Carvell — Bad article about Chamblee — you made it seem like the team only made the playoffs because of the Stone Mountain and Lithonia forfeits. Of course, the truth is that even without the forfeits, Chamblee’s win this week would have given it the playoff spot.

Last score I heard was Valdosta 45 and Houston 0. Mannnn, I can not believe that MLK score. UG has more posters than EP did last year and made you think they would, you know, kinda destroy MLK. 2nd thought, I can believe the score. I’ve seen MLK in the playoffs before and I knew they had some athletes. Not as good as Stephenson, but good.

According to the Union Grove bloggers the last couple of weeks, they had the game in the bag against M.L. King. An average MLK teams is STILL 20 points better than a great Union Grove team. I can see Region 2-AAAAA going 2-2 in the playoffs. It is not an automatic that Union Grove will beat the No. 2 team from Region 3-AAAAA.

FootballFan. Well that is the second time you have trashed Coach Sphire. Hopefully you realize that Bob Sphire from Kentucky is different than the previous Coach Mark Spires from Alabama (I believe).
Regardless, Coach Sphire is exactly correct. In 50 years of football North never won a division championship despite having teams that could have done so. North had a monkey on their backs that Bob Sphire removed. His cool confidence is exactly what was needed to make sure the players played their game without losing their heads in tough game situations. I think any P Ridge fan will tell you that P Ridge was “out coached” this week. The fact that Bob Sphire has been there before, building teams, winning divisions, winning State Championships is one of the things that makes the North team so formidable this year.
I am sorry to hear some coach did not take as much notice of your son as you thought he deserved. Meddling moms and egotistical daddies trying to relive their youth is one of the toughest things about coaching. In my experience, every parent believes “the team” would be better if you would just give their kid a better position or more playing time. Unfortunately, coaches cannot just teach kids and win games. They also have to deal overreaching parents and it has driven many coaches to throw in the towel.
From what I can see, Bob Sphire is an excellent judge of talent. He moved several kids from prior positions to places where they could really shine. If it really was your team that turned him loose – thank you. Georgia football is better off with another outstanding coach.

Its official UG sucks on offence. Our play calling rivals that of a 10 year old rec league. We have good talent but Coach won’t play IT in the right place. #5 was offered a full ride to UGA but Coach Collins doesn’t THINK he is good enough to play QB. TJ Moon needs to be carrying the ball at lest 20 times per game. COACH COLLINS IT IS LONG PAST TO MAKE A CHANGE…..IT’S NOT WORKING. How much would it take to get Rick Tomberlien from Valdosta? Hey we will treat you right and won’t fire you after a loss. Yes Daddy Ball is alive and well in the Grove. We might get lucky and get through the next game but we are going to get a severe beat down after that.

Hey UnionGrove2010, you really need to stop counting your chickens before they’re hatched…”UG VS MLK is going to be a good game. UG Is going to win it though, at least we could score on Stephenson, right? =)”
You should never count out an opponent based on past performances in which you were not involved; yes you did score on Stephenson BUT your mistake was to conclude that since you were able to score in that game MLK would be your next victim. Take this advice, One Game At A Time; NEVER, NEVER UNDER ESTIMATE THE OTHER TEAM ON THE OPPOSITE END OF THE FIELD. Then and only then will you not end up looking foolish!

Ive witnessed,( NG vs PTR ) (ROSWELL vs WALTON and STEPHENSON vs MLK ), and I have to say….Are you kidding me! Is this some type of joke! Are you serious! These teams are horrendous! They are not in play-off mode what-so-ever! They cant substain a drive….dont know the consept….the selection of plays are terrible….and whats even worst…..the execution! Oh my God….Im totally embarressed! They are not even playing mid-season ball! No wonder deep south teams are on another page and are the steak and prime-rib of dominance! I now see how LOWDNES beat-down PTR. NG is no better! STEPHENSON has potential…but cant utilize it!
I thought these teams were serious top ten contenders? Im in awe right now. Some joke! I quess GRAYSON is the best team here in Atlanta. Boy I just cant believe……let me go throw-up!

Let me 1st congratulate Lassitter. Hutson Mason is he real deal; that was the 1st time I saw him in person. He had command in the pocket; threw a nice spiral; had time to check off different receivers even when pressured; and ran out of the pocket for 1st downs at significant points in the game. Very impressive performance by Lassitter. Unfortunately, it was a tough night for the roswell starting quarterback. First possession he threw an interception that let to a touchdown; he later hrew another interception that was returned for a touchdown; and after the backup led the team to the lassitter 1 yard line and had to go in for 1 play due to an injury, he came in and fumbled the snap and kicked the ball which lassitter recovered; the game was over then. It was a great night for high school football and there was obvious electricity in the air. Lassitter recievers were very disciplined and ran good routes. It was like a 7 on 7 drill all night for lassitter. I feel a little bad for roswell starting quarterback, as I had warned earlier in the week that this was Roswell’s major weakness. When he was frustrated at not playing well, he quit the team after being criticized by some of his players in the 4th quarter. Hard to imagine a senior leading a 9-0 team into a region championship game would quit when things start to go poorly; not mentally tough at all. The backup qu (#4) actually rallied the team and gave them a chance. It appears that the backup qb gives the team more options in the playbook. THe backup who is a junior, has better arm stregnth and can make the throws when neccessary to roswell’s 2 very good wide-outs. It would have required a perfect game on that night to beat lassitter because they played very well. Can’t throw 2 interceptions for touchdowns and fumble at the 1 yard line going in for a score and expext to beat Lassitter. Now we have a brutal 1st round draw against Charles Perkins and Collins Hill. Good luck Lassitter and congrats on your region championship !

these are CLONES of your kids playing in our schools……its got to be. This is not the tough Georgia that I know and come to beloved. Our football is better than that! This is not how we play. I refuse to believe that. This must be the twilight zone or something. This cant be right! Have seperating 5AAAAA from 4AAAA make our programs that much weaker? Are we hurting that bad?

Newnan had a tight game against East Coweta although the the score did not reveal it #1 Tay Willis was exciting to watch but Newnan scored 29 in the fourth quarter to squash EC’s hopes of a Rivalry upset (it is like brothers fighting one another) Valdosta is coming to Drake stadium Newnan should be OK as long as they do not bring the Ghosts of Valdosta past!!!!! EC could give Lowndes a better game than people think if they look ahead to Camden my prediction it will be close..

Hey Yo, you are right about the ghosts of referees past. I think every team has some questionable calls and downright wrong calls made against them each year. The call made at the Mac against colquitt was definitely wrong. I would like to apologize for some of my posts that may have had the wrong tone, we are talking about high school kids. Good luck to everyone in the playoffs, it is a whole new season!

WOW Union Grove what happened? 20-0? I knew that was going to happen, MLK worst teams almost seem to be better than yall best team. MLK is high quality team, WHY I mean WHY did you all overlook them? The one UG poster said at least they scored on Stephenson, then MLK beats UG by the same 20-0 score. Hilarious. Question: if Im not mistaken, didn’t UG coach used to coach at Stockbridge? If this is true, I feel sorry for UG. Stockbridge has been one of the worst programs around for a minute, what did the coach do for such a kush job? He never won at Stockbridge. UG has a great school; one of the highest ranked school academically in GA and the nation as well. I know the area well, good talent in that area they are only like 10-15 miles from MLK/ Dekalb Co. I feel sorry for you guys, because before the season UG fans predicted coaching( daddyballl) would be the teams downfall. But yall were crazy to think you were going to just beat MLK, I just don’t understand it. On top of that, yall coach went to Newnan, and he’s proably been there a couple years and won like 90% of his games. Oh well UG, I expect yall to roll over WF this week, salvage your season and good luck.

GO UG! We tried to put the ball into the phenoms (#20) hands last night and he fumbled and dropped a pass where he was wide open. Also he takes it upon his self to change the plays on the last drive while he is playing quaterback. We need to give the ball to #4 and open up the passing game to someone other then #5. Our coaching is a major problem but also the lack of a “team” amotosphere is also a major problem. We had kids bad mouthing the coaches on the bus on the way home in front of the players and coaches. What we need is to get the bad apples out of the grove and play like a team again.

The ghosts and bad referees have definitely moved from Cleveland Field to the Concrete Palace and the Mac. It seems to be almost impossible for visiting teams to win at those locations even when they are evenly matched. Colquitt, sorry about the bad call but unfortunately it happens a lot in HS football. I agree those refs need to be santioned since that was not a blown judgement call that was a failure to follow backup procedures.

UG parent: UG did beat us, no doubt. Yall destroyed us last year, we closed the gap this year. Ill give you that. But yall still got goose egged by MLK while the posters said you had it In the bag. Talkin about size making a diffence in the trenches, MLK players being small and whatnot. I wasn’t at the game, all I can go by is the score. 20-0 is 20-0. We didn’t score an OFF TD on MLK either, I was at that game though and MLK is a good team. They basically shut us down. Just like they did yall.

Concerning the behavior of Colquitt’s coach, last year he was ejected for unsportsman like conduct and he should have been ejected again on Frday night. There is no doubt that he is a knowledgable football coach who has/will turn Colquitt into a football power again. But the question is, based on his past on the field/off the field behavior, has Colquitt sold its soul just to have a good football program? Should’nt a HS coach be a good role model as well as a good coach?

I can tell you for a fact there are students and were students playing in other counties that do not or DID NOT live in the county. The coaches did not know. So, to say you find it hard to believe…..LET ME TELL YOU. It’s not that HARD.
My father coached Louisiana football for MANY YEARS and he had a RELATIONSHIP with his players on and off the field. Unfortuantely, that may not ALWAYS be the case here.
And most IMPORTANTLY, IGNORANCE has nothing to do with it. I can tell you this FIRST hand.

Also regarding roswell / Lassitter, roswell had some players out due to injuries. They would have lost anyway with the performance of the starting qb; but the senior starting safety was also out. He is an agressive hitter and solid coverage guy but was out with a hip injury. In his place was a wr who had not played defense all year, and it showed; can’t really blame him though. His replacement looked confused most night and appeared to be affraid to tackle when lassitter runners reached the roswell secondary defense. Hopefully, Roswell can make the adjustments and beat Collins Hill. Roswell shpould be at full stregnth next week; I’m sure that Collins Hill offense will be a lesser challenge for Roswell defense than Lassitter with all due respect to Charles Perkins running ability. Sometimes, you never know how 16-17 year old kids are going to respond on friday nights when the lights go on. Go Roswell!!!!

My good friend Inthatrenches, don’t buy into the 1-AAAAA hype. Lowndes and NSWR are the real deal but the rest of the region are very beatable. Go on ga.prep county and really take a look at the whole region and their non region schedule( a lot AA ,AAA and even some A competition). Valdosta will be a typical number 4 seed and Newnan will take care of them. My early prediction, Newnan 35 Valdosta 14.

UG Parent, I am just frustrated. We HAVE GREAT TALENT but we are not playing to potential. Hats off to the defense they did a fantastic job. Let me ask you, do you think #14 is the best kid on our team for QB? I am not saying anything about him personally just is he the best on our team for that spot? Our opening set of plays that we ran were terrible. Ok we have been running the same plays all year, at what point do we say hey this is not working let’s try something else? We need some serious work on our passing and pass blocking game. When I said give the ball to #20 I really meant him and #4. If we are going to run up the gut why not just try some lead blocking. Our special teams looked like they were just trotting down the field. When we punted MLK went all out rushing 6, 7, 8 guys trying to block it. When they punted we were rushing what 3, 4 guys?
Newton County, we miss Mike McDonald but one of the reasons he left is because with the addition of Woodland they would not let him keep his entire staff together. Although the refs made a BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD call on the pass interference play in the end zone which resulted in an MLK TD they called a pretty good game and we would not have won anyway. After we stopped MLK on their opening drive, they stopped us and the bad snap on the punt which gave them the ball at the 20 started things in the wrong direction. Good job MLK and good luck to you guys.

I have seen some film on Woodstock…they are the real deal. Very, Very, Good “D” LB’s very aggressive. They all go to where the ball is and will gang tackle you if needed. Only have given up around 90 points all year, 37 of those were to a OT lose to McEarchen. They have a great FB and the RB is ranked nationally for all purpose yards. They will both light you up for long runs. Coach OBryan knows how to coach and they will make a long run into the playoffs.

I think Valdosta has a chance to win Friday. Newnan is in weak region and might be suspect. So sound the upset alert!!! So is the head coach for Valdosta gone or is he trying to make them regret letting him go by making a run? Do not think they will beat Grayson but will be good if they play them.
This Friday might be a sweep by 1 AAAAA. Boy, can not wait to see blog light up if that happens. That would mean 4 AAAAA would be all knocked out. Only 3 AAAAA team that wins will be Camden.
South Gwinnett has a chance of making it to Semis but Stephenson’s offense is too good. South’s defense has holes.

Suwanee 0wnz: I hope you read this…I have never once said Bob was not a good coach or did not provide a wining way at North Gwinnett. Pull your head out of his crotch a read what I write and do not put words into my mouth to build your own pedestal to place him on. My problems with that coach is he will personally pick up a phone and call parents and ask where $50.00 is after they have already sent in close to $1000.00 to the booster club. But he will not take the time to call on one of his players that misses 2 weeks of school and 4 weeks of football due to a serious injury obtained on the football field. That program is about Sphire and his ego… not the players. I read where that coach from Atlanta that was fired this year had over 90% of his seniors out on scholarship…Check Bob’s record.. He helps those with the most money given….
