Well, went to Grayson game. Pemberton got hurt and I saw their D 1 defensive end limping around and playing offense? Not looking good right now for Grayson losing those impact players. Good news is their offense, as boring as it is grinds that clock down and moves the chains still. And when they have to, they have a passing game.

OMG! The Atlanta Hawks just beat the Boston Celtic in Boston. I saw them play last weekend when they beat Denver. These guys are going to be good this season.

North Gwinnett 52
Centennial 21

North receivers dropped 4 long passes in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, where the ball hit the receivers right on the hands. 3 of them were wide open for touchdowns had the receiver caught the ball.

Centennial was completely ineffective on offense until a minute to go in the first half. They swapped to an I formation with a wing and a wide receiver on the same side as the wing. North’s defense was clearly confused by this “old” offense and defenders had no idea about their responsibilities. Centennial ran a triple option out of this formation. The dive play went for 20 yards, then the QB scored on the second play as the DT went inside, the old went for the fake dive, and the CB covered the tailback for the pitch. The QB waltzed for around 40 yards for a TD.

In the 3rd quarter Centennial again ran the “I” with a wing. North stopped the dive, but again the CB took the tail back and the OLB went inside for the dive. QB got 2 long gains, and then Centennial scored when nobody covered the tailback going through the fullback’s hole. Classic “I” offense. 14 points for Centennial in 5 plays. Later in the 3rd Quarter, Centennial tried it again and again the North LB’s failed to contain the QB on the keeper in the triple option.

Basically, Centennial ran exactly the same plays they had been running from the Wing T, but North was confused about the defensive responsibilities. After coach explained it to them Centennial was stuffed in the “I”, and they never did get anything in the Wing T.

North got over the dropped passes in the second half and moved the ball at will, both on the ground and in the air. Uzomah still appears a little gimpy but the O-Line gave him plenty of time, and it just was not an issue.

Centennial simply did not have 5 DB to cover the receivers and someone was always open. If Uzmoah checked through the first 3 without an opening he pulled the ball down and gained substantial yardage on the ground.

A big D-line simply makes no difference against this offense. They will move the ball around the perimeter. If the defense spreads out, North runs blasts until the defense stacks in again. This is a pretty good team. Uzomah threw the ball on a rope 30 to 40 yards several times with pinpoint accuracy. Somebody is open on every play. There were a few “wounded ducks”, several dropped passes, and a TD that was called incomplete on a bad call where the ref was screen from the play before the receiver went out. None of it mattered.

I would have a betting line around Lowndes by 4 at the Dome. I think Lowdnes is a better football team than Northside this year, but Northside is certainly up to the challenge of giving Lowndes all they can handle.

jcwfalcon. you can say the same for almost any good program ranked in the top 10. the vikings would destroy northside if it was in lowndes and they really shouldve beaten you at the mac. ENR is already building up excuses so that when northside loses he can say that they were a young team comprised of sophmores and juniors lol.

I was watching the Hawks too ENR. It was great to see the Hawks come away with the W in Boston. The Hawks did the only thing they could when you cant go get a Kobe or LeBron—they added several more guys who are 6th men but could start for many teams.

The Sit in the Corner because your Region is Suspect Award goes to teams from Region 4-AAAAA and Region 5-AAAAA. Both regions went 1-3 in the first round of the playoffs. We all know that Region 3-AAAAA went 1-3 as well. The difference is most of Region 3-AAAAA is playing up.

Region 1-AAAAA, Region 8-AAAAA both went 3-1. While North Gwinnett loves to beat their chests, Region 7-AAAAA went 2-2.

The Round of 16 is set. This is going to be fun. Good luck to everyone next week.

Bulldawg bite- being ranked in the top 10 doesnt “happen.” Lowndes “should have won at NHS. If we want to play the “should” card the Eagles “should” have beaten the Demons. In the end you either did or you didnt. Anything is possible, but I dont see anyone “destroying” Northside anywhere.

and I dont think ENR is setting it up for a loss. Hes just telling it like it is…and has been in that regard most of the season. I was back in WR visiting in early September and talking to a few folks on the Northside staff, and they all said they dont look bad but arent nearly as good as they have been. They said expect 3 losses. These are the same people who usually tell it like it is. If they see a championship coming, they arent afraid to say it. Anyone who has followed Northside football over the last 4 or 5 years knows, and is thankful, this team is playing above their pay grade this year and overachieving. The last few weeks have shown that. They have been played close for 3 or 4 quarters by opponents they would be up on big at halftime. Northside is very beatable. They could lose next week..but then they are at home..so its unlikely. :)

Pemberton was hurt but came back in and took some shots but got up fine, even had about a 70 yard run, didnt see champaign limping but i just have a feeling conn didnt wanna put any unneccesary plays on film for roswell. it seemed they played to not lose rather than to win

BulldawgBite: Again, please name the program that is going to beat Northside before the State Semifinals. Northside hosts Union Grove at McConnell-Talbert Stadium on Friday night. We then host the winner of the Peachtree Ridge/Brookwood game. I will happily entertain anyone who believes that either three of those programs is going to get on a bus for three hours and beat ANY Northside team at the MAC.

You are blogging about Northside losing. Name the team that is going to beat us. I can tell you that you will be lucky to make it past Woodstock. It is no secret that I believe that most metro Atlanta high school football is a joke. I am not going to stick my neck out for another soft metro Atlanta program. I will tell you this. I expect Lowndes County yo go on the road and beat Camden County. Then, I expect you to be on this board proclaiming that Lowndes County is the best team on earth when the Vikings travel to North Gwinnett and violate your silver spooned kids up at NG. NG is not nearly athletic enough to compete against a program like Lowndes.

Like Peachtree Ridge, you will be exposes (on your own field) by Lowndes. You will then jump on the LCHS bandwagon. You are a funny guy. Don’t forget to tell us which mediocre Atlanta program is going to beat Northside at the MAC. Which one? Union Grove? Peachtree Ridge? Brookwood? Neither have a prayer.

I agree 84.

Its too bad Houston County is growing and cares about their education more than anything…so they keep building more high schools (that five public now for our little county). Lowndes County, on the other hand…football first- education second!

5,000 students?- throw up some more trailers in the back. The football team is too good to split this group up! *poke* ;)

Note: I actually know nothing about any of this. Just taking a shot.

1-5-A-Fan, alot of the players and parents have lost respect for Coach Eldridge and the way some players didn’t play a single down all year. Just the same old BS. You don’t build a team by not playing everyone. Some parents quit going after 4 or 5 games because of that. Fans were mad as he%$.

Valdosta what was your score again??? Don’t worry about your cross town rivals that took it to you.
Title – You are taking those same recreational drugs. How far North did you travel this year to play anyone? We don’t draw the lines up here someone else does and we just keep knocking it out. New coach and lost the entire offense from last year, and we still went undefeated. Last time I was down I think Newnan took it to Northside in the playoffs and didn’t we lose the the state champ last year and the year prior? I live in VA, but I keep up with the real high school action back home because they don’t play ball up here.

84Viking: It has been really fun football. I loved going down to Martin Stadium last year. On the other hand, I completely agree with our AD/Head Football Coach Conrad Nix. I just do not get programs that play up. It does not benefit the majority of the school’s programs. It usually just benefits one group of athletes.

The truth of the matter is Northside’s biggest games are against programs like Warner Robins, Peach County, Westside (Macon), and Baldwin. We will play Houston County and get another big local game with a new high school in Veteran’s HS.

I know that the gate has not bossted dramatically in Region 1-AAAAA. I believe this is because of the distance between the schools. With the exception of Lowndes County, the visitor attendance has been terrible. We have had programs like Habersham-Central and Marist, who bring many, many more fans than programs like Valdosta, Colquitt County, Tift County, and Coffee.

It just does not make financial or logical sense to force all of our student-athletes and other State Championship programs like One Act, Debate/Forensics, and Literary to compete in Region 1-AAAAA.

Perhaps, Coach Nix and Coach McPherson will look to continue to play one another. They are two of the best programs in the state and the games have been great! Good luck to the Vikings in Kingsland. The Wildcats are very good. People spend so much time bashing their region (I was one of them). Heck, those guys play hard-nosed football and are always good.

i think most any team would have trouble with woodstock i am not denying that they are a good team but i believe we will beat them. im not gonna look past that game right now but NG is capable of beating any team.

TitleTownBaby: I am well aware. :-) That is why winning your region is very important. Beating Lowndes County at the MAC was HUGE! Now, we are very fortunate to host metro Atlanta prgrams at our place. I can assure you that neither one of those programs on our side have ever played and won at a place like McConnell-Talbert.

We still can not relax here at Northside. It is a matter of fact that this is our most inexperienced and weakest talent (as a group) in over five years. Nonetheless, they are resilient. They are also a little scatter-brained and struggle staying focused through 4 quarters.

I honestly expect our guys to reach the Georgia Dome. I don’t know how when I see our team on paper. They just keep scrapping. The McEachern loss is big for us. I saw McEachern and I know that they were athletic enough to match us. I have no seen Brookwodd. I lose no sleep over either Union Grove (”Dancing Band Theory”) or Peachtree Ridge.

Well I was wrong on the Newnan/Valdosta prediction, but I guess McEachern found out its ALWAYS tough to beat the same team twice in the same season!! Carver BARELY escaped Burke County 28-21 in what was a hard hitting game..Isaiah Crowell had two TDs rushing and Devin Burns scored the game-winner on a 72 yd QUARTERBACK SNEAK. Burke drove to the Carver 10 but the last play of the game was an INT by Carver.

Jcwfalcon: If Northside plays Grayson, the location of the game is not predetermined. Both teams are top seeds from their region. Therefore, the game is decided by a coin toss. Northside has regularly won those coin tosses. How, I do not know. I have always believed it was divine intervention. Grayson may have to travel to McConnell-Talbert. If the seeds are the same, it is decided by a coin toss.

Big J: Yes, I am going on record. Union Grove is a dead team walking! It is officially “Get Your Basketball Shoes” week at Union Grove High School. Football season is over. The trip from Union Grove High School to McConnell-Talbert Stadium on South Davis Drive in Warner Robins is UG’s Green Mile. UG is on death row.

Northside is not losing to a metro Atlanta program at the MAC. I do not mean to disrespect Union Grove. I am sure there are some fine players there. However, you can forget about UG beating our Eagles at the MAC. Period

Thanks for the info ENR. Either way, I would make it to watch that game. If its near Alpharetta, its convenient for me to go into that office for a Friday. If its in Warner Robins- I plan to go back and spend some time with the fam and the little lady.

Grayson looks great based on ranking and the scores I have seen, so I would expect it to be an epic game. However, I honestly know NOTHING about Grayson. I dont even know their colors and mascot, much less what kind of offense they run, their strengths, or who their D1 prospects are. I would consider going to the game educational. ;)

yes 94 demon we got killed by lowndes that year. they were a better team than us. period. we had an easy bracket and crusied through it. we had to go to lowndes which i think could be the toughest place to play in for high school and lost badly. our high powered offense sputtered behind our over rated qb mikey tamburo. his performance was awful. he could not throw in the rain period whether it was at lowndes or anywhere we always lost in the rain because he could not throw it. even if it hadnt been raining though lowndes was a better team that year. and that was 2 years ago. both teams could very well play in 2 weeks and it should be a good game if it does happen

I don’t think it is very nice for 4 to 5 guys to jump on BullDawgBites, just because he is not drinking the 1AAAAA KoolAid.

NSWR got an easier path when GHSA swapped the brackets. Colquitt squeaked by this week. And Lowndes still has to get past Camden. Let’s just play the games and see how it unfolds.

But Gwinnett County did fairly well. Dacula lost. And Collins Hill took the #2 seed from Division 5AAAAA to 2 overtimes before losing. Looks like Roswell played well, and also got a bit of luck. But Gwinnett’s winners included: Grayson, South Gwinnett, Brookwood, Buford, Wesleyan, North Gwinnett, and Peachtree Ridge. Way to go Gwinnett County! 7 – 2
