Chili Cheese im on during playoff time.....when we not playn baldwin im a big fan that love what hicks is doing their but yall got fake fans and that's it........you could have ask any die hard hawk fan about our last game against baldwin if we was gonna win and they would have repeated the same thing....."the only way we will win is to have a back up plan ready if the normal power game don't work "......we didn't so we got the doors blew off us and i blame it more on bad coaching....

CHILI CHEESE now u as a fan know if your team has tried the same plays for 3qt and have got only 20 yrd if that and they come out in the 4th doing the same plays its time to go because the coaches have packed it in...NOW i was at the game when yall got beat by peach and i saw hick throw everything in his playbook at peach and i respect that more than how our coaches just gave up or made it seem like they gave up by the play calls and the post game interview was so not what we was use to during rick era.....SAD TO AMITT BUT WE WILL LOSE FRI BUT I WILL BE THEIR BECAUSE THAT WHAT WE DO..SUPPORT OR KIDS REGARDLESS IF WE HATE THE COACHES AND THEIR OUT DATED PLAYBOOK....

Waco Fan,

I was wondering where you have been, nice to hear the same ole excuses from last year.

wow baldwin is who we thought they were YES REGION 3 AAA Champs for the 2nd year in a row.lol………..yall cant pass either NO NEED TOO. and yall know our offense too well and our coaches dont yet understand that but yall will never win state so do it matter NOT TO ME, AS LONG AS WE KEEP BEATIN WACO.
All year last year you talked about the Baldwin fair weather fans, seems most of them moved to visitor side this year, cause the stands sure cleared out early in the 3rd qtr.
But all of that is history, both teams will face worthy opponents this Friday night and I hope both of us are on our game and move forward, cause I would love to see a repeat of 10-30-09 on 12-12-09.

MelissaP...keep up the good words and GO BRAVES !!

BODOG, You got it exactly right. As you have seen Carver-Col has been reclassified as a AA school. The reason: the "no child left behind" program. Same reason that Northside and Hardaway are being moved up to AAAAA. Those kids who are taking a look at their academics from Carver, Spencer, Shaw etc are allowed transfers to schools who meet the basic standards for high school graduation. What saddens me is that the football transfers that Carver benefits from will most likely NEVER make the grades at the next level. Just take a look at what has happened to the most recent stars of Carver football. Aside from Jarmon Fortson, who else? You are also right in that Columbus "cherry picks" the best of the baseball players in Muscogee County. CJ, No change of heart. I feel bad for what happens to the Carver football stars after high school. But until then, I will pull for the Tigers. Just like the American Indians: "Our greatness is measured by the greatness of those who defeated us."

melissa P........hmmm didnt they just post the student enrollment......yall have like 1400 and we had like 1053 students..........guess we have always played in the right class for our school size and when yall was in AAAA,yall was too so stop the crying ......to be real im a former rheem worker for 5 yrs and the fake baldwin fans their always used to cry bout how we had it easy and they had it hard just because baldwin couldnt get pass wr and nswr.....then when baldwin moved down to AAA they was like finally we getting at state title....they must have forgot that in AAA we play the same 11 on 11 football as AAAA ....so if baldwin make it to a state championship game in AAA it will not be a easy ROAD like the fans first thought,it will be because of the hard non region schedule that gets you in playoff shape...

A few of you thought creekview had a chance. everybody has for got how dangerous CARROLLTON really is. Creekview was never in the game. there only touchdowns came off an int at our 13 yard line and the other score came with 9.1 sec left in the game. Like i said the defence is stout, REMMBER THIS, TROJANS TRADITION NEVER GRADURATES.

I know gainesville, carver and peach county are great teams but I think carrollton is just as good as both of those teams. Carrollton has the 5th best offense and the second best defense in AAA. Both carver and gainesville have played carrollton in the playoffs and has seen how diffcult it is to beat them.Gainesvilee hasn't beat them carver did but only by 5 points in 2 games. But we havent played peach county yet but I beleive we can match up with them jusst fine. we will be a good match for anybody who is ready. GO TROJANS

Greetings PeachCountyTrojan79,

I don't know if you could remember but I am associating your Trojan 79 with the 78 years of Bradwell Institute. We played you all, and although we (Bradwell Institute) beat you all we do know that Peach County has a great team. Now that our County has two High Schools, Bradwell Institute and Liberty County, we can all tell you people on this blog that Peach County is a great team. I said this a couple of weeks ago and I was even question by Todd Holcomb (I think or someone from the news media) as to how I came to that decision. I just believe that it would Peach County or a team from Region 3-AAA. That Region (in my opinion) is the toughest in Class AAA this year. They speak a lot about Gainesville, and according to record, Gainesville is good but I look at their schedule and I am not convinced that Gainesville will be the last Teams standing when it is all said and done. Good Luck next week in the 2nd Round....

I know everybody got gainesville pick to win it, but look at their regular season, they havnt played anybody. They dont have not one playoff caliber team on their scheadule. Not one of those teams are in the top 25. So of course they blew everybody out. That's ok the trojans are coming and i guarantee you they'll need more than that receiver and quarterback to beat us. All i wanna say is they havnt been tested. Go Trojans

- To theBull35 -

I appreciate your realistic, yet somewhat disingenuous testimony regarding St. Pius football.

Did St. Pius choose the region the GHSA reclassified them to? I don't think so. It is true, the region they play in is weak. And it is a matter of some concern, because it does not toughen your squad for the quality teams they will face in the playoff run.

Yet doesn't Dunwoody, or any other team that can put a well coached, disciplined and prepared team on the field on Friday nights not enjoy the same advantages of playing within the same region? I certainly believe they do.

Is it really all that surprising that when these two undefeated teams met for the '08 Region title, that one unique player (Treavor Scales - a class act and kid) made the difference for his team in an evenly matched, hard fought, toe-to-toe slugfest that ended in a 20-14 victory for Dunwoody?

It happens on football fields all over the state every Friday night.

Is it any less surprising that when these two teams met again for the '09 Region title, and lacking the impact of one unique player in an evenly matched, hard fought, toe-to-toe slugfest that Dunwoody lost 10-7?

I don't think so. Pius vs Dunwoody is now on the level of a rivalry game. And we look forward to future contests on that last weekend of the regular season. Their fans and coaches are a class act and I certainly hope you are not affiliated with them.

It is truly a case of being manhandled when you lose an '08 playoff game to Cartersville 34-31 having scored 14 unanswered points in the 4th quarter, and are lining up for a tying field goal attempt from the 15 yard line as time runs out in a gutty comeback bid? Or would that be more properly referred to as a "shootout"?

Is it really "no big deal" that Pius defeated Marist on their home field for the first time in 35 years in the opening game of the season by dominating both lines of scrimmage? I don't believe Coach Chadwick would agree with that assessment, and I believe his team found out what he really thought during the next week of practice. It seems they got the message and we wish them luck in the playoffs.

So now Pius is 11-0, and will face another tough opponent in North hall this coming weekend. Will we win, or will we lose? Who knows...it's the playoffs...it's like russian roulette. But one thing is for sure, we will show up to play the game.

And let the chips fall where they may.

sad to say yes the troup game got tight in the second half......they pulled out all the trick plays they had and most of them worked but at the end the better team won so we moving on to play a powerful peach team but everyone in middle GA know a big time game when they see it so at least we have that going for us....

G-Lion granted St. Pius will beat my beloved Lions from F.C. but our defense will get their hits in. I hope they have a whirlpool at St. Pius because they will be sore tomorrow and I dont see our offense mounting much of an attack. Good Luck and in saying all that I guess every team has a chance until the final whistle blows, thats why they play the game on the field and not on paper. The only good thing is at least a lion will move on. Good luck

As a coach in the same region as St Pius, i can attest to you all that Pius has been a benefactor of being in one of the worst sub-regions in 3AAA. When you play the likes of Riverwood, North Atlanta, Therrell, Carver (a team that couldn't beat a Towers team that had one win all of last year) a Grady team that REALLY showed how OVERRATED it was on October 24, when Pius DESTROYED them in the Ga. Dome, with a decent team< you should run through that region. Look at what North Atlanta did against that weak compeition last year. They started off 4-1 and ended the season 5-5. Look at how Carver was destroyed lst year in the playoffs. Look at how Pius was man-handeled in the playoffs last year by Cartersville (and basically by two people). Just look at what happened the past two years in the region championship when all mighty St. Pius had to play Dunwoody (a team with better players and coaches). Last year the #3 team in AAA didnt even win its own region. And this year they barely beat them. And dont give me that crap about them beating Marist the past two years, cause thats how rivalries are supposed to go. Everyone knows that the best time to pull of an upset is early on before both offenses are clicking. Just look at what Marist did to Tucker last year and how they didnt have a prayer in the championship game. So if you can catch my drift, dont expect to see Pius too far down the road. Not a Pius hater, just a realist and someone who understands footbsll and not fooled by the 10-0 record (remember, I coached against them).

Hey NTH (8-2),
Not hating on you, just want to point out that your win streak is built on (mostly) weak teams. All you say may well be true, but you have to take into consideration that those teams just weren't nearly as strong as the teams you lost to.

NTH (8-2),

Don't worry about what people are saying about North Hall, they lost two games this year to possible state champs. They seem to forget that BOTH teams were ranked #1 when NH played them, and that Gainesville hasn't had a close game all season. Don't worry, just let NH take care of them if they make it far enough in the playoffs to play NH.

cj,

What you said is true, when you are a winner, everyone wants to play for you. But at the same time, you're expected to keep winning, and go farther and farther in the playoffs. Therefore, I personally think that it's a combination of the two, kids transferring in to play for a possible championship, and coaches recruiting to stay in the hunt for more state titles. I'm not saying that Coach McGee or Coach Miller at Gainesville are doing anything different than anyone else, just saying that they are doing a better job at it. I know for certain that Gainesville recruits from all over Hall Co., and I'd be willing to bet that CC recruits in Muscogee County. But in all fairness, I'd also be willing to bet that there are a lot of transfers to CC, just like there is to Gainesville. Thomas Sprague (#34) for Gainesville, transferred there to enhance his scholarship opportunities, as have a number of players there, and my guess is that is probably what's happening at CC, also. I'm not dogging either school, but none of us need to pretend that it's not happening at OUR school. Oh yeah, NTH(8-2), it happens at North Hall, too. The difference is that Miller and McGee are better coaches than Christmas.

I dont agree with the person who said that North Hall is mediocre. Thats 100% Grade A bullcookies!!! North Halls only losses were to Gainesville and Buford. And we lost alot of players to injury during the scrimmage and and 1st game. And the Creekview game is when we started getting players healthy again. Now, the Trojans are 100% and are ready to give their all. Those two losses are a thing of the past, because since then North Hall is winning by an average score of 42-10 over the course of a 7 game win streak. Plus North Hall gets better and more sound each week. They will make a great run in the postseason. Go Trojans!!!

The only game that creekview lost this year was to North Hall, and I'm not going to lie they execute their plays and fill their gaps on defense. But cherokee county was out of school that week and and creekiew's players weren't focused. everybody that creekview meets i the playoffs better not take creekview lightly.

Burke county 1 fan. Ok lol. What are you smoking? It can't be legal. Carver Columbus over rated. Have you seen them play. Do you know the size of or d-line. It will be a long night for Mr. Brigham. Ask some of the teams that Carver has played if they are over rated. Who on you team will stop I.Crowell. He might have 200 yards by halftime.

Coach McGee is just using the system he was taught under the best coach in GHSA history. Buzz Busby. Discipline and hard work pay off. Look at Greenville where another Busby pupil is undefeated. Great work guys. Keep it up!

cj,

I agree completely eith ehat you are saying about Coach McGee. He's a great man both on and off the field. On the field, he's a good coach, leader and disciplinarian. He keeps his players focused on the game at hand, and doesn't let them look ahead. Each player is held accountable for what he does during the game, and off the field. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach McGee. But, Coach Miller at Gainesville is the same way. That's why I think whoever wins that game (if both teams make it that far, which I think that they will), will be the state champs. It's a shame that those two teams weren't on opposite sides of the bracket, it would have made a great championship game.

Bodog maybe its the Coaching Staff of Carver that gets these kids ready to play. Look at the Smith kid from Douglas he was an all world DT but his team went 1-9. I said that to say that its not just all about talent but coaching and preperation as well. I looked at the records of the other teams and they had defeats to Lagrange, Troup, Northside, Monroe, and etc.... Carver played a hard out of region schedule. When Dell Mcgee got there he made the kids hit the weight room and focused hard on the off season training. Mcgee played in college and the pros. He knows what it takes to win. So stop crying

Bodog maybe its the Coaching Staff of Carver that gets these kids ready to play. Look at the Smith kid from Douglas he was an all world DT but his team went 1-9. I said that to say that its not just all about talent but coaching and preperation as well. I looked at the records of the other teams and they had defeats to Lagrange, Troup, Northside, Monroe, and etc…. Carver played a hard out of region schedule. When Dell Mcgee got there he made the kids hit the weight room and focused hard on the off season training. Mcgee played in college and the pros. He knows what it takes to win. So stop crying

Greetings cj,

I took carver Of Columbus not because their are hosting, but Burke County has lost their will to win. After Region 3-AAA Liberty County beat them in their Bears den, it seems as if they lost their killer instinct. That is why I am going with Carver of Columbus.

Dear overrated:
Perhaps you are correct about Pius being overrated. But, they ARE rated over you.
You mention youth. Pius is also young so that is no consolation for Dunwoody.
Pius can pass but why bother when you couldn't stop the run? We lined up and ran it down your throat. An 8-minute TD drive to start the game and, WHEN THE GAME WAS ON THE LINE IN THE 4TH QTR, we ran it down your throat. No deception - just 2 tight ends and a fullhouse backfield. You couldn't stop any of it when it mattered.

As for Cole Moon... guess who got the majority of carries as Pius ran over you? Do you want me to send you a picture of the bottom of his cleats so that you can remember the game more accurately?

You've got a good team; they play well. Good luck in the playoffs.

St. Pius is overrated and their season will probably br over after week two of the playoffs. A young Dunwoody team exposed St. Pius this past Friday night. The can not pass and relied solely on Cole Moon who is also overrated.

And to add onto what SPXLions said... We actually do have speed this year. In fact, this IS the fastest and most athletic team that Pius has ever put on the field. The defense is also the best defense we've ever had, the dominance has been really something to watch. Then on offense we WILL dominate the clock and continueously move the chains with Cole Moon.

Watch out..

Creekview is a nasty lil team. My cousin plays on there and i went to a game last year. Gotta pick them as the blackhorse. Also think they'll go back to Eastside and really pull the upset there in the 2nd round.

And about columbus high which done won the state in baseball about 10 times in the last 20 years it's a public school but you have to take test and have like a 3.3 to go there like a private school but ani't noboby talking about that either because carver is a mostly black school you hater's want to say they are doing something wrong which they are not it's a magnet school if you all what that is dam!!!

Sir Miller,

I like your assessment of the third round games. Only one problem, Flowery Branch will beat Ridgeland this weekend, so there will be no Ridgeland/CC matchup. Flowery Branch proved last year that they could win on the road when they had to play EVERY game (and won), all the way to the state finals, where they lost to Cairo. Believe me when I say that 7AAA is that good. I also think that Creekview will beat Carrolton this weekend, too. 7AAA will have 2, possibly 3 teams in the quarterfinals (Gainesville, Flowery Branch, North Hall.) A lot of people are counting NH out of it after losing big to Gainesville and Buford early in the season, but NH has made a lot of adjustments since those two losses, and are playing lights out right now. As a matter of fact, NH hasn't lost a game since back-to-back losses to Buford and Gainesville. So, in my opinion, 7AAA sweeps 6AAA this weekend. I also agree that Gainesville winds up as the AAA champs, after beating CC and Peach Co.

Cj..... I have already contacted GHSA they see no problem as long as students abide by edict applied by school board. In Muscogee Co. all you have to do is pay a feem and make out a transfer application, and you can go to any other school . You tell me Cj, if there is not a problem there; then why does all the other schools have 3-7, 1-9, 4-5, 0-10.....seasons year after year..If i was coaching at any of those schools....MAGNET school or not I would do a litte talking and fine out what is going on...I will give you another example .....Columbus High wins in BASEBALL every year......It is the same senerio.

BODOG well tell us how you really feel. Carver is a magnet school just like Shaw is. So how does Carver get to pick their players. How do you feel about Gainsville who has had muliple players transfer in. I'm sorry to tell you but Lagrange gets its share of out of zone players. If there is this big problem call the GHSA. Some teams already got busted this year.

for those of you that are hating on St. Pius X for not having speed to match up with some of the top rated teams yal are crazy. They run the wing-t well enough to control the clock and dominate the trenches. St. Pius X never has the top athletes but year after year they continue to make it to the playoffs. This team reminds me a lot of the 2006 team that went to the semi finals and I think that this team has to be one of the favorites to win the AAA state championship. Remember they played Gainesville close in a scrimmage earlier this season and even though it was a scrimmage they at least know what to expect if they were to see them in the Finals.
AINT NO LION LIKE A GOLDEN LION!!!!!!!!!!

CJ, leechampion and Sir Miller...Good stuff. I have recently written some posts regarding Carver that I wish I had worded differently. Carver Coach Dell McGee has done an amazing coaching job. The players on the Carver roster are hands down the best in the state. Now for some humility, Sir Miller brought up the subject of LaGrange in the 4th quarter. Even as I bleed Granger blood, he is right. Carver and LaGrange are polar opposites. Carver owns the 4th quarter against ANYONE. Linemen just too big for opposing defenses. LaGrange on the other hand has not had a come from behind win when trailing at the half against ANYONE since 2004.(I could be wrong, but if so, not by much. Just recalling from memory). Gainesville is talented and have 2 studs on offense as well as a disciplined defense which rarely misses tackles. Carver has a great shot in 2009 but this may be the most competitive year in AAA that we have seen.

leechampion, Gainesville is a great team this year but since you have not seen them play, you can compare them to Peach Co because they mirror each other on the field from offense to defense and even special teams. The game between Carver and Gainesville is going to be one for the ages if both teams are blessed to make it that far!

These are my Predictions for the Class AAA Playoffs:
First Round:
1) Peach Co D. 4) Spalding
2) Washington Co. D. 3) Troup
1) St.Pius X D. 4)Franklin Co
2) North Hall D. 3)Ringgold
4) Monroe D. 1) Jackson
2) LaGrange D. 3) Liberty Co
1) Eastside D. 4) Towers
2) Carrollton D. 3) Creekview
1) Gainesville D. 4) Lakeview F.O.
2) Dunwoody D. 3) Elbert Co
1) Baldwin D. 4) Northside, Columbus
2) Cairo D. 3) Woodland
1) Ridgeland D. 4) Flowery Branch
3) Grady D. 2) Hart Co
1) Carver D. 4) Burke Co
2) Woodward Academy D. 3) Worth Co

Second Round:
1) Peach Co D. 2) Washington Co
1) St. Pius X D. 2) North Hall
2) LaGrange D. 4) Monroe
1) Eastside D. 2) Carrollton
1) Gainesville D. 2) Dunwoody
1) Baldwin D. 2) Cairo
1) Ridgeland D. 3) Grady
1) Carver D. 2) Woodward Academy

Third Round (Elite 8):
1) Peach Co D. 1) St. Pius X - St. Pius X will lose this one in a close game, but the can not match Peach Co's speed and athletes.
1) Eastside D. 2) LaGrange - You have a great Defense in LaGrange verses a very good Offense in Eastside, but Eastside will prevail in the when it comes down to the 4th quarter.
1) Gainesville D. 1) Baldwin - Gainesville has the best Offense that I have seen in the state, but Baldwin still has some weapons from last years great Defense. Whoever has home-field advantage in this matchup should take this one, but I am going with the might Red Elephants in this one.
1) Carver D. 1) Ridgeland - The great Carver Defense has not skipped a beat from last years Final Four apperence, but Ridgeland is just a small task in there way as they cruise to an easy win.

Fourth Round (Final 4):
1) Peach Co. D. 1) Eastside - Peach's speed on Defense is going to be a wake up call to Eastside because there region was weak this year and they did not face a Defense like Peach Co. I will see the Trojans of Peach Co. in the Georgia Dome for the finals.
1) Gainesville D. 1) Carver - The match up that everyone has been waiting on will occur a round sooner than people thought, but it will be a true slugfest as Gainesville has revenge in the back of there minds because of what happened last year when Carver beat the Red Elephants 28-14 in Columbus. This is really going to depend on where this game is played at, if it is played in Gainesville, expect the Red Elephants to be packing up for the Dome on December 12th. If the game is played in Columbus, it is gonna be a true dogfight like last years game. The winner of this game has a true chance of winning the Class AAA Title.

Fifth Round (Championship Game):
1) Gainesville VS 1) Peach Co - The true battle between North VS. South and two teams that have been #1 and #2 in the AAA pole throughout the majority of the year. This is a matchup of teams that mirror each other exactly on the field from size, speed, and athletes. This game will be played in the Georgia Dome, so there is going to be no room for excuses if some fans like to blame things on the cold Northeast Georgia weather. It is going to come down to good ole' Coaching, Gainesville brings a great Coach in Bruce Miller who has made the playoffs every year since he has been coaching at Gainesville since 2001. Peach Co. brings third year coach Chad Campbell, Campbell has been to the playoffs his first two years at Peach, but they have failed to make it past the first round. Gainesville is more disciplined and well coached than Peach Co. I am going with the Mighty Red Elephants of Gainesville as they bring home the first state Championship in there schools history!

My Predictions:

Spalding (5-5) at Peach County (10-0) Easy win for Peach County
Troup (6-4) at Washington County (9-1) Take Washington County
Franklin County (5-5) at St. Pius (10-0) Take St Pius X
Monroe (7-3) at Jackson (10-0) Take Jackson
Ringgold (8-2) at North Hall (8-2) Take North Hall (Toss up)
Liberty County (7-3) at LaGrange (8-2) Liberty County brings a strong defense.
Liberty County played well against 3 ranked Class AAAteams

Give Creekview some respect. They have the BEST EVER win/loss record for a new school. In four years of varsity football, this is the second trip to the playoffs. They would have gone the other two years as well but were on a non-region schedule with other new schools.
