yes congrats gwinnett county 7-2. and ill say wesleyan is almost for sure gonna win class A. and buford shoud win AA. ptree ridge plays brookwood next week so that will eliminate one more gwinnett team. who do you think will lose suwanee 0wnz? i think brookwood played over their heads tonight. their defense isnt usually that great so i fully expect ptree ridge to beat them next week.

Grayson student, we run an I-formation with 3 receivers on every play. It is very boring but so far has worked. I would ask what formation Grayson runs, but it probably won’t matter because I don’t think our defense can see over your offensive line. Oh well.

BTW, way to go Richmond Academy! First playoff win in 39 years. Making my dad proud to be a Musketeer; he was one year out of high school the last time they won in the playoffs. Coming into last year they were on a 26-game losing streak. Now they head south to get obliterated by TCC.

Grayson’s offense held the ball all but maybe a minute of the 1st quarter tonight. They run a wing -t and just grind out yards.

In the past 2 years Grayson is 3-0 vs 1AAAAA. Two of those wins coming against WR who did not make the playoff either year. They beat Lowndes last year. But they only beat WR 10-0 and they didn’t even make the playoffs, just saying. And that game was at Grayson… soooo…

KT where are you? Region 5 guy? Valdosta 34 Newnan 10 DavaoJeff,SGT Chris thanks for rooting for Valdosta but also saying you chose wrong… Valdosta is a “quality” team from region 1 much respect to their coach and team. Hope we see you ENR!!! and I like Newnan’s or Grayson’s chances (even at the MAC) first the winner of the MLK-Jenkins game tom.. then a probable Coin flip with the Rams…Way to go Cougars!!!!
BulldawgBite you called it on the Newnan “D” even the announcers said Valdosta did not play a better defense this year Valdosta only scored a field Goal on the Defense all night!!

Where are all the big talking Region 7AAAA people now — Region 6 took it to your teams tonight, with only your No. 1 seed barely escaping a home game against our No. 4 seed. Next time, prove it on the field.

haha ok the weak schedule for newnan comes from our region because every game but one of our games is a region game but next year we are supposed to be in a better region. Also the one non-region game we play is ALWAYS and has ALWAYS been LaGrange, weve played them for forever.Northside fans you guys have absolutely NO room to talk you guys scored 14 on Valdosta and barely slipped away 14-7, we won 28-9 so you cant bring up any of that crap. Newnan is as legit as any of the other top teams in 5A. We prove it every year that just because were from a weak region doesnt mean we wont be great. Also weve been this successful after losing every starter on offense and 6 starters on defense and a new coachand two of our starting lineman were out tonight.

So all you doubters out there. HAHAHAHAHA!! Once again thanks EVERYONE who was rooting for us tonight. Next week will be another tough one but if we can have a repeat of tonight then I’ll be saying hello round three! Congrats to all the other teams that one as well. One playoff game at time. i tried to warn em inthatrenches. i predicted that valdosta couldnt score more than 7 tonight against what i believe is the best defense in the state. although any team can play good or bad on a given day so i would take it one at a time. MLK’s running back is going to Florida so i would say he is your biggest obstacle next week. good luck to newnan though.

Ed: Like your comments. They were on here mouthing off like the teams from Region 6-AA shouldn’t even show up. Talk is cheap.

Here’s a note: Region 4-AAAA goes 2-2 and Region 6-AAAA is 3-1 after the first round. The wins by Region 6 teams were all double-digits, and Chamblee only loss by eight.

Peachtree Ridge would be able to handle Northside if we were able to play to our full capabilities. Unfortunately, we haven’t played an outstanding game since North Forsyth (our 4th game of the year), so I don’t think we will be Northside, it’s unfortunate, because this should’ve been the year we won it all.

you know what could happen? Region 1 AAAAA being locked out of the SEMi’s two years in a row ??? They looked good against the weaker teams in weaker regions but 2 teams may drop in the round of 16… Lowndes and Colquitt on upset alert???? what in the name of High school football is happened to the SEC of High schools??

inthatrenches its good to see that not every blogger on here has been infected by the koolaid served by region 1. i think northside has the best chance to make it to the semis but who knows. almost every team left is pretty good and capable of winning on a given night.

Just heard Micheal Carvell on 680 The Fan’s HSFB show, and man, is he a SWD homer! Holy cow! Says SWD will roll over everyone in the playoffs, including Griffin. He can think that, but if he thinks for a minute that SWD will just roll over Griffin, he has another thing coming. That is, if both teams make it that far.

I think 6-AAAAA did itself proud tonight. 2-2 (almost 3-1) against what was supposed to be a vastly superior region. Give some credit to the Kell Longhorns; they were 0-4 and reeled off six in a row before realizing that it is difficult to win football games with no offense. What they lacked in raw talent they made up for in resilience.

ENR , I read your halftime post on the Eagles..The last 4 min of the 1st the Eagles had a couple mistakes made ,allowing a 95 yd kick off return and a bad pass interference call on the Eagles hich set up the TD for Chapel hill ,but there wasn’t any doubt about the outcome , Chapel Hill had -16 yards on the ground at break…..The Eagles came out to play in the 2nd and wrapped it up….Masteller is back ,I think we’ll see more of him throwing the ball in the playoffs , he’s gonna have to spell Van Brunt on some plays ,much better passer……Surprised ,but okay with MaCeachern going down ,1st 3 rounds at the Mac now!

EagleNationRising: “Northside is not losing to a metro Atlanta program at the MAC.” I’ll write that one down, just in case :) Your “famous” cheeseburger stadium shouldn’t be the difference in a game, anyways.
And why all the hate for Peachtree Ridge? Can’t stomach a program that’s gone 10-2-1 in the playoffs and shared a championship in just 7 years of existence? Name another team besides Valdosta (south GA), Lincoln Co. (east GA) or Buford (north GA) that has averaged a championship every 7 years. Maybe you just can’t wrap your head around the fact that schools in every part of the state can play quality football.
And enough of that “silver spoon” crap; this isn’t a class issue, this is football. I would bet that almost all public schools have players that come from a variety of different backgrounds, and instead of touting that fact, they just go out and play like everyone else.

If you want to see horrible work from an officiating crew, look no further then the Kell-Peachtree Ridge game. I understand this is HS football, but never in my life have I seen such a badly callled game. I don’t know how they select refs for playoff games, but I hope for the integrity of the game that crew is not back on the field this fall. Kell should have had the upset, but since every official in the state seems to hate them they got screwed.

Want an example? someone tell me what you do in this situation when you are the ref. Right infront of you, a player from one team grabs another player by the facemask, slings him around and throws him a few yards. After the play is over. Personal foul, right? Well not tonight, apparently that is ok to do. I could go on and on about what went wrong, but I doubt anyone wants to here it. Way to go, refs, way to go.

94 Demon,
Last year I think Grayson went to WR and won. This year it was at Grayson and we won. Just saying…. ;)

ENR,
I was talking with a hard core football guy at the Grayson game tonight about about traveling and a coin toss. He said that since Grayson was both the number 1 seed AND undefeated that everyone would have to come to us. NSWR, Lowndes, Camdem, etc all have at least one loss. I don’t know and am not sure where to look if up. If anyone knows how that would work, I would love to hear it.

Fred, I have heard in the past GHSA doesnt care about records or rankings. In the playoffs, all they care about is your seed. Same seed = coin toss. I dont agree with this, but its what I remember happening in the past.

Help me out Grayson fans. Everytime I watch Grayson do they play to just beat their opponent? Watching Grayson play they only allow very low time of possesion and first downs. They only give up scores on big plays and special teams. Forget running on them. Just wondering how far that will take them.

Got to say congrats to Brookwood. Peeking at right time, can they pull off another miracle?

Reeze: I’m not saying a Gwinnett team is going to beat NSWR. I’m hoping they do, but I’m not going to try and predict the future. Look how that always turns out for Todd Holcombe
My point is that a McDonald’s-themed stadium doesn’t make you a champion, nor does trying to point out that your players are less privileged than others, and being from a specific part of the state certainly doesn’t.

I don’t know what to think about our game tonight. Marietta played very well! I know the question I posed earlier about playing a strong end of season vs an easy end of season was answered. We did not look sharp tonight at all. Marietta scored on a kick off return for a touchdown by blowing through our guys and then winning the footrace. Their other score was following a long pass where they didn’t win the footrace and they were then able to go ahead and punch the ball in. The rest of the night, we pretty well contained them. Ean broke a couple of long runs even with his shoulder injured. The offensive time of possesion was lopsided in our favor again.

Normally I agree with not running the score up excessively but I really think our clock managment tonight stunk! I have to wonder if all those games of not pushing hard are coming back to haunt us. I realize when we were up 21-7 that we just were then grinding out the yardage and controlling the clock but darn!

End result is we won and move on to the next round. Maybe this was our wake-up game that other teams’ single loss for the season provided. I sure hope so. I don’t want to seem like I am dwn on the team because I’m not. Still planning on see y’all at the Dome! :)

jcwfalcon selflessly volunteers himself as yet another example of how not to go about analyzing football. Why do you feel the need to talk about your opinion of the players’ backgrounds? And why do you feel yourself an expect when you have no direct knowledge about the situation? Do you have a demographic poll of Gwinnett County football players to share with us? How about you respect the players for the effort they show out on the field, no matter where they may come from.

Went to Newnan-Valdosta tonight. Not very impressed with Newnan in 1st half, especially on offense. Defensively, very good. Valdosta scored on a kick return & on a short field after Newnan held inside their 5 yard line. Valdosta started that possession on the Newnan 38 & kicked a FG.
Alec gets all the attention, but Zander is no slouch.
Early Predictions 2nd Round AAAAA.

Lowndes over Camden
P’Tree Ridge over Brookwood (sorry BROOKWOOD MOM)
Newnan over MLK
Grayson over Roswell
North Gwinnett over Woodstock
NSWR over Union Grove (sorry GO UG!)
Lassiter over South Gwinnett (the over/under is 90)
Stephenson over Colquitt

Props to 1-AA for getting the sweep tonight.
