Got rankings, got draws, got predictions, got it all.
Let’s go class by class:
AAAAA: The first round is a snooze, but the second round will be the most exciting I’ve ever seen, headlined by Lowndes vs. Camden County. Check it out below. I’m picking Lowndes to win the title, but I’m probably going to be wrong. Just too many good teams, too many realistic possibilities, to hook your wagon to one horse. I can see the Gwinnett County vs. Region 1-AAAAA rivalry heating up. It might be played out in the final (Lowndes vs. North Gwinnett or Northside vs. Grayson). Or we could see a Lowndes-Northside final. Or Grayson-North Gwinnett. Then there are the four teams that I don’t feel great about individually, but love them as a group because at last one figures to break through. Those are Lassiter, McEachern, Newnan and Stephenson. Note that Lassiter or Stephenson will make the semifinals if there are no upsets.
AAAA: No. 1 Griffin and No. 2 Southwest DeKalb have separated themselves, IMO, and I see them settling it in the final.
AAA: No. 1 Gainesville and No. 2 Carver of Columbus have separated themselves too, but can’t meet in the final because the draw is not set up that way. And unlike AAAA, this class has major third wheel in Peach County. Gainesville should face Peach in the quarterfinals and Carver in the semifinals. The coin flips for home-field advantage when those region champs meet will be big. Meanwhile, Baldwin is a hot team with a nice draw to the final. Not so high on St. Pius after last week.
AA: No. 1 Calhoun vs. No. 2 Fitzgerald in the quarterfinals? Wow. … A coin toss would decide which is the home team. Meanwhile, Buford has a sweet draw despite getting only the #2 seed in Region 6-AA. The only game I could see Buford losing until the final is a semifinal at Jefferson County, which has a great player in BJ Bostic.
A: No. 1 Wesleyan has a much better draw than No. 2 Savannah Christian. Look for Twiggs County to make the final.
Predictions … I’m putting asterisks by upsets that I couldn’t quite bring myself to predict.

Warhawk,
Thanks for the list! I checked it out and if my search results were the same as yours (Newsweek), these schools are all in the top 5% of high schools nationally. That is a pretty good achievement if you ask me. What is even more cool is that a large number of the schools in the football playoffs are on the list!

Warhawk and Fred (and Todd and the Blog Police): This is a football blog, not a forum for academic achievement. Yeah, yeah, I know they are student athletes, but please take your crusade to a more productive and appropriate forum. A few others and I were warned about getting off track (or in my case, getting ON eaglenationrising!) … where are you Blog Policeman?!
We all care about the academic achievement of our student athletes, and you might be surprised to learn that many of these posting here have advanced degrees and hold high positions of achievement in their various fields. Others can’t write worth spit, but they have the right to their opinion and each contributes something in their own way. It’s all in fun anyway, and most of us appreciate the opportunity the AJC gives us to hoop and holler with, for and against each other in a way that was never before possible.
Now, about that list you gave us … I don’t see too many (if any) state football champions there.

goober, do you suppose EagleNationRising was “warned too” by the Blog Police? He has disapeared the last week or so. I don’t blame them if they did, the way he constantly put other teams down and went on and on in a very negative way about almost every other blogger who dared write anything about their teams. Just saying………..

I was at the game (always) so I knew that what happened with Orta last week. I didn’t know if the comment meant that he would only play defense in this week’s game, or if he was referring only to last weeks game. I’ll let you know if my daughters (LHS students) come home with any information. Of course that has a tendency to be spiked with a lot of drama and not always very reliable

Sportsfan31313- I’m predicting Camden will put at least 50 on Newton. Also, I really have a strange feeling that Valdosta will beat Newnan. The Cats are playing good ball now. And they have a defense equally as good as Newnan’s. Sorry but I think Union Grove will take your region’s 2nd place team Windsor. And Hinesville’s finest may have a long sad journey home from Stephenson. Hope I’m wrong on both of those last two.
I look for Lowndes to have a good game, but like Bradwell, we are missing some very good starters.

Ha ha Goober – yeah Todd’s for real. I met him and helped him park, enter the stadium, and got him a spot in the press box last year when Northside played Lowndes at Martin.
Not sure about ENR though. I can’t believe anybody can be so negative. If he’s such a fan, why did he leave Northside’s game with Warner at the end of the 3rd quarter. I wonder if he left at half time in 99? I have ALWAYS stayed till the game was over, win or lose. If our kids are on the field, I’ll be in Section A, Row 17, seat 12. Have been for 39 years, same seat.

Interesting list WarHawk. At a glance I think all of the 7AAAAA and 8AAAAA schools are on that list except North Forsyth and Shiloh. But I don’t see any 1AAAAA schools on the list. No wonder private goober doesn’t want to talk about it.
Which reminds me:
You know what a 1AAAAA football player calls an 8AAAAA football player 5 years after they both stop playing football? – Boss.
You know how to get a 1AAAAA graduate off your porch? – Pay him for the pizza.
Even gives me some ideas for new football cheers:
We paid attention in our classes,
We passed our English Lit
We’ll have decent jobs
While you are shovelling sh..
Maybe we can have some new age football cheers waiting for Lowndes … if they make it to Suwanee.

Newnan does not stand a chance against Valdosta. Not only is our offense better than Newnan’s but our defense is significantly superior to Newnan’s heralded and overrated defense. All Newnan has is the Ogletrees after them Newnan is nothing. We are from the SEC of georgia high school football and you guys are like the Mountain West or Big Ten. You are the one way overrated team that plays nobody like TCU or Cincinnati and youll go undefeated after beating all nobody teams then get whipped in a bowl. Newnan will be one and done and South Georgia will prove again that the only real football in the state comes from down here

Im interested in seeing what Valdosta will do…with the shuffle of position duties and the new offensive formations they ran last week…one has to be optimistic about Valdostas chance for an upset. If they portion the ran with Chad Prain, Reggie McQueen, Darshay March, and Dharod Hall…and mix in some passes to Jay Rome, Malcolm Mitchell, and Dontavious Sapp…I think they can win. If the offense can score on Newnan’s defense that will be the key…because Valdosta’s defense will do their job.

Dr. Goober,
I disagree with your post a little bit as I do think the two are related. I am proud that GA football is as strong as it is and that many of the players are scholars as well. As a long time Ga Tech fan, I fully appreciate the effort to study hard and excel in sports at the same time.
I am not surprised in the least that there are holders of advanced degrees and those that have exceled in their areas that participate in these blogs. The analysis offered by many is in most cases well thought out and mostly presented well. There are a few that I have a hard time following due to grammar or punctuation (or lack of) but even those once I parse through them generally make good cases. Heck, I can’t spell and my typing skills leave much to be desired.
I respect anyone that accumulated knowledge in any area, whether it be high school football or particle physics!
I do think Suwanee 0wnz might have crossed the line as I firmly believe in talking football and not belittling players, coaches and other bloogers. I recognize the jokes as being recycled from discussions about two of the intitutions of higher learning in our state but still probably not appropriate for this forum.
Anyway, my intention was not to hijack the blog but mearly to add the extra dimension and praise. See you in the dome!

Oh well. The poem was original. The rest probably comes from a bit of frustration at work. I got the company payroll submitted in time for Friday, but it cannot be processed in time because the banks are closed today. Pains me when people are counting on me.
AJC should probably remove the post. I have no ability to do so.
I can say of the 160 teams in the GHSA playoffs, only 5 are going to win it all. The other 155 teams are NOT losers. Not only will they give us some great football, hopefully their schools are doing a good job of giving them an education. Football is only a small part of what High Schools should do for their communities and students.
Way more kids who set a goal of becoming a doctor or engineer will succeed in that goal than the kids who set a goal of becoming a pro football player. All of us should encourage kids to work hard in school, regardless of their football acumen.

Greetings HomeFieldAdvantage,
If Windsor Forest beats Union Grove, it will again shock every region in the State Of Georgia. Region 3-AAAAA are 0-5 in the post season playoffs. The only two to ever Advance in this region was Camden County and Bradwell Institute.
And I may not agree with you that Lowndes will score 50 points on East Coweta, they will score 60 points. 35 points by Halftime. Lowndes 35 East Coweta 0 at halftime.
I;m hoping for the win for Bradwell Institute. Bradwell is 12-11 in the playoffs advancing.

For the Valdosta vs Newnan game, it’s still a hard one to call. Newnan is a great good football team but then Valdosta is not a push over either. The who ever scores first will more than likely win. because of the momentum. It’s a toss up to me. But if Valdosta wins it will be a total sweep. When was the last time a Region did total sweep in the first round?
