2. In the 70-49 victory against South Gwinnett in the second round, Lassiter quarterback Hutson Mason threw for a state-record 552 yards and eight touchdowns and became the first QB in Georgia history to surpass 4,000 yards in a season. He has 4,266 yards and 54 touchdowns, also a state record.
3. Colquitt County and Peachtree Ridge are the only teams remaining in AAAAA that are not No. 1 seeds, and Colquitt is the only No. 3 seed left in the field.

ENR–”Newnan kids will respect Grayson. Grayson kids will not respect Newnan. Newnan wins it easily.” Wow, just when I thought you might know a little about football…you stuffed it right in your mouth! As a proud dad of a Senior Player, nothing could be further from the TRUTH…but you really know that and these blogs are to get people’s juices flowing. (as if they’re not by now) Prior to my depature on Sat back to CA, I had a few of the Ram’s lineman over to Hooters for Wings and {Sodas}…well, a beer for me, but I was very impressed with not only the respect those young men had for their upcoming opponent, but the numerous possible scenarios that could transpire either way for either team, good… and not so good. I love reading your posts, but please do not iterate to these folks on this blog what you (think) other people on other teams do or not do. That takes away ALL of your credibilty, that you have worked sooooooooo very long to obtain. Keep it real, not what you think is real…Reality is, you don’t know SQUAT about what Grayson Players think!

“I believe there was a negative energy around him at Valdosta.”
You forgot to say how Todd Holcomb or the evil metro atlanta conspirators caused this mysterious energy that kept a coach at a holy south georgia school from being average at best and horrible at times.
How many of NSWR big home wins in a row (except of course the games they lost) were to AA or AAA teams or Tift, Cofee, Houston? Here’s a random sample from 2006
v warner robins w 28-7
v duchtown w 54-0
v stockbridge w 43-6
v upson-lee w 41-7
v mt zion w 47-6
Looks like the Eagles were really challenged by some quality South Georgia powerhouses

ENR,
I can’t speak to the Newnan team’s preparation but I can assure you Grayson is NOT looking past Newnan and very much respects them. That being said, I still think it will be a tough game that Grayson wins. They have been there against some very tough teams this year and have found the way. There haven’t been too many style points but the win/loss numbers still look like 12-0!
To everyone talking about the condition of the field at Grayson, the field does sit in a bowl. With the warmer days and then cool nights we have been having recently, the cool air collects over the warm field. The high humidity guarentees condensation and that the dew will start to collect early and heavily. Drainage might still be an issue but to be real, Atlanta is 12-14 inches over the average rainfall already and there is still a month to go in the year. Shoot, my yard is soggy and it is normally hard as concrete!
I’m not making excuses just looking for the cause. As others pointed out, it hurts us as well.
To all those traveling to any game this weekend, please be careful! One game this year the visiting band was late because of an accident and one week the visiting cheerleaders were late because of an accident. Good luck to all and safe travels.

Nomo… Since you are quoting that was a respond from what people are saying about the game.. yes it’s to win State Championships but it’s equally important to get kids into school. Not sure about 19 D1 scholarships but I know it’s 12 for sure and more from smaller schools. Not sure if you know anything about Dekalb county and the way the Athletic Department is run but I am here to tell you it’s not ran with the best intentions for sports and high school programs when you look at the way there monies are dispursed throughout each school evenly. Getting back to my point sir, all i am saying you cannot do what Coach Gartrell has done for any school over the past 10 years. People can say what you want to say about Coach Gartrell all I know is that he his a winner on and off the field getting these young men into college and some have gone on to the professional level and come back to talk to these athletes.

Black Angel I am not here to defend ENR heck he has got me angry before…. he knows football; he knows NSWR football….much of what he says is opinion and usually quite strong….. heck why are you posting about ENR he is sitting back laughing because he took your goat (you did not hide it very well) ENR is a leader on this blog He is not afraid of calling out the ajc… you or me… He calls it like HE see’s it! Just post your opinion…. Hey weekend before last ENR alone had 1-200 posts either concerning him or his opinion even South GA was called out by others for his (tongue in cheek) comments he was just speaking about what ENR had said with sarcasm… Just learn when you take on the bull you get the horns He is probably the best poster on here because he causes you and I to respond..and that creates a strong opinion and posts from you…. I think personally he is PAID staff of the AJC

How many state championships do we have to win before they recognize us! The players from Camden can really help out that defense!!!!!!!!!

nomo, after reviewing the arrogance of your posts i believe i know who you are. Well craig let me remind you of some things. First off, you are NOT a coach. You say you know the offensive gameplan, hahahaha man that must of took hours of research. You claim to spend far more time in the fieldhouse than i do, well i dont know about that, unless you want to count the fact that you are in there trying to act like mickeys assistant coach daily in weight training. Just going to throw one final question out there for you, how long did it take conn to give you the film? Seeing as how everyone in the grayson community knows that you are KEY to our success in game planning week in and week out. It will be a sight to see what you will do with your life next year

Grayson posters: I can not say this enough times. Grayson is the best team in the state of Georgia. If you review the posts, when many people were bashing Grayson’s lack of point productions, I was one of a group of people saying it did not matter as long as Grayson won the game. Point differential is a useless statistic.
I have no doubts that Grayson’s fine coaching staff is preparing the Rams for a big game. I could be totally wrong. I do know that Newnan often gets overlooked. If we are overlooking them as fans, there is a real potential that some players are overlooking them too.
Newnan is the one team that does not have a very long road trip tomorrow night. My point about Newnan is they have HAMMERED very good home teams before. Make no doubt about it, Grayson is one of the best home teams in Georgia. I just believe that Newnan may have the ability to match Grayson’s athletism.
Truth is, I do not know what is going to happen. None of us do. If I were making a prediction, I believe that Newnan “under-the-radar” status makes them a very, very dangerous opponent.
Northside is not an under-the-radar program. Peachtree Ridge is not an under-the-radar program. North Gwinnett and Grayson are not under-the-radar. All four have been ranked nationally this season. Camden County is known statewide. Due to Rush Propst, Colquitt County is well known. Due to the AJC, Todd Holcomb’s constant metro Atlanta hype, and a fine QB, Lassiter is known. The one program sitting out there, without the fanfare and constant hype is Newnan.
Newnan has major Division I players. Newnan is undefeated. Newnan has been good for a long time. If I were Grayson, I would be nervous. Newnan seems like a bit of an unknown. I believe that Grayson is going to have their hands full because Newnan scores points and their defense is very good. We will see tomorrow night.
Good luck to both Newnan and Grayson. I certainly did not mean to suggest that Grayson’s coaching staff was underestimating Newnan. I just think kids do. I believe our kids at Northside would. I believe Grayon’s kids will too. Therein, lies a real problem.

Grayson Student, there’s no arrogance in my post – only answers to your questions. I am not Craig, but know him well, and I’m sure he’ll be busy attending games at the acadamy next year. As for the film, I made my own copies – before you players got yours on Tuesday. Again, not being arrogant, just answering what you asked.
We are on the same team, so let’s focus on the task at hand. You say I misconstrued your original post, so for that I apologize. I’ve been participating on this blog for only the last couple of years, but do have more fun on GPR and GAVSV, where there seems to be more good natured banter rather than some of the poison that shows up here. While not “looking” for a single post as you implied, I do get a little sensitive when I perceive a Grayson fan showing little class or little respect for our opponents – that’s not who we are or what we are about. Again, if it was my misunderstanding, forgive me for calling you out.

Eagles Unite, great points, and I can’t speak for all of the players, but I know my son has the same mental focus this week that he displayed last year when we were preparing for Lowndes. Rightfully so, he has confidence in his team’s ability and his coaches plans – but I assure you he knows what they are up against.

My apologies. This is my younger brother’s postname. We are both at our parent’s home and he was obviously the last person to make a post. Again, no disrespect is intended to the fine Grayson coaching staff. I have been in this position as a high school player. High school kids do create expectations about what another team is capable of.
Most teams regularly underestimate Newnan. An underestimated 12-0 team with a relatively short road trip is a scary opponent. Newnan has state championships within their athletic program. They have been good for a very long time. That is all that I am saying.
Happy Thanksgiving and good luck to both Newnan and Grayson. We will all be following your game.

Nomo: We all know how good Grayson is. The people screaming about their proposed lack of offense a missing something. In our family, we always had a mentality to win the game. I don’t care if Grayson scores a safety. That is plenty of offense, if you hold your opponent scoreless.

Championships are won on the defensive side of the football, LHS. You will learn this very soon. Lassiter is not the first high scoring act to get grounded when the game becomes a little more physical.
Frankly, I don’t know how Lassiter is anyone’s underdog considering that Lassiter is facing a third seed. If Stephenson were not so poorly coached, we would probably be talking about Lassiter versus Stephenson.
I just know that Lassiter is giving up nearly 35 points per game. Even you have to admit, LHS, that is not a “traditional” approach to winning football.

ENR. You are right. Defense does traditionally win championships. That said, no one should underestimate Lassiter’s D. I can’t remember a game where our starters played all 4 quarters…they’ve never had to. When they are in, they play very well stopping the run, causing turnovers, and making numerous interceptions. I’m assuming our starters will have to play all 4 quarters in this one.

No doubt Mason is a great QB.I just don’t think he has faced a defense like Colquitt’s this season. Irving, Jheudy, the McCrarys, Magwood….they are athletic and straight up nasty.
Look for this be a replay of UGA’s defense versus Hawaii’s Colt Brennan. Believe it.

EagleNationRising: I thought your analysis of NS at the MAC and Newnan on the road was right on. I think you had a typo, though. That was not in 2005 that “unknown” Newnan shocked the fault line…it was 2003. And I suppose that you noticed the error in the article to which this blog is attached. NS has won that many (44) REGULAR season games in a row at the MAC…but as far as I know, Newnan is the only team to have won there (unless the state championship game against Parkview AKA The Francoeur Show was in the so-called 44 game span). By the way…despite the physical contest in ‘03 and the fact that NS’s QB (who was oober mobile and talented) appeared to want to quit football forever after the Newnan/NS game, he actually connected w/ Newnan’s Derrell Stegall in the North/South All-Star Game. Who said we can’t all be friends? BTW, Stegall was named offensive MVP of the all-star game.

i think every game this week will be close besides the colquitt-lassiter game. one team or the other wins by 2 scores. other than that every game is gonna be close. i orginally picked PTR to win at the MAC and i think they can but now im not as confident. i dont think NG should be “afraid” of camden. and camden should not be afraid of NG. both teams are very good. if the teams didnt have enough confidence to go in a game expecting to win then they wouldnt get this far.

Hey Overated 1AAAAA! One thing a person like you should realize that in this decade you stated that Lowndes is 1 – 7 this decade on road games! Actually they are 4 – 5 on the road this decade in the playoffs with 3 State Championships! Last week when Camden played Lowndes at our place, Lowndes is the best team that I have seen all year! Not much to argue with that. The injuries couldn’t have come at a worse time, but the guys stepping up are certainly no slouchers..and we’ve had a number of games to get them some real experience. Newnan will definitely give the more than they’ve seen thus far. I’ll also agree the score probably won’t top 20 for either side.

First off, I want to say that P-ridge is a well coached team with a phenonomal defense. They played us tough and if the truth be known, really shut down our offense. HATS OFF. But we have a defense that is as good as anyone Ive seen and tonight they won the game for us again. Tonights triple overtime game was one of the best games Ive ever watched. Finally, what does the win by colquitt and us ( NSWR) say about the region 1-5A? Cmon, a 1 seed and 4 seed in the semi’s. lolllll
