I am feeling a Woodstock upset tommorrow , kind of having my doubts about Region 7 this year . NG defeated Prattville early in the season and a then seemingly struggling Brookwood..Not much competetion after that to speak of….We all know that Georgia plays the best High School football in the southeast , How much weight does this Prattville win carry?……Pridge was scrapped off the field by the Lowndes County EMT’s with 50 plus points on their backs , and an unimpressive 14 -7 win over Kell….How much weight does NG win over Pridge carry?…….I like this Woodstock team, I keep up with their stats, other than MaCeachern defensively they hadn’t give up much ,It’s no accident this squad played Camden so well in the 3rd round last season……And if anyone hadn’t noticed they are 16-2 since the Oct 2008 loss to Harrison ……..This one gets a ENR special…”UPSET ALERT” Colquitt at Stephenson……..This is a hard one , It all depends which Colquitt team shows up…..Defensively if the Pack come out aggressive from the start they should stop any team ,the Pack didn’t start playing ball against Northside til the second half ,then made a contest of it…….Offensively if the Stephenson DC didn’t do his homework on the Packs offense ,they will put up some good numbers on the Jags , you can’t play this offensive from only from upstairs only…….I think the Pack is still a year out …..I am taking Stephenson in a close one..

MLK-Newnan: Newnan. Sorry, region 2 friends, but the Ogletree twins are no contest over the MLK team. MLK isn’t strong enough to overpower this Newnan team.

Take Newnan.

South Gwinnett-Lassiter. Hutson Mason could throw for 300 yards blindfolded and still win. I like Lassiter here. Just for fun.

Also just for fun. Brookwood “P-Ridges” Peachtree Ridge, to keep Brookwood Mom’s fire burning.

Union Grove-NSWR.
I like Union Grove to come in and end the swagger at the MAC. Somebody needs to learn that this week’s game isn’t guaranteed, and it ain’t over til the band plays the fight song and the clock hits 0.

In 2008 our lead back was injured, and, IMHO, the formations we implemented led aboslutely nowhere. Our offense is completely different than last year (both good and bad) and we’ll just see how it plays out. I hope we win, and I think we can.

This is a quote from the Valdosta newspaper inregarding of classification for the Camden haters out there. This may clear some stuff up for you all.

“From a football standpoint, (Region 1-AAAAA) would be a possibility,” Coach Herron said. “We’d be talking about a long trip every other Friday. If you just look at football, you could do it.”
However, Herron said a move to Region 1-AAAAA would “absolutely destroy” other sports like basketball, baseball and softball. Because of the 100 mile rule, those teams would be forced to play all of their region games on Fridays and Saturdays, because high school teams are not permitted to travel over 100 miles for games on school nights. None of the teams projected to be in Region 1-AAAAA for the next four years are within 100 miles of Kingsland.
“There’s nothing we can do about it. We have to play where they put us, whether we like it or not,” Herron said.

Reese, I see a woostock upset also. With Colquitt, I WANT them to win because they’re from my region, but I’m afraid it won’t happen. Northside will have a practice game with our friend “Go UG’s” team. I just hope we can keep our win streak against Camden going. The overall record with Lowndes and Camden is 6 – 6 with us winning 3 out of 4 in the playoffs. The last two games we’ve shut them out.

AVikingFan- You are right about the last two games being shutouts. The first one you got the best of us, the second, was a close 10-0 game, that could have gone either way, but that was in the semi game a couple of years ago, so those game dont count anymore since there is probally no one left from those teams. New year, same course. The winner of the game will win State. Good luck and wish for a good clean game as always…

What other choice does Camden have? There are no other real 5-A schools on the coast. You will need other schools on the coast to play up……which would again give Camden an advantage. I’m not sure you’re going to get other school’s(Savannah, Jenkins, Johnson, Windsor Forest, Brunswick etc…) to play up just to be a sacrifical lamb for Camden.

White trash – Lowndes has 6 starters who started as sophomores the last time we beat Camden. Would have been 8 but two are injured. The reason I mentioned our record against Camden is that so many people act like Camden is unbeatable in the playoffs and are therefore afraid of them. The North Carolina Baby Blue Cats may win the game, but Lowndes is going over there full of confidence and eager to make a statement, and I assure you we are NOT afraid. We have beat ya’ll 3 out of 4 times in the playoffs. The last two were shutouts. Just sayin…..

Since Kingsland is basically North Jacksonville, let Camden play the large schools from Jacksonville. Maybe we could make a trade with Florida. We give them Camden County and they stop asking for water from lake Lanier!!

REESE – have you read the quote from Jeff Herron in today’s Valdosta Daily Times? He said they could work it out in football to play in region 1, but GHSA regulations pertaining to travel on school days (when followed by a school day) limits a school to travel 100 miles one way, and therefore all other sports would have to schedule all their region games on Friday or Saturday, something he said was impossible. The closest region 1 school is Coffee, 102 miles away.

Camden might be able to petition Duvall County to play with them (Florida) herron didn’t say that – that’s might suggestion for their delemna.

Put Camden in 2-AAAA, GHSA drop region 3-AAAA. The schools in 2-AAAA are closer to Camden. So then you will have a legitimate AAAAA school in AAAA. Then Camden will hear, why do you have a AAAAA school playing AAAA football? The schools in AAAA are at a disadvange because they have fewer students than Camden because Camden is is larger. The region setup goes beyond football, this is a small part of it, and everyone has to look beyond football and see the other parts of the picture.

For all of the ones who seem to know what classification a school should play, If Bradwell Institute played down in Class AAAA, then what Region should they play in? Right now, Region 4-AAAA is too far, Region 2 -AAAA will be too far, Region 1-AAAA will be too far. In the new classification, The the only schools that will a acceptable to Bradwell would only be Glynn Academy, Brunswick, and Effingham County. That is it. Bradwell Institute can’t drop to Class AAA because of the enrollment. Bradwell Institute lacks approximately 52.5 students to be a true Class AAAAA school. I believe that things will remain the way they are due to travel cost and travel restrictions.

In my opinion, if travel restrictions were not an issue along with travel cost, It would be nice to put Bradwell Institute with the Middle Georgia Teams example: Northside Warner Robins, Warner Robins, Houston County, Griffin, Jenkins, along with Glynn Academy, Brunswick, Richmond Hill, Effingham County, South Effingham County. make that Region 3-AAAA. The strength of schedule will be a lot stronger than playing so many of the Savannah Schools that is classified lower. But that will not happen.

But I will guarantee you that the student enrollment will increase by more than 52.5 students and it will again be a True Class AAAAA School. You are also right AVikingFan.. After having two of our key senior players go down with injury, please let me say I sincerely hope no other team experiences this and here forward all the young men playing their hearts out to entertain us old couch potatoes, hasbeens and wouldabeens, do it without injury. We’re down to 16 teams in each classification, 8 will go on. God, please bless each and all the players and coaches, and give them good weather to perform in. Every team who has made it this far should be proud of that accomplishment. Good luck tomorrow night fellow boggers, and be safe traveling to and from games.

Liberty County could not [play up. They are in Class AAA. However; it would be great to have Brunswick, Glynn Academy to play up but take note of their school enrollment. SportsFan31313, I suppose other possible schools to join Camden might include Ware County, Wayne County, Statesboro, and the two Effingham schools – basically, Region 2-AAAA. Unfortuneately, I’m not sure that any of these schools other than maybe Ware and Brunswick would put up any more resistance than Camden’s current region.

Obviously, Camden County’s lack of competition is at least partially due to the size advantage it has over other schools playing above their population level. I believe Camden is the largest school in the state outside of Gwinnett County; has there ever been talk of adding a second school to the county? That might even things out.

The real issue with Camden County is that they will do and say anything not to have to split that school up. Because you know once they do that we won’t hear from Camden County anymore. It’ll be that same as what happened to Effingham once they split that school. Any football team can beat another. I’m sure the SG qb is good. Hutson Mason deserves the hype. He is a record setting star! 3714 passing yards for the season, 545 passing yards in a single game and will hold the season passing TD record after tomorrow night. Camden should build a new high school. of course for the first 3 or 4 yearsthe original school will be larger and the football team way better. but after the new program is set up then the amount of kids and football players will even out. it should put both teams in AAAA i dont know if any other AAAA teams are down there but it would fix the 5AAAA problem and make it easier for the savannah schools to play in AAAA. and just because the district splits it does not mean both teams can not be successful.

Even if you split up Camden County you would have about 1800 to 2000 in Kingsland and only about 1000 in the rest of the county. We would all rather have city schools down here, because some our children are on the bus for over 30 min (without traffic) just to get to school. The reality of it is it would not be cost effecient to have city schools in most of our counties.

hsfootballfan Georgia went to AAAAA in 2000. Parkview won the 1st three, then Camden in 2003. Lowndes in 2004 and 2005. Peachtree Ridge and I think Roswell tied as co-champs in 2006, Lowndes won in 2007 and Camden won in 2008. Lowndes and Camden runs the Wing T. I dont believe any AAAAA champions have run the spread.

Thank you for the answers to my questions. It seems to me that all 5-A state champs in georgia run for the dough, and only throw to show, and all these teams had great defences. I think the passing teams will be in trouble.

It should be noted that all of the Warner Robins schools are more than 100 miles to Valdosta and vice versa. They have been in Region 1AAAAA for the last 2 years.

Why don’t we think out of the box here GHSA and Region 3AAAAA.
Let the smaller schools play football in the classification they belong in and then let them play the other sports in AAAAA.

Camden could be in Region 1AAAAA for football and in Region 3AAAAA in all other sports.

I know, that is to simple to do.

HFA question? when has Lowndes in this decade went on the road and won a playoff game? I think it happened 1 time outside of the Georgia dome?

Roswell would have been the closest thing to a passing team of all the state champions in AAAAA.

hsfootball fan you hit it on the head….defense is where it starts if you want a state championship.

Why don’t some of ya’ll go down to Camden County and give them the 10-12 million needed to build a new high school. And as for those posters who keep saying “just put Camden in Region 1-AAAAA”, WHY do you want to put boys ANG girls, because we’re talking about all sports, on a school bus on Tuesdays to travel 150 miles to play a sport then 150 miles back and go to school then next day? That’s just plain darn STUPID. Plain and simply STUPID! If you were a parent of one of these kids you’d be raising hell at whoever thought of that dumb butt idea! Move on people. Get another cause. Join Greenpeace, be a tree hugger or something, just quit trying to put your football “whims” ahead of students and their education! THIS IS A FOOTBALL BLOG.

inthatrenches (from some butt conference whatever it is) why don’t you think traveling 220 miles one way to Atlanta to play a daggum football game is not a ROAD TRIP? Tell the bus drivers, players, coaches, cheerleaders, Board of Education Members who furnished busses and paid for diesil, and fans who coughed up all that motel money and restaurant money they weren’t road trips. That’s a DUMB thing to say inthewhatever daggum trenches. DUMB! 220 MILES ONE WAY IS A ROAD TRIP!!!!!!!!
Besides, we somehow have won 3 state championships this decade. Only Parkview can say that besides Lowndes, and we have a chance for a 4th. Parkview doesn’t.

Camden will always have one high school. Our numbers do not compare to many metro Atlanta schools. Everyone complains about our region but the fact is we traveled to Newnan and beat them 27-7 and Pridge 21-7(Last season) . What happens in the play-offs is all that matters. It is a shame that Camden is playing Lowndes in the second round. One of the better teams in the State will not advance. As a Camden fan, whoever wins tomorrow night will have it a whole lot easier in the third forth and State Championship game.

why do people here hate camden county? The state has had 5 champs in 5-A classification with camden being one of those 5 teams, do you all hate the other past champs as well? Seems kinda childish to me

Yo, only Valdosta and Lowndes are over 100 miles to Warner Robins. I’m sure you know outr 9 th grade and BTeams did not play any of the Warner Robins schools. It was a nightmare scheduling baseball, track, basketball, softball, etc on Fridays and Saturdays for region games for us and Valdosta and the Houston county teams. With Camden, the closest 1-AAAAA school is Coffee. Every game in every sport with every team would have to be on Friday and/or Saturday. Why do adults want to put children on school busses for that many miles just to satisfy some football bloggers?

Sorry intha trenches – all this talk this week about putting our students on busses for how many miles ? has just gotten to me. I served on the Board of Education for 8 years and I know what a problem all that needless travel would be for the students, not just for Camden but for all the current region 1 schools having to go way over there. That’s something people haven’t even thought about. They’re just talking about Camden traveling. What about Tifton, Colquitt, Lowndes, Valdosta, Coffee, or Northside & WR if they decide to play up having to travel to Camden? Travel cost money. Taxes are down.

Again I apologize to you for losing my cool. But it IS a DUMB idea!

HFA hey I see alot of people commenting on travel ……I was just asking a question…. No problem… Lowndes won the 04′ championship game at Parkview the Dome has actually been like their second home….. The reason I ask was I seen Lowndes struggle with NSWR (on the road) and I thought it will be interesting which Lowndes team shows up? I am sure both teams will play well; but it may be more defensive than the offensive for both…
