I don’t think Valdosta can beat Stephenson. Especially if Stephenson still has the caliber of players they had a couple of years ago when Lowndes played them in the dome. I think that was the toughest team Lowndes has played (except Camden) in it’s past several glory years. Also, Stephenson isn’t afraid to lie, cheat and steal to win. I was watching the DVD of the above mentioned game a few weeks ago and couldn’t help but laugh when I saw the Stephenson players hovering around the football after a Stephenson punt and tapping it down the field with their feet thinking the referees wouldn’t notice. Classic and classless!

So sick and tired of the “Lowndes is a bunch of thugs because they were mean to Grayson” bit. I was at that game and YES, Lowndes’ kids let their emotions get the best of them. I have also been at numerous different high school games over the years where the same thing happened to many, many different teams. The people on this bandwagon apparently were not at the game because it was definitely not as bad as it’s being made out to be. I was, however, at the Northside/Lowndes game. Let me just say that I will never take my children to another game in WR. As we were leaving, there was a crowd of NSWR spectators standing under the visitors’ stands shouting obscenities to the Lowndes fans as we were leaving. I had to walk out with my hands over my child’s ears. There was a police officer standing there smiling and doing nothing! I expect kids to behave like kids. But these were adults!

UG! The winner of the Stephenson vs Valdosta game will by no more then 10pts.. I believe it will be Valdosta… Stephenson RB will have a good game but that wont be enough… Valdosta has seen a lot better defense then Stephenson has to give… They develop a game plan to run, and pass all over that “D”.. The #4 team down there in region1 can easily go all the way.. just watch!

#23, I am telling you that Stephenson is VERY fast and super quick to the ball. You cannot run outside on them. I know that Valdosta has a good QB and really good receiver but again Stephenson is really quick to the ball. You better lay a lick and wrap up if you want their running backs to go down. I think their running back has committed to Kentucky. We have a good team and played them hard but they prevailed.

Warner Robins beats Northside at the MAC 21-20. Something EagleNationmRising assured us could not be done. He predicted a 28-7 Northside win. Considering how Colquitt beat Warner Robins 17-0 last week, maybe, just maybe, Colquitt can beat Northside also, when they play next Friday night. And IF Lowndes can somehow beat Warner Robins, Lowndes and Colquitt would have a 2 way tie for 1st place in 1-AAAAA. Lowndes would be region champs because they won the head to head matchup 31-6 earlier this year. I bet EagleNationRizing is squirming about all this, trying to figure a way to lecture us and make us think he had somehow warned us about it. NO WAY. He flat out said it wouldn’t happen. But, that’s high school football for you. HeadEast, sorry about your loss tonight. Congrats to Sportsfan31313 for Bradwell’s big win. Roswell and Lassiter did as I thought they would, except Lassiter’s win was closer than expected. I heard Brookwood took it on the chin, opening up the way for Parkview to get back into the playoff race. Central of Thomasville had a huge win tonight, a big congrats to them as well.

Lowndes “Peachtree Ridged” Coffee 63-7, but before ya’ll start getting all over us about running up the score, let me say how it happened. We scored on two punt returns for TD’s, a blocked punt for a TD, we had a running clock the 2nd half, and started subbing late in the 1st quarter. The ball just bounced our way tonight.

Decatur 4 Life: Isn’t Decatur HS part of the Decatur City School system instead of Dekalb County? If so, what are the boundaries/attendance zones. You are right about the high schools being so close together.
Does Decatur High have a provision where if you live outside the Decatur zone, you can pay a fee & go to Decatur. I know Buford does for Buford High School. I also take from your post that a middle school in Dekalb feeds into multiple HS’s. I’m curious, why is that? How many middle schools are there in Dekalb and is it possible to feed into 1 or 2 HS’s instead of 5 or 6?

I support the county and region 6AAAA but that region is not a juggernaut like it’s made out to be. I would think it’s tougher in basketball but even that’s lost a little luster after we (Columbia) got dropped down. Football wise though after Tucker, SWD, and Marist who else do you have worth talikng about. I know Stone Mountain is having a great season but do you honestly think they can beat a region champ on their own field, I hope they do but the chances are slim to none. I know they have had a representative in the dome the past few years but that’s a testament to the good programs not the region as a whole.

My point exactly about all 4 1AAAAA teams making it to the semis, it’s not possible. To comment on the schools, most of our AAAAA schools have between 2000-3000 students there, I’m a teacher at my alma mater here in Decatur. We’re a AAA school and we have at least 1500 students, there are three other high schools off the same street with mostly the same population of students.(The biggest being Southwest Dekalb) To take it a step further if you continue down the street you’ll be in two more different high school’s district, so that’s makes six schools in one general area. It gets to the point that middle schools in the area pull from everywhere. We could have a great athlete at our middle school and he might end up at SWD, Cedar Grove, McNair, Towers, or Avondale and not Columbia. Funny part is these schools aren’t new, they’ve been around for twenty or thirty years. Brookwood and Parkview are close but it’s just the two of them. No doubt new schools that have opened in Gwinett county since then have pulled some of their talent as well. Let’s be real, coaches recruit all the time it’s just a matter of getting caught. A couple of years ago, Marist was after a running back our middle school and he wasn’t the only one. Stephenson and MLK was hot on the trail too I hear, this happens all the time. The kid ends up going to where he feels the most success will be instead of where he’s supposed to go district wise.

Decatur 4 Life: I agree with you about redistricting pulling students, but Brookwood & Parkview have not been affected by redistricting (at least Parkview since Brookwood opened in 1981) Dacula has probably been affected more than any school in Gwinnett (Mill Creek, Mountain View). I will be curious to see how it affects North Gwinnett when Lanier HS opens next year. I know Dekalb County has over 20 HS’s with AAAA & AAAAA schools, but the AAAAA schools are barely 2000 students. There is NO WAY ALL 4 TEAMS in ANY REGION will make it to the Dome, considering only 2 in each classification make it to the Dome.
BTW: The #4 seed in Region 1-AAAAA (probably Valdosta) will lose in Newnan.

“Atl schools don’t kow football”, we’ll see. Hopefully 1-AAAAA can get 1 school in the dome this year, Lowndes maybe Northside. You’re gravely mistaken if you think all four teams will advance to the dome. Also it’s good to hear middle and south Georgians are dealing with rezoning and opening of new schools. Hard to maintain tradition and prominence for those perennial powers when new schools open up in your area and pull students, isn’t it? That’s what schools have been going through here in Atl for about ten years now, some schools are not going to be as good as they once were bottom line. We adjust and deal with it, now it’s your turn.

As far as the Hiram/Sprayberry game goes, it should be close. Hiram is playing better at this point in the season than I have ever seen them play before. They play with confidence and swagger. This year (unlike in years’ past), they go into every game expecting to win. The win over Hillgrove last week was a big one, and it let everyone know that they were for real. For Hiram, the playoffs started last week, knowing that they could not afford a loss to Hillgrove, and will continue this week against Sprayberry. I think Hiram wins by 7 or less. GO HORNETS!!!!

Wrong Grayram! Northside’s 9th grade won the city/county championship beating the WR 9th grade 28-26. Also, the feeder school to NS, i.e. the 8th grade team was undefeated again this year. Grayson is overrated and all the other Atl teams dont really know football.. Surprised that Roswell vs Walton is not considered a top game of the week ? Between this week and next the region championship will be decided between this game and the game next week between roswell and Lassitter. Most objective observers are not sure how good Walton is this year even though they have 2 losses. Roswell defense is its strength; but they have an explosive offense with wins by an average of 21 points. Only real weakness against very good teams in the playoffs will be starting quarterback position. The “run first” offense works against marginal to bad teams; but roswell must be able to get the ball to its playmakers on 3rd down and 5-10 yards against good teams. Every defensive coordinator in the region likely knows thats the only way to possible beat Roswell. Otherwise……………First & 10 Hornets!!!!

It also says Warner Robins has to beat Lowndes “OR” Northside to make the playoffs. If WR loses to either, and Valdosta wins out over Houston County and Tift, Valdosta is 4th seed, not WR, because Valdosta won their head to head matchup. WR must beat BOTH Lowndes AND Northside if Valdosta wins out.
