Washington County at Peach County
When, where: 8 p.m. Friday, Anderson Stadium, Fort Valley
Records, rankings: Washington County is 10-1, the No. 2 seed from Region 3-AAA and ranked No. 9; Peach County is 11-0, the No. 1 seed from Region 1-AAA and ranked No. 3.
Last meeting: Peach County won 43-29 in the 2006 semifinals.
Three things to know:
1. Peach County quarterback Patrick Taylor has completed 66 percent of his passes and thrown for more than 2,000 yards in a balanced offense.
2. Washington County completed only two passes in a 28-21 victory against Troup, but Montravious “Whistle” Gladdin had 201 yards rushing and Darius Stephens had 145.
3. Peach County leads the series between these Middle Georgia schools 9-0-2 and has averaged more than 40 points per game in their past four meetings dating to 1999.
Winner plays: North Hall-St. Pius winner
North Hall at St. Pius
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, George B. Maloof Stadium, Atlanta
Records, rankings: North Hall is 9-2, the No. 2 seed from Region 7-AAA and ranked No. 7; St. Pius is 11-0, the No. 1 seed from Region 5-AAA and ranked No. 4.
Last meeting: This is the teams’ first meeting.
Three things to know:
1. St. Pius coach Paul Standard and North Hall coach Bob Christmas were hired by their schools in 2001 to take over programs that hadn’t won playoff games in more than 30 years.
2. Standard has gone 74-29, and he took St. Pius to the Class AAAA semifinals in 2006; Christmas has gone 77-28, and he took North Hall to the Class AAA semifinals in 2007.
3. Both are Wing-T teams. North Hall got 361 of its 418 total yards on the ground in a 39-21 victory over Ringgold last week, while St. Pius got 277 of its 330 yards on the ground in a 34-0 victory over Franklin County.
Winner plays: Washington County-Peach County winner
Liberty County at Jackson
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Red Devil Hill, Jackson
Records, rankings: Liberty County is 8-3, the No. 3 seed from Region 3-AAA and unranked; Jackson is 11-0, the No. 1 seed from Region 4-AAA and ranked No. 6.
Last meeting: This is the teams’ first meeting.
Three things to know:
1. Liberty County, coached by former Georgia tight end Kirk Warner, won its first playoff game in history last week with a 16-13 upset of LaGrange.
2. Jackson has lost its past four second-round games (2003-06) and is seeking to make the quarterfinals or better for the third time in its history after making it in 1963 and 2000.
3. Jackson’s star player is Neiron Ball, a defensive end and receiver who has committed to Florida. He scored the winning touchdowns against Woodward Academy and Monroe, which are Jackson’s biggest victories.
Winner plays: Carrollton-Eastside winner
Carrollton at Eastside
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Homer Sharp Stadium, Covington
Records, rankings: Carrollton is 10-1, the No. 2 seed from Region 6-AAA and unranked; Eastside is 9-2, the No. 1 seed from 8-AAA and unranked.
Last meeting: Eastside won 21-9 in the 2008 second round.
Three things to know:
1. Carrollton and Eastside are the only teams from their regions to advance to the second round.
2. Eastside was the defending champion in 8-AAA but not expected to repeat because of heavy graduation losses. The team swept through the region undefeated behind running back Git Aiken, the region player of the year.
3. Carrollton operates out of a Wing-T offense and has five players with at least 200 yards rushing, but watch out for AJ Barge, who has thrown for about 1,200 yards and averages almost 20 yards per completion.
Winner plays: Liberty County-Jackson winner
Dunwoody at Gainesville
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Bobby Gruhn Field, Gainesville
Records, rankings: Dunwoody is 7-4, the No. 2 seed from Region 5-AAA and unranked; Gainesville is 11-0, the No. 1 seed from Region 7-AAA and ranked No. 1.
Last meeting: This is the teams’ first meeting.
Three things to know:
1. Gainesville leads the Class AAA field in scoring offense (46.8 points per game), scoring defense (6.3) and scoring differential (+40.5).
2. Dunwoody finished the regular season as the third-leading rushing team in DeKalb County, trailing Stephenson and Tucker, with an average of 222.8 yards per game.
3. Gainesville quarterback Blake Sims, who has committed to Alabama, had 1,547 yards passing, 583 yards rushing and 164 yards receiving during the regular season.
Winner plays: Cairo-Baldwin winner
Cairo at Baldwin
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Braves Stadium, Milledgeville
Records, rankings: Cairo is 8-3, the No. 2 seed from Region 1-AAA and unranked; Baldwin is 9-2, the No. 1 seed from Region 3-AAA and ranked No. 5.
Last meeting: This is the teams’ first meeting.
Three things to know:
1. Defending AAA champion Cairo has reached the championship game in each of the past two seasons and is 10-1 in the playoffs since the start of the 2007 postseason.
2. Both teams lost to Peach County this season. Peach beat Cairo 24-13 on Oct. 9 and beat Baldwin 17-7 on Sept. 11.
3. Cairo’s scoring average of 18.0 is the lowest of the 16 teams remaining, but the Syrupmakers have averaged almost 24 points over the past seven games.
Winner plays: Dunwoody-Gainesville winner
Flowery Branch at Grady
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Lakewood Stadium, Atlanta
Records, rankings: Flowery Branch is 8-3, the No. 4 seed from Region 7-AAA and unranked; Grady is 10-1, the No. 3 seed from Region 5-AAA and unranked.
Last meeting: Grady won 32-29 in the 2006 second round.
Three things to know:
1. Flowery Branch was one of only three No. 4 seeds to win in the first round, and this will be the only second-round game matching a No. 4 seed against a No. 3.
2. Flowery Branch averages 41.9 points per game, trailing only Gainesville in Class AAA, but is allowing 24.5 points, the worst among the remaining 16 teams.
3. Grady survived its first-round game 26-21 when Hart County fumbled out of the end zone from the 1-yard line on the final play of the game.
Winner plays: Woodward Academy-Carver, Columbus winner
Woodward Academy at Carver, Columbus
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium, Columbus
Records, rankings: Woodward Academy is 8-3, the No. 2 seed from Region 4-AAA and unranked; Carver is 10-1, the No. 1 seed from Region 2-AAA and ranked No. 2.
Last meeting: Carver won 21-6 in the 2008 second round.
Three things to know:
1. Woodward Academy has given up an average of 10.3 points per game, but seven of its 11 opponents have scored a touchdown or less.
2. Carver has scored 27 points or more in every game except its 21-12 loss to Class AAAAA Northside of Warner Robins.
3. Woodward’s triple-option offense is led by fullback Juwan Thompson, who rushed for almost 200 yards in three quarters in the War Eagles’ 34-0 victory against Worth County last week. He is committed to Duke.
Winner plays: Flowery Branch-Grady winner

I think we all know that Gainesville and Peach will advance unless there happens to be another Liberty Co. vs Lagrange oddity this week.
I graduated from Jackson and hope to see the Devils take an easy win from Liberty County, but now that Liberty has the momentum from defeating the Grangers of Lagrange last week it will be a very good football game indeed.
In the end, I think that Jackson will have to fight the hardest they have this season in order to make it an easy win, and if they let their defense and offense slip like they did last week against Monro, then trouble could certainly arise for the Devils.
Go Jackson!

Liberty Co. had a great win last week aginst a big time team. But these are the playoffs can they duplicate that preformance again on the road. Jackson isn’t undefeated for nothing. They’ve made many playoff runs in the past. I look for them to come out and make a statement friday. I think it’s going to be hard to get those kids up for Jackson. my prediction JACKSON 24 LIBERTY CO. 17 in a close game.

GDF,
Greetings, I believe that it will be a good game at Red Devil Hill. I don’t know too much about Jackson in Class AAA becasue it has always been LaGrange, Carver of Columbus, Cairo, Gainesville, Peach County etc. But You all have the home field advantage. and you all have all state and D-1 player Neiron Ball . It will be a hard fought game.

Well let me tell you something about the Jackson Red Devils. They have outscored their opponents 353 to 104 in which two games were complete shutouts. Jackson’s star player is Neiron Ball, a defensive end, and receiver who is a Division 1 Player, and has already committed to the Florida Gators. He scored the winning touchdowns against Woodward Academy, and Monroe, which are Jackson’s biggest victories. The Atlanta Journal Constitution has it that Jackson has lost its past four second-round games, (2003-06) and is seeking to make the quarterfinals or better for the third time in its school’s history after making it in 1963, and 2000
This will be a good game. But I will say to you that if you think that you are going to take or hope for an easy win as stated against Liberty County, you had better think again. Also, if you really think that you all would win because of Homefield Advantage, you had better think again. This will be a hard fought game. GDF, and Trojan94 speak as if it was some big fluke that Liberty County beat LaGrange. This is Georgia Football at it’s best. On any given Friday Night Under the Lights, a undefeated team can be beaten. May the best team win.

im a waco fan forever but the only way we will beat peach is if we come out with a new game plan on offense because the 7 play rotation we got with 4 being run plays will not work…also with baldwin laying the game plan down on how to stop our run game……i hope our coaches will take new steps in making a offensive game plan this week because the days of just over powering teams left when coach t did…on defense when our easily shaking cb get burn for long td’s we switch to a weak zone we been running all year….with no real blitzing or new wrinkles in it,it got easily exposed by burke, then richmond hill and last week by troup………so when we switch to it on peach i already know it will be a long night lol……..

Here are my predictions for the Second Round:
Peach Co D. Washington Co – Peach Co. wins this in Blowout Fashion!
St. Pius X D. North Hall – Good close game but the Lions of St. Pius X will prevail in the end.
Liberty Co. D. Jackson – Liberty Co. is going to pull off another upset when they beat a not so good #1 seed in Jackson.
Carrollton D. Eastside – Carrollton is just too big and strong for Eastside.
Gainesville D. Dunwoody – This game will be another practice game for Gainesville as they will take down Dunwoody and then be lookin for Baldwin in the third round.
Baldwin D. Cairo – Baldwin is just too good for the rebuilding Syrupmakers
Flowery Branch D. Grady – Flowery Branch are the road warriors and they do not plan on losing no time soon.
Carver D. Woodward Academy – Carver is just too big and strong for nearly anyone in the state, but Woodward will be looking for the upset bid, but will fail!

I don’t think liberty co. is a fluke, what they did last week proves that. Because winning in Lagrange is very very tough to do. But i look for Jackson to come out and play with more passion than they did last week,You’er right, any body can get beat at any given time by another team. THAT INCLUDES LIBERY CO. I’M STICKING TO MY PERDICTION. JACKSON OVER LIBERTY CO. 24-17

There is absolutely no fluke that Liberty County won last week against a great Team with a winning tradition. If the tables were turned would you say that Jackson would beat LaGrange? Please answer that question. Liberty County is a very good team this year, and I honestly believe that they will make it ti the Dome. This game will be no push over, and will be a very hard fought game. This game may be decided by a filed goal. I believe that Liberty County County will win. Probably by three or less.

Trojan94,
It’s been said that “A man with no confidence in self ,has been twice defeated in the race of life”. ” “With Confidence, you have won before you have even started.” Liberty County is playing with a lot of confidence. Let just see. Again, this will be a hard fought game, but win or lose, I am still a proud fan of them. Who are you a fan of, and did you attend there?

This is for you:
No. 3 seeds: Ten No. 3 seeds escaped the first round, but I see only two making it to the quarterfinals — Liberty County and Westminster. But don’t count out Rockdale County against Hiram (another difficult pick) or defending Class AAAA champion Tucker, which plays at Sandy Creek.

I know for a fact that Liberty County has a much harder schedule than Jackson does, and Jackson is being criticized for being ranked so high because people believe we aren’t in a hard region, but what it comes down to is one team’s tactics versus the other. Lagrange had multiple attempts last week in the kicking department to take the lead late in the game but Monsour failed to kick the point twice. Not to discredit Liberty, because they did beat a very good Lagrange team fair and square, but I believe that the game tomorrow will be a close one, with Jackson prevailing in the end.
Although I am from Jackson, I am not biased because I am analyizing it from every possible perspective. JACKSON WINS OVER LIBERTY COUNTY 21-17. That is my guess.
PS: The AJC team doesnt go to every one of these teams games and see how they play. They simply look at the scores and main players and make a quick prediction. And last week, a fw of their predictions were wrong. Not to be repetitive…BUT….it will be a good game, but the odds are against Liberty Co. If they can upset Jackson then they deserve to make it to the dome. The end.

Thats pretty much the way I look at it. Weak region or not, it still takes good coaching to have a team unbeaten at this time of the year. This question is for you sportsfan31313. Before that game would you have picked Liberty over the Grangers.

I don’t know much about Jackson, but I do a lot about Liberty County. Look at Liberty County Schedule, and the teams they have beaten, look at who they lost to, and by the margin of lost, and then look at the schedule that Jackson has played. What I do know, is that giving credit to Jackson, I will say that it will be a hard fought game, but I giving Liberty County the win. Three Point or less win maybe.

WOW!!!! I’m liking these debates. keep it coming.

The fact is, is that Liberty County lost those games…whether the margin was close or not. It isn’t close games that give you higher rankings and it isn’t losing that helps you ascend–instead it is winning. Jackson is 11-0 this season and played a decent Monroe team last week. Jackson played very poorly last week (perhaps the worst this season) and still managed a 7 point win against Monroe.
Secondly, although Liberty County did play two ranked teams in their regular season, and one was particularly close (@ Washington County), the other (@ Baldwin) was not close at all! Jackson has outscored their opponents by almost 200 points this season and have early Florida recruit Neiron Ball to thank for that. Sure, Liberty County has seen the likes of Lagrange’s well balanced squad and an amazing Baldwin team, but I personally do not think they have seen the likes of Neiron Ball this season.
Thirdly, Liberty County has pulled out a few close victories this season, perhaps due to the toughness of their region, but Jackson has put teams out in blowout fashion even using some JV ad third string players. The fact is, that Jackson is very well balanced and has an awesome coaching staff while Liberty County is new to the playoff scene and not to discredit them, but they simply are not as put together as the Red Devils are. Im sure they are all pumped with adrenaline and excitement because of their defeat of Lagrange, but Jackson is aimed for playing Peach County in the semifinals and I do not see them letting Liberty County put an end to their amazing season so far!
Lastly, these sports debates are very fun and I think both teams are set on playing their best and pulling out a win. There is obviously no sure way to know what the scores will be or who will be the victor, hence the term “predictions”… BUT I think we all know that the game will be fought with passion from both sides and that both teams will have to implement better passing offense and iron defense than they have all year. It should be a crowd pleasing game and I look forward to it. Nobody would have seen Lagrange being knocked out so early so who knows what is to come of this week. I am sticking with my initial score of JACKSON-21 & LIBERTY CO. -17

GDF,
Oh No? In my Region 3-AAAAA you have Camden County. They lost two games this year. One to Grayson and one to Hoover Ala. Would you say because they lost those two games that they are not a perennial power?
Word on this blog have it that ackson plays a weaker schedule than Liberty County. That they (Jackson) has lost its past four second-round games (2003-06) and is seeking to make the quarterfinals or better for the third time in its history.
As far as out scoring their opponents, try more than 300 point to a little over 100 points when playing opponents. I did the math. But here is the thing. They have not played any ranked teams in Region 4-AAA. Liberty County plays in the Toughest Region in the state in Class AAA. And i beg to differ with when it comes to Liberty County Losses. You need to go check the score board again. The biggest lost came from State Ranked Baldwin County from the same region that Liberty County play in, and the score was 20-7 (I think) everything else was close.
With that being said, if you still think for one minute that Jackson is going to beat up on ole Liberty County, lets just wait and see. Yes you have a Division 1 prospect Neiron Ball ( who committed to the Florida Gators) but if you are depending on him to take Jackson to the promise land, then you are in for a rude awakening. He cant do it by himself.
All In all in this great sport of Georgia Football, ( where football is not everything but the only thing when it comes to real sports) this will be a very exciting game and I am sure that Red Devil Hill Stadium will be packed to capacity. This will indeed be a very hard fought game, and win or lose, gives these group of young men credit for a game well played……

Wow! Never would have thought little ole’ Hinesville in Liberty Co. would have generated so much provacative debate. SportsFan31313, I’m with you bro. My kids attend Bradwell Institute here and I’m a volunteer coach for the BI baseball team but I support both schools with equal passion. I have watched Liberty Co play twice this year and I love what Coach Warner is doing with those kids. That spread offense works and that defense is remarkable. Lets give props where props are due. I follow Lagrange High also(my wife is true blue) and I have been in the house for three of their state championships. Coach Pardue keeps a very good squad even when he is rebuilding. The stats speak for themselves as per the AJC(wins in this decade). Whether the Grangers came out flat or not is a moot point. This year Liberty Co is a very good football team and highly motivated. I can mos def see them in the Dome.

Greetings Granger By Marriage,
Where in the world have you been? I have looking for you all season long. I have on commenting on both teams but mainly Bradwell Institute. My Goodness what a pitiful dismal year for a Bradwell Institute football season. The Fans have a lot to say about that including myself. But now is not the time to cast a dark shadow over Liberty County who so much deserve recognition. So now it’s about Liberty County.
Coach Warner and his staff has definitely done a marvelous job, and he know to get relate to them to get them to respond to him and his play calling. I mentioned earlier that Liberty County play in the toughest Region in Class AAA. Their strength is a lot strong than Bradwell Institute and yet they have beaten some great teams this year. There is absolutely no doubt that they are playing with a lot of confidence. This will be a hard fought game tonight at Red Devil Hill Stadium but I believe that Liberty County could pull this game out too if they continue the path they are on.

if carver and peach play i think peach will win because carvers pass defense is very suspect and you are not going to run on peach all day just like waco think they are going to do tonight and its not going to happen

jamesP,
I was actually talking to the Waco fan but since you couldn’t hold back your sensitive self this comment is for you.First of all, yall can’t throw the ball!If running is all you can do,then you won’t get far.Secondly, those seven points that yall scored against us(peach county)were made by returning the opening kick.Where was the offense because incase you don’t know special teams is who scores on kick offs.I really think Baldwin have their hands full right now because yall are on the same side in the brackets as Carver and Gainesville. With that being said you should turn your attention away from me because peach county has already beaten yall in Milledgeville!

I hate [love] to say I told you so but…
“I told you so…”
Jackson Red Devils tame the Liberty Co. Kittens 36-9.
Now, next week’s game against the Eastside Eagles will be a spectacular showing! I’m sure there will be a debate about this soon, but honestly I had all my research done already assuming that Carrolton would win–whoops!

To ketaboon,
Does Peach County have to score any points to win against Carver? Don’t forget that Carver-Columbus has one of the best defenses in the state… 5 D-1 Commits alone on that side of the ball alone from Carver-Columbus… Instead of speculating, I think that I would rather see this played out on the field.
I posted on this site during week 3 when Carver had its slip up against Northside-WR, that the champion from AAA will come from middle GA, e.g., Carver-Columbus, Peach County, or Cairo. The way things are set up, Carver-Columbus will have to play Cairo for the second straight year in the semi’s, this will make the third straight year that they will have played… With the first year Carver-Columbus beating Cairo for the AAA championship. Cairo beat Carver in the semi’s last year to go on to win it all. But, that trophy will be returning to Columbus, if Carver is capable of doing what I know that they can do.

The next time you decide to hate…please learn how to spell P-E-A-C-H.This is a football blog not a blog to rate stadiums. However, since I don’t entertain haters please consider getting a life and a GED!
Anyway, congragulation to Cairo.I knew it was going to be a hard fought game and was anxious to see who would come out on top. Both of you(Cairo & Baldwin) have a nice defense and I don’t think Gainesville has played a great defense yet.I’m dying to see how they adjust to one.

Washington co fan,
I was at the game and I must say,WACO has a decent team but the coach is something else.Did you see when yall’s coach spiked the ball at our three yard line on fourth down with under a minute to go before halftime?I hope he plans on adding a passing game to his offense next year.Sorry it had to end that way for yall but I must travel Friday to support my Peach Co. Trojans against St. Pius.

I haven’t seen Cairo or Peach play. Usually they both have good teams, but if they play Carver their work will be cut out for them and I’m of the opinion that Carver’s defense and Offense will be a little too much for either of them. Carver is the hotbed for D-1 schools because of the quality of play. The head coach has done an excellent job but could stand a little help assistant wise and they’d better start paying him better or else it might be “IRENE GOODNIGHT.”

Cliff Rutledge,
The last comment you wrote seems to bother me a tad bit.Like you stated, you haven’t seen peach Co. play so how can you say,Carver will beat us.If you want to get technical;Shaw has always been the talk of your town(Columbus). Therefore, where do you get the concept of Carver being the hot bed for D-1 schools?Actually,Carver just got hot maybe five years ago.Northside Warner Robins handed yall your only lost of the season and even though it was only a scrimage Peach county beat them(It may have been a tie).Point is they didn’t beat us.Carver fans need to stop getting ahead of themselves because yall must beat Gainesville in order to have a shot at us.With that being said…we must win our next two in order to see yall.
