Get ready to ramble edition as region title week is underway …
Only two teams can win AAAA. That’s Griffin and SWD. Just don’t so any other that’s worthy. …
In AAA, it’s almost as clear-cut: Gainesville or Carver, probably Carver. Peach has a shot. Nobody else. Carver jumped Peach and SPX to #2. Time to get real in the AAA rankings. …
Buford will win AA, but if not, it’s going to take a passing team to do it, like Calhoun. Tempted to say that Fitz and Thomasville are better than Calhoun, but Calhoun has the best shot head-to-head vs. Buford. No one-dimensional team will beat Buford. …
Lincoln County won’t win A, but news flash: This is a well-coached team. Only about a half-dozen starters returned, and the team’s best player is out for the season, and Lincoln finds ways to win. But the winner of Class A will have the letter ‘W’ in its name somewhere.
AAAAA is wide open. Lowndes is the best team, but won’t have the best draw. It’s one of those rare seasons when any team in the Top 10 could win it.
This is a better week of football than the first round, which will see very few upsets. Look at these games, all for the region title -
Lassiter vs. Roswell (6-AAAAA)
North Gwinnett vs. Peachtree Ridge (7-AAAAA)
Sandy Creek vs. Banneker (5-AAAA)

Fitzgerald is not a one deminsional team, they avg 150-175 yds passing, 300+ yds rushing, fitz scored 3 td’s in 55 seconds friday, special teams is awesome, Its not going to be easy for any brackett, because any team in playoffs in region 1 can beat anyone in AA. Good luck to all the teams, the game of the year in AA will be this friday thomasville at fitzgerald, fitz will win by 2 tds.

man please, Lowdnes have had a great run lately but it had to start somewhere. It still doesn’t compare to your cross town rival no matter what. Before the late 90’s, we didn’t even know yall exsisted and now you can call out Grayson. Just like you’re confident they wont win the state, I’m confident yall won’t win the state either. Too much hype! Yall couldn’t handle it last year and this year won’t be any different.

LOWNDES = 2007 STATE CHAMPS NOT 2009. LOWNDES better hope NSWR lose to COLQUITT COUNTY Friday, because I don’t see them TRAVELING to Camden County in the second round winning. If they get by , I don’t TRAVELING to McEACHERN beating them. Then if they get past them I don’t see them getting past NEWMAN OR GRAYSON in the semi-finals. So TITLETOWN you better start praying for COLQUITT COUNTY to beat NSWR this friday.

Who plays GOOD football in Henry Co? Dutchtown in alright, but how many teams from your region are ranked. The only quality opponent you all beat was North Clayton. SWD has the defending AAAA champion and the runner up on their belts. So you were saying?…….

I think any team thats jelling at the right time can go a long way in the playoffs.preditions and ranking don’t mean a thing come playoff time. The game is played on the field not on paper. The team thats the hottest at that time just may win it all.

Titletown, I have to dissagree. I think that Lowndes is going to have to fight to win in the 2nd round and Northside will in the 3rd. (or swapped depending on who wins the region) Its tough to win in Kingsland and Woodstock is not afraid of the road or any winning streaks in a stadium, ask EP that.

Todd: It is not about who is “worthy”. It is about which team has come together the best through a season of challenges to gel at the right time for a playoff run. Of course, need to be a strong team already too. Griffin is a fine team, but I do not think Griffin has been tested this year, the way it will be in the playoffs, and it is not clear to me how that team will respond under pressure. I think SWD is for real. I would not count Marist out of things. I also think that TCC is coming on strong.

Todd and CJ,
You can say whatever you want about Gainesvilles’ schedule, they are playing in the deepest region in AAA, period. That honor used to go to 2AAA, but we all know that only 2 teams are good in that region, LG and CC. 7AAA matches up against 6AAA in the first round this year, and 7AAA has a legitimate shot at going 4-0 that week if the Flowery Branch/Gainesville game plays out like I think it will. Someone tell me if there is another region with a #4 seed as strong as Flowery Branch, because that will be their seeding in 7AAA if they lose to Gainesville Friday night. If they beat Gainesville, tell me what #2 seed will want to play them as a #3 seed in the first round? I’ll give Carver, Columbus their props, they played an extremely tough schedule this season, But Gainesville didn’t play a bunch of cupcakes either. It’s a shame that these 2 teams probably won’t get to meet in the finals this year ( if Gainesville wins Friday, they wrap up the #1 seed out of 7AAA, and will most likely meet CC in the semi-finals). You can take CC if you want to, but I’m picking Gainesville to win it all. The only way that doesn’t happen is if Gainesville beats theirselves, and Millers’ teams are too well coached for me to believe that will happen.
As for Hiram, I think that they will beat Dalton this weekend, and win their first region title. That gives them a much better matchup in the first round. I think that Hiram will make it to at least the Quarterfinals, where they will most likely meet up with TCC, and that game could be a toss-up. The one thing working in Hirams’ favor is that they have already come from behind in the second half the last two games, so they know that they can do it.

Grayson plays in the same region as Berkmar (& I graduated from there), Meadowcreek & Central Gwinnett who have amassed 3 wins combined this year. Lowdnes plays in a region with Valdosta, Northside-Warner Robbins who are perennial powers on a yearly basis for the most part. It will be a south Georgia team that takes 5A classification & I am betting on Lowdnes! Grayson can’t beat 7-5A’s second place team.

Region 6AAAA you need to get you facts straight. Griffin only plays 2 Henry County teams and that is Dutchtown and Stockbridge. All the others are from Clayton County. If you check your facts our region represented very well last year. As a matter of our region sweep in the first round and Mount Zion Jonesboro who is from our region, gave Marist quite a scare with only a 34-33 loss. So before you judge our region too much, I suggest you know your facts. I am not saying that our region is stronger that 6AAAA, however we are not in a “weak” region like you keep indicating. The truth will prevail during the next 5 weeks so just sit back and let the teams play, then at the end of week 15 you can brag or maybe cry!!

Hey Yo! If you haven’t been in the states lately, Florida is #1 as they are the defending National Champions, moron! Their ranking means they are #1 because they have played for that ranking and continue to beat those put in front of them! Tebow will win National Championship #3 (in 4 yrs) and should add another Heisman although he won’t because former winners get to vote and won’t want a second 2 time winner. Did Archie Griffin ever win a National Championship during either of his 2 years winning? Probably not!

People r sleepin on mnt zion! U remember when they should have beat marist in the 3rd round las year but ended up losin by 1 measly point? Well that whole team is back this year! Look for them to go deep again this year! They have tons of talent! Alcovy and duthtown is talented as well!
Your top 5 teams SWD. Marist Tucker Chamlee and stone mountain!
Ok SWD is loaded and so is Griffin! Marist is good but not as good as NClayton! Tucker is down MntZion have like 15 starters back! Chamlee is not better than alcovy or dutchtown! Stone mountain prbly match up ductchtown pretty even!
Ill put our Top 4 against your top 4 anyday! U guys need to stop all that talkin when u dnt have nothin 2 back it up! Yes a Mike carvell in 2008 region 6 had the best region in 2009 Region 4 is on Top! Now what 6AAAA!

If all we can go off of right now, since the Championship has not been decided, is last year and the years prior then our Region has State Titles from 2008, 2003, and 1995. What titles do you all have to back it up? And this discussion is extended to all sports. Last year look at all the sports Region 6AAAA won State Titles in. Already started it up for this year with Marist winning Softball. Shoutout to the Marist School for adding another Title to their Trophy case and the Trophy Case of our Region.

NHS Trojan: I said that Gainesville’s schedule has been generally weak. Then you point out that no other region has a #4 seed as good as Flowery Branch. Well, Gainesville has not played Flowery Branch nor Creekview, the #3 seed. Therefore, Gainesville’s schedule has been generally weak.
“”so if chattooga record means nothing to the polls why have the polls? a 3 loss team in no way belongs ahead of us…..period”
You have polls to show people how good the teams really are, despite their W-L records.
The last time Chattooga was 8-1 was 2000. That year, Chattooga never was ranked and lost to a 6-4 team in the first round of the playoffs. W-L record is overrated.

Colquitt County has made a very impressive turn-around. This team has already surprised a lot of people. Heck they have a shot at being Region 1-AAAAA champs. Colquitt County is currently tied for 1st place in 1-AAAAA with Northside and Lowndes, and for sure should be in the top 10. Also it is important to note that Colquitt County played and beat Lassiter in their scrimmage game at the start of the season. I think that is worth noting. Ås far as these teams in other regions who are 9-0 that is all fine and well, except the question is, would they be 9-0 if they had to play in region 1-AAAAA, I doubt it.

Griffin Bear #1 – I ask the question once again……how many recent football state titles does your region have? you don’t have to keep it to football if it’ll help prove your point. Clayton county football has been very weak. If you have to count a almost win against Marist last year our point is proven. Your top team got smashed by our second place team. that’s why our region is better.
Reeze

2:20 pm
Reeze’s Early Prediction for the AAAAA champion ,first ill tell you why the heavy favorites won’t pull it out!…..Grayson , Great team with a time consuming offense and a good run stopping defense ,Graysons pass defense will be their down fall , 300 plus Parkview passing yards against the Rams in 48 minutes …Way too much for a State champion ,If Lassiter should lose to Roswell Grayson might get a big surprise from Hutson Mason in round 2 of the playoffs …..NG ,lack of competetion in region – 7 ,just as in the two previous seasons , when the bullddogs get punched in the nose early it’s pretty much over for them….Newnan , don’t believe the hype , and don’t understand the reason for the hype ,having only played 3 ranked AAAAA teams in the last 3 seasons and they go 1-2, you tell me …….Lowndes ,just like the Rams and Kurt Warners greatest show on turf offense a decade ago ,a good defense will eventually bottle up the greatest of offenses , the likes of Nix and Conn has figured out how to keep this offense out of the Endzone , others will take note. A good run stopping defense will shut the Vikes down……….Stephenson good team ,but didn’t look like a champion against MLK……….Northside……..My Eagles can’t expect to rely a the defense for wins in the Playoffs , the offense hasn’t the talent or experience to take the crown………..My pick then is the MaCeahern Indians to run the table with a 15-0 season , out of the blocks this season in the Korky classic the Indians looked in midseason form and haven’t slow down a bit ,the defense may give up points ,but they’ll outscore the competetion…..It’s very hard for any high school team to stop a balanced attack like the Indians…..a couple seasons back , my eagles had the same type of offense and it took 35 tries for a team to put the Eagles away………
