Records, rankings: Union Grove is 9-2, the No. 3 seed from Region 2-AAAAA and unranked; Northside is 10-1, the No. 1 seed from Region 1-AAAAA and ranked No. 7.
Last meeting: Northside won 24-7 in the 2008 first round.
Three things to know:
1. Northside rushed for 246 yards and held Chapel Hill to minus-14 yards rushing in a 35-14 victory last week, according to the Macon Telegraph.
2. Northside held Chapel Hill to negative yards rushing in a 35-14 victory last week.
3. Union Grove operated primarily from a wildcat formation in its 47-20 victory over Windsor Forest because quarterback Ty Moore was injured last week in practice.
Winner plays: Brookwood-Peachtree Ridge winner
Brookwood at Peachtree Ridge
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Lions Den, Suwanee
Records, rankings: Brookwood is 6-5, the No. 4 seed from Region 8-AAAAA and unranked; Peachtree Ridge is 9-2, the No. 2 seed from Region 7-AAAAA and unranked.

Three things to know:
1. Brookwood, the only No. 4 seed in Class AAAAA to advance in the first round, had to win its regular-season finale against arch-rival Parkview to make the playoffs and avert its first losing season since 1986.
2. Peachtree Ridge quarterback Nick Lombardo has battled injuries for the past month and didn’t start in the 14-7 victory over Kell but entered the game in the second quarter.
3. Peachtree Ridge’s Brad Roby starts at receiver and defensive back and has scored touchdowns rushing (one) and receiving (four) and returning kickoffs (one), punts (two), interceptions (one) and fumbles (one).

M.L. King at Newnan

1. M.L. King running back Mack Brown, who has committed to Florida, has been ranked the No. 1 prospect in the state by ESPN.
2. Newnan safety Alec Ogletree, who has committed to Georgia, has been ranked the No. 1 prospect in the state by Scout.com.
3. Newnan’s defense is rated No. 1 in AAAAA in scoring defense (4.5 points per game); M.L. King’s defense is No. 3 (6.4).

Three things to know:
1. Grayson’s Ean Pemberton, a preseason all-state running back, barely played in the second half in the 21-14 victory over Marietta last week because of a shoulder injury, and defensive end Joe Champaign, who has committed to Navy, played only a few plays returning from an injured knee.
2. Roswell’s starting quarterback quit the team last week, and backup J.P. Douglas completed 12 of 20 attempts for 201 yards and threw the winning touchdown pass in the 30-27 overtime victory over Collins Hill.
3. Grayson has four players on defense who have committed to Division I-A schools.

Woodstock at North Gwinnett
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Tom Robinson Memorial Stadium, Suwanee
Records, rankings: Woodstock is 10-1, the No. 2 seed from Region 5-AAAAA and ranked No. 10; North Gwinnett is 11-0, the No. 1 seed from Region 7-AAAAA and ranked No. 2.
Last meeting: This is the teams’ first meeting.
Three things to know:
1. Woodstock’s defense allows 9.4 points per game, the sixth-best total in Class AAAAA, and held Dacula to 35 yards rushing last week.
2. North Gwinnett got touchdowns on a kickoff return and a blocked punt in its victory against Centennial in the first round.
3. Woodstock had never won a playoff game before last season, but a victory against North Gwinnett would give the Wolverines back-to-back appearances in the quarterfinals.
Winner plays: Lowndes-Camden County winner
Lowndes at Camden County
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Chris Gilman Stadium, Kingsland
Records, rankings: Lowndes is 10-1, the No. 2 seed from Region 1-AAAAA and ranked No. 4; Camden County is 9-2, the No. 1 seed from Region 3-AAAAA and ranked No. 8.
Last meeting: Lowndes won 10-0 in the 2007 semifinals.
Three things to know:
1. The past two meetings between these teams were in the semifinals at the Georgia Dome, with Lowndes winning by shutout both times, 10-0 in 2007 and 30-0 in 2004.
2. This game features Class AAAAA’s top two offenses. Lowndes is averaging 44.8 points per game, while Camden County is at 43.5.
3. These teams have combined to win five of the past six Class AAAAA championships. Lowndes won titles in 2004, 2005 and 2007; Camden County was champion in 2003 and 2008.
Winner plays: Woodstock-North Gwinnett winner
South Gwinnett at Lassiter
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Frank Fillman Stadium, Marietta
Records, rankings: South Gwinnett is 10-1, the No. 2 seed from Region 8-AAAAA and unranked; Lassiter is 11-0, the No. 1 seed from Region 6-AAAAA and ranked No. 9.
Last meeting: South Gwinnett won 27-0 in 2003.
Three things to know:
1. Lassiter quarterback Hutson Mason broke the state record for passing yards in a season on Friday when his 445 yards against North Forsyth put him at 3,714 for the year.
2. South Gwinnett led Etowah 31-14 in the second half of their first-round game but had to hold on until the final seconds for a 31-28 victory.
3. Lassiter has never reached the state quarterfinals. South Gwinnett is seeking its fourth trip overall and its first since 2004.
Winner plays: Colquitt County-Stephenson winner
Colquitt County at Stephenson
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Hallford Stadium, Clarkston
Records, rankings: Colquitt County is 9-2, the No. 3 seed from Region 1-AAAAA and unranked; Stephenson is 11-0, the No. 1 seed from Region 2-AAAAA and ranked No. 5.
Last meeting: This is the teams’ first meeting.
Three things to know:
1. Colquitt County had its second-lowest scoring output of the year in its 10-0 victory against Westlake last week. The Packers had 105 yards in penalties, went 0-for-11 on third-down opportunities, and scored their only touchdown after recovering a fumble on the Westlake 15, according to the Moultrie Observer.
2. Stephenson has the second-best defense in Class AAAAA, allowing 5.4 points per game with four shutouts.
3. Stephenson’s Raymond Sanders, one of the top rushers in DeKalb County, had 172 yards in the first half and sat out the final two quarters in the Jaguars’ 44-0 victory against Bradwell Institute last week.

Union Grove at Northside, Warner Robins Union Grove won impressively against a weak

Lowndes at Camden County A Very tough battle between the two.

take south gwinnett to beat lassiter. this is a severely under rated team. also NG over woodstock. woodstock has a chance if it is a low scoring game though. P-ridge will struggle but barely beat brookwood. Grayson beats roswell by 2 touchdowns. newnan holds MLK to 10 points or under. stephenson will beat colquitt. Northside beats Union grove. and the lowndes/camden game is a toss up. those are my picks what are yalls?

Has any one watched Newman play ,what’s so good about them that they are being picked as a sure winner over MLK. Valdosta had them on the ropes until a bad snap gave Newman the ball at the one yard line . They are a good defensive team but I don’t see any thing special . I don’t think they have seen a defense as fast and hard hitting as MLK. It seems like every since mlk lost that one tv game to Stephenson , that King has gotten a bad name and now Stephenson is the best team in the world. That was one game on homecoming and Mlk had just lost their top play makin receiver and kick , punt returner. If Mack brown is healthy king will win this game . By the way every time he makes a big run a flag appears out of no where may be people in Ga. are mad at him because he picked Florida over Georgia.

I just don’t believe that Stephenson will beat Colquitt County. They have a great defense and their offense has a lot of different looks to throw off a defense. Although North Gwinette is a good team this year, Woodstock has been there before, and know what it is like and what it takes to get there. Take Woodstock.

I believe Mack Brown picked Florida over Georgia because of a better opportunity than what Georgia had to offer. Besides as a GA Dawg fan, the Fans are really upset with the way the Dawgs are playing this year and are calling for change in the coaching staff. The Team is unstable and who would want to play for a team like that?

sportsfan, that colquitt team is certainly good and stephenson has to prove that it can beat a good team. i just think that this is a game that they can win. woodstock has been there before… only last year was the first year they had ever won a playoff game. NG has made at least the quarterfinals the past 3 years so im pretty sure they are even more equipped in a “been there sense”. its at NG and the bulldogs last loss there was the preseason last year against byrnes south carolina a perrineal top 5 team in the nation. i expect it to be a good game but if north can get to 21 points then the woodstock offense just is not explosive enough to score a lot of points.

No I’m not being bias at the very least. I am only being realistic. (In my opinion). Stephenson is a good football otherwise they would not be ranked in the top 10 in Class AAAAA. I give Stephenson their respect. I also know that Stephenson has a great deal of speed. However; I know that Colquitt County has a great deal of speed on both sides of the ball to include size. Colquitt County will definitely stop the run on Stephenson. Unless Stephenson have trick plays other than their traditional offensive rush, Colquitt County will beat Stephenson.

BJ What game where you at that STEPHENSON got all the calls. Just because your coach quit coaching and your player started playing dirty football in the second half after STEPHENSON went in and regroup. Now you want to blame the official. It was your coach who didn’t feed TJ the ball. It was your defense that let a back run wild the second half. It was your team that didn’t adjust the second half. I remember the score being 7-7 at half time. So how did we get so home cooking. At home we don’t receive any love from the GHSA OFFICIAL. This past FRIDAY NIGHT we probably had 20 penalties to BRADWELL 4 at the most.

How’s it going? Colquitt won’t beat Stephenson bottom line, I would probably give the Packers a lil more credit since they play in the “baby SEC” but 10-0 against Westlake isn’t that impressive. Even with this “unstoppable” spread they run. I’ve been saying it all day, all of 1AAAAA will be done this friday. The only one I think won’t lose is Northside and theirs will come soon.

Stephenson has a good chance to BEAT any team in 5A Period. I give them the edge because their home. Lowndes or Northside doesn’t have the speed Stephenson has on defense. If all Colquitt could do against Westlakes decent defense they will not score unless its some big play.

The Jags 2009 football season starts this Friday ………Rather win or lose I think you Stephenson folks are in for a rude awakening this friday when the Pack come to town……I wouldn’t take the Pack lightly ,their no huddle offense will have any defense back on their hills all night ,if the homework isn;t done, Roberson may be the best offensive Back ive seen all year. The Pack defense isn’t shabby at all either…….Can’t call a winner , but other than SWD in week 1 ,this is really the Jags first real test of the season , I saw the MLK/Stephenson replay don’t even come back with that one…It’s gonna be a good ,close exciting contest…

I’m sitting here reading all this crap about Brookwood from people that haven’t seen a Bronco game this year. This team is made up of 6 to 9 of the best players to not even get D-1 recognition from any school this year. It’s sad when these scouts are looking but not understanding that when you recruit a Brookwood player, you are recruiting someone that will not only go to school but will attend classes, stay eligible and play 4 yrs, then graduate from that institution. These guy get educated before coming out of that school.. trust this statement…. Also Brookwood with this chip on their shoulders will beat Peachtree Ridge down and the only way they lose the game is by stupid coaching decisions or a mistake prone quarterback…

Woodstock has a really good team but not enough to beat North Gwinnett. The difference is going to be in the Red Zone. I don’t think the Woodstock defense can stop combination of a 6-4 210lb QB, 230lb running back and the 2 D1 lineman on offense. All the team is healthy now with as many as 6 starters out in mid season.Both teams have outstanding coaching and about even there. Both have great special teams. NG had a blocked punt and a kickoff return for 14 pts of the 52 last Friday. Woodstock needs to get at least 21
early points to win and they just don’t have that kind of firepower. If they had scored 35-40 on Dacula I would be more concerned. I look for the very good back-up QB Scottie Hooch to see playing time on Friday in the 4th quarter.

SportsFan 31313, it’s a nice safe pick to go with conventional wisdom and take grayson over roswell this friday. This game will likely be decided on game time adjustments by both coaching staffs; will roswell be able to establish any run at all against the grayson line? when grayson crowds the line, can roswell make them pay by getting the ball to thier outstanding receiving corps? If roswell can establish to any extent it’s running game which is strong, then grayson will be in trouble; or if grayson defensive players are not discilined in thier run-defense, roswell has 2 very good backs that can excel in this type of game. I believe that roswell’s run defense will hold its own agaist grayson. Roswell special teams will likely be the difference as I believe this game will come down to smart disciplined football in the 4th quarter. Roswell’s qb is athletic enough to avoid the grayson pass rush if need be and I believe that Roswell will have the advantage with it’s wr’s over the grayson db’s. I think that a Roswell special teams play may decide the game. I still say Roswell by 3 in a mild upset friday night. It’s going to be very nasty in the trenches as both teams lines appear to be very good.

Reality-Great call on Brookwod as I know some of the kids on the team and they are better than people think.
Sportsfan-Mack Brown isn’t all that as when they played the GA. recruit from SW Dekalb-Ken Malcome. He showed who the better back was in the state, but I wish good luck to each recruit wherever they go to school. The University of GA will be fine as they need some admitted tweaks with the Offensive and Defensive coordinators, but the program and recruits are solid.

Todd, I think your comments are right on about the Lowndes-Camden game but there’s one thing extra to note. Camden has been stacking up that kind of yardage against Region 3 opponents while Lowndes has made those gains against Region 1 teams, for the most part, including outgaining Northside on the ground. I only wish Warner Robins had gotten into the mix. That would really make things interesting. I’d love to see a Warner Robins-Camden matchup.

And F.Y.I vike69, Warner Robins High schhool has not been “in the mix ” in a decade or so. They are going to have to get a coach that is willing to get caught up with times and implement some type of spread O and get rid of the wing T. They have athletes but they are not Lowndes, they do not have 3500 students or the personal to get away with running a wing T. Or a greg reid ……….wink wink.

Yes I did say that Bradwell Institute plays good against metro teams. I didn’t say that Bradwell Institute beat every Metro Team when they play against them. In Fact, to prove my point, I also listed great teams in the State that Bradwell Institute have beaten over the years.
In addition, True Blue, I am a Region 3-AAAAA Bradwell Institute Fan, and a Region 3-AAA Liberty County Fan. I make no excuses for their losses and I make no excuse for their winnings. They either win or they lose. No matter what, I am still a fan. Secondly, when they are not in the playoff contention, I pull for Region 3, and all South Georgia teams. But if you could “READ” you have seen that.

I understand where you are coming from. I am making the prediction because I have seen Stephenson play, and how they manhandled an injured Bradwell Institute (But no excuses) Stephenson has some fast running backs but what will hurt them very much will be penalties. They seem to make a lot of penalties. What offset them is is that they were a better team than Bradwell Institute. but I will Promise you that this game this week will be absolutely nothing like last week. I say again, Colquitt County has speed on both sides of the ball, and their defense is great. Again, I see that Stephenson is a good football team otherwise they would not have been ranked in the top ten. But I am here to tell you, that Colquitt County will pull this one out as a result of their great defense. Get it TRUE BLUE?

RANDOLPH CLAY 1A school record 2-8, THOMASVILLE 2AA school record 8-3 still in the playoff just like WARE COUNTY 2AAAA, WAYNE COUNTY 2AAAA school record 3-7 thats your non region shedule. How does that look a 5A school from the big SEC region of high school football playing a 1A school and 2A school in football. Then you play a weak 4A school in WAYNE COUNTY. Hey COLQUITT didn’t ROSWELL beat TIFT COUNTY 42-7 this year.

You know what? You are absolutely right and I agree with you. I make no excuses as this is a part of what Georgia Football is all about. Bradwell Institute traveled to Clarkston and got their butts kicked up, and down the football field. They I wont say that they were out matched because Bradwell Institute had big players and they have speed. But I will say that Bradwell Institute has gotten out played, out smarted, and out coached (which is an under statement) They came their and they showed the Fans of Liberty County/Bradwell Institute/ Hinesville that they had absolutely no heart, and for that I am embarrassed too. I have a lot to say, but i will keep it in house along with the other Fans. All I will say is like the ole song goes, “People Get Ready, Cause The Train Is Coming”. Again, congrats goes out to a very well played performance by the Stephenson Jaguars.

TRUE BLUE, I have not seen Stephenson play, but I do know their schedule was much weaker than the Packer’s schedule. All region 1AAAAA teams left in the state playoffs were ranked nationally at one time. The Packers have not gotten respect from the media or the state rankings all year. I can tell you this, and I believe that the posters from Lowndes and NSWR will agree, that Colquitt could have beaten both teams, and most likely neither would want to face the Packers again. I respect your opinion and I respect the 11-0 record, but your disrespect for Colquitt is fairly shallow. I would make sure before I start making bold statements about what will happen in this game, that you do your homework. Colquitt is quick on both sides of the ball and very physical. This defense will knock your running backs senseless. So let the game be played on the field. I believe the Packers will send Stephenson packing.

BLACK and GOLD 24, We at STEPHENSON knows that COLQUITT COUNTY has a nice football team and that it going to be hell in the cell for 48 minutes. From day one STEPHENSON was on the blog with MLK as the 2 OVERRATED FOOTBALL TEAM IN GEORGIA. Hell people were dogging our coaches , players , band , dancing girls , and school out. So we couldn’t get mad , we just said that we take and carry it out on the field 1 game at a time. We here at STEPHENSON are looking forward to FRIDAY playing against a team from region 1AAAAA that was rank at one time 68 in the nation by RIVALS before they lost to NSWR.

If that’s what Colquitt did to your defense and the rest of 1AAAAA how do you figure they’ll have the defenses up here on their heels. They didn’t do it last week at Westlake whose defense is nowhere near the speed and physicality of Stephenson. Just admit to the fact that you’re biased toward 1AAAAA, that’s why yall thought Valdosta was going to go into Newnan and shock the world. A good game actually but everything turned out just the way I figured, defense too strong for the Cats.

JagFan, thanks for the shout out. I will be checking your game from NSWR Friday night. Although I have not seen Colquitt play, I know they have a fine football team but what I do know is Stephenson is SUPER athletic, a ton of speed, hard hitters,a defense that swarms the ball and running backs who refuse to go down. Something else that I know is that Georgia as a whole has the best football in the World!

I will be real honest, outside of the shotgun/ zone block scheme we use for the most part, we are not that good on offense. We are young and not that good in the pass. BUT WE GET AFTER THAT TAIL!

We look forward to a great contest this Friday in Grayson. Just a couple of thoughts on your analysis:
It appears the Hornets may be the toughest matchup Grayson has faced this year. Not the best team – that would be Camden. Fortnuately for us, Camden didn’t have a prolific passing attack like Roswell. You certainly have the advantage there, and you may even have the edge on special teams. But let’s be factual about a couple of things.
First, Grayson’s “D” doesn’t “crowd the line” as you suggest. We play a very disciplined, well coached, no-frills brand of defense that has given up a total of 298 yards rushing all year (27 yards per game). That includes teams like Camden, Warner Robins, South Gwinnett, Brookwood, etc. Not saying you can’t run, just saying you are not bringing anything new to the table.
I watched film on Roswell for two hours last night, and I can assure you the Hornets are not a better running team than those mentioned, and are probably equal to South in the passing game. South Gwinnett has as good and just as many good receivers as the Hornets. I can’t imagine facing a better defense than Camden or Warner Robins, but your D does look scrappy. If we can’t run, we’ll just utilize the “Spread” playbook we downloaded this week when all the Roswell fans inferred we were doomed.
In all, you are correct – it looks like the trenches will be a battle, and I’m not sure our poor fellas can keep up with you guys…but I will promise, they’ll come ready to play and they’ll expect your best.

grayson shouldnt have a problem on defense at all. their offense might sputter a bit but i think they will score on big plays. the d-line for grayson is just too big for roswells o-line. roswell doesnt score more than 14 in this one. grayson will have to get ready for that newnan team next week.

God almighty I do so hope that some of you hear are not representative of your school’s alum as to education!!! If so, I am sure the adminstration and so called teachers that may read this blog are shamed to no end! Hint hint TRUE BLUE….you are not the only one….simply the worst!
As to schedule, it is much more difficult for 5A schools in south Ga. to play other 5A schoold without traveling 150 to 200 miles one way!
Colquitt may or may not beat Stephenson…they are certainly capable of doing so…but REST ASSURED Stephenson will know that have played a very tought opponent after the game…one they will not want to play again anytime soon…win or lose!

Two trips in a row to ATL is the difference. Colquitt put 10 on the board against Westlake. Where is this offense everyone is talking about? Westlake is similar to Stephenson in the type of athlete they have on defense, I just think Stephenson has more. Penalties have been a hinderance for the Jags, but I think they put it all together this Friday. Stephenson 21 Colquitt Co. 7. Throw all that crap about regions out now, its all about who comes out to play ball when the lights come on. Ask McEachern. Also don’t be so quick on that Newnan- Grayson matchup. MLK is as good as Newnan is on defense, and playing at Newnan won’t intimidate them.

The biggest difference between Newnan-MLK Newnan can run and throw; MLK is much more of a run team… their team is definitely good… and excellent on Defense but the LB’s from Newnan too good in this one and if you get by them #39 well, let’s just hope the LB’s get there first…Newnan by a TD…

Stephenson will win “Friday Night Lights”. There defense is Fast, I mean really Fast. They have speed off the edge lead by Malcholm Strong and Myles Ashmon. Both sitting on D1 offers. Up front you have Four Star DT Michael Thornton who is unstoppable, beats up the double teams every friday night. The backers have to be the best corps linebacker in the state. Lead by Miami commit, Tyrone Cornelius. This kid can flat out fly. He runs a real-time 4.4. The other linebackers are Jabari Johnson who is mean and heading to Kentucky and last but not least, Franchot West the teams leading tackler, also will mul;tiple D1 offers. The last group of players are the DBs, lead by Vanderbilt bound Kenneth Ladler and East Carolina Bound Chris Sharp. The Jaguars are loaded with talent in all positions. There defense cannot be stop from doing what they do best, and that is beat you to the punch. They will not let you get in your groove. I purposely did not say anything about the opffense. They WILL DO THERE THING, Stephenson will blank the Packers 20 – 0

Anyway possible for both Lowndes and Camden County to lose? What if we send them both home for the year? Camden because they play in a puesdo-AAAAA region and unfairly get a #1 seed each year and Lowndes County for getting their players out on work-release to play on Friday nights. My prediction is Lowndes again this year will start arguing among themselves and lose to AAA representative Camden County. PS Always put an * next to Camden’s won-loss record.

We all know that Stephenson really isnt known as a well coached team, just loaded with athletes.
