of your picks:

But Northside Warner Robins is too much for the Ridge. Take NSWR Eagles.
Camden County will run the table on North Gwinette.
Colquitt County Defense will show Lassiter what it’s like to get hit by that defense. Lassiter will not score the points that they have been scoring when they were playing against those Metro Atlanta teams. Ask Stephenson.Take the Colquitt County Packers.

Now Grayson is a different story. I believe that this will be a show down battle between the two. But Grayson will prevail.

I just think Coach Propst has the edge over Coach Lindsey. plain and simple. im not really sure if i will be able to make the trip to Marietta since my family from North Carolina is visiting for Thanksgiving but good luck and i intend to watch the game on GPB if i cant go.

justinfh88,

Sometimes its the offense and sometimes its the defense but at the end of the game its the total points that count. For what its worth, Roswell didn’t generate near the offense Grayson did. It happens. Some accept it and some don’t. I help coach some youth sports and have learned that the game is the sum of ALL of the plays. For every call you feel went against Roswell, there was another that went against Grayson – either an active call or a call that was missed. I felt the refs tried to let the boys play even though I didn’t like what they did or did not call.

NEWNAN POP,

I left off one direction. When coming I285N from I20, do not take the Memorial Drive exit even though maps/GPS will direct you to. Go two exits north to the Stone Mountain Freeway exit and go east. It will be quicker and Memorial Drive has had its challenges in recent years. St Mtn Fwy will turn back into US78 and take you to Snellville and on to the stadium.

I think both teams are great teams. It is easy to say Roswell beat themselves but a good defense creates opportunities for itself and its offense as you well know. It is no secret that our middle pass defense has been less than stellar all year but they looked much better last week. I have watched our safety run people down when I did not think it was going to be possible. There were some size mismatches on the corners for us last week (where DOES Roswell get those big guys from? :) ) and our guys did really well. Yep, they got beat a few times but more often than not they made the play. I have said all along that I expect it to be a very hard and close game.

Talk about can’t wait for the game….. With vacation and holidays, today was my Friday and I’m ready for the game TONIGHT! :)

If it is a run away by either team, I will shocked. I won’t predict the final score but I am on record as saying Grayson by 3. I can’t wait for the game. Like Newnan Pop said, the team with mistakes loses. See you at the game!

To the Colquitt County folks who think the fact they play in 1-AAAAA means they have an inherent advantage over everybody else.

I got to to see 2 of your non-Valdosta, non-Warner Robins teams a few years back in the playoffs and Roswell beat the snot out of both of them.

Just because you play in the same region as Lowndes and NWR doesn’t mean you share in their success. And beating Stephenson is not that big a deal.

Lassiter is going to score a lot of points and come up with a turnover or 2 that will produre more points. The Packers will likely score a lot of points as well, just not enough.

Citing a pre-season scrimmage game that was weather-shortened is pretty lame.

To the Grayson folks, I’d be a little worried if I’m facing a defense that has more size than a typical JV team. Roswell’s undersized defense allowed exactly one scoring drive the entire game. The other 17 points were courtesy of Grayson’s special teams, which did an outstanding job.

Grayson’s defense is top notch. But when the Rams face a team with the size to match their offense, they’re going to have problems.

I can understand why the Grayson stands were not full last week. You have to really be a fan to pay money and watch that offense for 4 quarters. It’s effective, but I don’t think I could watch it week after week.

A Lassiter-Grayson matchup would be the ultimate in contrasting styles. Might even pay to watch that one.

6AAAAA maybe you should check the history on Colquitt County. We are bouncing back from 9 years of horrible coaching. I am sure you don’t remember the 17 years in a row that Colquitt County made the playoffs, possibly because your team was never there. NO one has said we would win. We know it’s gonna be a great game. Just stating the Lassiter hasn’t played a defense like Colquitt County yet. The only team who really scored on us was Lowndes. 4 turnovers in the Red Zone will allow a team to do that though. Friday night will show who is the better team. Win or lose the Packers have had a great season for a team who wasn’t supposed to win more than 5 games.

I agree with most of your comments. Grayson faced a tough defense in Warner Robins and only scored 10. Roswell’s defense really came to play. I dont think they had a 1 loss season by accident, they were good.

Against Newnan whichever team can avoid losing any fumbles will win by a field goal or maybe 7.

The certainty with which some posters predict a win for their team is amazing to me. Every one of these teams is a strong team that could go all the way. Posters who predict the outcomes with such certainty have not lived long enough to develop a disdain for the taste of shoe leather.

Now, I think NSWR, Grayson, and Camden have the edge in their respective games. I have no idea how to predict a preference with Lassiter in the game. But, at the same time I think the above teams have an edge in their games, I can also easily see how the other team could win in each game.

Let’s take P Ridge vs NSWR as an example. I would give the edge to NSWR largely because they have proven themselves and it is a home game. But P Ridge could easily win that game. PTR has a very strong defense regardless of one game early in the season. They have seen the Wing T many times and they know how to stop it. Realistically, I think NSWR scores 7, 10, 14, or 17 points. I doubt they will score more than that unless PTR collapses and I do not think that will happen at this point in the playoffs. So how much will PTR score? There is no question they are capable of putting up 3 scores against any team in the playoffs. If they give up 10 and score 14, game over and PTR is the winner. It will be an exciting football game. NSWR has to be very careful not to get “Northsided” late in the game after ENR leaves by allowing 3 quick touchdowns for their opponents.

Both Newnan and Grayson have awesome defenses. Neither should take the other likely, the result could come out either way.

Exactly the same can be said for North and Camden. The most critical play in the North v Camden game already came when North won the coin toss. And the result is that this game is toss up. These are going to be 3 exciting football games. I suspect out of these 6 teams only one of them will score more than 21 points in this round. And I do not know which one that might be. These are 6 tough defenses folks.

Now, let’s consider Lassiter. They can put up a ton of points very quickly. With 70 points in 48 minutes of playing time, that means that Lassiter scores a touchdown every 5 minutes. And that includes time for the other team to have the ball. They score almost every trip down the field. It will take both pressure on the QB and GREAT downfield coverage to stop a Lassiter drive. The opponents can slow the game with a grinding run offense, but they still need to score pretty much every trip down the field. I do not know if any team at the High School level can do that. It will take 5 or 6 outstanding DB’s and a solid D-Line to put the wood to Lassiter. It will probably take a team that practices against themselves as a throwing team, to have the coverage experience to make it a tough game for Lassiter. Maybe it is Colquitt. I just do not know. At this point I would have to pick Lassiter as the favorite to win it all. It promises to be very exciting football.

I think Georgia football fans are in for a real treat in the next couple of weeks. This year’s 5A champion could be any of these 8 teams. This is very different from other divisions where a team like the Red Elephants is clearly dominant.

SanityRules,

I am not so sure that the South GA folks are so full of themselves as they are just confident. When you have programs that produce consistently year in and year out, your confidence level grows. Grayson, like some others, is a new program and just doesn’t have the history that others do. Other programs have been through a lot of down years and are coming back. I hate to speak for others but I think we all know we don’t have the history and the respect that comes with it. It doesn’t mean that our programs aren’t good and we don’t support them, it just means we have to prove ourselves each week.

There are some posters whose confidence can make them seem full of themselves, especially to those of us that know we too have a good program. The lack of respect to our as yet unproven programs grates on us. Then there are those that I think purposely post things that they know will generate comments. :)

Anyway, is it Friday night yet?

Here is the bottom line on the Lassiter/Colquitt County game. Both of these teams are fully prepare and able to win. Lassiter, no doubt their best advantage is their QB. Colquitt has a powerful defense as well as an explosive running game. Also don’t under estimate Colquitt’s QB. He has an impressive arm too having thrown around 2,000 yards leads Region 1 in passing and Colquitt runs the ball a good deal or else his numbers would be higher as well.

I have no idea who will win this game but I have learned over the years no matter how good your team may be or how good the opposing team may be, never assume anything, because in Georgia High School Football, ANYTHING can happen.

Both teams will be more than ready to play Friday night, it will be a good game regardless of which team wins.

Good Luck to Lassiter and to Colquitt County, both of these team are outstanding.

I hope that that the TDC at brookwood finally sees what I’ve been saying for the last 26 games…Mark Crews sucks as a coach and Ben McClane in not a quarterback…PTR put the ball on the ground 6 times and we only picked up one.. scored a touchdown mind you, but our offense.. was the worst. based on the play calling. We could move the ball by running in but when you have a coach with no imagination, no real strategy or football sense what do u have? I feel sorry for the boys..Please fire Mark Crews… if he was at Valdosta.. he would have been gone. last two years.. 6-5 and now 6-6…Fire Mark Crews and he whole sorry staff. PTR had ;put that ball on the turf too much this season.. a good team with a good coach will kill them… so when you go down to Warner robbins.. I don’t see it as a good sign.. they might score 50 on you as Lyondes did….Brookwood Coach and the Coach at Stevenson…. fire them both.. new blood.. they both suck with all the talent these two teams have had in the last few years.. fire them both……

6-AAAAA Observor: First off you saying that Colquitt County beating Stephenson is “not that big of a deal” shows that you don’t know what your talking about.

Second, Lassiter gives up a heck of a lot of points to be praised so much. You have to have a well balanced team. Lassiter has a heck of a good QB no doubt about it and they have a great shot at winning, but so does Colquitt County.

Colquitt County has speed, powerful and strong defense, great special teams, great kick returner as well as a good QB who has thrown for nearly 2,000 yards, and considering how much Colquitt runs the ball, that is impressive. On average Colquitt has been giving up 11 points a game and has had 2 shutouts and has won most of their games in the second half.

My point is fans from Lassiter or Colquitt should not be doing to much trash talking because either one of these teams could walk away with the win.

Packers have played very, very well on the road this season and they are a second half team. They came back in a game against Thomasville early in the season 19-6 with 10:04 left in the game, Colquitt County scored four straight unanswered touchdowns to beat the Bulldogs 34-19. That was in the second came of their season. Colquitt plays hard right until the final seconds of a ball game.

Neither of these teams should be under estimated. After all neither team got to the 3rd round of the playoffs because they are week or not that good. To get this far you are good and both Lassiter and Colquitt are good football teams.

My the best team win, good luck to both!

Newnan’s offense choked and panicked the Defense of Camden was the bellcow for Camden they kept pressure on our QB Russell Powell all night… the Camden offense on the other hand could not sustain a drive all night over 35 yds Grayson student your team is fantastic if they win they will earn it….these two teams are defense first….. that makes for a classic battle of field position, assignments, special teams, and turnovers I look forward to the Game and pray for an injury free game I believe this could be the most physical game of the year!!

6AAAAA observor, I take issue with beating Stephenson was not that big of a deal. O yes it was, Stephenson had the most talented team (16 D1 players) in Class 5A. Obviously, you are not familar with Stephenson football. I travel all over the state watching High School Football games and Stephenson had one of the best teams in the state this year. In the colquitt game, Stephenson got out coached at the end of the game. Colquitt has a really good coach. In August of 2009 on a hot steamy night, I saw the Lasso offense (Hudson can throw it on a rope when given time to do so) get man handled up front by Colquitt and put alot of pressure on Mason. Lassiter can not block Colquitt Defensive front and that fact still remains. Lassiter line is not phyical enough to handle their defensive front especially 6′ 6″ Cameron Erving who harassed Mason. This will be the difference in the ball game this friday. Youu should read the newspaper in Moultrie because they infer that since they beat Stephenson, Lassiter will not be a greater challenge for them.

Actually, if you think about it, during our region games there is really no reason to come on here and blog about how great Camden is. Truth of the matter is we all know what a weak region we are in so its really hard to get excited about winning by 40 or more points. Its really hard for us to judge how good our team actually is. The real excitment comes during our nonregion games or during the playoffs when the competition is there. I know thats when I start posting. TrueBlue- the Stephenson RB got a good chunk of those yards on the first drive of the game, including an 18 yard TD run on a 3rd and long when CC was looking for the pass. Yes, Stephenson got a bunch of yardage. Yes, they got a bunch of yards…BUT CC did force 3 INTs and took one back for six. they also forced 2 intentional grounding calls. Colquitt’s defensive line is the strength of the defense. our LBs are not the biggest in the world and thats why they had such a hard time against the Stephenson RB…that guy is a hoss and really tough to bring down because of his size. he got majority of his yards after contact…luckily Lassiter throws it 40 times a game and will play directly into our strengths, pressure from the d-line and tight coverage by the DBs.

i just like the matchup against Lassiter than Stephenson because Stephenson had athletes at every position. if we got in a track meet or weighlifting competition against Stephenson, we would lose every time…however, Lassiter does not have the athletes that Stephenson does. they do have better coaching and more efficient offense but i think our intangibles can handle that better than playing against a bunch of D1 studs.

reality,

I think most people here are good with praising players by name but think it is poor form to criticize them by name. After all, they are KIDS playing game. I understand your frustration with your program and don’t really care if you post your feelings about the coaching staff. After all, they are ADULTS and are paid for their efforts (not that much considering but paid none the less).

As far as the Grayson secondary, everyone has acknowledged that this is not one of our strongest areas. However, they did pretty good against South Gwinnett and Roswell, both teams with a strong passing attack. They weren’t perfect and we all know that but they held when they needed to and limited the passing attack of both teams. And for what it is worth, BYU is where our safety has already signed and if you care to look under “B” in the following NCAA link, you will find that BYU is indeed a D1 school. http://web1.ncaa.org/memberLinks/links.jsp

There is no doubt that Lassiter is a very strong team and the key is shutting down the passing attack. Any team that can do that has a great chance of beating them. All of the teams still playing have got the potential to take the championship. It will all come down to who is the best prepared and makes the fewest mistakes. I can’t wait for Friday night!

Fred,

Thanks for the directions and your comments on Grayson and GA high school football in general.

I expect a large crowd to show from Newnan. We love our Cougars.

This year has been quit the eye opener. We all expected a fine performance from the defense, but after loosing all 11 starters on an offense …what a surprise. I think most of the Cougar fans were mildly shocked with the LaGrange win (on the road) to open the season. After that game, a soft schedule allowed the “O” to mature and gain confidence.
The boys showed a lot of grit by not quiting against LaGrange, and it was an indication of things to come. Winning close games at the end of the season.

I expect to see a game that is physical and low scoring. My biggest concern comes from some of the comments I have read about the condition of Grayson’s field. If it is as sloppy as stated, it should certainly work in Grayson’s favor. Newnan has great speed, and I believe we will need all of it to prevail on Friday night.

We’ll see you on Friday night.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Yes I am up early getting to for my morning jog so I decided what the “GOD’S OF FOOTBALL” had to say this morning. As I read alot of you all comments on this player that player what offense is good what defense wis underated, which coach can’t coach, what coach is better, I have come to some conclusions about football in Georgia. Yes I am a Stephenson Fan as I am a fan of alot of schools, but for you all to say that Coaches need to fired is just stupid immature talk! If you feel that way about whatever team you support my suggestion to you my friend apply for any kind of coaching job whether it be little league or the community rec and see if you can deal with parents, boosters, community leaders and the classroom along with getting players, coaches believing in your system and what the overall goal is.. For some coaches it’s a State title Good.. Other coaches it’s getting these kids into school to futher there education and become productive citizens in this world. Now I have a question for and of you how many of you keep up with players and coaches when the season is over? Are you a fair whether fan who only care about your football tradition or are you involved with your program you so passionatly cheer for? Do you coaching make make sure ther seniors get into school or do they throw them by the way side when the season is over?
What sickens me even more is we have GROWN ASS ADULTS on this site calling out young men for the wins and looses. Hey let me take a page from Coach Cartrell book.. ” If anybody ask you about who lost the game, Tell them I (Coach Gartrell) lost the game and if any person want to come and see me my door is open”. Now you want to talk about a class act, I believe that statement says it all my friends.
Listen regardless the outcome of these football games remember they are just that “GAMES”. Ameture athletes at 15, 16, 17, and 18 year old young men who play this game for the love of it.
Wish these young men who are fortunate enough to recieve a scholarship in any manner and tell them good luck on the next level and in life. As a coach and the end of the day sure it’s good to have numerous state titles and your program is on top evey year in the State of georgia, but on the other hand it’s just as rewarding getting these young men into school to futher there education to. Do you care about State Titles or do you care about furthering a young mans education?
Now what program are you?

Inthatrenches- I am not a CAMDEN FAN its great that people are great followers of there programs, but I go by what have you done lately Grayson should win the title, Northside has one of the greatest coachs in high school football NG gets better every year Camden has had its titles and is trying again to win it. The thing with the teams I have mentioned they have great defenses enough consistance offenses and great coaching and have moved past the third round in recent history. has Newnan made it past the third, and some have said there offense isnt consistance enough to win it. but good try on the band wagon crap you are wrong. if you want a cinderella this year it would be Lassiter. good luck to all teams this friday may the best team on that night win period. History does sometimes have a effect….

Newnan is a underdog on the road but Grayson will not beat them with a running attack I can pretty much be sure of that so if they have any chance it will have to be throwing and running the ball evenly cause newnan defense is to fast and physical to be beat by only the run!

THANKS COLQUITT COUNY UNDERDOG, YES THAT WAS THE BEST AND BIGGEST DEFENSE FRONT STEPHNENSON FACE ALL YEAR. I WOULD LOVE TO FACE YALL NEXT YEAR IN A REGULAR SEASON GAME.NOW GETTING BACK TO THE GAME THIS FRIDAY AGAINST LASSITER. YES LASSITER HAS A NICE QUARTERBACK. ITS JUST I DON’T THINK HIS OFFENSIVE LINE WILL GIVE HIM TIME TO PASS THE BALL DOWN FIELD TO #5 AND #1. PLUS COBB COUNTY SCHOOLS AND GWINNETTI COUNTY SCHOOLS DON’T PLAY DEFENSE LIKE THE TOP TEAMS IN REGION 1-4AAAAA. THE ONLY SCHOOL IN GWINNETTI THAT PLAYS DEFENSE IS GRAYSON. PEACHTREE RIDGE USE TO BUT THIS YEAR THEY GAVE UP 51 TO LOWNDES. NORTH GWINNETTI PLAYS ALITTLE DEFENSE BUT HAS YET TO FACE A TOP TEAM. PEOPLE WANT TO GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR PRATTVILLE. FOOTBALL IN GEORGIA IS WHOLE LOT DIFFERENT THAN IN ALABAMA.

Grayson Student: from one Grayson fan to another, you are truly ignorant. You obviously know nothing of Newnan if you are calling them a two man show, and you are just running your mouth because you can.

Just pull up the Valdosta/Newnan game on Comcast to prove yourself wrong. I’ve watched film of Newnan now for three nights straight, and I’m telling you the defense is all that and then some. It very well may take a defensive and special teams score for the Rams to prevail – I believe we will be hard pressed to sustain many of our 8,9, or 10 minute drives against the Cougars. I believe the same will hold true fo them as well – I’m much less concerned with their offense, as they are not really any different than South, Roswell, etc… I will say this to the Newnan fans who want to open up the passing game on our “slow” defense…Please do!

Newnan fans, just know the players, coaches and knowledgeable fans have the utmost respect for your program, and we are looking forward to a great game Friday evening. We will be praying for your traveling safety.

I enjoy reading the blogs and respect the fans comments cause they love their teams as I do. Fred and most of the folks whom follow Grayson have been generious with directions and such and we are most thankful. It will be a great game to experience friday night. But when you get these trash-talkers from Camden, and if you notice, its almost as if they aren’t worried about their game friday – like they have put themselves in the Championship game already. As for Newnan, they will have their hands full BUT Grayson will face the most physical, hardiest hitting defensive teams they could imagine…good luck…Go GUGAS

CugaDad, absolutely no doubt Newnan will be one of the best – if not THE best – defense we’ve faced this year. BUT, do you really, honestly think Grayson hasn’t faced physical, hard hitting teams before? I believe your boys will bring it – at this stage everyone will – but I do know Camden, Warner Robins, Brookwood, Roswell, Lowndes, East Paulding, Peachtree Ridge, etc. were all fast and physical. Ironically, so is Grayson. I know you have some special athletes – many more than we do – but just like you, we’ve been down this road before. Should be a fun game to watch.

The Original "Cougarfan"

Two things I would like someone else’s input on. The first is a choice made by GHSA, I’m assuming because of the record breaking QB. Why would you not cover the game with the 2 best scoring defenses and the #1 vs #3 in state rankings? The Lassiter QB deserves the exposure but it shouldn’t be about just that. Hopefully, I am wrong on this one. But if not for that why would they pick that game especially when they covered Colquitt Co. last week. I know it’s on CSS but if your not in that area you can’t watch even on a PPV. Not at all saying they don’t deserve the coverage but I would like to see another team. Like the CC vs NG or the PTR vs NS just to get some info for purposes of a possible semi-finals match up. The second, and I have seen this post a couple of different times, is that the Grayson field will probably be wet and messy again. I don’t understand why last week and this week it doesn’t make any sense either. Both weeks have had rain but afterwards had several days to dry. Like this week being cloudy yesterday but today, thursday, and friday until game time it will be sunny. I read a post from a Lowndes County fan saying it was kind of in a hole, possibly why it would be messy??? Just curious with Grayson being a running grind it out kind of offense. NOT saying that wetting the field is going on. I just don’t get why it wouldn’t be in top shape except for the amount of football being played there. But, here are my picks for friday. Lassiter vs Colquitt Co. If CC shows up and plays defense like they can they win. Unless Lassiter can man up and play some kind of defense that QB may have to throw 8 more td’s to have a shot. Take Colquitt County by less than a field goal. Northside vs. PTR. Great match-up and a chance to wipe out NS 44 game home streak. Another close one at the MAC but NS will hang around to give some sort of competition to Newnan next week… NG vs CC. North Gwinnett is a good team. Camden County is a great team. Even on the road Camden shows up to play and to win. I did see a good NG team last year at Newnan but they fell flat. Camden by a TD. And Grayson vs Newnan. Did someone say defense??? This game will be tied at 7 by the half and tied at 7 by the end of the 4th quarter. Unfortunately Newnan doesn’t have a good kicking game. Winner by a field goal in overtime but only for Newnan if they can get to the 5 yard line to do it.

it’s nice that lowndes lost last week too shutup all the comments on how great Lowndes is. Lowndes can blame the Refs all you want. I just hope the team didn’t display the same sportsmanship when they lost at grayson last year. You lost, get over it. As for Newnam game, wow this one will be great. If could go either way. No trash talk because both teams are very good. The last 5 minutes in the game will decide who wins.

Nomo: How do you pull up those films? Can you pull the one from the Lowndes/Grayson game last year to show these people the refs had nothing to with it. What did Lowndes have 2 first downs for the whole game? Those guys with green jerseys that tackled you in the backfield all night were not refs.

Original Cougarfan, Grayson’s stadium does sit in a “hole” and that certainly doesn’t help, but it remains a mystery as to why the field stays wet. I assist with painting, and can assure you there’s no “wetting” going on. We suspect the drainage – although excellent at field level – is not working properly under grade, all the way to the detention pond that receives the runoff. Unfortunately it has gotten progressively worse the past two years, and we all know how government works….we’re gonna need a sinkhole to engulf the mower before the County recognizes, re-evaluates, and repairs the preoblem.

It’s just as detrimental to us as it is the opponents – our punt returner missed two golden opportunities last week taking his initial steps, and then slipped on pass coverage on Roswell’s long TD.

My copies are bootlegged and my library is extensive…I might be a tad closer to the program than some of the fans here, so I occasionally watch film of the upcoming opponents. Moreso in the playoffs….not really much fun watching Central, Berkmar, Meadowcreek, etc…

I haven’t watched that Lowndes tape since the week after our victory. I was too busy watching PR…and rightfully so.

I see areas against Newnan that give me hope, ony for that hope to be shot down in other areas. Could be another classic slobberknocker like our game with PR last year….just looking for a better outcome.

Don’t know who will come out on top in the Lassiter – CC game, but I do know this. The LHS defense has faced every type of offense there is this year – - wing T, spread, the “eye”, wildcat – - and can shut all of them down enough to prevent a run up of points. Their own offense is diverse enough to keep CC’s D from knowing what’s coming. Just because Mason throws for a ton of yards and TD’s every game doesn’t mean they are just a passing offense. They disguise their packages as well as any team I’ve seen in years. Lassiter plays very smart football, and they have enough tough playmakers on both sides of the ball to frustrate the crap out of anybody. No CC lead will be safe. Lassiter’s weak spot is special teams, an CC had better take advantage, or it’s going to be a long night for them. Their secondary will be dog winded by the end of Q3, and Lassiter has at least 12 quality receivers to rotate in. This is going to be a great game, and I predict whoever comes out on top will take the AAAAA title.

Good one Georgia Football. I would not underestimate Lassiter. As everyone knows, they put up a ton of points, however, their defense is much better than you know. They produce turnovers in every game. Someone, in an earlier post, wrote that Lassiter beat S. Gwinnett because of S. Gwinnett’s turnovers. How do you think those happened? Was it a mysterious happening? I don’t think so. Lassiter’s defense is much better than you think. I will say, again, that either team could win, but I’m betting on Lassiter not being upset by the lower seeded team. We’ll see come Friday.

Man, you aint seen the speed that you’ll see Friday. They are fast! P-ridge better not let us score more than 14. Cuz if they do, they will get beat. Any one of the four quarterfinal games would be worth televising. I think this weekend showcases the best of what georgia high school football has to offer. For those who haven’t seen Lassiter, the team is far more than just Hutson Mason at QB. He is a phenomenal leader, the offense is very balanced, as the ball is spread around, and the team also has a very quick running back. In the last 2 games, the second string has been in for the 4th quarter. In those games, the opponents also scored a couple of touchdowns at the end of the game, when the game was already out of reach. No disrespect to either N Forsyth or South Gwinnett, because those kids played their hearts out. Lassiter’s defense also scored 2 touchdowns off of interceptions last week, and so far, the “bend, dont break” defensive theory has worked. Lassiter’s defense also made a stop against the run on a fourth and goal from the 1, so there will be plenty happening in the trenches. So, for Colquitt County fans, welcome to “The Frank” on Friday. There is no doubt that you will bring a well prepared football team, and, as always, we hope for a safe, injury free game.

Plowboy, if you would be honest with yourself, on that first run from scrimage for Lowndes your guy was holding. AND IT WAS NOT CALLED. I was sitting on the visitors side and all of the Lowndes fan saw it and agreed it was holding. It was also done again on a another long run, and that was’nt called. This is what the Lowndes fan said after seeing the holding(it only matters if the man in the white cap saw it). So please officiating had nothing to do with the outcome of that game. It was holding all night. Any time you hook your arm around the defensive player or actually pull him to the ground its holding. Plain and simple. It was a hard fought game for both teams. But the officiating was pretty good.

True Blue, How can you honestly say that NG has not played anyone this year? North played Prattville (#6 in the Nation at the time) and won, played Brookwood and won, Norcross (hated rivalry) and won, Peachtree Ridge (# 8 in the state at the time) and won, North Forsyth (runs wing t and an upcoming program that made the playoffs this year) and won, Woodstock (#10 team in the state at the time) and won. Over the last two years, this team has played Byrnes and Prattville (ranked # 1 and # 6 in the Nation), played thru the Quarter finals last year until a rain bowl caught us at Newnan. Please, we respect what Camden has done, believe me, but don’t underestimate this NG team or this coaching staff. This coaching staff is one of the top three in the state, maybe in the nation! They will have the players ready for this game. A little mutual respect, please. One thing you will find out about NG fans, we definitely respect the teams we are playing and are good sports in wins and losses. Perhaps I can clear up a mistaken impression. I have never seen NSWR on film or otherwise. I do not know what offense they run. While I root for P Ridge as a close Gwinnett team, I only attend their games when they play North. I have nothing at all to do with any football decisions at PTR. A few of their players played for me in little league and I am happy to see them do well.

My point was not what I know about NSWR, clearly I know little. Although I do know they have been held to 21 points or less in 5 games this year, and they have only put up “big points” on lesser teams. I am sure Coach Ballard has seen NSWR and knows exactly what offense they run. I am sure he has a plan to minimize scoring by NSWR. And he has a strong defense that CAN execute even though they have had a couple bad games.

I would expect NSWR to win this game, and I was giving an example of how any of these teams could win despite the other team being a favorite. It is obviously possible to hold NSWR to less than 21 points this season, and PTR is exactly the sort of team that could do it. Do not underestimate their defense.

I know you guys are rabid about your team. You should win. But you might not. This game is a perfect example of a close back and forth battle that will probably occur this friday. I suspect both teams will be withing striking range of a win until the final buzzer sounds.

Good luck! Enjoy your game! I hope that nobody gets hurt. It should be an awesome football game.

Several people have asked whether any team running a passing offense can win a title in Georgia? Go ask the Red Elephants what they think.

The phrase “3 yards and a cloud of dust” originally referred to the offense of Woody Hays at Ohio State. Coaches like Woody Hays, Bear Bryant, Amos Alonzo Stagg, and Tom Osborne “ran the ball” and “ran the ball”, and if that wasn’t working then they “ran the ball” some more. Many coaches followed the advice of Woody Hays who said “only 3 things can happen when you pass, and 2 of them are bad”.

Eventually a new era came to football with the vision of coaches like LaVelle Edwards (BYU), Tiger Ellison (Middleton OH), Paul Johnson (GA Southern), Urban Meyer (FL), Mouse Davis and Bill Walsh. A new breed of quarter back developed typified by players like Jim Plunket, Johnny Unitas, June Jones (go look up his high school and college stats!).

A balanced or passing attack has almost completely replaced “3 yards and a cloud of dust” in college ball, and a new era is arriving in High School football also.

Some other poster belittled Alabama football since North beat their 6A champion. But their 5A champion beat Camden. And 2 of our elite 8 coaches in GA 5A this year (Colquit and Lassiter) learned their offense from Hoover (AL).

Let’s look at the math. With a “Bay City” Wing-T, 11 defensive players only have to cover about 45 square yards of field. With a “Spread” or “Run and Shoot”, those same 11 players have to cover about 1,500 square yards of the field. All of the defensive players have to be pretty good to slow down a “vertical” offense. The offense can pick the weak spot in the defense that they want to attack, so that 1 awesome safety hardly matters if the left CB keeps getting burned.

If a passing attack does not win it this year in 5A, then it will not be long. The new era is already on its way.

Since most posters only see there select teams It is impossible to actually say with certainty what will happen–especially with the last eight standing.Snapping that NSWR win streak sure would be fun—-but Pridge will have to be mistake free. This will have to be the night Pridge plays to its full potential and that really has not happened yet. Great opportunity for a young program.Under the radar–no respect–the pressure is all on NSWR—–after all its only Peachtree Ridge.

SouthGaDrools – Thanks, I just like to fire up the plowboys and Lady Eaglettes fans with a few facts. Mighty Lowndes is 1-6 on the road in playoff games this century. That’s a fact. The only championship NS Wienie Robbins has won this century is in AAAA. That’s also a fact. Colquitt is the worst team left and they’re definitely going down Friday. The Eaglettes will have to win on D because their O is clearly mediocre, I think scores by D, great field position from turnovers, and kick returns have accounted for most of their points this season. They think they important but really this just impotent!

I have been posting on here since mid season. I have consistently stated that Colquitt is a tough, physical football team and is better than what everyone thinks they are. We have proved that over and over again. The playoffs started and still the Packers did not recieve the respect that was due them. We have have won 2 tough fought games in the playoffs and beat what I thought was the most talented team in the state last week. Each week I have heard smack talk from other teams fans and each week we have taken care of business, except for the week that ENR talked his smack,(NSWR backed him up). The Packers will take care of business again this week on our way to a state championship. The game is played on the field not discussion boards.

BlackandGold24: Not only have you won 2 hard fought games, but being on the road for the last 3, now 4 weeks (Yes, I’m including the trip to the mecca, the MAC, as well). I figured you would beat Westlake, but thought Stephenson would finally put it together, but the Jags being the Jags figured a way to lose again early (what a shock). You are right about the game being played on the field, but hopefully, the Pack dominates time of possession & does not turn the ball over. My biggest concern for the Pack is having to travel to metro Atlanta 3 weeks in a row. I believe Coffee came to Atlanta area three times last year, beating Stephenson & Chapel Hill before being punished by Peachtree Ridge. Anyway, good luck to you Friday night.

True Blue…….I said last week that if the Stephenson coaching staff didn’t do their home work on the Pack that they could lose…… True Blue Join the club #4 Quin Roberson of Colquitt had a field day on Northside’s defense as well ,he had around 200 total yards of offense (U.G totaled 118 against the Eagles as a team). This is the best kid I have seen handling the football all year, and I am talking about the Lowndes , Carver and Peach County boys, Franklin ,Crowell and Burns just to name a few……I think Roberson will be the decide factor againsst Lassiter…..With the speed on Northside’s defense and he gets over 200 , What do you think he’ll do against a lassiter defense that gives up 23 per game in Region 6……Lassiter won’t keep up with this kid ,Roberson is gonna have a field day

Elite eight in the Peach State
The quarterfinals are set in Georgia and six of the eight teams remaining will be in the RivalsHigh 100 on Monday – the other two have been ranked this year as well.

RivalsHigh.com’s No. 1 team in state, Loganville (GA) Grayson, will take on the fourth-ranked Newnan (GA) High.

Warner Robins (GA) Northside, our current No. 2 team in state, will do battle with Suwanee (GA) Peachtree Ridge. Peachtree Ridge is not currently ranked but has bounced in-and-out of the national rankings all season.

Suwanee (GA) North Gwinnett will have to prove it is the No. 3 team against defending state winner and current No. 5 team, Kingsland (GA) Camden County.

And newly ranked this week Marietta (GA) Lassiter will have its hands full with previously ranked Moultrie (GA) Colquitt County.

I’m sure Coach Propst has a plan to overcome us, but don’t forget Coach Linsey has a plan as well. We’ll see who’s the more athletic and better team Friday. As someone stated earlier in this blog…championships are won on the field, not on blogs. Best of luck

nomo… do u really think that because you watched the comcast broadcast of newnan that you have seen “film”. hahaha get real buddy, of course you have seen them play but have you broken down their plays frame by frame? can u even name their defensive starters? no, so next time before you call me ignorant think before you talk. by the looks of your posts you are an outcasted band parent on here wishing nothing but safety in travels… thats all great and gives us all warm fuzzies inside but thats not what this blog is about, its about football something you know nothing about. can u name the players on our team who made all county? hahaha you are a waste of breath.

To all the Newnan fans, its gonna be a great game. I agree with the post about coming down to a fieldgoal, i would say we have a stronger place kicker BUT ive seen ogletree on punt block, hes scary good coming from the outside. I look for all aspects of special teams to determine the outcome of this game.

And to finally clear up my comment on the “2 man show” i probably could of used a better terminology but what i meant was those were the 2 major weapons. Obviously if your averaging only giving up 6 per game its a team effort. Im glad to see that theres not much trash talking going on, 2 very well respected programs… So just no that all of the “educated” fans at grayson are expecting a great game… also just take whatever nomo says lightly… he’s probably a jealous dad whose son doesnt play

@ BlackandGold24: I honestly was not talking trash. I would have been completely shocked if Northside lost at McConnell-Talbert Stadium to a team like Colquitt County. If you remember correctly, I BOLDLY stated on this board that Lowndes County were “suspect” on the road. I said that. It was not meant as a way of talking trash. I even gave reasons, like travel, as a way to explain the Vikings’ road woes. I just do not believe that a high school program is going to get on a bus travel for hours and handle the pressure of playing a program like Northside. End of story.

I’m tired of reading about how athletic CC is. Their D is not prepared for the offensive assault Lassiter brings. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lassiter puts up another 70 points. CC’s D has practiced against a less than average offense all season and I believe Lassiter’s gone up against tougher D’s than CC’s. I am, however, concerned about #4 during special teams plays

Grayson Student: My opinions about our Northside Eagles playing at home and home teams in general are well documented in this blog. If there is any program that has proven an exception to the rule, it is Newnan. I can only tell you this. On November 28, 2005, Northside was rolling on all cylinders. This is not trash talk. We were undefeated and frankly running up the score on all comers. Our previous four games looked something like this: Northside 47, Eagles’ Landing 7; Northside 69, Henry County 0; Northside 37, Warner Robins 16; 1st Round of State Playoff – Northside 47, Bradwell 0.

To say that our Eagles were on cruise control to a state championship would be an understatement. We then played Newnan. They were just flying under the radar (as usual) and getting no respect. They did not beat us, they violated our program. Newnan beat Northside 24-0 at McConnell-Talbert. No one saw it coming, except Newnan.

Since 1996, Northside has NEVER lost a regular season game to a visiting team and only lost twice in that stadium. Northside is 65-2 versus visiting teams at the MAC since 1996. One loss was in the state championship game to Parkview 12-7. In that classic, Northside running back, (we do not speak his name), fumbled a pitch from All-American candidate Chauncey Stuckey (now starting wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns, #88) inside the 25 yard line which would have resulted in an easy touchdown. Parkview 12, Northside 7. 65 wins versus 67 visiting opponents. People on this site who have never been to the MAC fail to understand that the stadium practically sits on the Warner Robins HS campus. It is borderline impossible to beat Northside at the MAC. Newnan did so…easily. The place was a zoo and Newnan made it very quiet, very quickly. They owned the MAC that night. With all due respect to Grayson’s facility, the MAC has real tradition and history. These guys will not be intimidated.

The exception to the MAC rule is Newnan. Respect Newnan (Grayson posters) or they will take respect. You heard it from me. You guys from Grayson have the best team in the state. No one can argue that. You have proven yourself at home. Do not disrespect Newnan or you will regret it. Your great season will be wasted, if you look past Newnan.

I will be one happy Eagle, because we are chumping at the bit to get another shot at Newnan. First, the Nation will focus upon ripping silver spoons out of some Lion Cub mouths.

Inthetrenches: Wow, it is going to be a great week in football across the state. I just reached my family’s home in Warner Robins with my family. I opened the Macon Telegraph and there are going to be some great games in the lower classification, as well.

Let me get this one off of my chest. Peach County is going to beat an undefeated DeKalb County team called St. Pius X. You heard it from me. Peach County 28, St. Pius X 14. By 10:30 pm Friday night, it is officially high school basketball season across all of DeKalb County.

By the way, Stephenson boosters should consider firing Ron Gartrell for his shameless defense of his boneheaded play-calling in the Stephenson vs. Colquitt County game. He said the he and his staff “get kids in college.” Is this guy serious??? I believe he has read too many of his own news clippings? Does Gartrell really believe he is the guy developing the athletes at the school that has nothing be thoroughbreds walking the halls. He said it is more important to send kids to college. What about actually teaching them the game and compotently coach state playoff games? I can’t count the number of DeKalb kids who go to big programs and underachieve because they have such bad high school coaches. It is a disgrace. This guy needs one season at a school like Meadowcreek or Alpharetta HS. We will see how he develops less talented kids.

As for AAAAA, I do not see the close games that so many people are predicting. I, hope for everyone’s sake the games are competitive and fun. I see some very, very long road trips after a bunch of turkey. I see some packed stadiums with visiting alumnus and family’s reunited to get behind the home teams. I see a very disappointing night for the Gwinnett County faithful and Todd Holcomb, who makes it is life’s work to hype these mediocre programs.

Being Real: There is no pressure on Northside’s program. This season was supposed to be a rebuilding year. Instead, we have gone right back to hitting people in the mouth’s.

Mixed community. Of course, Peachtree Ridge is a mixed community. You guys talk about the mixed community. The thing that people from Gwinnett fail to talk about is how a program gets violated 51-17 by a second round playoff team.

You are entitled to carry your own beliefs and opinions to your grave. However, you better believe that soft teams get embarrassed by Northside. 119-13 since 2000. 65-2 at home against road teams. No visiting road team has won a regular season game at McConnell-Talbert against Northside since 1996.

Dude, this is not a scene from some Hollywood script. This is Northside High School. This is McConnell-Talbert. This is three weeks removed from another State Championship on a team that will practically return everyone. This is one of the most football crazed towns in America with a proven track record in producing with all of the marbles on the floor (See multiple National Championships in high school football…see multiple state championships at multiple schools…see Little League World Series winner…see Little League Softball World Series winners…see such domination in GHSA activities like One Act, the state championship is just hosted at Northside – why leave).

Northside is going to hit very hard. Mixed community or not, soft teams with little heart get embarrassed. Brace yourself. That is real talk for you, Being Real.

Like Lowndes County, Peachtree Ridge is “suspect” on the road. In the past three season, the Lions are 12-7 playing away outside of Suwanee. Mixed community or not, that sounds like a bunch of “momma’s boys” to me. 7 road losses and people from Suwanee and Gwinnett are making wild claims about Northside lossing at the MAC to this group. :-)

I am laughing my tail off at the proclamation that a team that is 12-7 away from home is going to load on to a bus travel for over three hours and compete (not win…I said compete) against Northside at the MAC on the Friday after Thanksgiving. There will be 15,000 Eagle fans packed into the MAC and the fans will be fired up. Peachtree Ridge will quit on the road…just as they always do.

Inthatrenches: Rick Tomberlin has already proven himself at a program similar to Stephenson. Take a look at this body of work in Sandersville at Washington County. The guy can coach. I have verified reports that he has been offered the head coaching job at the new high school in Warner Robins, Veterans HS.

Tomberlin is a very good coach and be all accounts a good person. Ironically, he has struggled in Valdosta at both high schools. I believe there was a negative energy around him at Valdosta. He would bring a positive energy to a place like Stephenson. The problem is we all know that the people at a school like MLK, Stephenson, or SWD will NEVER hire a guy like Tomberlin…and we all know why. It is sad.

I will not be surprised to see him at a strong Atlanta area program or another small classification powerhouse. It will be very interesting should he wind up at Veterans in Warner Robins. That would give our city four high schools with three of the four coaches having state championship rings. Amazing.

EagleNationRising

November 25th, 2009
8:01 pm

Inthatrenches: The Friday night predictions in AAAA are as follows (there will be great action in all classifications this week…it is great to be in Georgia this time of year):

The easiest call of the week: Northside 24, Peachtree Ridge 9. Northside’s defense has yet to give up a touchdown in the playoffs. They are doing what every young team does. They are getting better as the season moves forward. The best gift that we received from the game against Union Grove was the touchdown return on the kickoff. It will be addressed. It is no surprise the Gwinnett posters are looking for easy points. Nothing will come for free for Peachtree Ridge on Friday night. If Peachtree Ridge throws in the towel, it may get worse. This score prediction is assuming that the Lion Cubs will fight. Peachtree Ridge is a very suspect 12-7 outside of Suwanee in the past 3 seasons.

The barn burner: Colquitt County 49, Lassiter 24. I have very little faith in Colquitt County. I have no faith in teams taking long road trips. I will believe that run and gun will win in Georgia, when I see it. However, with the Colquitt County at Lassiter game you have to throw out my distain for the style of play because both teams are playing it. You have to throw out the long road trip because Colquitt will put their kids up in a hotel. You also have to forget the fact that Colquitt is totally unproven in this situation (Stephenson will ALWAYS find a way to pull defeat from the jaws of victory). The most alarming stat associated with Lassiter is not their GREAT quarterback play and fine coaching staff. It is not Lassiter’s impressive record. Lassiter has given up and average of 34.3 points per game in the past 4 weeks. 34.3 points!!! That is a recipe for disaster. Colquitt County will clearly be the best team that Lassiter has faced. They will be the most physical and they may outdraw Lassiter. There may be more Colquitt fans in that little stadium. Colquitt County is going to embarrass Lassiter. These guys have played at Martin Stadium against Lowndes, at the MAC against Northside, and beat Stephenson in DeKalb County. Colquitt rolls.

The hard game: Camden County 14, North Gwinnett 10. This will be the game of all games. I give a significant advantage to North Gwinnett. Camden beats everyone. I love our Eagles. I have to respect Lowndes County. However, name a program with more signature wins than Camden County. You name the program, Camden has beaten them. Now, name the signature wins for North Gwinnett. I know that beat an Alabama program. So what! Name the signature wins for North Gwinnett in Georgia. You still thinking…me too. Camden wins with all of the chips stacked against them. I would hate a flight as long as their pending road trip to NG. I refuse to ever doubt Camden.

The shocker: Newnan 28, Grayson 17. This is the week. This is the week that the best team in the state with the shakiest offense has to pay the piper. If you believe that Grayson coaches have had an easy job at convincing Ram players that Newnan is for real, stop lying to yourself. Grayson is very good, probably the best. However, we can take a big game every year in the state playoffs where someone is asleep at the wheel. Last year, it was Lowndes County at Grayson. Earlier I posted about Northside hosting Newnan. Newnan has at least one major signature win on the road over the past five seasons. Grayson has at least one major signature win at home, in the playoffs, over the past five years. Newnan kids will respect Grayson. Grayson kids will not respect Newnan. Newnan wins it easily.

Final prediction: Todd Holcomb and the AJC staff will suggest that every team outside of Gwinnett, Cobb, and DeKalb county play in one region for the good of the kids. The four qualifying teams should them play first round games at Camden County’s Wildcat Stadium, at McConnell-Talbert Stadium, and at Martin Stadium in Valdosta. Then, the winning teams should play all of their remaing playoff games in Gwinnett and Cobb County for the good of the kids. His shameless hyping of metro Atlanta football wil once again end with a myriad of excuses. It will make logistical sense because if the games are played in Gwinnett and Cobb, it will benefit the programs. The Gwinnett excuse thread is coming to an AJC.com blog near you.

LHS: It has to be Lassiter or Lowndes County. I do not know for certain. However, both of those teams put up some big time points. McEachern was rolling on all cylinders too. The 70 points by Lassiter had to put them over the top or close to it.

The truth is the best teams (Grayson, Camden County, North Gwinnett, Northside) usually have strong defenses. It is a good question. You can go on to the Georgia High School Football Historians site and check out all of the scores at http://www.ghsfa.org.

Wow, Grayson Student, truth hurts doesn’t it? You say I know nothing of football, yet your entire contribution has been about Newnan’s “2 man show”? I suggested the comcast video for your benefit, not mine.

Yes, I have game film (on disk) on Newnan for the MLK, Pebblebrook, Westlake, Valdosta, East Coweta, and Lovejoy. No, I don’t know all the starters names, and whenever I’ve broken down film in the past, I haven’t found that it really mattered. For those of you not knowing what to look for, Grayson Student, I’m sure that’s an interesting topic. Do I know the defensive schemes we are practicing for this game? Yep. Do I know the offensive game plan we are working on? Yep.

I’m not a band parent, nor a fan of our band director, but I’ll guarantee you I spend more time in the field house than you do, and I’ve been involved at Grayson far longer than you.

Last, but not least, do I know who made all county? Of course I do – and my son that doesn’t play…he’s one of them. Without spilling all the beans before it’s publicized, I know we have the RB, LB, and DL of the year for the county. I know our two reps for the Georgia all-star game. I know who got the Team First award, and the Scholar Athlete….

I take it from the timing of your post, and the questions you asked that you are on the team? If so, I would suggest you utilize your time more wisely. If not, you are just another wannabe.

The Warner Robins programs started winning after the Demons had to play Bazemores Valdosta after winning their first region title score 35-14, valdosta and Bazemore was graceful in not running up the score. Since then the 2 high schools slowly started learning how to play high school football in the city of Warner Robins.
That being said, the city of Warner Robins is crazy about high school
football. Whoever comes to the Mac these days better feel the ghosts of the past because NSWR does not lose there when the playoffs come around!
We just love it too much.

ENR–”Newnan kids will respect Grayson. Grayson kids will not respect Newnan. Newnan wins it easily.” Wow, just when I thought you might know a little about football…you stuffed it right in your mouth! As a proud dad of a Senior Player, nothing could be further from the TRUTH…but you really know that and these blogs are to get people’s juices flowing. (as if they’re not by now) Prior to my depature on Sat back to CA, I had a few of the Ram’s lineman over to Hooters for Wings and {Sodas}…well, a beer for me, but I was very impressed with not only the respect those young men had for their upcoming opponent, but the numerous possible scenarios that could transpire either way for either team, good… and not so good. I love reading your posts, but please do not iterate to these folks on this blog what you (think) other people on other teams do or not do. That takes away ALL of your credibilty, that you have worked sooooooooo very long to obtain. Keep it real, not what you think is real…Reality is, you don’t know SQUAT about what Grayson Players think!

Bart Sibrel:(ENR)

“I believe there was a negative energy around him at Valdosta.”
You forgot to say how Todd Holcomb or the evil metro atlanta conspirators caused this mysterious energy that kept a coach at a holy south georgia school from being average at best and horrible at times.

How many of NSWR big home wins in a row (except of course the games they lost) were to AA or AAA teams or Tift, Cofee, Houston? Here’s a random sample from 2006
v warner robins w 28-7
v duchtown w 54-0
v stockbridge w 43-6
v upson-lee w 41-7
v mt zion w 47-6

Looks like the Eagles were really challenged by some quality South Georgia powerhouses

ENR,

I can’t speak to the Newnan team’s preparation but I can assure you Grayson is NOT looking past Newnan and very much respects them. That being said, I still think it will be a tough game that Grayson wins. They have been there against some very tough teams this year and have found the way. There haven’t been too many style points but the win/loss numbers still look like 12-0!

To everyone talking about the condition of the field at Grayson, the field does sit in a bowl. With the warmer days and then cool nights we have been having recently, the cool air collects over the warm field. The high humidity guarentees condensation and that the dew will start to collect early and heavily. Drainage might still be an issue but to be real, Atlanta is 12-14 inches over the average rainfall already and there is still a month to go in the year. Shoot, my yard is soggy and it is normally hard as concrete! :) I’m not making excuses just looking for the cause. As others pointed out, it hurts us as well.

To all those traveling to any game this weekend, please be careful! One game this year the visiting band was late because of an accident and one week the visiting cheerleaders were late because of an accident. Good luck to all and safe travels.

Nomo… Since you are quoting that was a respond from what people are saying about the game.. yes it’s to win State Championships but it’s equally important to get kids into school. Not sure about 19 D1 scholarships but I know it’s 12 for sure and more from smaller schools. Not sure if you know anything about Dekalb county and the way the Athletic Department is run but I am here to tell you it’s not ran with the best intentions for sports and high school programs when you look at the way there monies are dispursed throughout each school evenly. Getting back to my point sir, all i am saying you cannot do what Coach Gartrell has done for any school over the past 10 years. People can say what you want to say about Coach Gartrell all I know is that he his a winner on and off the field getting these young men into college and some have gone on to the professional level and come back to talk to these athletes.

nomo, after reviewing the arrogance of your posts i believe i know who you are. Well craig let me remind you of some things. First off, you are NOT a coach. You say you know the offensive gameplan, hahahaha man that must of took hours of research. You claim to spend far more time in the fieldhouse than i do, well i dont know about that, unless you want to count the fact that you are in there trying to act like mickeys assistant coach daily in weight training. Just going to throw one final question out there for you, how long did it take conn to give you the film? Seeing as how everyone in the grayson community knows that you are KEY to our success in game planning week in and week out. It will be a sight to see what you will do with your life next year

Grayson posters: I can not say this enough times. Grayson is the best team in the state of Georgia. If you review the posts, when many people were bashing Grayson’s lack of point productions, I was one of a group of people saying it did not matter as long as Grayson won the game. Point differential is a useless statistic.

I have no doubts that Grayson’s fine coaching staff is preparing the Rams for a big game. I could be totally wrong. I do know that Newnan often gets overlooked. If we are overlooking them as fans, there is a real potential that some players are overlooking them too.

Newnan is the one team that does not have a very long road trip tomorrow night. My point about Newnan is they have HAMMERED very good home teams before. Make no doubt about it, Grayson is one of the best home teams in Georgia. I just believe that Newnan may have the ability to match Grayson’s athletism.

Truth is, I do not know what is going to happen. None of us do. If I were making a prediction, I believe that Newnan “under-the-radar” status makes them a very, very dangerous opponent.

Northside is not an under-the-radar program. Peachtree Ridge is not an under-the-radar program. North Gwinnett and Grayson are not under-the-radar. All four have been ranked nationally this season. Camden County is known statewide. Due to Rush Propst, Colquitt County is well known. Due to the AJC, Todd Holcomb’s constant metro Atlanta hype, and a fine QB, Lassiter is known. The one program sitting out there, without the fanfare and constant hype is Newnan.

Newnan has major Division I players. Newnan is undefeated. Newnan has been good for a long time. If I were Grayson, I would be nervous. Newnan seems like a bit of an unknown. I believe that Grayson is going to have their hands full because Newnan scores points and their defense is very good. We will see tomorrow night.

Good luck to both Newnan and Grayson. I certainly did not mean to suggest that Grayson’s coaching staff was underestimating Newnan. I just think kids do. I believe our kids at Northside would. I believe Grayon’s kids will too. Therein, lies a real problem.

Grayson Student, there’s no arrogance in my post – only answers to your questions. I am not Craig, but know him well, and I’m sure he’ll be busy attending games at the acadamy next year. As for the film, I made my own copies – before you players got yours on Tuesday. Again, not being arrogant, just answering what you asked.

We are on the same team, so let’s focus on the task at hand. You say I misconstrued your original post, so for that I apologize. I’ve been participating on this blog for only the last couple of years, but do have more fun on GPR and GAVSV, where there seems to be more good natured banter rather than some of the poison that shows up here. While not “looking” for a single post as you implied, I do get a little sensitive when I perceive a Grayson fan showing little class or little respect for our opponents – that’s not who we are or what we are about. Again, if it was my misunderstanding, forgive me for calling you out.

Eagles Unite, great points, and I can’t speak for all of the players, but I know my son has the same mental focus this week that he displayed last year when we were preparing for Lowndes. My apologies. This is my younger brother’s postname. We are both at our parent’s home and he was obviously the last person to make a post. Again, no disrespect is intended to the fine Grayson coaching staff. I have been in this position as a high school player. High school kids do create expectations about what another team is capable of.

Most teams regularly underestimate Newnan. An underestimated 12-0 team with a relatively short road trip is a scary opponent. Newnan has state championships within their athletic program. They have been good for a very long time. That is all that I am saying.

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck to both Newnan and Grayson. We will all be following your game.

Championships are won on the defensive side of the football, LHS. You will learn this very soon. Lassiter is not the first high scoring act to get grounded when the game becomes a little more physical.

Frankly, I don’t know how Lassiter is anyone’s underdog considering that Lassiter is facing a third seed. If Stephenson were not so poorly coached, we would probably be talking about Lassiter versus Stephenson.

I just know that Lassiter is giving up nearly 35 points per game. Even you have to admit, LHS, that is not a “traditional” approach to winning football.

I’m assuming our starters will have to play all 4 quarters in this one.

EagleNationRising: I thought your analysis of NS at the MAC and Newnan on the road was right on. I think you had a typo, though. That was not in 2005 that “unknown” Newnan shocked the fault line…it was 2003. And I suppose that you noticed the error in the article to which this blog is attached. NS has won that many (44) REGULAR season games in a row at the MAC…but as far as I know, Newnan is the only team to have won there (unless the state championship game against Parkview AKA The Francoeur Show was in the so-called 44 game span). By the way…despite the physical contest in ‘03 and the fact that NS’s QB (who was oober mobile and talented) appeared to want to quit football forever after the Newnan/NS game, he actually connected w/ Newnan’s Derrell Stegall in the North/South All-Star Game. Who said we can’t all be friends? BTW, Stegall was named offensive MVP of the all-star game.

i think every game this week will be close besides the colquitt-lassiter game. one team or the other wins by 2 scores. other than that every game is gonna be close. i orginally picked PTR to win at the MAC and i think they can but now im not as confident. i dont think NG should be “afraid” of camden. and camden should not be afraid of NG. both teams are very good. if the teams didnt have enough confidence to go in a game expecting to win then they wouldnt get this far.

Not much to argue with that. The injuries couldn’t have come at a worse time, but the guys stepping up are certainly no slouchers..and we’ve had a number of games to get them some real experience. First off, I want to say that P-ridge is a well coached team with a phenonomal defense. They played us tough and if the truth be known, really shut down our offense. HATS OFF. But we have a defense that is as good as anyone Ive seen and tonight they won the game for us again. Tonights triple overtime game was one of the best games Ive ever watched.
