You know what? With that being said above, I agree with you. No Excuses. You are absolutely right. Bradwell Institute got just what they deserved for the way they played. They got themselves hammered, embarrassed, and I am sure that those players and Coach from Bradwell Institute will remember the night they came to Clarkston to play against a very good Stephenson Team. Yes I did. Well They seem to be a fast team. They don’t seem very big like Bradwell Institute front line is. But I believe they have a shot. Now it not about the players that can or will win this Class AAAAA State Title. At this stage of the game, it will be about who can execute better and how will the Coaches do. You see, your team can have more talent but can lose to being out Coached. I will tell you this, example: Camden County’s Coach Jeff Herron is brilliant. He can and will out Coach you if he see something suspect about your team. He knows how to win. He has been there 3 times and have three State Titles. in this decade. That says a lot. But you al, will face Region1-AAAAA Colquitt County Packers. They are a very good football team. Personally, I don’t think Stephenson will beat Colquitt County but this is Georgia Football in the post season when football is at it’s best. Anyone can be beaten. You all will have execute very well on your offense and play penalty free to have a chance on beating Colquitt County. Now that Region 3-AAAAA Bradwell Institute is out as I expected due to 12 injured starters, I am focusing on the County team, Region 3-AAA Liberty County who has advanced to the 2nd Round after beating LaGrange last night.

I know as we get deeper into the playoffs and the competition gets stronger you tell me what you think of Stephenson Jaguars in your opinion? Valdosta Daily Times

If Valdosta does move down, it would end up in a region (likely 1-AAAA) with Thomas County Central (1562), Bainbridge (1578) and Lee County (1735), and possibly central Georgia schools Jones County (1593.5), Harris County (1565), Columbus (1506), Upson-Lee (1435.5) and the three Warner Robins schools. That would be the most spread out region in the GHSA.
Region 1-AAAAA will also be waiting to see what the Savannah-area schools do. Only one school from the current Region 3-AAAAA is actually big enough to be a legitimate AAAAA school (Camden County is the seventh-largest high school in the state, with 2,876.5 students). But the public schools in the Savannah area – which have the size of AAA and AAAA schools – have long petitioned to play in AAAAA. If those schools continue to stay in AAAAA, Region 3 will remain much the same. But if they don’t, Camden could be forced to move to Region 1, creating many long trips for the school’s athletic teams.
The classification numbers were calculated by averaging enrollments at a school from the 2008-09 and 2009-10 school years.
The class assignments will not be finalized until later this month, when the GHSA will hear requests from schools that wish to play in higher classifications than the ones they are assigned to. The GHSA will assign teams to regions in December.

That’s an option but the schools with 2500+ will have an evident advantage over those teams…no need to add teams that don’t have a chance at winning just to fill up the region roster…wouldn’t be fair to them. But it’s already that way though…being that school officials can choose to play up. I think we should play some of those nationally ranked teams out of miami and texas.

I think the GHSA should lower the FTE threshhold in AAAAA to 1800. Then we could keep Valdosta and the 3 Houston County teams. It would also keep Stephenson in AAAAA along with a total of about 16 teams with enrollment between 1800 and 1900.

I agree about playing more Atl teams, iattb. Or maybe Bernes of SC, Prattville, etc. But with gas and deisel costs being what they are, not sure schools would want to add that much more travel costs. Heck our school board wouldn’t even approve a pressbox renovation. At Lowndes football pays for itself, and the band seems to be able to raise travel money, but I think the school system still pays for the buses, drivers, and fuel costs.
Some other region schools don’t have the resources we do at Lowndes, and they don’t sell 5000 season reserved seats for football games like we do. It looks to me like we’ll have a 5 team region with four of’em making the playoffs. It’s gonna be real hard to make schedules. Most teams don’t want to travel all the way to South Georgia to play football.

I posed the question because i believe the 3 Warner Robins teams will play down…as a result we’ll either add some teams or have a small region. I guess the GHSA has a written way of dealing with it…but seems to me a smaller region makes more room for non-region games (ATL teams)…we need more of that on the schedule.

Sportsfan31313 – the Brunswick schools will be AAAA won’t they? I know Brunswick will. Could they be combined with BI and some of the Savannah schools to form a region of AAAA schools? I see where Windsor is really AAA, but they could play up to AAAA better than playing up to AAAAA. I saw where Ware County and Statesboro will be AAA, but they could elect to play up in a region like I’m talking about. Just saying…..That’d sure leave Camden out in the cold. Maybe they can work something out with DUVAL COUNTY. (ha ha)

Imatitletownbaby – Unless the GHSA changes its rules, Camden can not play in Region1 AAAAA because a school can not travel more than 100 miles on a day when they have classes the next day. Classifications are for all sports. Baseball, basketball, girls softball, soccer, track, ect all have games on Tuesdays. Camden could not do that. The closest region 1-AAAAA school to Camden is Coffee County, 102 miles away.

I’m sure if it was left up to the schools, Northside and Warner Robins would choose to play “UP.” But the Supt and School Board look at economics of travel costs for all sports, not just football. They will make the decisionfor Northside and WR, as well as for Houston County. (The county seat and supt’s office are located in Perry, GA.not in Warner Robins. That’s where the political power is)

HomeFieldAdvantage: Sorry to hear about Tyler Hunter. I saw the new classifications as well & have several questions. 1) What will be done with the Columbus schools (Hardaway & Northside-Columbus)? Will they be put in a region with Newnan, East Coweta, Westlake, Langston Hughes?
Or, will the Warner Robins schools play up & be put with the 2 Columbus schools as they were years ago in the old Region 2. 2. What about Camden? I know this, unless some teams decide to play up, the non-metro Atlanta schools will be at a definite travel disadvantage.
Re Brookwood-McEachern: Brookwood needs to play ball control & keep the game low scoring to have their best chance to win. Same with Etowah against South Gwinnett.

I think all the teams that are in the playoffs are great or they would not be there. I would still like to see the GHSA use the schools with more and better seating capacities. It is truly a joke when a team that averages over 10,000 fans at its games can only have a few thousand in the playoffs. I am not saying that we are better but we do love our football in South Georgia. Maybe the smaller stadium schools could play on a neutral site close to their school. This would be the fairest way for everyone. Our band alone, has to have 13 school buses, a semi, and a large utility trailer for traveling. I do know that if we had beat NSWR, we would be at home except for the stupid coin toss they use after the 2nd round. I still want to wish everyone the best of luck and I hope every player stays healthy for all the playoffs.

I counted 52 AAAAA schools in the new classes that just came out. I realize a few schools will choose to “play up.” Should we really continue having 32 make the playoffs?
There are 89 in AAAA, and 88 in AAA and AA. I counted 110 Class A schools but I’m sure some do not have athletic treams. Why the disparity in the number of schools between AAAAA and AAAA, AAA, and AA?

In the AAAAA playoffs this year, we have 23 AAAAA teams, 8 AAAA teams, and one AAA team. I ask again, do we really need 32 teams in the playoffs?

Im a Title Town fan…but i gotta admit…Grayson has a great defense with the likes of Joseph Champaign..Terry Williams (he’s a beast)…big shawn Greene in the middle…and Kory Gaims at safety. Everybody in the state knows Ean Pemberton…but I like the backup running back Devin Gillespie…who’s only a sophomore…that kid can run! The quarter and semifinal games will be very interesting on that side of the bracket. Lowndes will be awaitng for whoever in the championship game.

yo, they have 11 defensive starters returning which is exactly what inthatrenches said. they were outstanding last year and played a bad game against camden who played their best game. i still think that their defense is better than any others in AAAAA. i know you dont like hearing anybody speak against your region 1AAAAA but this defense is better than any other teams. what defense in 1AAAAA do you think is better? northside who gave up 21 points in 1 quarter. lowndes is probably the best defense in region 1. i still give the edge to newnan though. just because i dont agree with you doesnt mean you have to get on my case right?

Trust me; we Lowndes fans are definitely not assuming that Camden will be a cakewalk. Heck, any team can lose on any given night and we better be ready for E Coweta. The Northside loss was a good wake up call for our boys, though, I agree with someone else who said NS has gotten several lucky breaks on ref calls. And Good Luck to Valdosta! I’m not normally a fan but after the way Tomberlin was done, I hope ya’ll win all the way till you meet Lowndes again. Then I have to pull for the Vikes, of course!

Obviously and Etowah Fan, but I truly believe this will be one of the most contested games on the board. Etowah’s strength is running the ball, behind a senior laden O-line with one (Clemson), possibly two D-1 commits.
The key in my eyes is to contain South Gwinnett’s passing game, and not give up the big play. The defense is much improved over the course of the season. Keeping the game close going into the fourth quarter, gives Etowah a chance to wear down South’s defense and grind out a victory.
Score prediction tomorrow.

Buford is still the best football team in the state of Georgia. In this past decade who has the most wins out of any teams in the state of georgia.??Buford Wolves! This team is full of weapons. With the emerging of wide receives Sherman Page and Tyshawn Holley and a outstanding quarterback with Alex Ross. Buford has the best offensive line leading the way is Duvon Milsap and All-American Kolton Houston. Also on defense its stacked upfront. ATTENTION ALL EAST COWETA FANS: When you arrive at Martin Stadium Friday, all of you are invited to walk over to the WEST side of the stadium (along side of I-75) and visit (eat) at the row of tail gaters set up and cooking ribs, steaming oysters, hamburgers hotdogs, chili, chicken, etc. You are all invited. We really are nice people and would love to have you visit and talk. Beats the heck out of going to restaurants before the game.

The stadium is located on I-75 between exits 16 and 18. You can get to the stadium from either exit. The school and stadium are located between I-75 and Norman drive, which runs parallel to I-75. You will enter the parking areas from Norman Drive.

If you get off I-75 at exit 18 turn east, travel past Lowes and Longhorns’s Steah House, and turn right onto Norman Drive. You will be directed how to enter the parking area. You can also exit I-75 at exit 16, turn east for approx 1/4 mile, turn left on Norman Drive beside a McDonalds. The stadium is approx 1/2 mile on your left.

Tailgaiting starts as soon as the students exit school (cir 3:15pm). Drive safely, and do come over to our side and visit. May you also have a safe journey home.

Lowndes is now number three in the AP AAAAA poll. Ahead of Newnan by 7 points. Beating a really, really good Warner Robins team 31-17 must have helped. Especially when you consider the B-Team scored the last TD for Lowndes, and gave up the last TD to Warner (9 players on defense for Lowndes blocks a WR punt and scores).

High School Football Fan, you need help. Northside will roll this weekend. Next week will be tougher, Union Grove is solid, but the Eagles will win that one also. Your Lowndes Vikings are the ones who could be looking ahead. You should win anyway, but keep your eye on what’s right in front of you. Camden is very tough at home, as you will find out next week. If there’s an upset brewing, it will be there.

While success breeds success and a long term winning program will draw kids into the area, the turnover in kids will of necessity change the caliber of the team. Brookwood and Parkview are good examples – while still great teams they are not the dominate forces they were earlier this decade. Talking about how good they were then has little bearing on how good they are now. Not picking on them, I just know a little more about them than other programs.

Must be a tough week at Collins Hill when all they can complain about is officiating a few years ago as to why they lost to Roswell. How about talking about relevant things like blocking, tackling, good athletes, special teams , disciplined football, ect. As a roswell fan, I have not seen Collins Hill this year but must respect the fact that they are 9-2 no matter who they played. I expect roswell to bounce back after having a few key players out on defense against lassitter; though the way Hutson Mason was playing they would not have likely beat them last Friday. Other than Charles Perkins, does anyone know about thier passing game, defense and special teams ? I expect Roswell to win friday night. Please, Collins Hill fans, stop crying about officials calls from 2-3 years ago as a reason for losing. I believe that thu a 4 quarter game, even at the high school level, kids should be able to execute and minimize mistakes and not hang your head on “officiating”. Go Roswell!!

Yo You’re right the vaunted Newnan D could not play offense or special teams and certainly could not have taped the ball to Russell Powell or Keandreas Wynn Newnan’s Defense was not the problem the offense had a misersable night and Camden took advantage of short fields and that is what state champs do…besides that is 08 (many acolades to the state champs)we have our defense back (all 11) we have an excellent O-line with a very good run game we may not score as much but we smother alot… here…Kitty Kitty

The defense for Newnan is one of the best, but EC exposed the reality…these are high school boys, whose emotions and hormone levels add a substantial element to the game, thus affecting it’s outcomes. Points can be scored on any defense. Newnan will need some big plays…the earlier the better. I am afraid this will be the only way that Newnan wins decisively. I do agree with the So. GA faithful (faithful in a cult-ish sense) that it will probably end up being a close game, where I still like Newnan, but it could obviously go either way. Remember that the Ogletree brothers are not just a headline; they are game breakers and clutch performers…in an number of sports.
Last year’s Newnan/Camden Co. match-up is irrelevant, since both teams are very different from a year ago, and it is highly unlikely that they will play each other this year.

The Lowndes loss to NSWR has made them a better team. Much like the loss to Ware County before winning state in 2007. NSWR was very fortunate beating Valdosta who missed five field goals to lose a close game, beating Lowndes who had a winning touchdown called back as time expired, stopping Colquitt’s winning drive with incompetent officials making the worst call of the year. Then losing to a non-playoff team in WR. They have used up thier three wishes. I wish them luck and hope for a 1-AAAAA sweep. They could easily be at home with a 6-4 record. They have excellent athletes and great coaching but they better not be overconfident with thier record. Just saying………….

Newnan plays who it has to play they dont make the region.Newnan use to play in a region with LaGrange,Griffin,forrest park,morrow etc.All metro counties grew all the regions changed.I can walk out my front door and within 20 min be at Newnan,EC,Northgate,Starsmill,Mcintosh,fayett county,sandycreek,Creekside,Landmark,whitewater,Mundysmill,Lovejoy,Greenville and Im sure I missed a few.The talent up here is more spread out,but we do have talent.Ecoweta has three players starting in the NFL today.Dont over look these teams,better yet do overlook these teams,and they will hit you in the mouth.

Lowndes loss to NSWR makes it tougher on opponents(remember ware co loss in 2007). While I would love to see a 1-AAAAA sweep, I think NSWR is ripe for an upset. Tell it like it is…Tellitlikeitis. That’s a pretty absurd comment about Newnan “choking” against south GA teams. Two losses to Camden, yes, but do you forget that in the 2003 playoffs Newnan faced Colquitt Co. in the first round and NS Warner Robins in the second rd…before losing to the State Champs-to-be, Camden, at the dome. Did I mention that Newnan blanked the 2nd ranked Northside team 24-0…at the “feared” MAC. At the Dome (against Camden) Newnan played without its most recruited receiver and their number 2 receiver pulled his hamstring during the first offensive drive. This was a year that Newnan started 4 receivers with what was arguably AAAAA’s most prolific passing offense to date. Despite the injuries (which just so happened to follow a playoff schedule comprised of Colquitt, no.2 NSWR at the MAC, and no.3 Parkview at/in “The Jungle,” where they had been undefeated during the three previous seasons…all of which they took the title) Newnan was in the lead through half-time, but the damage due to those injuries was too much for Newnan to overcome. Camden had the most athletic team in the state (hell, probably the country) and they won the game on neutral turf by a touchdown, I believe. I know that they played VALDOSTA, at Valdosta, in the championship. I cannot remember the score…but I know that the differential was greater than that of Camden/Newnan.

(I know it’s VSU now, but then it was VSC without football.) We were hoping the Demons would play Newnan since my wife is a Demon grad (’77), However, we learn to deal with disappointment. Provided that I can get out of Hartsfield at a decent time, (my wife has a flight due to arrive at 5:30) I am hoping to make kickoff, but will look both of you up at the game.
