The Georgia High School Football Daily’s Weekend Predictions: Who’s winning and losing in Week Eleven

By CHIP SAYE
For the AJC

Since the start of the 1995 season, the Brookwood-Parkview rivalry has been the best in metro Atlanta and one of the best in the state. In that time, the Gwinnett County schools have combined for 12 region championships, many of which came directly at the expense of the other. They have combined for five state championships, including the 2002 game in which Parkview beat Brookwood 28-7 in the final.

This year they add a new dimension to the rivalry. Brookwood and Parkview enter tonight’s game tied for fourth place in Region 8-AAAAA, trailing Grayson, South Gwinnett and Dacula, all of which have clinched playoff berths. So for the first time in the history of the series, the winner of the Brookwood-Parkview game will go to the playoffs while the other’s season comes to an end. Parkview hasn’t missed the playoffs since 1993. Brookwood has missed the postseason just once since 1995.

Which team will travel to McEachern for a first-round playoff game next week? It’s a tough call. Their records are similar (Brookwood is 4-5 overall, Parkview is 5-4, and both are 4-3 in the region). So are their results. Both teams lost to the region’s three playoff teams by 10 points or less, and both beat most of their other region opponents pretty handily. So, I’ll take the scientific approach. Brookwood has outscored its region opposition by 92 points; Parkview’s margin has been 90 points. Then let’s take Brookwood by two points at home tonight.

But that’s not the only big game in Class AAAAA tonight. Here’s a look around the rest of the state:

Region 6-AAAAA: Lassiter and Roswell, who play tonight for the region championship, can put up points. Lassiter averages 38 points per game and has scored at least 42 in six consecutive games. Roswell averages 36.3 this season and 40 in the past five games. But Lassiter has quarterback Hutson Mason, and I look for him to be the difference. It would be the first region championship in Lassiter’s history.

The AJC’s Michael Carvell asks: Who’s Georgia’s best QB?

Region 7-AAAAA: The North Gwinnett-Peachtree Ridge game will determine the region champion. Everything appears to be in Peachtree Ridge’s favor: The Lions are the defending region champions; North Gwinnett has been in this position three years in a row and failed each time; and North Gwinnett quarterback C.J. Uzomah is questionable. But I’m going with North Gwinnett to come through this time and join Lassiter in winning its first region title.

Region 1-AAAAA: Warner Robins’ upset of Northside-Warner Robins dropped the Eagles into a three-way tie for first place with Lowndes and Colquitt County. However, Northside will win the region championship by beating Colquitt County tonight. And Warner Robins will miss the playoffs after it loses to Lowndes and Valdosta beats Houston County on Saturday.

Elsewhere: In tonight’s other region championship games … Sandy Creek beats Banneker for back-to-back 5-AAAA titles. … Dalton beats Hiram in 7-AAAA. … St. Pius gets revenge for last year and beats Dunwoody for the 5-AAA crown. … Carrollton does likewise to Ridgeland in 6-AAA and avenges its 2008 loss. … Fitzgerald stops Thomasville to win 1-AA. … Calhoun beats Armuchee to win 7-AA (again). … Jefferson beats East Jackson to win the 8-AA title. … Miller County beats Clinch County to win 1-A.

Question for anyone who may know?? Chapel Hill plays Westlake and if they win they will be 4th seed. If they lose, they fall into a 3way with Creekside and Pebblebrook. PB beat CH who beat Crksd who beat PB. How do they determine who gets in? Coin-flip??

Hey plowboy…….. Who’s the star player thats out. We dont’t have any star players this year remember, we play as a team and we win as a team. VIKING DAD predicts Lowndes 35 Warner Robins 0 & Colquitt 14 Northside 10.

Viking Dad…I can’t blame you, but I think your predictions might be wishful thinking. While I expect a very, very tough game with Colquitt, I believe the Eagles will prevail in this one. As for Lowndes beating Warner Robins, I think your score may be a little off, but I can’t see Warner Robins beating Lowndes in Valdosta. I still think Lowndes has the best team in 1-AAAAA

HIRAM will beat DALTON…they have much more speed. GO HORNETS!
LASSITER will dismantle ROSWELL…the passing game will be the difference. If you think WALTON p
assed on them very easily…(this quarterback will have a feild day!)
PTR will edge NORTH GWINNETT…should be an excellent game!

Hornets2009

November 5th, 2009
5:40 pm

Dalton is huge, but no quiet as fast. Hiram has played size against speed all year, and so far . speed. The key could be Dalton’s secondary and Hiram’s line. Calhoun and Sequayah found the weakness.

Plus as Jefferson said, refs wear red stripes instead of black stripes. It would seem tha GSHA would send refs from out of the area for key games. Hiram remembers 2007 .. revenge time.

Maybe going out on a limb .. Hiram 35 Dalton 20

Roswell vs lasssitter should be a really good game. I know that roswell can play a physical type of defense; lets see if lassitter can play defense. We know that both teams can score though in different ways. Get your tickets early…..I hear that it might be a sellout. Good luck to the seniors on both sides of the ball.

If the Ridge is able to play Tomorrow at 100% of our ability, we will be North Gwinnett with points to spare.

Northside you have a great tradition and mack brown stadium has a history but listen to what i’m telling you if Colquitts quarter back is on, you could lose this ball game. They played lowndes as good as anyone has this year, The game was closer than the score indicates.I’m a lowndes fan to the bone
and feel like they would win again if they played especially if it was in the concrete palace. I think the reason you lost last week is because it was a cross town rival and they played the best game they’ve played all year. Believe me Lowndes will be ready friday. And again i say was colquits quarterback. We will see ya’ll again in the playoff and would probably fill the dome. I still believe the best teams in the state are Lowndes and Northside.

BlackandGold24

NHSEagle, VikingDad is correct about Colquitt being for real. The Lowndes game was the first region game for both teams and the Packers moved the ball against the Viking defense all night long and turned the ball over just about every time they got in the red zone, which was 4 times. What is scary is the offense has gotten better each week, but has yet to put together a performance that they are capable of.
Colquitt will win this game. If not then I will eat my words, but these guys are getting scary good. Colquitt 24 NSWR 7.

The pressure not seen by Peachtree Ridge since the Lowdnes game is going to hit the QB.
The back-up quarterback had a hard time with South Forsyth and the starting QB is not as good as
LSU signee at Prattville who North Gwinnett shut down. This game is going to closer than either side wants to admit and a Peachtree Ridge loss at 10-14

All the Hiram fans better be careful. Northwest outplayed Hiram back when Northwest was still trying to figure their team but turnovers cost us. The NHS defense only gave up 12 points to the hiram offense. If dalton plays like they did last week, the catamounts will win I think.

I hate to hear about the forfits by the teams and having such an impact on the other players who had “proper paperwork”, specially thai late in the season. I am surprised that this was discovered so late into the season ??? I am also surprised that this is not discovered more often around the various regions & state, especially in basketball. Since it is being reported tha the caoches were fired, that says to me that the coaches were likely aware of the violations but did not report them or at a minimum looked the other way. THe Roswell basketball and its coach are not very good (thank goodness for football); he often complains about what other schools in the region are doing (Centenial, Wheeler, Milton, Walton) to reflect attention from his poor basketball coaching and poor player evaluation. I hope that this issue reported yesterday serves as a wakeup call to some parents, coaches and kids to get your residency and other appriate paperwork in order for your respective teams with the basketball season approaching. It’s long been rumored that several teams around the state could have a whistle-blower (frustrated parent) possibly kill a varsity basketbal season. Good luck tonight to all the seniors who will play thier last high school football game. Go roswell hornets tonight.

Does anyone know how Lithonia and Stone Mountain got caught. Who prompted the investigation. I am curious because I know Dekalb county is full of cheating programs. What is sending the red flags on some programs and not others. (formerly Alfonso Crim High School) Notoriously used ineligible players. It was unreal!!!!

Northside posters seem to keep popping their mouth off. The northside posters making bold statements last week about the WR/NSWR game are not posting much this week. These new guys on here this week will not be posting next week also. 31-0? You are out of your mind. This will be a great game, either team is capable of winning this game. I am going with the Packers to win by 17. The Packers are a year away? You have to get help with whatever you are smoking. 31-0? That is funny.
