Fred - That was a good one! You are definitely right about the parking (even though ya'll made us park down in the woods and walk half a mile to the stadium)! The stadium was pretty nice (home side anyway). You better pray that it doesn't flood though because it feels like you're going down into a pit. Good luck to you this Friday!

VikingsOnAMission said " Lowndes’ side did not have nearly as many “empty seats” as did Grayson’s side (4 hour drive vs. 15 minute drive ..hhmmmmm…)"

That's because y'all got there early and took all the parking spots!!! :)

Thanks, Grayram! I'm not sure what prompted that post on the Vikings website. I know rumors swarmed down here that tickets were sold out for a couple of away games when they actually were NOT sold out. I figure that is what happened this time also. We DO have several games during the year that sell out during the week before the night of the game. I'm guessing someone was afraid this one would sell out also and so they started mass pandomonium. Good luck against Roswell (don't think you'll need it though)!

Grayram will be the first we notify if and when the "Lowndes folks" EVER get worried about our Vikings! We support them win or lose. It sure is fun to be winning right now though (2004, 2005, 2007 AND ..... 2009)! And by the way, Lowndes' side did not have nearly as many "empty seats" as did Grayson's side (4 hour drive vs. 15 minute drive ..hhmmmmm...)

grayram............. Come on down to South Georgia if you want to see what a real stadium looks like. Lowndes,Valdosta, Tift, and Northside to name a few. Should you get to the semi's, maybe Northside will win the coin toss and you can see The Mac.

I'm not worried but it sound like The Lowndes folks are.
I beleive the number that showed up at Grayson was quite a bit lower than claimed.

grayram - Why are you worried about lowndes selling their tickets to the Camden game? You must have forgotten how many fans we brought 4.5 hours to Grayson last year. Of course we will sell out and send just as many 2.5 hours to Kingsland. You getting worried already????

Whew! Thank you. I got so fired up I missed that totally. As the saying goes, I was about to go from preaching to medling! Now I'm glad I didn't say everything I was thinking. ;)

Sportsfan, big j - Region 3AAAAA does need Bradwell to get better next year, which I believe they will. Bradwell is normally a good team and plays decent against Camden. That is why Camden and Bradwell usually plays the last game of the year to get geared up for the playoffs. They will be back.

Big J,

I have a lot to say about that. But now is not the time. After the season is over, I will speak out about it. I will tell you this, if you could check the history of the Savannah Teams vs Bradwell Institute, you will see differently and understand what I am saying. Bradwell Institute should have been at the very least 8-2 this year, and even with a lost to Stephenson, it should not been such a wide margin of victory. Bradwell Institute got hammered, and the fans of Liberty County / Bradwell Institute has to live with that for an entire year. There is a lot discussion about this among the fans and the powers that be. but i wont go into it right now. There have been a lot of Coaching vacancies this year hasn't it?

slalom1,

Okay, my mistake. I thought that it was Hardway. I want to college with a few people from Hardaway and Kendrick, in which a couple of them were on basketball scholarships from Hardaway. But that was years ago.

SGT Chris States:
Sportsfan–Unless youre one of those AAAAA crazies, of course you have heard of those teams you mentioned…If you focus on the class that YOUR team is in, then of course the Liberty Counties are going to slip through the cracks.

Greetings Sgt Chris,

That's what occurred.

That was only this year. Bradwell Institute have dominated ALL of the Savannah Teams. No Doubt about it. Check the history. I will PROMISE that no Savannah team will beat Bradwell Institute next year in football.

1-AAAAA Sweep, if what you say is true about the Lowndes team going to Jacksonville, I'm sorry but to me, that is an example of what can be wrong with high school football! I have to assume they are having some sort of classes during the week. If not, that makes it worse! AAARRRGGGHHH!!! I have to go find some type of chill pill now. I hope you are just rattling our cages.

Trojan94--Anytime, anywhere, 4 am in the street in Whitesburg. Doesn't matter.

Newnan is in a 10 team region and only have one slot for an out of region game. We have been rotating your Trojans and LaGrange. We hope to have Carrollton on the slate for 2010-11.

Just ask yourself the question, "Would Newnan beat Ridgeland?"

Is lowndes having trouble selling their tickets for the Camden game?
this is from Lowndes website

"Regardless of what you may have read or heard in the rumor mills, we have plenty of tickets for Viking fans. If we can sell them, the entire visitor side will be Vikings. However, if we cannot sell our side, then we must return them to Camden County, and they will sell them."

I see a certain individual keeps complaining about Camden getting a #1 seed every year cause of the region. Understand your issue, but it would be one thing if we kept getting the #1 seed and losing every year, but the matter of the fact we keep on winning, and it is not being wasted. So until then, good luck in the playoffs and go Wildcats.

TJ - I understand your theory about Lowndes traveling all the way to North Gwinnett and possibly being "flat" because of the long bus ride. Maybe they'll do like they did this week. I heard they went down to Jacksonville Tuesday, checked into a riverfront hotel near the Landing, will practice in the Gator Bowl (Alltel Stadium) Wed and Thursday, go to the beach Friday morning, and make the short trip up to Camden Friday afternoon in time for a pregame steak. When your Touchdwon Club raises over $250,000 per year you can do those things. When we went to Grayson last year it was the day after Thanksgiving so we couldn't travel early, it wasn't fair to the players and coaches to be away from family on such a Holiday.

Just saying.........(But hey, don't believe everything your read on these blogs!).

Yo,
This is my thought process. The rankings I look at is the Massey ratings. Lowndes is ranked #1 and North Gwinnet #2 and I agree with that. Points I am not so concerned with, Lowndes obviously has better JV than North to finish weak teams, equates to more points. My point is Lowndes has (Massey) ranking of the #1 offense #12 defense in the state and North Gwinnett has #4 defense and #9 offense. NSWR ranked #7 defense and #21 offense and they beat Lowndes when Lowndes traveled up to the Mac. Lowndes also lost when they traveled up to Grayson. With the extra long travel to North Gwinnett which is even further north than Grayson, Wing T is not a come from behind offense, and finally the emotional fight with Camden will weaken Lowndes is why I pick North Gwinnet over Lowndes *IF* they beat Camden, which I think they will. I think it is a horrible bracket to have the best teams in the state to play for semis, but it is what it is and who ever wins this game between Lowndes and North Gwinnett will be in the dome in my very humble opinion.

Yo,
This is my thought process.
Hey slalom1...
If what you say is true (about Carver's substandard test scores) that would mean that all the people that have been telling me those football players that are transferring there for academic reasons are probably being deceptive. Unless, the academic reason IS the lower standards.
But I bet the bench press test scores and the 40-yd dash test scores are really impressive.

Lowndes County will play for the state title and likely win it. This team will run over every currently undefeated team in the state. Don't let the NR lose fool you. Camden will be crushed this week.

Win or Lose this week the Colquitt County Packers are one of the, if not the, most improved team this year. They went from 4-6 in 2008 to currently 9-2 and in the second round of the playoffs in 2009. Went from one of the worst defense to a damn good one in only one season. The Packers while currently 9-2 have yet to play at their full potential. But the really good part is wait until you see the 2010 Packer Team!

Well said wardawg one thing a little different about union grove offence is its run from a pistol formation. You are completly correct about the defences of all these schools a lot of talent turnovers will be huge as well as field position lookin forward to friday win or lose just can't wait to see good football after last friday

Let's bury Camdens region's dead horse. Enough is enough. Let's talk football friday in AAAAA. Power football teams: Lowndes, Northside,Grayson,Brookwood,Colquitt, Newnan, Woodstock, P-Ridge, ML King, Union Grove, Camden
Spread: Lassiter, N/S Gwinnett,Roswell, Stephenson.

True dual threat(PASS/RUN)Northside, Grayson, Stephenson, ML King, P-Ridge, Brookwood.

All teams have 1 thing in common: Big Time Defensive play makers. The team who controls field position and special teams will move on friday. With the exception of P-ridge, Northside, Grayson, Lowndes, Camden,Stephenson, Brookwood, Woodstock and Newnan, I did not get to see the other teams. Plus these teams are mainstays in the playoffs. Good luck to all teams, be safe and injury free. Maintain good sportsmanship.

Let me add 1 more point to the issue of Camden county playing in our current region. Ask any one at Camden from fans, to players, coaches, parents, students, local business, it doesnt matter. We would all love to be in a tougher region. Its evident at the games we play. When we play tough compitition the fans are there weither its a home game or us going to Alabama or South Carolina to play. When Camden plays weak teams, the fan interest drops off and there are not as many fans. Think about it, Would you travel 100 miles to watch your team play someone that you know they are going to beat by 50 points or would you go knowing that it will be a toss up? The best 2 games I saw this year were the first 3 games. All won or lost by a small point margin. But a tree games played against very tough opponents.

All i know is that i have got a ticket to Camden Vs Lowndes and i am excited and can't hardly wait till kick-off @7:30 friday. The last time i went to kingsland it was a heck of a ballgame right down to the wire. Lowndes lost and it was a long trip home. I feel like Lowndes has a LITTLE stronger team but they have fumbled the ball to much the last few games. They were able to overcome the fumbles but neither of the teams were Camden county. I have a great deal of respect for Camden and their program and outside of 1AAAAA they are allies that i will pull for. I don't know who is going to win the game but i wish both teams a great game without any injuries. Go Vikings!

SportsFan 31313, Carver lost Approx 200 students in 2009 due to academic transfers to Northside and Hardaway. (Carver's average test scores do not meet current state standards). As for Hardaway, I am pretty certain that Hardaway is known mostly for their academic standards as opposed to any particular sport. You may be thinking about Northside-Col who had 2 6'10 centers in 2008. One signed with Oklahoma St and the other with Ga St.

SGT CHRIS, Good for your daughter going to Hardaway. Solid academic school. As for Region 2AAA, I believe you have it just about right. As it stands it is Shaw, LaGrange, Troup and Kendrick. (I believe). Carver will most likely elect to "play-up". LOL. But with the region so decimated, just wonder what teams will comprise 2AAA in 2010. Maybe Carrollton and Central Carrollton will join? For what it is worth I have heard some rumors about a major coaching announcement at a certain Muscogee County school.

Trojan94---You do know LaGrange is undefeated against Carrollton right lol!!! but It has been widely reported that Jackson has played the EASIEST schedule in AAA, so their record is suspect. But like Slalom1 and I have stated, Liberty County was better prepared than we were, and thats taking nothing from the team..You can tell they had us WELL, VERY WELL scouted...But, as anyone who is a Granger fan probably will tell you, we had our chances, but the one that sticks out with me is not going for it on 4th down from inside the two, taking a penalty to kick a field goal, botch the field goal and come away with ZERO points...

IF things hold true to form, the only schools in the current 2-AAA that will be left will be LaGrange, Troup, and Shaw...I think Northside Columbus and Columbus (watch out AAAAA baseball powers) will jump from AAA to AAAAA along with Hardaway which is currently in AAAA. My daughter goes to Hardaway, and they are already over 2100 students, and this is only 09

Can anyone say CARVER vs BUFORD!!!!

Hey Slalom its time we petition for a west ga classic similar to the Corky kell..What do you think!!!

Sportsfan--Unless youre one of those AAAAA crazies, of course you have heard of those teams you mentioned...If you focus on the class that YOUR team is in, then of course the Liberty Counties are going to slip through the cracks

TJ
1st question...How many points has your high scoring NG offense averaged this year as compared to Lowndes (oh just another Wing T) offensive average?

2nd question....given your answer to the first question....what would most experts say as to which of the 2 teams has played the toughest over all competition this year?

3rd question....given you have correctly learned the answer to the first two questions....How could that possibly be?

ps-I'm not considering you or I an expert, so I'm not looking for opinions. Look say to Rivals, etc.

big j let me help end this argument about Camden and their #1 seed guarantee every year. Look at it this way, if Camden was in your region then how much would it change the fact that Camden would not have a #1 seed guarantee pretty much every year? The answer is very little to none.

You know, I said that it would be a hard fought game between Newnan and Valdosta, and let me tell you this. Newnan will beat M.L.K. But I don't know after that. Newnan will then have to face Grayson, and that will be a huge battle.

SWD Panther Paw,

Well I disagree with you again. I believe that those Class AAAA teams would be no match for Bradwell Institute. Brunswick / Bradwell Institute record of wins..... Bradwell Institute have them in the series 9-6. Glynn Academy we lead the series 19 -13 Effingham County 18-9 Camden County now has the lead on Bradwell Institute 19-17-2 Statesboro we also lead the series 15-14. The only team you have mention that now holds the series on Bradwell Institute is Camden County. So like i said before, all of the recent wins belong to Bradwell Institute except Camden County.

Bradwell Institute plays in that region, and dominates, the I will hear again that the Region is weak. I hope Bradwell Institute petition to play up since the student enrollment is so close to Class AAAAA.

SportsFan 31313, Well spoken. Game film may be worth something, but no substitute for "scouting" a game. Once again, Congrats to Liberty County on a game well played and well coached. As a side note, I suppose you are aware that Carver has been reclassified as AA in 2010.? Lost quite a few academically oriented kids to Northside-Col and Hardaway.

Just wanted to give a "High 5" to the Newnan Cougars for the win over Valdosta in round 1. Pulling hard for the Cougars.
(Even though I hate what has happened to Coach Tomberlin). As for the MLK game, it is Newnan all the way. Hope to make it to the game. Good luck Cougars.

You don't have tell me. I do know about Carver of Columbus. Those guys are big, and they are a very good team. I remember when Bradwell Institute played them in the playoffs. Bradwell Institute beat them but it was a fight to the finish. I think that score was either 10-0 or 10-6.

slalom1 States:
SportsFan31313, Liberty County may not be the most talented team I have seen in 2009, but may very well be the best coached. (Rest assured they have plenty of talent as well.) The Liberty County defense knew EVERYTHING the Grangers were going to do on offense. Probably due to the diligent work in scouting the Grangers. If I were you I would consider Liberty County a well coached underdog with a handful of play makers on both sides of the ball. Who knows? But rest assured, Liberty County WILL be prepared for the game by their coaching staff. Best I have seen in 2009.

Greetings Slalom1,

Liberty County may not be the best talented that you have seen this year, but yes Sir, they are talented, and yes again Sir, They are very well coached. You see, and I know that you know this. A lot of times, a team may not be as talented as another team but if the no so talented team has a very good football coach, they may very well beat the more talented team.

Now as for Liberty County, they were under the radar because a lot of people from North Georgia don't respect some teams from South Georgia unless you are the Camden Counties, the Lowndes, the Northside Warner Robins, the Newnans, etc. Day in and day out we hear this. Then we hear about the weak Region 3 and the Savannah Schools. But I wonder if they heard of Region 3 A Emmanuel County Institute, Region 3 -A Savannah Christian, Region 3-A Johnson County, Region 3-A Treutlen County, and then you have Region 3-AA Jefferson County, Swainsboro. You see there are a lot of great football programs that come out of Region 3 and they are still in the post playoff contention.

Liberty County has a great staff of Coaches, and they study teams very well. They don't always rely on film as we all know now. In addition, Coach Kirk Warner (Former University Of Georgia Football Star Tight End) know how to get those great group of young men to respond. That mean a lot, and it is important. I hope that they win this Friday as the town will probably be shut down to travel to see this game Friday. Liberty County has a great defense, a Star Quarterback, and running back. They play very well offensively.

SportsFan 31313 and Trojan 94, We all know that pre-game does not count. But when you see the size and athleticism of the Carver players, you will be shocked. Having said that , they are beatable. But DO NOT WAIT until the 4th quarter. The Carver linemen are just too big. They will wear down an OL from any team in the state to make room for I. Crowell to break at least 1 or 2 big runs. Carver has owned the 4th quarter against EVERY team they have played in 2009. The key is to take advantage of the typically slow start for Carver. Throw your best stuff at them early in the game. Then hold on. Northside led 21-0 at half time. Then pulled off a 21-12 win. That is THE key.

Good point, Valdosta! North is exactly like Peachtree Ridge. Just another weak Gwinnett County team. I'm sure Lowndes will crush North by at least 45 points if both teams make it to that game. There is no point for Lowndes to even look at any film.

I don't know why I even bothered to post that there might be something to consider. Silly me.

By the way, do bring those junk autos and trucks. The Suwanee cops will be looking for Lowndes County license plates, burnout lights, that sort of thing. We need to pay for the new City Hall.

K, Bye!

trojan94 States:
SportsFan 31313 You’er right that win for them sent shockwaves on this side of georgia because of how good a program LAGRANGE is. Not to put anything past EASTSIDE, but if we beat them and Liberty Co. beats JACKSON, that would be our third round game with us hosting.

Greetings trojan94,

I'm hoping that Liberty County makes it to the Dome. No one in the Metro Area seem to respect any team from Region 3 of any A's. Hopefully now that has changed and give this region the respect they so deserve. I stated all season long that Region 3 AAA (in my opinion ) was the strongest Region in the State for this Classification. Now we at this time still have three teams from that region going into the second round. I haven't checked yet, but if Liberty County wins this coming Friday, who will they face next? I am proud of that Liberty County Panther team.

Trojan 94, I wish the best for Carrollton in 2009. As someone else said before me, AAA is the most balanced classification in Ga. Most everyone left has a shot. Gainsville probably has the state's top 2 offensive players as well as a great defense. Carver-Col has linemen that are SEC size, plus 2 outstanding offensive players. I never gave much thought to St. Pius until I saw some film last week. They may have something as well. Then there is Peach County and Carrollton. Both perrenial powers who could get the job done. Don't forget WACO and Liberty County along with Baldwin. I can see any of these outstanding programs taking it to the top.

Greetings That Guy ,

LOL to answer your question, you know, I know, and a lot of people on this blog know that Schools in the great State Of Georgia (not every school) illegally recruit players from out of their district / zone to play for another team. (sometimes rival school) That's without question. How about this year? Need I say more? :-)

To: That Guy, I have spouted so much venom about players playing outside of their districts that I have become weary of the subject. But as you pointed out, the "transfer" issue persists while the spineless GHSA does nothing about it.

SportsFan 31313, Liberty County may not be the most talented team I have seen in 2009, but may very well be the best coached. (Rest assured they have plenty of talent as well.) The Liberty County defense knew EVERYTHING the Grangers were going to do on offense. Probably due to the diligent work in scouting the Grangers. If I were you I would consider Liberty County a well coached underdog with a handful of playmakers on both sides of the ball. Who knows? But rest assured, Liberty County WILL be prepared for the game by their coaching staff. Best I have seen in 2009.

Granger Fans, It is time for a change. While playing in a weak 2AAA region, the once mighty Grangers have become a joke on game day against a worthy opponent. In the past 3 seasons, the only team to beat in 2AAA was Carver-Col. The Grangers lost all 3 contests. In addition, the Grangers now have the distinction of having lost in the 1st round of the play-offs in 2 of the past 3 years.(2007 to Perry and 2009 to Liberty County). The Granger players deserve better. Again, "kudos" to Liberty County for a job well done.

Shhhhh, TJ! North has to get by Woodstock first, and believe me they are no pushover.

We would much rather Lowndes coming in to Suwanee counting on a win just like in the past. It appears they run basically the same offense and defense. So they might as well run exactly the same sort of game, counting on the same result. Let them swagger and primp. There is barely any point to North even showing up for the game, they are in the ominous 1AAAAA after all. North isn't even fit to clean the cleats of such a mighty team.

That was then. This is now. Different year. Different North team. I sure hope it is Lowndes and not Camden for a guaranteed home game from an overconfident opponent. They have no idea what sort of football is being played in Suwanee this year.

I disagree with your comment 'They all would be no match for Bradwell' did a little research. Let's see since 2000 Bradwell vs Glynn record 6-4 last game played GA won this year 27-20......BWK record 4-2 last game played BWK won 42-14 in 2005......You haven't play Statesboro since 1997 and You guy's haven't beaten Camden since 1998 most of the games not even close.......So it look's to me as if Bradwell is more a 4-A school then your mind would have you believe. I don't think Bradwell would have a HUGE advantage if they played in 4-A.

i would agree with wolverine fan and add that many of the high school players that play in small towns often move back there and thus their children are playing football for the same program. in atlanta most families move around or are from out of state so keeping that longevity is harder.

The longevity has a lot to do with youth football in the areas... many youth football programs mold their teachings to the particular offenses and defences of particular high schools. These kids start learing schemes at a very young age and continue to learn same as they go up in programs.

Martin Luther King, Jr.. The school was originally opened as a way to alleviate overcrowding in surrounding middle schools. When originally opened it only included grades 6-7 and grades 9-11 and each year continued to drop the middle school grades, until it became a total high school, from grades 9-12 in the 2003-2004 school year

Here's an interesting project for someone. Just curious how many of the remaining football powers have out of district players enrolled at their school. Whether legally playing across district lines or not, I'd be willing to bet that there are a lot more out there than folks would be willing to admit. How else can you explain the longevity of success of the traditional powers in each classification. The ever changing demographics in the state of Georgia would seem to alter the balance of power from 1 year to the next.

I will tell you this, with those teams you've mentioned, (South Effingham, Glynn Academy,Brunswick and Jenkins) Statesboro may looking of past history but we've beaten them too. They all will be no match for Bradwell Institute. But on Second thoughts, Well, I don't know since we played the way we played last week against Stephenson. I will be back to finish address your question.

SportsFan 31313 You'er right that win for them sent shockwaves on this side of georgia because of how good a program LAGRANGE is. Not to put anything past EASTSIDE, but if we beat them and Liberty Co. beats JACKSON, that would be our third round game with us hosting.

Showtime, if our kids go there with the right attitude anything can happen. I am really looking forward to the game. The pressure is on NSWR not us. They have been hyped to unprecedented heights; we on the other hand are just the lowly underdog who beat a bad Windsor Forest team to get here. What most people don't know is that our 2 losses in my opinion were to two of the top teams in the State.

I must be missing something.......why couldn't Bradwell be placed in what is presently region 2-AAAA with a few adjustments. You are mistaken..... look at the classification list again South Effingham, Glynn Academy,Brunswick and Jenkins are class 4-AAAA schools and I'm sure Wayne and Ware may request to play up for travel and cost purposes to play in that region which they are presently in...... add Statesboro to the mix and you have a pretty good 4-A region. Why are you even bringing the Macon/ Warner Robins schools in the mix? This to me sounds and looks more feasible than what you're proposing by moving up to 5-A where there would be only two coastal schools........ Unless Bradwell is just determined to go 5-A....... I guess the fun is in the guessing we'll all know soon enough in a couple of weeks...Oh, by the way.........I come from Southeast Georgia also.

I still think tight game I just don't see either offences controling game

I can't understand the lovefest that everyone has with others in your region. The kids I know aren't sympathetic to the competition what so ever. I guess it gives everyone talking points so that when their school is done playing, they can jump on the bandwagon of the guys that have beaten them. The thing that is most important is that a team is only as good or as bad as their next game. You can't take past occurrences and apply them to the current task.

Big j.........It's a lot of trash talk on this blog , seriously though , look winning the state is not an easy thing to do...I don't think you've seen any Northside supporter on this blog flat out say the Eagles will win the State title , The Eagles are a young squad ,not only because of the underclassmen ,many of the seniors didn't get much playing time last season. Northside only returned maybe 6 starters from the 2008 squad..and still there are too many good teams still in the mix.....We've had some good teams here at Northside over the last 10 or so years . Northside's 1999 ,2001 ,2005 ,2006 and 2007 teams were championship caliber teams ,they were all complete teams......The 2009 is a good one , and could win the state if everything comes together , The defense is there ,but the offense is still maybe a year out. I don't think U. G will give the Eagles too much of a problem ,after that Pridge , Newnan or Grayson is a diferent story.......Ive seen enough good high school football teams to know if they're championship caliber ,this sqaud still has work to do.......after the Camden loss last year ,I knew then no other team would beat the Cats the way they handled Northside in the 4th qrt of the game.........thats the real story.
