By the way, I just want to say that I have the utmost respect for Roswell, Marietta and all the teams we played during the year. I have seen some amzing football this year! I respect all of the teams that made it to the playoffs as they have shown that for this year, on these nights, they are the best. Good luck to all in the rest of the playoffs.

NG, I guess we will see you at the Dome! ;) Sorry I just couldn’t resist! :) :) :)

I think that since there are 3 Gwinnett teams left in the final 8 for 5A there is a pretty good chance that Gwinnett County will have at least 1 team in the dome.

For that matter with Buford, Wesleyan, Grayson, Peacthree Ridge, and North Gwinnett still left in the playoffs, there is almost zero chance that Gwinnett will not have a team in the dome. And I would say chances are pretty good that Gwinnett County will bring home at least 1 championship.

Go Gwinnett!!!

While checking out the AAAA coaches poll on gasports.com I was simply amazed that they have TCC ranked 8th…come on guys give me a break!!! Three of the teams ranked above us lost—SWD, Marist, Hiram and the other team ranked above us(Westside Macon), we beat easily for the region 1 championship!!!!!! Wow, you talking about disrespect…that is major disrespect right there!!!! I understand that you have to earn respect and that is what we’ve done on the field. But still the state of ga continues to overlook TCC!!! Thats cool..we will just keep proving the doubters wrong!!! The YELLOW JACKET NATION is fired up and our team is ready to hit Sandy Creek in the mouth friday night!!! LET’S GO JACKETS!!!!

I would be willing to bet that the state champion is a gwinnett team. let’s face it, Newnan, Lassiter, and Colquitt just arent quite good enough, which leaves P ridge, camden, N Gwinnett, Grayson, and NSWR. If I had to choose one right now, I would pick Grayson. They are just such a consistent team with a defense that always steps up to the plate.

Good luck to N Gwinnett on beating Camden. Give them another long ride home.

I really feel sorry for dekalb schools not having their own stadiums, but it really isnt practical. Would you expect to see a high school in upper manhattan to have their own football stadium? no, football just isnt suitable as an urban sport. and SWD player, I’m pretty sure that Gwinnett has more high schools than dekalb (18 vs dekalb’s 13) so it isnt a problem of players being spread out over multiple schools.

With all due respect, Senior, I do not think anyone should take Newnan, Lassiter or Camden lightly. Those are all very strong teams. Colquitt should at least expose whether Lassiter has any vulnerabilities. My fear about Lassiter is that football games with them take on more of a basketball strategy. Sounds like they trot down the field every 4 or 5 minutes and make another basket. And without any defense the opponents do the same. It may come down to ball management in the last 5 minutes if a team can even hang with them through the first 3 quarters. A team like Camden or Grayson may have the best luck against them by controlling the clock on long drives.

There is still plenty of exciting football left to play by the best teams in Georgia. Not one of those teams would have made it to this level without a very strong team.

And congratz to “title town” for such a strong showing. The rest of us are in awe of your football mastery.

The problem with that sort of trash talk, Senior, is that old dirty shoes just do not taste very good. The remaining teams are good teams that deserve considerable respect for making it to this level. For example, Newnan is a dangerous team and it will take a very good game by Grayson to notch a win against them. It may take a good game by North and a bad game by Camden for North to even have a chance against such a superior team.

The Lowndes/Camden game was a chess match between Herron and McPhearson….Herron was ready for any and everything McPhearson brought to the table and he countered every attack…too bad Lowndes couldn’t find a way to get the momentum back…Camdem ran the ball the whole second half…even on fourth down…you gotta get a stop!! The turnovers didn’t help Lowndes either…I called that out earlier in the week…you gotta be focus and prepared for a stuggle on the road playing a team like Camden. All in all a good season…maybe next year will be better.

I want to clarify a few things.
First, I am not upset that P’Ridge lost to NG. We didn’t play the way we should have, I’m not making excuses, the best team won. I wish NG all of the luck, they have a few tough games ahead of them.
Second, I know that the kids from our school act out as well, as all teenagers will. I do think that it goes a long way in heading off trouble to try to keep the two schools somewhat seperated.
Third, we did see a lot of NG people around and when we (band chaperones) tried to point out somethings that we saw that didn’t look right to us we got an “oh, well” and ignored. I was not trying to make a blanket statement. If you can not handle the fact that the experience we had at your field was a bad one, and I am sure that there are other P’Ridge adults that were there can tell you the same, then maybe you need to look at what is going on.
Fourth, the bleachers are metal looking boards and two of the boards slid out at was at the top of the stairs in the area where the band was. That was how the parent and the guard girl got hurt the metal edges. Suwannee police were there, and I did state that they did offer assistance. I had a problem with the fact that I was walking a young lady out around the track with how many NG folks around and I am holding pressure on her hand to keep it from bleeding and you all just stood there looking at me, no one even asked what had happened. Now just take a minute and put yourself in my spot. What if you had been trying to take care of one of your students and you were ignored. What kind of impression would that have made on you?
I did not say anything about the announcer or the game, please remember that. My concerns were how hard it was to get someone to mark the area so others would not get hurt and taking care of someone injured.
Safety in an event like these is first, and as the adults at these events we should be paying attention to that before we are anything else.
Sorry, about this being long. I knew if I posted the first time someone from NG would get offended that’s why I waited.

Just returned back to Southern California from the Grayson/ Roswell game. A few comments. A very tough battle between 2 teams using ALL resources to advance. Special teams proved bg for grayson…but not as big as an unveiled running attack that had not been used of late. Roswell is the gritiest/stingiest team Grayson played to date this year. Very well coached! For Grayson to move with 10 stacked in the box was really something to watch! Field conditions will be a major factor in Fridays game! Whoever took the picture of the Grayson Longsnapper from AJC….nice photo of a true skill very much overlooked during these playoffs..my hats off to your shot! Injuries are healing pretty well overall considering! Maybe we’ll have a Champaign Jam [ARS][band from Atlanta] song.. after this is all over! Ridge Mom. Frankly, I have lived in Suwanee over 30 years, and I have always found the people to be helpful and friendly. Well, except maybe for a few folks from the Sugarloaf subdivision; although even Sugarloaf has some wonderful, warm hearted people. So I am surprised that someone thinks Suwanee people are rude, and I would like to understand what happened.

I met my neighbors right away. Whenever a new family moves in, existing residents go out of their way to introduce themselves and usually do something like bake a pie or present some other house-warming gift. When we go on vacation we tell the neighbors and I know they will watch the house for us; I might even have the lawn mowed by someone before I get back. I have no reservations about allowing my teenagers to attend a concert at Suwanee Town Square without an adult to supervise, because I know it will be safe with plenty of police. So I am surprised you consider Suwanee folks to be rude, and I would like to understand.

To recap what I think you said: you asked police for assistance and they were helpful. But there may be some sort of problem with loose metal boards in the stands. I am going to check those stands myself to see if there is anything that can be done to secure them. In the 15 years or so that I have attended events in those stands, I was not aware of any such issues. I believe you, but I never heard of a problem like that before. I’ll see what I can do. I am sure the administration is concerned about safety issues.

Next, you walked around the outside of the track holding a teenager’s hand during the biggest game of the year, and nobody noticed, therefore Suwanee people are rude. OK, you got me. I guess I am rude by that definition. If I were in that part of the stadium, I probably would have been bent over the fence watching the game. If I happened to notice a mom holding a teenager’s hand I would not have thought anything of it. My wife and daughter do that sort of thing all the time. If you said something, it might have depended on what was going on in the game as to whether I would take a huge interest. I probably would point you in the direction of emergency personnel, but I am not sure I would take you there myself, if P Ridge was “driving the ball” or something like that.

Alright – guilty. I guess I am rude in your world. You’re from Sugarloaf, right? But I am not sure that I would announce to the world that Suwanee is a hostile environment full of rude people based upon that definition of rude. I think you do a disservice to your community with that sort of pronouncement.

By the way, your band is fantastic, and you have an outstanding music program at Peachtree Ridge. Thank you for allowing the County to use your facility for practices by the Kendall Honors Orchestra. Thank you for allowing the County to use your theater for performances by the Gwinnett County Youth Symphony. Those are programs that improve the quality of education in Gwinnett for many students, and we appreciate your gracious loan of the facility.

I hope my comments are taken in the right context because calling for a man job isnt my style, but in the case of RON GARTRELL This is unbelievable how he waiste teams with the amount of talent he had this year. I have been following this team for years and we are talented every year and we always use the excuse about sending kids to school, sending kids to school is your job and with the talent you are given every year these kids are going to school on talent you get credit for putting kids in school when you are paying for it out of your pocket.Hell in 05 you had the whole sec on one defense, rilley shepard and cunningham and thats not including the player of the year MARCUS BALL.If a coach cant win a state tittle with a team like that team what makes us think he will ever win one.the community should be outraged because you have given your time, money and your chidren and you deserve better. RAYMOND SANDRS ,MICHEAL THORNTON,TYRON CONNELIUS,CHRIS SHARP ,JABARI ,KENNY LATTLIER, NATHAN BENFORD,DENZEL HARTLY, AND a host of others wait until the world see the type of players these are and believe me when these guys get on the college level you will be proud.THE sad part about all of this is as long as coach GARTRELL is the coach we wont be taken serious, example EAN PEMBERTON of grayson is 5-4 dont get me wrong is a great back but since his team is being taken serious and in contention he will get the notoriety thats needed to get to the next level. RAYMOND SANDERS should have been considered one of the top backs in the state but he was only talked about in games where he had to steal the show. I know your going to say stephenson was on ESPN no mack brown was on ESPN and RAYMOND stole the show.I know i said i dont call for a man job but in this situation i will .I didnt want to POST directly after the game because i didnt want to pile on because those kids was crushed and they worked so hard and they deserve better .If Gartrell is the coach next season you just lost another fan today.

Suwanee Ownz– I echo your sentiments. I have been involved with the athletic programs at North Gwinnett (both youth and High School) for some time and have never seen a situation where opposing teams and fans were treated rudely or unsportsmanlike. I’m sorry that the band member was hurt, but from your account of the events it sounds if it was an accident that happened in the stands and the emergency personnel on hand took steps to ensure the situation was handled. The fact that everyone on the track didn’t take the time away from the game to inquire about the situation is just crazy. The only time I have witnessed any unsportsmanship or classless acts was in 2007 when after the game (NG Won), a PTR player sucker punched a NG player as the two teams were shaking hands. Now that is unsportsman like behavior.

The NG/PTR rivalry is a heated one that is between 2 of the best teams in the state. Both teams are well coached and the players are top notch. Let’s hope we get to see you guys again in the dome.

Hehe. We might recognize each other, NG Dad. I coached a youth football team for a few years (among many other community activities). Just now I have kids I coached coming on to the teams for both North and P Ridge. It is very satisfying to see some of these kids do well at the next level.

Fortunately, none of our kids are going to Buford, anymore. If anything, it is great to see a talented kid like Scotty Hosch coming back to North where he belongs. I have little worry about the team if Uzomah gets hurt, with a kid like Scotty ready to run the offense. Hopefully, Scotty proved himself to the rest of the community when he drove the team for a touchdown late in the Centennial game. I never coached Scotty myself, but I know how talented he is. I was an avid fan of his brother, Twoey, when he led Buford to a State Championship a few years back. Too bad we let Twoey get away.

Columbia Blue you said “At the Newnan game last year (Camden played at Newnan), they had a really big hostile crowd and we hung 27 on them and only gave up 7. They had only given up 33 points all season. Nothing in the past matters anyway.”
We did have a good crowd but hanging 27 on us you make it sound like it was domination it was not!! Camden played on our side of the field most of the first half becuse of 2 turnovers they did not have a drive greater than 35 yards all night 1 turnover was unforced they scored on their second possesion after another fumble on a flukish 4th down play… Newnan never recovered Newnan came out and scored a TD in the 3rd quarter (the game should have been tied at that point) the last TD Camden had was late after the Newnan squad turned it over on downs in their own territory… Bulldawg… My advice to the North Gwinnett team is to not to think to highly of this team they are a solid team who capitilizes on mistakes Play your game and take care of the ball… The Newnan Team looked like a deer in headlights and played the 1st half of football that way….They are just like any other football team in the state that is left.
Playoffs determine the best Team and they can only line up 11 not 111

inthatrenches

Did you really post this??? come on man!!! 27 to 7 on your field. You got whipped and there was a reason your team looked like a deer in headlights and gave up flukish turnovers!! Great defs overcome (camden gave lowndes the football on a muffed punt around our 40yard line and shut them down) thats what great defs do at home when the games on the line!! So quit making excuses you got beat soundly at home by a better team!!
Camdens playoff record against newnan
2008 27 to 7
2005 50 to 0
2003 20 to 10

To all Grayson fans get ready for the excuses when you BEAT newnan (its already started with coin toss)!!

Wildcat, it depends on what you want.

There are several motels/hotels at the Lawrenceville Suwanee Rd exit off of I 85. That is about 5 miles from the school. I believe there is a Days Inn, a Fairfiled, and a couple of others. There is also a variety of decent food along Lawrenceville Suwanee Rd.

I am pretty sure if you search the internet for accomodations in Suwanee you will find those and perhaps a few others scattered in the area. A little further away, there are more hotels near the Sugarloaf exit off I 85.

I would recommend not waiting to make a reservation since accomodations in the area may be taxed because of the holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving! Have a safe trip. This should be a very exciting game.

Martin resigned last week after taking Windsor Forest to its fourth consecutive playoff appearance in AAAAA. The coach said Windsor Forest would have trouble improving on his record as long as the school is required to play in the highest classification despite AAA enrollment numbers.

“I think the kids are missing out on opportunities if we were in a different classification,” Martin told Rich McGowan of the Savannah Morning News. “There’s a lot of issues in Savannah that haven’t been addressed and need to be addressed and I just don’t see it changing much.”

Martin was 29-25 in five years at Windsor Forest, a middle-sized school that plays in Region 3-AAAAA. Windsor Forest, with projected enrollment of 1,300 students for the 2010-11 academic year, lost to Union Grove 47-20 in the first round this season.

The problem with Dekalb schools starts with the county robbing the good teams of the money that they bring in. The better teams need to get a lot bigger share of the pie than teams that never compete .There are not any lights onthe practice fields , no score clocks on the fields for the freshmen games. The weight rooms are mid 1980’s or less. There are not any big business around that support the programs , all the Asians come into the community and make money but dont support the schools and then they go back to gwinnett or othe counties. With all of that being said that still does not make u win or lose the game it comes down to coaching and having good assistants who can demand to be heard from . The head coach cannot run the whole team you have to be open minded and listen when things continually dont work in the playoffs. These coaches at these schools are good coaches because it takes more than what you see on Fridays to make a team. They are good organizers of the off season work outs and setting up programs and the over all building of a football team. The the thing they must learn to do is to not take criticism personal, when the people in the stands can see the same problems week end and out somebody on the coaching has to be seeing the same thing. No one Knows every thing about any profession no matter how good they are at that job.I see a lot of stubborness in the coaches at these schools they seem to tighten up when they get in big game situations and forget all the different plays that they have in their play book. The head coach does not make a good play caller a lot of times because he’s to concerned with what can go wrong on a given play and that makes him revert back to something simple and easily diagnosed by the defense or offense of the other team. They have got to open up and let their coaching staff introduce new ideas that they see while the game is going on because u can only think so fast and see so much while the game is being played. These coaches really work hard at their craft and do a very good job over all they just need to do a little tweaking to their style.

TCCHS JACKETS,

Yea I know when the polls come out, but I’m referring to those teams being ranked above us even before they lost. My contention is Marist, Hiram and Westside Macon should have never been ranked above us even before last friday night. Heck, I dont even think Sandy Creek should be ranked above us!! But anyway, I do understand that the rankings dont even matter right now…we just have to keep winning and the rest will take care of itself!! I do know that Sandy Creek will be better than Richmond so we gotta be ready to play and I hope and believe we will.

Hey Jacket, on another note….I would like to play golf friday in Thomasville…is the country oaks golf course in good shape?? Just checking to see if you know anything about that?? Thanks for your help and I can’t’ wait for friday night…I will be there with bells on and my headphones so I can hear Randy Young call the game!!

The AJC put up their idea at how the regions should be aligned anf they had Camden in 1AAAA. They claim they would actually travel less because of fewer region teams.

Here’s how we’d do Class AAAAA:

1-AAAAA (6 teams)
Camden County (moved from 3-AAAAA)
Coffee
Colquitt County
Lowndes
Tift County
Valdosta (playing up)

Going down: Houston County, Northside, Warner Robins

Notes: Four current 1-AAAAA schools were assigned to Class AAAA because of declining enrollment. Schools may choose to play in higher classes than the ones they’ve been assigned. We expect Valdosta to play up while the Houston County schools (Warner Robins, Northside, Houston County) play in AAAA. Do we think the GHSA is going to put Camden County in this region? We’ll believe it when we see it. But here’s the logic: The average road trip for Camden County in the new Region 1-AAAAA would be 121 miles. The average trip in Region 3-AAAAA would be 107 miles. But in 1-AAAAA, there are only five opponents. Let’s do the math: Five road trips times 121 miles is 606. Seven road trips times 107 miles is 749. In other words, Camden will travel less in a six-team Region 1-AAAAA than an eight-team Region 3-AAAAA. We realize that Camden pays many Savannah schools to give up their home football games and come to Camden, but that’s irrelevant because the travel for the region overall is the same whether Savannah comes to Camden County or vice-versa. GHSF Daily asked Camden County football coach and athletics director Jeff Herron about his school moving to Region 1. His answer: “I still don’t see how we could with the consideration we must give to the other sports. It would force all of our other sports to play all of their games on the weekends [because of long travel on week days]. But, with that few of schools [in Region 1], the region schedule might be easier to pull off. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens

As far as Camdedn is concerned you can put us in the SEC. Newnan fan, Ian Days (you remember # 32) Had over 120 yards, scored two touchdowns and made your safety look like he was drunk. Heck who carses anyway. you believe what you want.

The Newnan Fans respect the Grayson program the coaching staff, players, and fans. We have said all year to be the best you have to beat the best. At this time Grayson is ranked Number 1 so thats who we want to play. I can assure everyone that Coach McDonald will have the Cougars ready to play. Our Run Game will be strong and supported by an accurate deep threat Passing Game. I can also ensure everyone that win or loose the Newnan Cougar Program which includes our fans will be respectful to the host school and the talent on both teams. Go Cougars!!!

Guy’s I forgot something Newnan will also be bringing a little Defense with us. Some people say they are The Best in the State. We look forward to testing them against such a polished program as Grayson.
Go Cougars!!!

I think Most in Grayson feel the same about Newnan. Newnan is a great team. All eight teams remaining are really good and any one of them could win and it wouldn’t be surprising.
