I can’t remember a better second round in the highest classification.
Lowndes-Camden County goes without saying. Playing a tougher schedule week in, week out, will help Lowndes, so I’m picking the Vikes on the road. I know Camden beat Northside last season in the same second round, but that was when Camden was the better team. This year, Lowndes is the better team.
Other amazin’ games in AAAAA –
MLK vs. Newnan (Mack Brown vs. Alec Ogletree)
Woodstock at North Gwinnett (I like both these teams a long and think either could’ve made the semis with another draw)
Roswell at Grayson (Is Pemberton hurt? How is Champaign? Good upset pick game here. Cool story about the backup QB at Roswell throwing the winning TD pass in OT. Who will cover Chris Boyd?)
South Gwinnett at Lassiter (Can anybody stop Hutson Mason?)
Colquitt County at Stephenson (Good news for Jags is that they get to see the spread offense before having to face Lassiter. Bad news is that they might not live to see next week. As Ron Gartrell said to me today, “We have so much trouble with South Georgia teams.’’)
Other stuff …
Team of the week: Liberty County. I really love teams that turn things around. Best win in program history against LaGrange last week. … I would’ve given the same kudos to Chattooga, btw.
Now, let’s discuss Carver of Columbus. OK, you beat Burke County 28-21. Burke is the best No. 4 team in the state, but still. Is this what a state-championship team would do to Burke? Is it too late to jump on the Gainesville bandwagon? I’m only now starting to realize how good Gainesville’s defense is. Carver didn’t want me on their bandwagon in the first place, but I’m curious to see how those two teams do this week.
In AAAA, it’s two teams – Griffin, SWD.
In AAA, it’s two – Carver, Gainesville.
In AA, it’s three – Fitz, Calhoun, Buford.
In A, it’s two – Wesleyan, Twiggs.

Hornet Dave: Not sure your assessment of the 2006 semifinals — two ‘lower seeded’ teams winning — is giving due credit to Peachtree Ridge and Roswell. Peachtree Ridge was 10-3 and Warner Robins was 9-4. A toss-up game. Roswell was a No. 2 seed, but only because of unusual tiebreaker method in 6-AAAAA. Roswell was the best team in 6-AAAAA that year. Tift and Roswell entered that game 12-1. Those games were played on a Saturday. No evidence that that Roswell or P’Ridge had an adantage.

Good luck to the Camden Wildcats. I hope we prevail on Friday. But if we lose, then I hope that Lowndes take state. Also, good luck to Charlton County.

grayson was lucky last year. the following round they lost to peachtree witch lowndes easily handled 22-7 earlier in the year. Lowndes was the best team in the state last year, but just bc you are the best team does not mean you cant be beat. If the vikings bring their A game fri when they play camden, the cats will go down!!!

DollaDP I was there for both games and was proud of our (sophomore laiden) Vikings for hanging close to you guys that year. In both games.
Those same sophomores went on the win state the next 2 years as I was confidant they would after showing what they were capable of against Camden in both of those games in 2003.

All of you Vikings looking for directions, here it is. Take Hwy 84 to Waycross. Take US1 to Folkston. Turn left going towards Charlton county High school. You will know when to turn left when you see the big self bagging Ice machine on the left. Go thru the 4-way stop and turn left at the next stop sign. this is Hwy 40. You can go all the way into Kingsland to I-95 or you can turn left on Colerain Road and follow it all the way over 95 and to the school. I was just on that road Sunday and there was no construction until you got past the High school. If you are planning on eating before you go to the game, then I suggest you go into kingsland. Most of the eatin places are located near I-95. There are no eatin places on the high school exit. CYA there!! Go Cats!!

Start of the playoffs the Atlanta area teams outnumbered the S. Ga. teams 24 – 8. After the first round of the playoffs 50% of the S. Ga. teams move on and 50% of the Atlanta area teams move on. This is taking into consideration as many have pointed out that some of the S. Ga. teams belong in much lower classifications. Actually, according to the new data only 3 of the original playoff bound S. Ga. schools qualified as AAAAA. 5 did not. Unfortunately, of the 4 remaining S. Ga. teams 1 will be eliminated for sure this week because two of the traditional power house S. Ga. teams play each other. Now “that” seems hardly fair and is unfortunate, but it happens to the benefit of the Atlanta area schools every year.
Any way, to begin the playoffs the Atlanta area teams outnumber the S.GA. teams 3-1. 4 or 5 to 1 might be more equal odds for the Atlanta area teams (fofl) and we will see who is left standing when there is only 1 team left.
Remember Atlanta you started out as you do every year with a 3-1 advantage.
So lets see, Atlanta gets the most teams in the playoffs with a 3-1 advantage and they get the much greater advantage of less travel compared to S.Ga. teams.
Yet only 1 state championship for the Atlanta area schools since 2002.
Come on Atlanta area schools, what else do we have to give up down here to give you guys a chance? Do we just all need to go down to AAAA?
Think you could win a state championship then? Maybe?

Lowndes Fans- Any word on Tyler Hunter or Jordan Black? I had heard that Hunter’s football career didn’t look so good, but hadn’t heard anything since. Black should be back this week, right? Gook luck Vikings!

Reference J B, #56 – According to what was reported to the Lowndes Toucndown Club Monday night, and repeated by his grandfather’s brother Wednesday, JB ran some Monday in street clothes but was still having headaches. Dr. says he must go 48 hours with no headaches before he can play. So he is “doubtful” for Friday. TH #15 can not play I’ve been told.
YO – Great analysis of the ATLANTA AREA ADVANTAGE in AAAAA football.
BTW, I’ve done a little research of my own. Lowndes has played Camden County 12 times, beginning in 1986, including 4 times in the playoffs. The record is 6 and 6. Lowndes has won 3 playoff games 1998, 2004, and 2007. Camden won one playoff game, 2003. Lowndes has scored 217 points and Camden has 135 points. In playoff games, Lowndes has 69 points and Camden has 35. Lowndes has shut out Camden twice in the playoffs.
What does all this mean? LOWNDES IS NOT AFRAID OF THE BLUE CATS. IS THERE ANOTHER SCHOOL IN GEORGIA WHO HAS PLAYED CAMDEN 2 TIMES OR MORE SINCE 1986 THAT CAN SAY THEY HAVE A BETTER RECORD AGAINST THEM?

Contrary to Georgia High School Daily’s Newsletter today, Lowndes has won more than “ONE” playoff game on THE ROAD this decade. Since when does traveling 220 miles to the Georgia Dome to play a game not count as “ON THE ROAD”. Explain that to our players, coaches, band, cheerleaders and fans, and tax payers who bought the diesil fuel and paid the expenses. Todd, sometimes you remind me of EagleNationRising who often spins statistics to make a point.

White Trash – Good luck to you guys. If you beat us, I hope you win State. Let’s keep the title in South Georgia! The game will be a chess match with two very good coaches. I look for a low scoring game. 14-10 or 21-14 like in 03. I’ll be there around 4:30.

I hope all the other bloggers notice the deep respect that Camden and Lowndes have for each other. No trashing of each others schools, players, or coaches. Pulling for each other if the other doesnt make it. This is what high school sports is supposed to be about, great times and great commarodity.

That’s just because both of you guys think this is the state championship. Contrary to popular belief it’s not, it’s only a second round matchup. Neither will see the dome in my opinion

Ok all you doubters CAMDEN took care of business on friday night,we’re looking foward to playing for the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP again as far as grayson and hoover go we had several starters out do to disciplinary reasons. What would be really funny is if CAMDEN and NORTHSIDE end up playing for the state championship which in all reality CAMDEN will be there regardless.

Alot has been said about junior Tyler Hunter of Lowdnes High School without any reference to truth. The truth of the matter is Hunter had swelling that has now gone down. His football career is not over and he will be 100% going into his senior year. It seems as if people were hoping for the worse but no one has control but God. I think with him going through this situation you will see a better player who works harder than ever. So to all you hater, Hunter is back!!!15lowdnes High
