I checked and it looks like the 1st year for AAAAA was 2000 so in 9 games has had 4 winners (pridge was shared) and and 5 losers. Only in 2003 when camden beat Valdosta was there no Gwinnett team in the final.

Date Winner Loser score

12/13/2008 Camden Pridge 21-14
12/15/2007 Lowndes North Gwinn 34-6
12/16/2006 Roswell/Pridge 14-14
12/3/2005 Lowndes Brookwood 49-7
12/4/2004 Lowndes Parkview 17-14
12/20/2003 Camden Valdosta 21-7
12/21/2002 Parkview Brookwood 28-7
12/22/2001 Parkview NSWR 12-7
12/16/2000 Parkview Harrison 19-7

Ware CO..Just to warn you the fans in Griffin are as tough as there football team…don’t bring your vehicles and expect nothing to happen to them..cause they will..vandalize them ..I know from experience after playing them in the 80’s as a rival..they pnce slashed our school bus tires…after we beat them in Griffin..just warning you..to be careful..

question for NSWR fans

Parkview beat NSWR in 2001 for the AAAAA title.
I thought NSWR just moved up to AAAAA?? What region were they in 2001?

thanks

Gwinnett county has had some good teams in the past, but none of them were spread offences that won. The teams that ran the ball well passed enough to make defences play honest and had great defences won titles then?

Who are the top 5 best running teams an top 5 defences in 5-A this year?

defense i would include Lowndes, Grayson, Newnan, North Gwinnett and Stephenson.
i’m sure there are others that could make a good argument.
Running, maybe Lowndes, Grayson, Stephenson, Camden, North Gwinnett

Hornet Dave…

Thanks…I checked the GHSA site but didn’t see it, must have overlooked. I remember a few years ago East Paulding had to bring in temporary seating to meet the requirement and I thought it was the 3rd round playoff. I was wondering about HIRAM since they have home field throughout by virtue of being Region Champs…They will have they same problem next week for their Round 3 game if that requirement kicks in. Thanks!

THE CANNON RULES!!!

Even as region champs, will they not have to flip a coin if they are matched against an equal seed from another region?

Grayram, NSWR played in the largest class for years from 04 to 07 they were in 4A. They played Parkview close in their hayday 12-7 and 21-19 in a semifinal game. I hope we get to see Grayson in a couple of weeks!Don’t quote me on the exact years in 4A but they weren’t many.

Grayram. We were region 2AAAAA from 2001-04, dropped to AAAA from 2005-07 (played in all three title games – won two of them), and returned to AAAAA for 2008-09.

the finally four in 5-A should be the top four running and defensive teams which would be lowdnes grayson stevenson and the other bracket with no top 5 defences or top 5 running game.

i dont know you said ng stevenson lowdnes and grayson and camden had the best running attacks you also said the best defences were ng stevenson newnan lowdnes and grayson due to the bracket set up some of these teams play each other before the final four where as the other bracket has none of the teams you talked about in your post.

Wish I could see at least one of these games tonight, but due to a tragic accident involving a close family friend I must remain mobile. His name is Justin Lane, a 16 year old Troup High student who had dreams of playing for the Troup High Tigers. Good kid. He is currently on “life support” at The Atlanta Medical Center. All your prayers would be appreciated.

Puddin not always the best defense wins championships!!! sometimes their is a punt return or a interception….. two evenly match defenses…… can need the help of the offense…..such as ball control or a big play!!

hsfootball fan, seeing as how three schools have won 8 of the 9 AAAAA championships, it is not surprising that not a lot of variety has been seen in offenses. This year Parkview is out and either Lowndes or Camden is out tonight, meaning there is at least a decent chance someone else (maybe a spread offense) wins.

One more thing… go Roswell! Don’t make this my last game as a student!

GO UG!

MAYBE A SPREAD OFFENSE HASN’T WON A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP BFORE…3714 YARDS HASN’T BEEB THROWN FOR IN A SINGLE SEASON BFORE, NEITHER HAS 545 YARDS IN A SINGLE GAME. YET, LASSITER LEAD BY HUTSON MASON HAS ACCOMPLISHED BOTH THIS SEASON. HE WILL HOLD THE TD RECORD FOR A SEASON AFTER TONITE!

GO Cougars do not underestimate…MLK..they are a good solid football team and won’t roll over for you like others have in the past…Defense step it up and coverage team on PUNTS…and Kickoffs better make tackle or we could be crying by the end of the night…It just gets tougher every week of the playoffs…so STAY FOCUSED NEWNAN…

Leaving for Britt Moody Field to watch Grayson take care of business against the Hornets. The team is already pumped up and can’t wait! Grayson will win by dominating time of possession and controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Pemberton is ready. Champaign is ready. Rams by two touchdowns!

The last 3 non playoff games Grayson played were with bad teams, The starting players didn’t play in the second half plus grayson had a bye week. so the last month of football games was a step back for the grayson team. After the first playoff game (21-14), Grayson will play better vs Roswell. Newman will be tough. all top 6 rake teams are very good.

Don’t forget everyone… P’tree Ridge didn’t make it further in the finals in 2007 only because of that horrible call made by the officials in the last seconds of the game! Even the TV announcers said that the Ridged got ripped off. Right now my stomach feels like there are enough butterflies in it to fill up Calloway Gardens!

Lions, you have made the last four years so exciting and I’ve grown to LOVE HS Football. Thank you for that! But, I’m not yet ready to give it up, so Bust them Broncos!!!

Oh no, we are in trouble. It is going to be very hard for our Eagles to beat a team from metropolitan Atlanta. We just are not good enough to beat a powerhouse Atlanta program. :-)

Bears don’t stay down long. Griffin connects on a 73 yard TD pass to take a 7-3 lead on Ware County with about 5 minutes left in the 1st.
