Alot has been said about junior Tyler Hunter of Lowdnes High School without any reference to truth. The truth of the matter is Hunter had swelling that has now gone down. His football career is not over and he will be 100% going into his senior year. It seems as if people were hoping for the worse but no one has control but God. I think with him going through this situation you will see a better player who works harder than ever. So to all you hater, Hunter is back!!!15lowdnes High

Ok all you doubters CAMDEN took care of business on friday night,we're looking foward to playing for the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP again as far as grayson and hoover go we had several starters out do to disciplinary reasons. What would be really funny is if CAMDEN and NORTHSIDE end up playing for the state championship which in all reality CAMDEN will be there regardless.

Decatur 4 Life - you have to admit it though...5 of the last 6 championships were from these 2 teams. To get to the dome someone has to go thru one of these two every year. Lets hope for a great, safe, and exciting game tonight.

That's just because both of you guys think this is the state championship. Contrary to popular belief it's not, it's only a second round matchup. Neither will see the dome in my opinion

AVikingFan

"Since when does traveling 220 miles to the Georgia Dome to play a game not count as “ON THE ROAD”. "

That's called a neutral site, both teams are on the road . A neutral site can't be considered a road game

I hope all the other bloggers notice the deep respect that Camden and Lowndes have for each other. No trashing of each others schools, players, or coaches. Pulling for each other if the other doesnt make it. This is what high school sports is supposed to be about, great times and great commarodity.

White Trash - Good luck to you guys. If you beat us, I hope you win State. Let's keep the title in South Georgia! The game will be a chess match with two very good coaches. I look for a low scoring game. 14-10 or 21-14 like in 03. I'll be there around 4:30.

Contrary to Georgia High School Daily's Newsletter today, Lowndes has won more than "ONE" playoff game on THE ROAD this decade. Since when does traveling 220 miles to the Georgia Dome to play a game not count as "ON THE ROAD". Explain that to our players, coaches, band, cheerleaders and fans, and tax payers who bought the diesil fuel and paid the expenses. Todd, sometimes you remind me of EagleNationRising who often spins statistics to make a point.

Reference J B, #56 - According to what was reported to the Lowndes Toucndown Club Monday night, and repeated by his grandfather's brother Wednesday, JB ran some Monday in street clothes but was still having headaches. Dr. says he must go 48 hours with no headaches before he can play. So he is "doubtful" for Friday. TH #15 can not play I've been told.

YO - Great analysis of the ATLANTA AREA ADVANTAGE in AAAAA football.

BTW, I've done a little research of my own. Lowndes has played Camden County 12 times, beginning in 1986, including 4 times in the playoffs. The record is 6 and 6. Lowndes has won 3 playoff games 1998, 2004, and 2007. Camden won one playoff game, 2003. Lowndes has scored 217 points and Camden has 135 points. In playoff games, Lowndes has 69 points and Camden has 35. Lowndes has shut out Camden twice in the playoffs.

What does all this mean? LOWNDES IS NOT AFRAID OF THE BLUE CATS. IS THERE ANOTHER SCHOOL IN GEORGIA WHO HAS PLAYED CAMDEN 2 TIMES OR MORE SINCE 1986 THAT CAN SAY THEY HAVE A BETTER RECORD AGAINST THEM?

Lowndes Fans- Any word on Tyler Hunter or Jordan Black? I had heard that Hunter's football career didn't look so good, but hadn't heard anything since. Black should be back this week, right? Gook luck Vikings!

Start of the playoffs the Atlanta area teams outnumbered the S. Ga. teams 24 – 8. After the first round of the playoffs 50% of the S. Ga. teams move on and 50% of the Atlanta area teams move on. This is taking into consideration as many have pointed out that some of the S. Ga. teams belong in much lower classifications. Actually, according to the new data only 3 of the original playoff bound S. Ga. schools qualified as AAAAA. 5 did not. Unfortunately, of the 4 remaining S. Ga. teams 1 will be eliminated for sure this week because two of the traditional power house S. Ga. teams play each other. Now “that” seems hardly fair and is unfortunate, but it happens to the benefit of the Atlanta area schools every year.
Any way, to begin the playoffs the Atlanta area teams outnumber the S.GA. teams 3-1. 4 or 5 to 1 might be more equal odds for the Atlanta area teams (fofl) and we will see who is left standing when there is only 1 team left.

Remember Atlanta you started out as you do every year with a 3-1 advantage.

So lets see, Atlanta gets the most teams in the playoffs with a 3-1 advantage and they get the much greater advantage of less travel compared to S.Ga. teams.

Yet only 1 state championship for the Atlanta area schools since 2002.
Come on Atlanta area schools, what else do we have to give up down here to give you guys a chance? Do we just all need to go down to AAAA?
Think you could win a state championship then? Maybe?

All of you Vikings looking for directions, here it is. Take Hwy 84 to Waycross. Take US1 to Folkston. Turn left going towards Charlton county High school. You will know when to turn left when you see the big self bagging Ice machine on the left. Go thru the 4-way stop and turn left at the next stop sign. this is Hwy 40. You can go all the way into Kingsland to I-95 or you can turn left on Colerain Road and follow it all the way over 95 and to the school. I was just on that road Sunday and there was no construction until you got past the High school. If you are planning on eating before you go to the game, then I suggest you go into kingsland. Most of the eatin places are located near I-95. There are no eatin places on the high school exit. CYA there!! Go Cats!!

DollaDP I was there for both games and was proud of our (sophomore laiden) Vikings for hanging close to you guys that year. In both games.
Those same sophomores went on the win state the next 2 years as I was confidant they would after showing what they were capable of against Camden in both of those games in 2003.

grayson was lucky last year. the following round they lost to peachtree witch lowndes easily handled 22-7 earlier in the year. Lowndes was the best team in the state last year, but just bc you are the best team does not mean you cant be beat. If the vikings bring their A game fri when they play camden, the cats will go down!!!

Hornet Dave: Not sure your assessment of the 2006 semifinals -- two 'lower seeded' teams winning -- is giving due credit to Peachtree Ridge and Roswell. Peachtree Ridge was 10-3 and Warner Robins was 9-4. A toss-up game. Roswell was a No. 2 seed, but only because of unusual tiebreaker method in 6-AAAAA. Roswell was the best team in 6-AAAAA that year. Tift and Roswell entered that game 12-1. Those games were played on a Saturday. No evidence that that Roswell or P'Ridge had an adantage.

The GHSA's position on the bracket is that 'no one has complained until now, and there's nothing that can be done about it now, so let's focus on the games.' As far as the first two rounds, the GHSA won't change that because travel trumps anything else there. Things will not change only if school officials protest and make a proposal. Fans and the media will have no impact, IMO.

A VikingFan, I'm not completely sure but they were doing construction on Colerain Rd so I'm suggesting staying on HWY 40 and take I-95 north until you get to exit six (next exit after you get on 95). Another route that takes you through housing is stay on hwy 40 until you reach Applebees, turn left at Applebees and go to the second stopsign, turn right and stay on that road and it will take you right to the HS. Safe travels and good luck, of course I'm pulling for our WildCats and if we can't win it all I'd rather you all did. Do anyone know if the game will be on the internet? I'm out here in Hawaii now and will have to depend on telephone calls and blogs to keep up.lol

Advisor, Yes We Can...you ought to join Obama next next for president..lol

I think the biggest threat that Stephenson poses for Colquitt is the running back Sanders. As for hitting, that is all that they do down there in South Georgia. You will see how tough they play football down in south georgia. I do not know if you have been to football games down in south georgia but it is quite different down there..it is a very tough style of football. I do not think Stephenson will out tough those country boys from Colquitt County. Good Luck to Stephenson though.

GO WILDCATS, I will be there tailgating at 12 noon with my fellow WILDCAT FANS. And I'm one who thinks this will be a high scoring game. Both offenses are just to good. Both have game breakers, at the running back position, actually both teams have 2 great runners. Both teams have good recievers and Camden has one really good one. Lowndes does throw the ball more. But Camden is capable of throwing it. One thing is for sure the winner will be 5 AAAAA STATE CHAMPS. Good luck Lowndes, and have a safe trip and God Bless. There is a mutal respect for Lowndes, One guy in the stands at a game earlier this year made a comment to me. He said if we(meaning Camden)doesn't win the Championship, he would prefer Lowndes and I agree. We will just rotate it back and forth between the two every year. May the best team Win. Get there early and get your seats because the WILDCAT DEN will be packed. But i must admitt the last 2 games between the two played at the DEN was a low scoring affair.

Williambrado, that way may be ok going but you don't want to come back that way - too many deer. It's 4 lanes from Waycross to Folkston so I think that's the better choice. I've done it both ways. Some of my Lake Park friends are going I-75 to I-10 to I-295 to I-95 to Colerain Road exit near the stadium.

When driving from Folkston on Hwy 40 toward Camden County High School, is it best to veer off to the left onto Colerain Road or stay on Hwy 40 to I-95? I see where Colerain becomes Laurel Parkway, and then MLK and the Colerain again according to the map at the Camden County High School website, and the high school is located on this road.
I would appreciate any and all help. Thanks!

I filled out my bracket the second time (the GHSA bracket error) and the only loss like you was the Brookwood.McEachern game but of course that jacked me up on that second round because I had them moving on to the third round to face NSWR..... so being down 1 this week already has me looking a little harder........ I disagree with your Woodstock and Colquitt pick I am assuming the Camden-Lowndes game has your heart in one direction and your head in another... Good luck this week

Greetings AViking Fan,

How are you my friend. Hopefully I will be at Red Devil Hill to see this Jackson vs Liberty County. Since Liberty County had been under the radar, and had beaten a great LaGrange football team, they stunned the entire Western Part of Georgia. Now in AAA they eyes are now on those Liberty County Panthers. This will be a great game and fight to the finish. Liberty County will be bringing a lot of fans in support of the Panthers this week.

callitlikeittis we at Stephenson are not sensitive about JAG football ...However we are quite PASSIONATE about our Coaches,Kids, and Parents that make up Jaguar Football .Just because this team uses a pro set means nothing because it all boils down to match-ups .Can our front four handle(control)thier offensive line...(YES)Can our Backers clean up the left-over fall out (YES)...Can our corners match-up with thier Receivers (no DOUBT)...lastly can we contain the top (YES) we have two of the best safeties in AAAAA ...Not only will Stephenson control the football field ... we WILL dictate what CC's offense will do.Trying to throw from the shotgun won't work ...direct snaps won't work ... spread won't work...CC had better be ready to be hit and hit often ...there are 11 guys on this defense that love to hit and hit and hit ...We will score in a varity of ways but mostley by trucking ...what I'm trying to say is CC will just be hurring up to be hit and hit again ...our O scores often so our defense is use to playing is CC use to being hit? start STRONG stay STRONG finish FAST ... go Jaguars....,,,,,,,

Sportsfan31313 You were on your game in your picks last week 15-1 (10-0 Mceachern lost to 5-5 Brookwood) Now the games get tougher what two games would you say are in the "I do not know category"?

Vikings on a Mission - The Camden principal said their fans start tailgating by 8 am, and the stadium gates will open at 5:30 pm. All of our seats are general admission. The chartered busses will get there about 5:15 to 5:30. We plan to be at the gate at 5:30 when it opens, hopefully ahead of the busses, even if it means buying supper at the concession stands. Some Lowndes folks are leaving Valdosta at noon and will tailgate. I'm sure you are welcome to join them. However the Touchdown Club is not feeding the Lowndes fans like we have done in the past on some road trips. If we go to Atlanta next week I believe we will cook and feed the fans, like we did at Parkview in 04, Harrison in 06, and Stephenson in 99, and some other long road trips.

Randy prosen - while driving to Camden County High School, I plan to drive to Folkston from waycross and turn left at the 1st sign I see that says Hwy 40. I undestand this goes slightly around Folkston and runs into the real Hwy 40 on the east side of town. I guess the 1st one is like a truck route. Then I was told to turn left just past a Baptist Church onto Colerain Road which goes thru Kingsland and continues past I-95 and is the actual road the stadium is on. Is this Colerain Road the best route or should we just take Hwy 40 to I-95 then go up one exit?

I'd appreciate your help (or anyone's). Thanks

Getting soooo excited about Friday! Win, lose, or overtime, this will be one for the ages! Mutual respect between these two teams promises a fight to the finish. Gotta love high school football Friday nights. You Camden tailgaters gonna have dinner ready for us by 6:00?

Jackson will definitely have their hands full with Liberty Co. Friday night. As I see it, it is a toss up. But the time is now for Jackson to "light it up" in the playoffs and beat a good team by a good margin. Come on Red Devils, this is your year and opportunity to make a statement in the playoffs!

Decatur 4 life - Colquitt can esasily score 21 or more on Stephenson. What ENR calls a "dancing band" won't help the Jags this week. Next week Stphenson and UG can get together and play basketball. (I just hope Camden can join'em!) Colquitt has a very fast and strong running back and their QB can chunk it and run it! They have one really great receiver and some "good" ones. Their interior linemen are good on both sides of the ball. I look for a 1-5A sweep this week. Goooo Northside, Lowndes & Colquitt!

Decatur 4 Life I've seen the lowndes defense in 11 games, Northside's once and Colquitt's once. I would say Northside has the best, followed by Lowndes, then Warner Robins, then Colquitt, insofar as defense is concerned.

SportsFan31313

They are known for great defense but that's what was said about Valdosta last week. It was stated over and over that Newnan hadn't seen a defense like Valdosta's all year and although it took a while they did what they wanted in the second half. If it wasn't for the long kickoff return they would've been run out of Newnan. A good defense is a
good defense no matter what region you play in bottom line, are you saying Colquitt's defense is better than Lowdnes and NSWR?

yo,

I agree with you. I will go on to say that this will be a fight to the finish. I give it a low scoring game. As much as I like both teams, I believe Lowndes may pull this one out this year. Who ever wins this game, will win the Class AAAAA State Title.

Thanks Mr. Holcomb for continuing to write about Garrison Smith at Frederick Douglass High School. Garrison is an awesome football player and an even greater person. He loves the game of football and continued to rally alongside his teammates even though they did not have such a winning season. I was at the game (Douglass vs. Luella (at Luella) where Garrison was penalized and eventually ejected from the game which led to the suspension. Garrison should not have been penalized because those guys from Luella had been harrassing/taunting and playing nasty football all night. They did not come to play football. The referees have done this Douglass for the last two (2) years that Douglass have traveled to Luella. My son who is a senior and a "DAMN" good football football player on Douglass' team made a tackle on one of Luella's football players during the opening play of the game and the head ref made the comment "coach he did not have to hit him that hard. I bet he didn't do MLK like that. I don't support unsportmanslike conduct by no mean, but as a football player you can only take so much of other players getting away with unsportsmanlike conduct. It's just sometimes bring out the beast. May the "best" team win!!!

sports fan,

That's what I am trying to tell the Jag Fans. Colquitt County has one of the best defense I have seen this year. Why? They are from region 1-AAAAA who are know for great defenses. Stephenson wont score 20 points.

P-ridge gets out coached by brookwood and then there gonna have to come to the mac and play us (NSWR). Lowndes just flat out whips camden unless the officials serve up some home cooking. We all know stephenson isnt coached up but I dont know how much better propst is since he does not have his same O coordinator he did at hoover. ( I wish you all could have seen how he acted against us - NSWR)........................showed his tail! I would like to know though, has anyone seen NSWR's defense and stephenson defense play this year. And which one is better?

We all know stephenson isnt coached up but I dont know how much better propst is since he does not have his same O coordinator he did at hoover. ( I wish you all could have seen how he acted against us – NSWR)……………………showed his tail! I would like to know though, has anyone seen NSWR’s defense and stephenson defense play this year. And which one is better?

Darry High School Football Fan

I hear you but it all starts somewhere, heck Buck already has a championship in the highest class. Was he coaching then? As far as Stephenson goes what did Lowdnes win before 99. We could've had the same discussion about them 10 years ago that we're having about Stephenson now, only exception is before Lowdnes started winning titles they were just the other school in Valdosta. Stephenson has always been winning but just can't get over their playoff blues, my thing is they have to snap out of it at some point. If it doesn't happen then it maybe the coach. Lay off Buck though, he may have gotten a little old fashioned but he deserves repesct for what he's done at SWD.

SouthGa Rules I'm sure it also helps Warner Robins, Kingsland, and the Atlanta area when 4,000 to 7,000 Lowndes fans go to their town and spend the night. At the dome semis we frequently had crowds over $10,000 most of whom spent the night. At Parkview in 2004 we had a larger crowd at the game than they did, as told in the AJC and Gwinnett newspapers.

And further, I’ll ask the GHSA about it this week and report back.

Todd have you nhad a chance to do this? I realize it's probably a back burner, off season kinda thing. But I am interested in what they tell you.

I have to agree (grudgingly, lol) with Yo. No way anyone hangs more than 15-20 on Lowndes in a close game. Their defense is too solid for that.
As for my predictions:
Lowndes over Camden
Newnan over MLK
Stephenson over Colquit Co.
Peach Co. over WACO
Cairo over Baldwin
Hiram over Rockdale Co. (bias pick)
Griffin over Ware Co
SWD over Clarke Central
Sandy Creek over Tucker
Buford over Jefferson
Grayson over Roswell
Lassiter over S. Gwinnett ( would love to see that game, whoever has the ball last should win 61 -60)

HomeFieldAdvantage: Not only is it a big revenue producer for the high schools, but the towns also benefit with out of town guests coming in to eat at restaurants & to a lesser extent stay at motels (especially with a metro Atlanta school traveling to Valdosta or Camden).

Neutral sites do not "level the playing field." I saw first-hand in 2006 what happened to Tift County and Warner Robins when forced to play lower-seeded Metro Atlanta teams in the Georgia Dome. If you want to play at a geographically neutral site, how would that work? Would Lowndes play Camden County at Atkinson County?

HomeFieldAdvantage - last year I was thinking exactly as you are now. However, I've since learned that the States of Ohio and Texas play their playoffs in neutral sites. So, in spite of all the things you've said, and what I said before myself, other States figured out how to do it. Neutral sites would "level the playing field."

After reading these blogs, it is obvious that most people believe that the state champ will probably be Lowndes. I have to agree with one of the comments about the metro teams getting no respect and South Ga feels like they rule high school football, well time will tell who can hang in the end. May the best team win, north, south or middle Ga. Good luck Camden.

COMMON SENSE - Quit trying to beat a dead horse. It makes no "common sense" to stage playoff football games at neutral sites. The team that is higher seeded deserves to host a lower seeded team.

Have you ever thought about the preparation it takes to host a playoff game involving 10,000 to 15,000 fans? There are concession stands to hire people to staff. Janitorial people to clean up. Restrooms must have paper etc. Where would the players dress before the games and where would they go at halftime? High schools are not going to open up their field houses to two other teams. How about the training rooms? The suanas and trasining tables. Who is going to clean them after the game? High schools would have to move out everything from their own locker rooms etc. And who cleans up the next day from all the trash left in the stadium and in the parking lots? Who pays the light bill? Who provides food and drinks for the referes? Who sells programs?

Neutral playoff sites for football? This ain't gonna happen. Hosting playoff games is a huge income producer for highschools and they need that revenue. Get on a bandwagon about an issue that makes sense. If your blog handle means you have real commen sense, you'll understand what I'm trying to tell you.

Stephenson will win if they score 20 points or more .MLK has good chance of beating Newnan with a healthy Mack Brown. Both of these teams are a victim of the region they play in, when u dont play teams that are a threat to beat you in the regular season it stunts your coaching in game time situations. When ever you get two good teams going against each other its who ever makes the adjustments and has a back up plan in case the initial game plan isnt working. Coaches also must depend on what their assistant coaches are telling them because you can only see so much at field level.Im a Mlk fan and I hope that they do well ,my main wish for the playoffs is that none of these kids get a serious injury during the games.Go Lions

i think people are underestimating us cause we lost two close games and we dont have the talent we had last year. i think we will beat Lowndes cause the Five times coach Herron coached against Lowndes we won 2 games at home and 1 game at Lowndes. so we are undefeated against Lowndes at home and at there place.

wildcat fan just one observation for you and every one else who crazily sees Lowndes giving up 24, 28, 34, etc points. It doesn't happen. Period! If you should beat Lowndes it will be because your defense held Lowndes down, but not because you scored more than 17 points. You will not. The only way a team gets more than 17 points is if Lowndes already has 50. Can Lowndes be beat? possibly but not by the other team scoring a lot of points. Will not happen.
