Ready to ramble: It’s region title week

Get ready to ramble edition as region title week is underway …

Only two teams can win AAAA. That’s Griffin and SWD. Just don’t so any other that’s worthy. …

In AAA, it’s almost as clear-cut: Gainesville or Carver, probably Carver. Peach has a shot. Nobody else. Carver jumped Peach and SPX to #2. Time to get real in the AAA rankings. …

Buford will win AA, but if not, it’s going to take a passing team to do it, like Calhoun. Tempted to say that Fitz and Thomasville are better than Calhoun, but Calhoun has the best shot head-to-head vs. Buford. No one-dimensional team will beat Buford. …

Lincoln County won’t win A, but news flash: This is a well-coached team. Only about a half-dozen starters returned, and the team’s best player is out for the season, and Lincoln finds ways to win. But the winner of Class A will have the letter ‘W’ in its name somewhere.

AAAAA is wide open. Lowndes is the best team, but won’t have the best draw. It’s one of those rare seasons when any team in the Top 10 could win it.

This is a better week of football than the first round, which will see very few upsets. Look at these games, all for the region title -

Lassiter vs. Roswell (6-AAAAA)
North Gwinnett vs. Peachtree Ridge (7-AAAAA)
Sandy Creek vs. Banneker (5-AAAA)

Todd:

You are right about “what do you know” about 7AAAA-A

Apparently, not much. Hiram would have lost to NorthWest Whitfield except for two gift fumbles in the red zone by the Bruins. If you look at the stats from that game you will see the Bruins won pretty much every battle except the final score. OF course, that was several weeks ago and things have improved for both Hiram and Dalton. This will be a much better game than you think and the outcome could be a lot different than you predict.

Before the beginning of the season, I thought 1-AAAAA may have Lowndes vs Warner Robbins both undefeated playing for region championship. NSWR has been a surprise (rebuilding year)and Colquitt has developed as a true region threat. If Lowndes wins region (I think they will) the biggest plus is the fans not having to travel. It does not matter which side of the bracket or the ranking if you are truly a state title contender and Lowndes will be difficult to beat anywhere. Obviously at home with 8000 fans they are even tougher. Look out for the other three teams. They will really surprise some higher ranked teams in the playoffs.

I haven’t seen Sandy Creek or Banneker, so I can’t analyze the matchups except to say I realize both have some high-end talent that colleges are looking at. Rajion Neal of SC is going to Mississippi State, I’m sure you know.

But I expect a tight game. Sandy Creek lost to East Coweta, whiile Banneker beat Westlake, a team that beat East Coweta.

Jerry: Not sure I follow you about Hiram-NWW. Didn’t I comment about 7-AAAA? I can’t remember that.

A little birdie told me that South Cobb is dropping down from AAAAA to AAAA region 5 next year. I know alot of players on the team and they have alot of talent with sketchy coaching but next year they will have a team full of seniors with an easier schedule so I wouldn’t be suprised to see them in the playoffs next year

wow that a way guys. since the Lovett game Buford has outscored opponents 216- 7. yeah illegal play, you dont know too much. just go watch us play. we play the right way just like we have the whole decade, with 5 state championships, adding a 6th this year. so fitz come on and try to run, when AJ Cunningham comes around the corner, lights out. dont throw it either because Jessel Curry has the pick. so we’ll see whats up when were holding up the trophy in the dome on December 15.

quit bitchin about how we play, we play the game how it is meant to be played, hard-nosed, badass football, how many other defenses in the state have given up 4.6 points per game this season, and we have outscored apponents a lot to a little, so quit hatin cause everyone better make sure they have made there piece with god cause buford is coming for the 3 peat and no one can stop us.

Jerry, fumbles are part of the game. NWW got lucky with a last minute hail mary to score their only TD. Hiram came back after halftime to score 19 unanswered points. The same thing they have done against Hillgrove and Sprayberry.

Glad to see the new website is up!!

SouthGArules: The decline of parkview from their heyday 0f 3 straight state championships to now likely not making the playoffs is obviously because they lost most of their talent to Meadowcreek and Berkmar. <—(sarcasm)

Region 6AAAA I wonder if the truth be told, just how many athletes Marist has that truly come out of Dekalb county!! I think when you truthfully exam that fact then you can claim to be the superior county in the state!!! Most schools do not have the luxury of having athletes from the entire North Georgia area.

RealTrojans56—Please stop crying about what CARVER is doing in COLUNBUS! They are not doing anything the GHSA will allow them to . Do you think the GHSA would allow them to have an unfair advantage over everybody else? I dont see anybody saying anything about the private schools that recruite their players! They are the ones with an advantage…not public schools! Talk about that if you would please.

Legit – I’ve got the tape of last years championship game, it took the center and guard 3 tries before they broke the defensive end’s leg with the chop blocks. Just watch it. That center should be banned from football.

No doubt Buford is a good team, Fitz too. Look at the championship brackets — if things go to rankings whoever is left standing earned it.

the only way buford will nevermind buford will get beat by fitzgerald their best is not gonna be goood enough, fitz is to strong and fast, our soph qb has already thrown over 1000 yds rb avg 350yds a game the team avgs 500+ yds a game, if fitz played in region 6 and never played 2nd or 3rd string we would out score twice what buford has done. give me a break

Big game out in Milton this week, Milton vs. Kell. Whoever wins takes the final playoff spot in 6-AAAAA. Be an interesting game, although whoever wins will probably get demolished in the first round against McEachern.

Hey BearFan1, you’ve had some good comments, but what is the point of the last one? You are correct, not all of Marist’s athletes come from Dekalb County, but “the entire north Georgia area” is a stretch to say the least. Most of the kids are from Dekalb or Fulton, with a smattering from Gwinnett.

You also need to realize Marist is playing in the 4A classification with a 2A enrollment, and they have won the director’s cup for their classification every year it has been awarded. Nine titles last year and runners up in three others.

I was at the Marist – Griffin scrimmage in August that was a 14-14 tie, and was in the rain at the SWD – Marist game. SWD is a much better football team than Griffin, which is not to say they can’t be beat.

Oh yeah, and for the comment about how Mt. Zion only lost to Marist last year by one measly point and could have easily won – I was at that game too and it wasn’t that close. Marist had a big lead and put the reserves in and Mt. Zion scored a couple of touchdowns late to close the gap. War Eagles were in control of the game the whole way.

None the less, good luck to Griffin in the playoffs, but if you’re playing Marist or SWD, you better bring everything you’ve got-

Yet again everyone sells Hiram short of how good they really are. FUMBLES ARE A PART OF FOOTBALL. Whoever takes advantages of “gifts” win the game. A team who gives the “gifts” is usually the one who losses the game. And luck is not what has been keeping Hiram going. Great half-time adjustments, playcalling and Great play by the Hornets. The fans do a great job as well I hope alot travel with us to Harmon Field to watch us play Dalton. GO HORNETS!!!!!

Cane fan ive got to disagree. im a fan of charlton county and i dont have them winning state this year i got buford. i remember fitz would beat charlton in the regular season and then charlton would win state. i believe this happened 3 times. fitzgerald was nowhere to be found in the playoffs. and basically the championship game was buford v.s. charlton every year. why would this year be any different.

Hey 31, you can’t win at Harmon field, you gotta play a good team and the refs will stick a knife in your back there. That IS the Carpets of Dalton Bowl. Sometimes they will stop the game just to count the money.

Tough competition and Fitz is looking very good this year.
Both Defensively and Offensively.

Packers came close to beating Northside, scored more on them than Lowndes did. One thing that really bothers me as far as how the outcome could have been is the terrible, unprofessional call by the refs when they “lost count of downs” and even though it was Packers ball and 4th and about a foot, the refs gave the ball to Northside because they lost count of the downs.
It is on tape and the refs have since said that they made a major mistake. Pack was in the red zone and might have scored, if so, add in what we scored after that you would have had the final score, Pack: 24 Northside 20 instead of Northside 20 Pack 17. So Northside should be VERY thankful for the stupidity of the refs in that game. So while they won the game, it was with some controversy.
The Pack won the second half hands down, Colquitt County’s big problem is starting slow and that cost them by letting Northside score twice in the 1st. But Northside never could score a touchdown again after that and the Pack out scored them the rest of the game but it was too little too late add in the refs error and you get a lose for the Pack a win for Northside. But that is how the cookie crumbles sometimes.
